A National Initial D Competition to rival the Japanese official tourney is now entering the group phase as of today in China. The initial phase will run until the end of the month and the finals will take place on the 16th of August.

The competition is split into 2 sections :

1) Individual entry
2) Team entry

Those who enter the team section are not allowed to participate in the individual competition (Dayam! XD)

As for the prizes on offer, for the individuals, 2nd runner-up nets RMB 1000 , 1st runner-up RMB 2000 and Champion gets RMB 3000

Team section : 2nd runner-up RMB 5000 , 1st runner-up RMB 8000 and Team Winner nets a staggering RMB 10000 !!!! Everything being cheap in China, 10000 is a heck of a lot of money... o_O

The tourney will be televised by the Guangzhou TV station and Prodigy'z Opus have been invited as guests on the day of the finals.

We will be making our way to Guangzhou on the day and to get an idea of the competition and the location, local team members in Guangzhou (TWQ et al) invited us during the weekend for a visit and a few free credits of ID.

Oh... Congratulations to HKS for taking the Iro reverse wet GC8V model record @ Guangzhou Teemall Arcade.

hmm I never saw any Initial D when I was in Guangzhou but then again I only went to one arcade lol. It was in a mall...

damn I should of stayed a little longer. The USA basketball team is training there in august and the initial d tourney is there. damn...

well how the hell can WE in the states watch this? is there any way it will be broadcasted via internet or maybe even clips will be torrented?

I'm thinking that they will post vids, but that's just my guess.

Going on the night of the 15th.. tourney on the 16th. I'll try and take some pics and videos but it seems that i'll be watching from way outside along with HKS.

YUET@ will be there along with CKF and Taro as well.

Are they gonna be in either the Team or Individual competition?

All of the Initial D greats in 1 place. Sounds like it's going to be a fun time.

The team will leave HK tonight and none of us will be playing for the tournament.
YUET@, Taro and CKF will be doing TA as guests.

afaik, YUET@ will be on Shomaru, Taro on Happo and CKF on Iro.

Sorry about the late updates. After the China trip i had to fly out to Taiwan for 5 days with the team.

Anyway the individual results ... lets forget that.
Why? cos originally it was team entry only and so all the "best" racers went for it. Then they added an individual competition and the rule was that if you entered for the team compo, you're refused entry.

I forgot who won the individual part anyway XD

Team battles... The finals took place over 2 days. On the first day the 16 teams were split into 4 groups of 4 and the winner of the group going into the last 4.

A team from Beijing, Fu Shin, Guangzhou and another team made it into the "final" finals.

On the following day (the same day I arrived in gz), we went to the arena and waited for the show. The stage was set on the 3rd floor of a huge shopping centre with huge plasma screens, 2 cabs and 2 MCs. They made it look like an entertainment show not unlike those you see on TV.

The final groups of 4 were paired up and it was a best out of 3 battle.
Nothing interesting really other than it was all boost on.

At the very end, it was Beijing vs Fu Shan and as luck would have it, the team leader of the Beijing team (Team Goddess) who specializes in Akina Snow managed to pull off 2 wins and won the competition.
PWNED by a GDB girl on snow..... XD

p.s. You don't often get the chance to overtake a girl who runs 3'20" on Akina Snow even with boost on.

When i went to china i didnt see an arcade and i walked for so long , i dont remember where i was in , it was like last year

When I was in Guangzhou all the arcades I saw were in a mall.
