Takumi and Bunta were the only characters that I know wearing the NB shoes. And their shoes suit them well.

I have yet to find the orange ones that Bunta wears in the first stage.

Didn't Mako Sato wear New Balances as her "racing shoes" in First Stage? Yeah I sport some NBs, 1 pair, but I mainly buy Vans (shoes).

Takumi wears New Balance too...



actually i like New Balance shoes... somehow the sole design fits me better than Nike, Reebok and the likes...

this is the closest I've been able to find to Takumi's shoe in First Stage











other than the black laces, it's pretty spot on. and if you're really hardcore for the authentic takumi look, all you'd have to do is buy some spare white laces and put them on.

I like the Nike Air Prestige III, really nice shoes. Very similar to Initial D type of style

I wonder what the model of New Balance that Takumi wore in the series.

Silly noobs, none of the characters actually used New Balances. They simply changed it from Nike's in the manga to (at the time) a generic "N," which probably wasn't even meant to appear be New Balances at the time. Just like all the fake sponsors on Ryosuke an Keisuke's cars.

I'm almost certainly the resemblance to the New Balance 574 is a coincidence. They have only been in Japan since 1989. Nine years. This is probably why they changed back to Nike's in Stage Three, which had a much bigger budget.

That said, I bought a pair forever and ever ago because of Initial D....hehe

I think they might be inspired by them and there are quite a few New Balance shows with a simple N on them.

The fake sponsors on the cars are due to the animation studios not wanting to waste money to get the license to use them in their series.

If they weren't going to put Greddy, Trueno, Monster etc, and all those other brand names, I'm pretty sure they aren't going to use New Balance on purpose.

But the fact is that New Balance shoes are very popular in Japan.

I havent seen that many people wearing NBs in Japan. Most runners wear Asics since its a Japanese brand. That, or one of the big brands. Nike, Adidas, etc.

Dunlop sells more shoes than NB does here, hehe.

Well, now I'm shocked. I recall quite people wearing New Balance shoes around the streets of Japan during my trip last summer.

I also noticed most of the sports stores were selling them, I asked to some employee of some ABC Mart and they even had some limited models for Japan of that brand. I know it because my friend bought ones.

Maybe it has to do with some specific regions or something...

At the very least I have never specifically noticed anyone wearing them.

They do sell them, but they are $$$$ here. Like, 575's cost over $100.
