No problem if there is a sensible solution, it would just seem a bit odd if the top speed decided the fate of the entire race.

The reason I put the top speed target low was to give everyone a chance of scoring, and of course, since the Carlton has a 177mph STOCK top speed, it would give me a major advantage out the box. So, the other challenges will be scored to counteract this. Since you know, I lost the overtaking challenge. wink2.gif

Mmmk.

Management are utterly baffled at Davis' "problem", and confused at only 2 confirmed results from last challenge. So, unless anyone else turns in results before Monday, it'll be a 1 man and 1 hamster race. rolleyes.gif

Anyway, without further waiting, heres challenge 5....

Your 4 door cars have proven to be formidible machines. Beating cars of classes much higher up. However, the locals want one last chance to defend their turf, and honour.

You have all been given £5,000 to buy 1 more upgrade for your cars. Just 1 upgrade worth £5,000. There are no advantages to saving money. Buy the most useful part you can.

Once your part is confirmed and installed, you are to return to Monaco (Cote d'Azur), and compete in a 2 lap family cup race, difficulty 10. Yes, your opponents will not hold back, nor take prisoners. Their cars are monsters, beasts of the road. One mistake may cost you the race.

However, if anyone wins the race here, they will get double points for this round. cool.gif

Now, go!

Hammond: Oh god, I may be in trouble this round, I dont know if I can beat anything worse than their previous cars pinch2.gif and my Carlton isnt sounding too healthy sad.gif

Holy Challenge Batman! Oh well, if I can pass Zondas in under 1'20.000, and Hamster can in 2'13 or so, I should have no problem competing in this challenge, I may not win, but I will do better than that 1990 4 door Vauxhall.

We are still trying to get a hold of a gearbox, so far the only ones we have gotten a clear shot will fit but they won't last any longer than 100 meters max under power as they are the cheap boxes from Mitsubishi's Eco boxes.

By the looks of things we aren't going to be able to run in the final run it seems actually as we have had no luck getting a proper gearbox for the Evo.
It may be over 400 horses but it is a NWD at the moment, No Wheel Drive.

Well, I had 3rd in the bag, and then, the inevitable happened...

...

I'll show you though the trackside cameras actually.

The Viper and R390 had such a huge lead, I knew my 508bhp wouldnt help. So, I did the unspeakable, I raised my boost pressure, hoping no one would notice. Thus starting of all my troubles.

The extra power caught me by suprise, and ended up sideways for the next corner.

But, I easily took 3rd back.

After recovering and nearly hitting the wall, I applied throttle, but there was no response. The engine had died.

Sitting for 5 minutes, the Carlton wouldnt start. I then realised. I just blew my engine. sad.gif

So yes, I tried to cheat, and paid a huge price for it. Now my Carlton is without an engine. crying2.gif

*sigh*

Cant win 'em all eh?

Oh, my mod was the sports suspension kit for £3,100, and my result is: 6th. DNF.

Hammond out. crying2.gif

I won the race by 2 seconds! Thus gaining me double points, I couldn't do it without the NOS Kit I purchased for £5000 and tweaked to 65% power usage.

This speed boost greatly helped me pass my competition.

Thats the margin I won by.

and I'm now mere spectator. I find it rather frustrating that these TG challenges have turned into these big, slowly rolling olympics instead of quick, 3-event blasts. and since the amount of useable money keeps growing, it sets the new cars back due their higher prices, rendering them useless. dry.gif I see only few routes out of this troubling development.. and believe me, they are not pretty.

Maybe you should set up the next one. We can all take turns smile.gif

But yeah, 60k was too much. 50k was okay imo.

Edit: I'll throw a PM to Outlaw about scoring the first 2 challenges, then I'll report back with the results on Monday whistling.gif so yeah, anyone who hasnt finished has until Monday to complete the challenge wink2.gif

First, I think it's time for me to apologize for that top speed rant I made earlier. ermm2.gif The performance of my own car just seems to be better than I could believe. laugh2.gif

Oh well, then to the results. 400m - 1000m - top speed.

user posted image user posted image user posted image

Having extracted the maximum straight line performance from the Stigmobile, I was heading back to Monte Carlo for the final showdown with the locals. On the way I visited the STi workshop and armed myself with a sports suspension to get around the tight street course in a more controlled way.

Back to business.

#1 - Underdog? Maybe, maybe not.
#2 - So much for the Italian supercars, two overtaken after three corners...
#3 - AMG's may be fast in a straight line, but two tons of steel doesn't like turning.
#4 - Watch out RUF, you're being tracked!
#5 - These guys really should know that high speeds necessitate good brakes.
#6 - Again running as a free man.

And finally the results.

If it was race gearbox vs race gearbox, it would of been a totally different story wink2.gif

Then again, its The Stig, not even 1000bhp and nitrous would of beaten him pinch2.gif hey, thats an idea shifty2.gif *runs to TVR*

Well we totally withdrew from this challenge after our gearbox was shot to hell, and we didn't have any luck finding a new one actually.
There were plans for a donor car at some time but we never found an appropriate Evo so we looked at other solutions and came up with nothing.
Next time we may be running a 34 instead if we team up with the Japanese tuner garage as then we would have little gearbox issues and we would be able to recruit a driver capable of handling the machine.

Anyway, John Davis is signing off, as for the Evo's fate? We don't know, Traction Monster industries has it now and it is currently sitting in their parking lot awaiting its fate.
