What is Initial D: Extreme Stage?

Initial D: Extreme Stage (ID:ES or IDES for short) is a game for the Playstation 3 developed and published by Sega and released on July 2008.

I've heard theres two versions, is this true?

Technically yes, it is. Sega released two identical versions, minus a few features, the Asian version included an English manual but no network mode, whereas the Japanese version has no English manual but has included all features, including network play.

What controllers are compatible with this game?

Can I use the D-pad rather than the 'joystick'?

No.

What are the options on the menu?

-Legend of the Streets (LotS): the main "feature of the game, race against characters from the manga/anime

-Time Attack: Race against the clock and see if you can be the fastest on the hill!

-Replay: Watch any replays ypu may have saved during LoTS or Time Attack (TA) or any you may have downloaded from Sega's server (JP version only)

-Network Play (JP verson only): Race against someone from the other side of the world or against your friends in ranked or player matches.

-Option: Change settings you want in the game, from the volume, steering sensitivity, drifting sensitivity and difficulty.

Does *Insert Steering wheel controller here* Support 900 degree rotation?

Yes and no. yes, you can rotate the wheel quite a lot but with the car steering a lot without having to roatate much you probably won't need to.

Does network play work outside of Japan?

Short Answer: YES

Do I need to have a JP PSN account to be able to play online mode?

No, US and EU accounts can play network mode, as long as you have the Japanese version of the game.

Will this game work on my PS3?

All games on the Playstation 3 are region free, only PS1/PS2 games and blu ray are region locked for the system.

Is the RX-8/Altezza/Roadster in the game?

While the list you see above are the cars in the game, Sega has confirmed that on the 24th of July, they will be releasing the RX-8, Altezza and the Mazda Roadster as downloadable add-on cars for free via the Japanese PSN store. You must have a Japanese PSN account to download the patch, but once it's installed you will be able to access the cars in-game via your US/EU accounts (if you don't use a JP account to play).

How do I download and use the DLC cars?

1.) Log into your Japanese PSN. If you don't have one, make one.
2.) Add the DLC to your cart.
3.) It will automatically be added to IDES. You can check this by going to PSN->Account Management->Cart->Services.
4.) Load IDES in whatever PSN you use to play IDES normally.
5.) When you first go into Network mode, you'll be asked if you want to apply the patch. Say yes, obviously. It will automatically be applied.
6.) The next time you add a car to your garage or create a new character, you will have the three new cars available.

Is it possible to edit your avatar after you made one?

Yes. it is possible, go to your garage, and choose one of the last options before the green exi button (once you've highlighted the right button, your avatar should show on screen, select that and presto!)

How do you Blind Attack?

Hold down the O button until your lights turn off. It takes about five seconds. Click O again to turn your headlights back on.

Hey i have a question the car paint shop does not have any new colors it just lets you change from the original options but in a video of the japanese arcade there was a green ae86 but that is not a color that you can paint the car is there any way to get more paint i really want a black s13 silvia

how to get more avatar options how do you delete cars in your garage? im scared

someone already posted this in another thread, but if you play LOTS again to double x each person, you get some new parts after each 2 person. at least thats what i have experienced.

Maybe can add to the faq that IDES is based on arcade stage version 1.5?

but it's not because it's missing cars available in 1.5 (mx5, altezza, rx8 ...)

i think he means in terms of the physics... because the physics are exactly the same
and for everyone outside of japan IDAS4 always had altezza rx8 and mx5... not just 1.5 , 1.0 1.1 and 1.2 also

SS being the highest and D3 being the lowest

like from B2 to B3 if you lose without anything on your "bar"?

yes it happend to me when i was d2 a jerk of ss played against me and i didn´t notice because he let me to choose first until it the race i saw the big aura and the ss ramk so i end up loosing and form d2 i was downgrade to d3 but if you win the next race you obtain again your rank,but if you loose again your bar lowers down

isn't it totally random when they pair you up with someone in rank mode? The rank SS probably didn't know you were a d3 or w/e. Besides, I played against a ss rank (when I was a rank d2) who had 170+ wins and 1 lose: not fun AT ALL. I think the matching/pairing of players in ranked mode needs to be fixed, that's quite a gap if you know what I mean

This is old. Add the DLC cars to the list and add the hidden music track.

maybe dumb, but how do you turn headlights on/off...i tried all buttons (manual says it's circle button)...none turned my lights of?

you have to hold down O till they go off and its just one press to turn them back on.

Added DLC car info and blind attack to the first post. Also added the how-to on getting the three new DLC cars.

even if u lose in any D level, you still gain your bar
