Did you know the final battle in Initial D First Stage between Takumi's AE86 and Ryousuke's FC3S actually happened earlier in the manga? The animation team took the liberty to rearrange the order of the battles to make it more exciting. They thought ending First Stage with that downhill battle and the build-up leading up to it will create so much more excitement. The rearrangement was seamless. If you didn't read the manga, you would think that's exactly how the author wanted it.

The suspense created throughout the first season, all for that last battle is unmatched anywhere in the entire series. First Stage is known for its dramatic build-up before each battle. Remember the battle with R32? They literally spent an entire episode talking about Takumi's inner thoughts and struggle with grasping the concept of a racer's pride.

Watching 86 vs FC battle again, one can't help but admire all the efforts put in to make it the masterpiece that it is. The pace is fast with lots of racing scenes. The dialogues are tastefully inserted between action scenes. First Stage is probably the most re-watchable in the whole series. I can honestly never get tired of re-watching it. I lost track of how many re-runs I did for First Stage. What about you? How many times have you re-watched First Stage?

I'd say Second Stage. It's relatively short (half that of First Stage), still has character development, has slightly better CG and has the best interior shots of the entire series. Not to mention my favorite BGM: Ever and Ever.

Of course, this assumes that Third Stage and Battle Stage can't be considered 'seasons'.

In terms of watching First Stage, though... I've probably seen it at least 3-5 times.

Even though in terms of the animation being dated I agree that First Stage is easily the most re-watchable of the series especially with the build up to the final race which doesn't seem present in the other stages which definitely works in First Stage's favour.

In all my years here I don't think I've ever seen anyone mention that song, let alone name it as their favorite. Critically underrated track, it's one of my favorites as well. The synth stabs in the backing track of the chorus were always a highlight.
