I'm thinking of how that guy used one hand steering and shifting and can get the same times with any lines he chooses, or how Shinji barely used his brakes etc. Are things open ended like that at all with room for players unique driving styles or is there pretty much a best way to do everything and one way only to achieve the best times. I ask because I find it hard to drift consistently and I'm just learning how, I've made he drift meter go gold so I know I'm going in the right direction but idk if I should feel it out or if there's a best way for everything already. Plus my car is the Integra Type R and it has an abysmal overall rating which is kind of disappointing. At FT how can I expect to measure up against others with FT? Does the track and car make a significant difference? How much is "skill" actually in play? How many specs are there? Does it vary by car? (Sorry to ask so many questions! I just started playing a few months ago alone and Google hasn't helped as much as I thought it could.) This post has been edited by EVA-01 on Jun 1 2015, 05:29 PM |

Full tune costs the same at 53,900 points for every car. #2 Better skilled player will mostly always win, playing with lower tier cars makes it more difficult but not unwinnable thanks to boost. Gold drift affects end game boost where you want to farm as many as possible before then (gold boost is ineffective/irrelevant in anything but BOOST ON versus battles). How much is "skill" actually in play?" yes, on different tracks there are different ways of tackling the corners. (e.g [if b = brake and t = gas tap] Akina DH -> b t t t Myogi DH -> b t b t Irohazaka DH -> b~~~~~~b t the above are just examples, may not necessarily be the most effective styles.) regarding cars and skills, because everyone has different styles, you may choose a car that fits your style the best. (I'm guessing it's because some cars requires more footwork than others etc) >>>>> "How many specs are there? Does it vary by car?" there are 5 specs, and no, it does't vary by car. it's the same throughout. hope this clears up things. This post has been edited by Nodame on Jun 1 2015, 08:53 PM |

Generally, no. For the best time when talking about time attack, pretty much there is only one way of doing it, although there are exceptions like Myogi whereby both the BC and the BA technique is pretty effective. Battle is different, use whatever suits you, as long as the basic techniques are there. As for the gold drift, nope. It is not the right direction. gold drift doesn't help at all, in battles it might give more boost to the player with gold drift but for the fastest time, you don't need to do gold drift, blue is good enough. Ah, yeah I did kind of think it was useful for getting more DP or something in legend of the streets, but I meant that I was getting a better understanding of the driving mechanics. What do you guys look for in a car personally? What would you say defines your "driving styles?" Is it just the feeling of the car? I also heard at mad spec you get to choose a new engine or something? What're the choices for that, and are there any noticeable differences? | ||

Sometimes, choosing a car that is easy to block is good too. I'd say it is hard to tell your personal style, because there is really just two ways of getting around the bends competitively. Your driving style depends on the map you are playing. The new engine option is for the AE86s. Nothing much, but it does changes the sound of your car. Turbo and Supercharger adds a whistle to revving up and letting go of the gas pedal. The 11k Racing engine is more high-pithed. It is not a huge peformance boost, but you are at a disadvantage in PvP if you don't have it. The Evo III also have a anti-lag option, it give your car more noisy backfires (that can even be heard by your opponent) I believe these special upgrades are the final upgrades in Spec-5, afterwards your car will become Full-spec (AKA Full-tune) This post has been edited by Falbere on Jun 2 2015, 03:30 PM |

Personally I wouldn't get too worried about the techniques. Compared to D6/D7, the amount of techniques that work in D8 for a decent time is quite a lot. It's just that once you reach near the world record stage where things fall into the "must use this category" and that's already on the "very high level" area. I had a lot of fun experimenting different footwork techniques for different corners. And there are techniques out there that I haven't even begun to understand how it works in theory, let alone trying to replicate them in practice. Also, I would recommend getting another car. Integra's cornering isn't very good I think and it's quite low in the tier. In Online, people mostly use Integra to win drifting contests or as a weak car to show off their skills by giving themselves a handicap. This post has been edited by SonicSP on Jun 2 2015, 08:05 PM |

I was really disappointed the Integra has such a poor rating. I may just keep using it until I need another, I was thinking of getting an EVO or s2000 for my next car. Having that loud backfiring sounds pretty cool (: is that engine choice for a specific model of the EVO? Are there any other cars that can have the turbo sound effect? |

Nagao Fanboy Group: Advanced Members Posts: 2,068 Member No.: 36,182 Joined: Aug 27th 2010 Location: The Internet, DUH | Just out of curiosity, we are talking about D8 right? I'm not sure it has been made clear yet, at least not in this thread anyways. In any case, here are the D8 car rankings from the stickeyed Rankings thread: http://idrankings.dyndns.org/version8/ You can use this check for the cars's general performance there. If you like one or some particular courses more than others, you may want to see which cars do well on them. The loud engine backfire "Misfiring System" thing is only available for the Evo III. It's really louder than the normal turbo sounds. All the Evos have turbos (which means they'll make that air "whoosh" sounds) I believe. So do all the RX-7s. The AE86s and AE85 will have them but only if you choose the turbo option on the final upgrade of Spec 5. I think the Imprezas have them too. Also, changing your exhaust will change the sound slightly. This is an "external" upgrade and is separated to the performance related tunings. I suggest just learning a few basic techniques and experiment the rest yourself. Once you know the basic techniques, you can just experiment with the Accel and Braking yourself. Experimenting is quite fun to be honest. Of course, you'll need a full tuned car first. Most of the more complicated techniques are unusable below that since the slowdown while turning is quite strong. They'll slowly start become usable as you approach it but only when you reach it when they'll be 100% usable. You know, I think someone or we should make a FAQ or tutorial that compiles all the drifting techniques of the game. That would be kinda cool. Not all of them will be usable everywhere and they are many more complicated variants later on, but it sounds like a nice archive-y thing to do. There are a lot more drifting techniques this time compared to the last two versions. This post has been edited by SonicSP on Jun 3 2015, 01:13 PM |

Only the EVO III can have the loud backfiring (Sudo Kyoichi's car). All turbo cars have a turbo whistle by default. No car other than the AE86s and the AE85 can add a turbo upgrade. IDW Member Group: Members Posts: 28 Member No.: 44,524 Joined: Jul 21st 2014 Location: San Jose | I have played with large groups of friends at a time and notice that not a single one of us drives the same. I drive entirely with one arm and use the heel-toe braking seen in Initial D regularly. Some friends left foot brake. One thing I feel is very important in arcade stage is to drive naturally. One friend has a very 'robotic' method of driving and treats every corner the same, and usually loses. The best thing to do in arcade stage is simply to find where you're most comfortable. Attach yourself to a car and learn all of it's ups and downs. Car tier won't matter when you find your style! You can beat any spec racer when you get into your driving zone! When I was entirely comfortable with my cars, I found victories coming in even with fully stock cars. |
