Initial D World - Discussion Board / Forums > Music and Radio Broadcast > DJ Tessou

I've toyed with the idea of a radio show for a while and decided that it's just not my cup of tea anymore. I think I'm out of music that hasn't been played a billion times over. I mean, you can only play so much Metallica and Disturbed before running out of fuel for the perfect show.

That said, I'm going to jump into the visual spectrum and do something I seriously enjoyed doing back when the TV stream was just sprouting. I'm talking about commentary. Live commentary of whatever I happen to pull off the shelf, with my reportedly Mayor Quimby vocals (for those that remember that bit from ancient history, I raise my glass to you). As I have a rather large collection of movies and shows, and my vast collection of smarmy quips and quotes, it should be a thrill for any and all interested.

My question for the other VJs, if there are any left: is there a schedule? I don't want to interfere with current shows, radio or video.

Please note that the first few airings will be tests and therefore pocked with errors until I have things smoothed out to acceptable levels. I have not tried the video stream on my latest rig yet so bear with me. It will get better with time.

First on the slate is Initial D Third Stage, subtitled so you're not missing any dialogue while I blather about.

This sounds like a great idea. I don't think there is a set schedule, just go by the DJ schedule, and that should be good enough.

I always thought you played 80's though. cool.gif

Posted by: Tessou Aug 26 2010, 11:02 PM
I ran out of decent 80's tracks as well. I could do a single Scott Pilgrim show since I have all three OSTs, but that would be the end of my radio shows.

As for the commentaries, anybody that remembers the off-the-cuff job I did with Extra Stage 2 should know what to expect. A lot of people seem to enjoy my shows when I cut the music and just talk about crap for 15 minutes, so this is an easier outlet for that since I don't have any interest in talk radio.

Posted by: HashiriyaR32 Aug 26 2010, 11:14 PM
Here's the schedule for now (for radio):

Thursday:
10PM EST - 2AM EST (DJ HashiriyaR32) Until September 2010
2AM EST - 4AM EST (DJ Pikachu Fragger)

Friday:
10PM EST - 2AM EST (DJ HashiriyaR32) Until September 2010
2AM EST - 4AM EST (DJ Phoenix Wright)

Expect Nomake Wan to alternate between Radio and Video, but it'll be radio for the next couple of weeks.

Wow, so there's nothing on the weekend? Guess I found my nook.

Three OSTs? I've got two... what's the third?

I can only hope this takes influence from Mystery Science Theater.

I will be doing some test runs on Wednesday at random times. This will be to test connection speeds and quality. Test footage will be from old Star Trek TNG episodes. cool.gif

Posted by: Tessou Sep 3 2010, 11:50 AM
Apologies to anybody that was looking forward to the test runs for some reason. I got hung up with class hours and recent IDW events, but I'm getting a mic today and calibrating everything tonight. There will be a test tonight, or my name isn't Tessou.

Your viewing material tonight will be the Star Trek TNG episode "The Naked Now". You won't be disappointed.

EDIT: Unfortunately I can't seem to locate the tutorial for setting up the video stream. I am all, how you say, forlorn. Once I get that running we'll be in business for streaming video. I've already calibrated the mic and it's glorious. It looks like the ridiculous wand used by Bob Barker on The Price is Right. biggrin.gif

For now, though, I'll play with what I do know how to operate.

Posted by: Tessou Aug 27 2011, 07:34 PM
There will be a show tonight, to start off a new set of saturday runs. Since Kyonpalm is airing at 2:30 AM EST, I'll be doing a 2-hour (ish) show at midnight EST. Wind that back three hours to compensate, west coast kids.

As always, the rules remain the same. Request songs, they get aired. Just try not to bust into Kyon's timeslot.

Also: DO NOT SEND ME DIRECT LINKS. As in, do not send me a request with a link to the song that automatically plays the song. This will disrupt the show by playing a track over the currently playing track, so please do it via sendspace or something.

Freaking awesome, welcome back and totally listening right now!! w00t2.gif

Tuning in. I was out tonight. Just got home. Listening to some great tunes now. awesome.gif

Pretty cool to see that the radio shows are still on going around these parts... I'll be sure to tune in to your next show Tessou.

Posted by: Tessou Sep 11 2011, 07:11 PM
Last night was a no-show due to some personal business, but next saturday I'll be back in high gear with some crazy shit. No hints.

Let's see if we can get more listeners than last time. wink2.gif

Posted by: Perry Sep 11 2011, 07:17 PM
You know I'll be tuning in and requesting some epic ARR N BEEZ. wink2.gif

Posted by: Tessou Feb 6 2013, 03:56 PM
I have hinted a bit at this in the past few weeks, but we are "all systems go" for a revamped show with more of the classic tunes that made the original show popular, provided that Perry's tutorial on the upgraded DJ system is still valid. tongue.gif No anime tracks, no eurobeat, no bullshit. I regularly listen to classic rock and new wave when I'm at home or work, so that's what will primarily be playing on my shows.

I promise I won't be using too many of the tracks I've already played many times in previous shows. I will also have a microphone to entertain listeners between and during tracks.

I plan to have a weekly show to begin on one of the upcoming weekend nights, being Friday through Sunday, after which it will continue running every week at the same time. This thread will be updated once I nail it down (gotta converse with the other DJs to figure out a good free timeslot).

First show will go back in time to the 1970's, so fire up your DMC-12 and get ready to hear some serious shit.

Back to the Radio? I love this poster! Boss, I love you. Can I also get the downloads to all the songs that you will be playing during the show? I can't wait for this! biggrin.gif

Okabe: W-What? Did a website called Initial D World just announce that their radio stream is taking its listeners back in time to 1970!? Quickly, I must listen to this broadcast!

user posted image
Kurisu: Okabe, does it look like we have the equipment to listen to an internet radio station at the Future Gadget Laboratory?

user posted image
Okabe: Indeed it does my naïve assistant CHRISTIIIIIIIIIINA! Have we not a network-equipped central processing unit with temporal audio extensions right there on our desk!?
Kurisu: It's Kurisu and I'm not your assistant! Anyway, that computer is ancient! There's no way it's going to play internet radio!
Okabe: Fuuuhahaha. How small-minded of you. Daru here can program it to do so with ease, right Super Hakah Hashida Itaru?

user posted image
Daru: Well yeah, I can write up a simple shoutcast interpreter for it, sure...also it's 'hacker' not 'hakah', durr.

Okabe: More doing, less complaining, Lab Member #003.

An hour later...

user posted image
Daru: Just tested it and we've got audio. Should be good to go.

user posted image
Okabe: Well what are you waiting for!? Hurry up and turn this thing on! I absolutely must catch this broadcast!

user posted image
Kurisu: I'd just like to say that I think it's insane that you're doing this without any preparation but that'd be like telling an anorexic they're thin. Tuning in...now!

user posted image
Okabe: I can hear it... the sweet sound of 70's classic American rock music... It's filling my mind...!

Okabe: LEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!!!

Thanks to the new system, all shows are archived, so you can listen to a copy of it at your leisure.

Okay, I wouldn't have noticed this had I not been investigating a mysterious server hiccup at exactly 1:01 AM PST, but it turns out that the ancient calendar.xml file that regulates how the new server handles DJ timeslots and recordings hasn't been updated since it was created. Meaning it's only set to record Fragger, myself, Kyonpalm and SgtXDNX (yes SgtXDNX, that's how outdated this file is). So it didn't record your show or HashiriyaR32's.

I'm not sure if you have access to the file to make changes, I don't. I know Perry does but he's overseas. If you have write access to the shoutcast directories shoot me a PM and I'll pass along the URL so you can at least enable archiving for yourself and Hashi. Still gotta figure out what's going on with the server but hopefully Perry can wave his magic wand when he gets back for that.

Sorry for not noticing sooner. sad.gif

I can look into it. Send me the URL.

PM sent. happy.gif Hopefully it works out.

Part II is coming this Friday, folks. My old rickety MR2 time machine is preparing to go back to the decadence and bad tastes of the 1980's. You'll get to hear from obscure bands of the time, some classic tracks you all know and love, and possibly even a few that you hate. But hey, that was the 80's, right?

I am doing a show today at the usual time. Since it's 90's-themed, I didn't make a poster for Part III since the show is not themed around the wild west. Or maybe it is, considering the 90's were a stark contrast to what the music world was used to after the craziness that was the 80's.

Also debuting tonight: name that tune. I'm using a special BGM during "DJ talk" sections on this show, and the first member that can tell me either the song name OR what it was famously used in will get a prize. Maybe you'll win money, or a toy, or maybe I'll sing a song about you on air. You never know what's next on IDW Radio.

My goodness! I always seem to miss these shows for some reason. Boo! Well since you're done with the Back to the Future series, what's next? Can I totally throw out an idea and say do the Terminator series next? biggrin.gif

I knew it, you're my long lost little sister. happy.gif

I LOVE the first two Terminator movies. When I was around four or five, I was the Terminator, hiding behind corners in the house and doorways with my little metal toy revolver, humming the theme song to myself. Lol Not even a proper pistol, but I pretended it was. Hahaha.

A Terminator radio show would be awesome and it would be in line with the whole time traveling theme <3 Tessou <3 had going.

From now on, I'll probably start a bit earlier for a longer show (1 hour is very congested and feels rushed every time), and just play whatever feels right. The longer time will also mean that requests can be taken. smile.gif

Next week, we start at 5PM PST (6 MST/7 CST/8 EST) and go for two hours. Be there, or don't.

Posted by: Tessou Mar 1 2013, 09:13 AM
Just a reminder that DJ Tessou airs tonight at 5PM PST tonight. FINALLY. TESSOU, HAS COME BACK, TO IDW.

Posted by: Nomake Wan Mar 1 2013, 09:21 AM
And even better, the show will actually get recorded correctly for once! cool.gif

Posted by: THE_HONDA_CG2 Mar 1 2013, 09:31 PM
Fracking argh man! I missed it again! I'll be here for next week's show so god help me I will make time to listen to one of these shows. I guess the bigger deal for me is missing out on the IRC activity. I can't begin to think about the inside jokes and fun I'm missing out on! sad.gif

The show was recorded last time, albeit in fragments since the server wanted to bend me over and jam it in deeper every twenty minutes. I think there are four recorded parts.

The next show, this Friday, will start at the old timeslot 6PM PST (that's 9PM for you EST folks), and will be effectively titled "the epic show", because I will only play epic music. What do I mean by that? You'll just have to wait and hear.
