Wow, "Tail of The Dragon" seems to remind me of the Nurburgring if it was cut and stretched to make a "tou-gay" (lol) at least it's the closest thing to the 'Ring here in the U.S. But definately a Challenging road, amazing, i'd love to ride it tongue.gif

Of all the roads in Utah they chose a strait level road, that place isn't scary, its boring. Why not mention one of the many mountain roads, that are 1 way with blind corners and shear drops, and no guard rails. or on I80 right outside Nevada, where your on a bridge in the middle of a canyon.

I want to go to the Tail of the Dragon so bad. 8thcivic has an annual Tail of the Dragon meet every September. One of my buddies from Orange County, CA(Santa Ana) drove out there last year and is planning to head out this year again. I want to GOOOOO.

I live a couple hours away from the Dragon. We go out there at least once per month.

The Ten. side really sucks 'cause the cops are complete dicks. And the bikers act like they own the place. But the NC side is really fun super late at night. wink2.gif

Check out roads leading to ski resorts that seems to be where most of the good mountain roads are, or you can do it the easy way and use Google earth to find potential roads.

Such as this (Lambs Canyon) my favorite place in the world... apart from the track.

Tail of the Dragon is nothing like the Norschleife. It's quite boring actually. I have a cousin that lives down there, and while visiting him, he says to me "d00d you dig racing, you gotta come check out this road!!!111". I complied and drove on it and couldn't wait for the thing to be over more than anything, just kept thinking, "is this damned thing ever going to end..."

The place is a loser mecca, where folks that cant figure out how to apply for track days go. I couldn't wait to get out of there and the damned road never ended...

Don't really understand what you mean by "loser mecca" but okay.

It's really a nice road, fun to cruise down and really beautiful.

Look up loser. Then look up Mecca.

People travel from miles around to drive like assholes down the road, all because they cant figure out how to get involved with the local NASA community.

How about Highway 49 in Northern California, or Latrobe Road? Narrow as hell, but fun and challenging.

I'd be wary of 49, though, because it is heavily patrolled due to douchebags...

Speaking of Cali, highway 1 is a simply gorgeous drive. I caught it down in Malibu and rode it all the way up toward central cali (bay area'ish). One of the best drives of my life, just me, some Opeth and a completely badass view of the ocean.

Damn, that Dalton Hwy just looks cool. It'd be one helluva trip too...414 miles without any sort of civilization. Holy crap.

Oh, and Hwy 50 too...just go balls out on it.

I'm going to agree with this whole tail of the dragon is crap idea. I lived in NC for a short time, and thought it would be fun to take my brothers b16 powered Integra there since I had just done the brembos. Not a good idea, bunch of people who think the drive is a race or something. I remember getting halfway through and just getting frustrated so I turned around. Not a fun drive since people who go there think it is a test of skill to drive like complete asshats on a busy public road. Plus the cops suck on either side so its really not that fun more like a hassle.

Still Life and My Arms Your Hearse. Damnation/Deliverance wasn't out yet and Blackwater Park due out for another year (this was right before I joined the Military). Face of Melinda, When and Moonlapse Vertigo were legendary for the drive.

Booooo still. Seeing a Cali sunset on those roads with Windowpane on would make me well up with manly tears.

This article actually has pictures of each road as well.
