This will be Time attack battle with GT5; with various cars/track set-ups

Right now, we have two solid competitors, Myself and Case

Our PSN's are as follows, and I will add more PSN's accounts as more people are into it. And perhaps get together for a few 5 lap battles on many tracks.

  • backalleyracer
  • casef3s

We are currently running various cars, however the first challenge we wish to issue is this

Course - Grand Valley East

Entry Restriction(s):
1997 Honda Civic Type R - EK9
Sport Soft Tires

Specs:
Race Mod

Additional Comments:

The car is stock besides the race mod, and an oil change.

Fastest lap times
  • 1'11"611 - Myrnn - Awaiting new time
  • 1'11"800 - Case
  • 1'11.914 - Backalleyracer - Updated 11/17/12
  • 1'12"656 - VileFCboy
  • 1'12"817 - Phantom_R32
  • 1'14"147 - ThrasherDBS

These days, it seems easy to take a picture to prove your time - me and case live together and we watch each others replays and post our times on a board like this.

This sounds interesting. Maybe I'll start playing GT5 again for this

Posted by: lotteman Nov 17 2012, 08:02 PM
i wanna try too... lemme set up a car.

Posted by: case Nov 17 2012, 11:33 PM
Ah, good! I was hoping people still played GT5. smile.gif

Post up your PSN's btw if you guys want to do practices or just fun runs (keep in mind lap times for the Ultimate Lap Battles challenge can only be set in offline solo practice).

PSN is in my signature. I'll do the EK challenge some time next week

What are the track conditions?

Car should be 229HP correct? I had a fully tuned race mod EK and put everything to standard

Posted by: case Nov 20 2012, 06:35 PM
I didn't see your edit on this (since I didn't get the notification for a new post), but I will have to check on this when I get home, or if backalleyracer gets to it before I do. I don't know what track conditions can be changed in Practice mode, I just went straight to Grand Valley East. Neither of us use TCS/Stability, ABS is on 1.

Posted by: MzdaspD Nov 22 2012, 08:56 PM
Fuel Consumption, tire wear, driving aids, etc.

Posted by: case Nov 22 2012, 09:04 PM
Ah.. Tire wear was on, which I think is also linked to fuel consumption. Our times were set with full tanks though, we didn't bother using the pits to refresh the tires, just restarted the practice session. Driving aids are open for this first round at least, but please say which ones you're using. We never use TCS/STC personally, but the ABS keeps it from just becoming a chore to try to drive. smile.gif

no takers on this epic challenge?! Or is the game just too old these days... =D

I'm guessing this is dead now??

But either way I'm down to try this tonight when I get home. I'll update my time in this post sometime later.

I'm in a race league but in Forza 4, it's VERY active and competitive! Always racing for fastest times and positions. Teams of two, so 2 Ferrari, 2 Porshe, 2 Lambo players etc.

We race every Sunday @ 7 Mountain time. Currently on a week break due to the Superbowl. We have 3 races left this season and we're running ALMS cars currently.

We're always looking for new players to join. Here is our Facebook page and we keep track of points and and next season will be driving Australian V8's.

If you wish to join, just join the page or send me a PM on here and i'll invite you to the Group and just introduce yourself and tell them Jonathan brought you into the group and you met me on the ID forum.

All this grand valley action got me in a vid making mood ... look out for a vid on grand valley coming soon tongue.gif...

Posted by: Vile Jan 29 2013, 08:52 PM
Damn you guys... I could only get 1'12'656

My biggest problem with me are the corners before the tunnel. I either brake way too late for the corner right before the tunnel and diving in the inside first on that same corner has made me lose a lot of time. Then whenever I do get my line correct I seem to go too fast to the point where I understeer. facepalm.gif

Oh well, I will keep trying until I can get to at least 1'11 lol

@FC_Spec

Man I would so love to join your league but unfortunately I don't have an X360. Even if I were to invest in one, I don't think I would want to get rid of my Logitech G27. ermm2.gif

thats a vid of me doing it with the my NSX, the lines can still relate to the civic so hopefully you see some points where you can make changes in ur driving :>.

I could probably break 1'11 with the civic, need to play more though

Posted by: case Jan 29 2013, 09:46 PM
Did you just pop that NSX up on two tires just through weight transfer?! biggrin.gif

Nice time, but did you check the spec on your EK9 RM? If you're able to break into sub-1'11 then something definitely isn't right! It took Aaron and I a fair bit of time to break down to the sub-1'12 range and we're both pretty experienced. wink2.gif

Yep my civic is exactly to the dot of the rules, bought a new one to make sure its exactly as you guys wanted.

My normal civic is yellow like the one in intial D xD

It only took me about an hour to get that time with the civic, im sure if i sit down and play the track for a week ill be able to get into 1'10's ^^.

And yep that I have trouble with certain cars popping up on 2 wheels, im not that great at controlling that yet, i try exit too fast.

The FC was a nightmare, always going on 2 wheels, i had to change the ballast settings and add like 30kg so it would stop doing that.

edit: Maybe it was driver aids, do you guys leave SRF on for time attacks or off ohmy.gif?

Posted by: case Jan 30 2013, 12:31 AM
We don't use any aids aside from ABS, I'm not sure what SRF is. Even with any aids, I can't imagine breaking 1'11 with what we had, are you on sports soft or racing softs? It's possible that the answer could lie in the tune, we left stock settings for all our time attacks, but a full second is pretty crazy difference for this car. Even the mildest improvements we could have made in laps would have maybe amounted to the 11.6xx if we ran an amazingly perfect lap... or maybe I'm not as good as I thought! Once backalley fixes my wheel we'll have to have some head-to-head fun and see if I can't learn what I'm doing wrong, cause I've never even seen the two-wheel popup issue come into play with my driving. biggrin.gif

SRF is skid recovery force, some people say it slows you down but i find its faster for drift driving but not for grip, and for time attacks having it on as im a grip driver means faster times.

And yes im sure i didnt have racing softs tongue.gif.

Sport soft oil change and racing mod, along with abs at level 1 and srf on.

Edit: I broke into 10's last night, save and recorded the replay then did some more study on the SRF driving aid, apparently it makes unrealistic physics which helps you go faster so i turned it off.

Been playing without driving aids since last night (not even abs) and i absolutely love it, i cant believe how much more fun this game just got!!

Look out for some new videos coming soon >: D!!!

I have got to see that video

Eager to try as many challenges in this forum as available, I have taken this challenge. Bought a new EK9 right off the lot, and put the Race Mod on it. Bought Sports Softs for it, and headed right to Grand Valley East, with no driving aids except ABS set to "1", and grip reduction was set to "real".

ThrasherDBS / Honda Civic Type R (EK) RM '97 / 195HP / 845kg / 441PP / 1:14.147

(Used a link because the image is stupidly-huge)

I know it's not an overly competitive time, but I wanted to bring this challenge back up.

I can also supply replay data, though I seriously doubt it's likely that people will ask for that...

I know right, I find it quite unbelievable actually.

For you guys that are in the 1'11 range, are you using wheels?

I'm using a controller with the old school GT setup. (x for gas, L2 and R2 for shifting.) and I can barely make it into the 1'12 range.

1'12"817
http://oi46.tinypic.com/efs2t5.jpg

I'll mess around some more tomorrow and switch my controls around. Even though I've always used X for gas. I can see how it can limit my throttle ability and possibly hurt my time. All I can say is that car is a chore. It's understeer city if you don't get your braking and acceleration spots right. The only corner I had trouble with is the tight one before the tunnel. I always find myself coming in too hot from the previous turn and ending up taking an inside line.

Posted by: Myrnn Mar 7 2013, 01:12 AM
As I said my time was done with SRF on which was the cause of me getting such a low time.

Either way, not going to waste my time with these threads when people have the "your time is legit as long as its slower than mine" attitude.

Good luck.

Posted by: case Mar 7 2013, 01:37 AM
Yeah, 1'11's by backalley and I were done with my G25 setup, but he is also annoyingly fast with the controller!

@Myrnn it's not that, but the whole idea of the amount of time you were ahead by was quite a lot. coming from a couple of guys who understand what it takes to race professionally, the confusion makes sense. explaining that it was the SRF is fine by me, but don't be surprised when people are interested in how they got beat so badly! I know I was personally a little annoyed to see my time get beaten with relative ease. biggrin.gif

edit: I need to poke backalley to update the OP!

Posted by: backalleyracer Mar 7 2013, 05:50 AM
I am updating this now smile.gif

Myrnn, if you have a time with the SRF off, that would be great to see smile.gif

I didn't really mean for my post to sound that way. I know yours and everyone elses times are possible. I was just curious since I did pretty much everything I could with the controller. I might shave off a few hundredths later, but I doubt I'll hit the 1'11 range. I'm sure someone could probably do it with the controller. I'm just not at that level.

I really want to get a wheel soon though. Especially with the news of a possible GT6 release this year.

Posted by: Vile Mar 7 2013, 12:38 PM
I don't know about you Phantom, but getting a 1'12 with the old-school setup for racing games is incredible. I just tried that earlier with a regular DS3 controller but with gas on the R2 and I could only get a 1"13"233.

Shit, your time is really close to my G27 time. 1'12'656 crying2.gif

@Myrnn

Sorry I sounded like an ass in that last post man. ermm2.gif

Posted by: backalleyracer Mar 9 2013, 06:06 PM
ill be honest, as case mentioned, I feel I am faster with the controller smile.gif

I believe it is just how I was brought to play the game, I have been playing with controllers my whole life
