This was well worth the wait for die hard fans. I'm kinda glad I got into Initial D two summers ago so I didn't have to suffer though the agonizing six year wait for it. But hey, we are here now and we are doing this. To everyone who is working their hardest to upload the raws and to the subgroups translating this; know that you have gratitude from the bottom of my heart. Keep it up guys!

Six years watching fake trailers and parodies, since I was in high school, now it's for real!

I'm pretty doubtful of that. If someone is already lined up to do subbing, all they're doing with this episode is translating the script so they just have to paste the translated lines when they get the HD version to sub. I'd bet that we won't see subs for this until the HD versions air on the 9th, and then we'll have to wait another day or so for those subbed versions to be uploaded.

Patience, people. We may love Initial D, but to everyone else, Fifth Stage isn't any more special than any other anime being aired this season, so it's not going to be uploaded any quicker.

The first episode is hilarious. I love it.

Now I'm back to that vicious cycle of waiting for new episodes every month.

As a warning to anyone who actually thinks this was broadcast in 720p, you're sorely mistaken - this file is an upscale. At the most, it can only be TV-quality, so while the file is in HD-size, it is NOT HD-quality. Blame the dumbass who uploaded it.

Can't wait for the HD episodes next week. The cars already look great, but they'll look even better.

Watched the first episode a while ago.

.I wouldn't call the (2D) animation crazy good, but it is decent and the artwork is definitely a lot better than before. The 3DCG looks good and there are some moments where it's quite different from Fourth Stage's look. Backgrounds - both 2D and 3DCG - have improved. Color, shading and character designs too. The animation for the cars isn't the most realistic right now, but it doesn't look fake either.
.In short: Fifth Stage looks awesome

.They changed the name of the gas station for some reason.
.As usual: In between medical studies and Project D stuff, Ryousuke somehow finds the time to put together another fancy GUI as well as painstakingly construct another accurately-shaped 3D model of a mountain road (elevation changes and all).

The 86 was supposed to stay damaged for a while after the race with God Hand, but they simply repaired it in the ending to Fourth Stage. To make this episode's plot work, it seems the writers simply ignored this part of Fourth Stage and based it entirely off what happened in the manga, so the 86 is still damaged and getting fixed. I was wondering if they were going to write around this so they'd be able to adapt this plot-arc and avoid any continuity errors with Fourth Stage. Seems they took the easy way out, but I'm certainly not complaining. Other spoilers: .The episode starts with Takumi driving the Impreza and thinking stuff possibly related to tires and stuff (I haven't read this part of the manga yet. Anyone mind giving me some info on this?). He and Bunta talk about something later, then Bunta has some sort of monologue, then Takumi heads to what the show now calls the ESSA gas station. .There, Takumi meets up with the usual suspects (Itsuki, Iketani and Kenji). They talk about stuff too; and I understood little about it except for the part where Kenji once again declares "RACERS DON'T NEED GIRLS!". That's the only part of this scene that made it past my language barrier. . . .Itsuki later takes Takumi along to Akina in his 85. He pulls off two surprisingly smooth drifts. "HEERU, ANDO TOH!" - Itsuki Takeuchi .A conversation and a flashback later, the two reach Akina's peak (where a surprising number of cars are parked this time). Fake Project D shows up. FakeTakumi was a sight to behold FakeKeisuke's no dead ringer for Keisuke either. .Wataru has fun confronting the fake Project D. Awesome Eurobeat starts playing as he describes just how the real Takumi Fujiwara takes a corner. Then the real Takumi Fujiwara takes a corner. The fake Project D decides to sneak away while everyone's looking at the 86. FakeTakumi says something "Hey, let's get outta here Keisuke". The real Keisuke steps in right then. Seeing him own the impostors was priceless. Then Fumihiro, Takumi and Itsuki get their turns. .Cut to Omiya's Roadster pulling some drifts while other people provide exposition. He's going to show up next episode alright. .And that's pretty much it for the episode. I wish I knew Japanese so I could have picked up on the dialogue as well as any technical details. This wasn't a very eventful episode overall, but it's good to see some Initial D again.

Yes and no. Yes, there's no problem posting possibly better versions, and no, because that's an obvious upscale. This episode was not broadcast in HD, so there can not be any version in 720p, it's just impossible. I've edited your post to warn anyone who sees it and thinks to download it, just so you know.

Ah, okay. The download was very slow when I tried it so I didn't go ahead and download it (simply because I do not understand japanese anyway)

Sad to hear it's not real HD, guess we have to wait a bit longer then. Not like those few days are going to kill us, seeing as we already waited 6 years.

It's a torrent link. The resolution is light years better than anything I've seen so far. I'm watching it right now. If it's not 720p then I don't know what it would be called. It looks incredible.

OH THANK GOODNESS I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE WHO NOTICED THAT! Also, when did Iketani sound so freaking annoying? I used to be fine with his voice and then suddenly BAM! He sounds like nails across a chalkboard to me.

Okay... but I just said it's impossible for it to be 720p.

Kazuki Yao is getting old, it's only normal for his voice to get raspier as he ages (He's 53 right now and voicing a 22 year old). Same with Shin-Ichiro Miki (he sounded really weird in the opening scene).

Could you word that better? I don't quite understand.
