Its been confirmed by Sony at E3, that GT5 is indeed gona be online. According to the trailer, you will be able to drive with a dashboard view.

This is sort of "Bitter-sweet" news, cause if you want to race online in GT5, it'll definately cost you

$500-$600 PS3 + $60-$80 Game + Broadband access + w/e else you want to add (G25,DFP,Cockpit seat, TV, etc) = Way too much if you ask me

I almost got the PS3 covered + TV + DFP(G25 in the near future) I don't care about broadband access my parents will pay for it.

I already have G25, all I need is the damn PS3..

Well, at least with the price drop, the 60GB model is only $499, it's still expensive, but I think I'll buy it when GT5 comes out.

does the G25 even work with the PS3? i checked the logitech site, and forever reason they haved added the PS3 as one of the working platforms: only Windows & the PS2.

Let's keep it to what is minimumly needed ot play.

PS3 ,either version, Gran Turismo 5, memory card?, PS3 standard controller, internet setup, tv.

You don't need a high quality tv, you don't need a G25. How's that make things hard?

You don't need a memory card because of the hard drive. Gran Turismo HD is fun but being able to play it online will make it even better.

If you're going to pay that much for a fictional driving experience, you might as well get a real car and "drive" *wink/wink* it.

Well I covered my butt with the question mark anyway, I did not know for sure if the hardrive acted as a memory card.

I don't think anyone would care about the cost if they really intended to play it like most hardcore peoples do for that first person shooter that the developer bungie makes.

Besides, people spend more on useless crap like this, than stuff they need. IE, the ghetto mindset that is in many cities. It's not just a stereotype for people who may or may not be descendants of/or immigrants from Africa, or any land that looks similar to the majority of people from Africa.

The very fact that people bought the Xbox360 and its games and extra crap to play makes me think that people won't mind it for this system and game.

i've already got a DFP, i've already got a 50" HDTV, i've already got 5.1 surround, and i've even already built a cockpit (for use mostly with forza/pgr, but i can hook any wheel/pedals to it). all i need is a ps3. but... meh. its silly to spend that much money just for one game, and ps3 doesnt offer really anything else exclusive to make a purchase worth while for me. hopefully things will have changed by the time its out, because i really like the gran turismo series. i just cant see otherwise purchasing a ps3 since pretty much everything i want is available on 360.

Final Fantasy isn't on 360 but it is on PS3. Well, I don't really give a crap about FF.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind building a cockpit of my own. Must be truly awesome! After seeing a video of GT5, I want it even more!

Is the G25 really that worth it? I have no area to place the G25 so then I would have to buy a cockpit, and with a cockpit i probably wouldn't know where to store the cockpit... hmm

They said the same thing about online with GT4, and, we all know what happened there, lol.

Not really. Who here doesn't have a TV and broadband access? And for the sake of argument, lets generously round up the cost to $1000. What kind of car can you get for that?

I dont have Broadband , and my TV isn't that great, you all have 30'' + inch flatscreens if anything (i know am3pkcet does at least), Not everyone has money to burn

And for $1000, you can get a decent used car where i live, there was a used White MR2 for around $1800 grand this past winter

they also fail to realize the versatility of the internet and a tv compared to a car. what can you do with a car? drive it? what can you do with the internet? what can you do with a tv? pretty much any form of passive, active, and interactive digital entertainment. plus, the cost of a car *worth driving* is exponentially higher than that of a nice home entertainment setup. unless of course, you're just buying some cheap piece of shit thats not going to last more than a year anyway, or is horrendously slow.

People don't have money to burn on a $50 / month service, but they have the money to pay for gas, tires, and the repairs that they'll invariably need for high performance motorsports? am3pkcet said it nicely, it's not like you use the HD TV and broadband JUST for GT5.

Also, last time I checked, $1000 isn't equal to $1800. It's exactly $800 less. If you don't have money to burn, that's a big difference, right? Plus, what can you get for that $1800? A worn out first generation MR2? The costs for driving don't just end at the price tag of the car, you know. At $1800, you can bet that it needs all sorts of repairs needed to put it in good working order, let alone up to racing spec.

Although I am a gran turismo fan, I don't really care all that much since of the PS3 AWFUL price tag. And besides, the Wii is just way too much enticing

You could find a very used 3rd gen Camaro for that price if you can haggle a bit.

And what could playing this game make you? Can you drive to a virtual job and make virtual money? I guess if someone were to hold a tournment for it, you could make some money, but then you would have to drive to that event, iny our virtual sportscar.

Any car can be used for competitive racing, like at old VW Beetles. People use them for everything. Just need some know-how and some good legs to run from a junkyard dog.

Now you're just being ridiculous. No one said that having a car isn't important. I just have a problem with the "you might as well get a real car and race it" attitude, because it's clearly not that simple. The whole purpose of a simulator is to provide in some form the sensation of a real-life experience. How many people will ever get to see a Pagani Zonda, let alone drive it around the Nurburgring?

And for that matter, what can racing an old Volkswagen Beetle running on junkyard parts make you? How can THAT possibly earn you money? No matter how little money you spend on the car itself, unless you plan to exclusively race in parking lots and public streets, you'll need to pay track fees. You'll need money for tires and gas to make the car stay on track and running, and money to repair the car after it breaks down from the high stress.

Anyway, you're missing the point completely. The primary purpose of any video game is for entertainment. Now, assuming you're playing for your own amusement, what sounds like a better investment? A $500 console and a $60 game, or a $1800 beat-down car that will undoubtedly require more and more time and money later on down the road?

Now the only question remains, is GT5 going to have an offline mode or not?
If it doesn't and has a demand for broadband... Then I am packing up shop and moving over to Forza, cockpit views or not.

what kind of game doesnt have an offline mode? you would obviously race and unlock tracks/cars in offline mode and then race your tuned cars online...

When it comes to Sony and other large gaming companies... NEVER take something for granted.
That's why I am careful and reluctant.
