It seems for a while now, I have noticed that the Land Rover Range Stormer, when equipped with racing tyres, accelerates like its literally glued to the road. As in, it accelerates like the Model T Ford. Now with sports tyres, or rally tyres, its fine. Only racing tyres do this.

Now, I thought it was a 1 car problem, so I just didnt drive it anymore. But now, I find the Dodge Ram has the same problem.

So, is this a bad glitch? Or are racing tyres for heavy cars TOO grippy? pinch2.gif

So your saying the problem is your getting much, much more traction from racing tires equiped on heavy cars than normal cars?

That actually sounds normal if you think about it, heavier car equals more weight put on the tires as they push on the road, think of it like downforce, if you get what im saying.

Or is it something else ?

It's something else entirely. He's saying that the acceleration becomes very sluggish when you put high-grip tyres on heavy cars. I've heard about it once before on GTP. Probably not often talked about because few people are very keen on excellent cornering in heavy cars.

Well if its acceleration, then drivetrain issues come into play, I.E AWD vs. RWD

If you'd give a better description on what the issue is VT, i could test it out tomorrow when i get the time and give a solid answear then.

Basically, buy a Dodge Ram, tune it to the max, and buy it R5 tyres. Go to the dragstrip, and do a run with S tyres, then the R5s. You'll find the S tyre behaves normally, but the R tyre makes the car very sluggish. Just try for yourself and you'll see.

Basically:

Weight = Grip

Better tires = Grip

Weight + Tires = Even more grip

The only bad part is that weight also means understeering and sluggish response when cornering.

Even with weight reduction that happens huh? Damn.

But, if thats true, why does my Chevrolet Silverado (we're talking 1900kg or so I think) drive normally on R tyres? huh.gif

Ram is only 37,000, its the Range Stormer you have to win.

Well i took it to the drag strip to test for any difference in characteristics, and well...

I didn't feel much difference, i ran with S tires, seemed normal, then R tires, same thing, i will note however that on take-off with R tires, the launch felt a little sluggish, and if anything its the drag produced by the front tires having grippy tires (ask sweeper if you don't know what im talking about)

Thats my guess, most of it may be your imagination as well, i've done that before wink2.gif

Was the Ram you tried fully tuned Kurei? As in all parts installed. Here I got a good 2 seconds difference because on R tyres my Ram wont go past 80mph!

After checking it up it is FAR from imagination, if you fail to notice it well then you are really blind heh.
Anyway, to replicate it you need a fully tuned Dodge RAM skip the weight reduction but full power and R5 tires ARE needed to make it work.
Then set off to any track, keep your foot planted on the gas and watch the rev limiter, sometimes it will stop and even drop when driving on a FLAT straight at speeds less or around 60 MPH / 100 KPH and you will hear the tires chirp for NO apparent reason, even at higher speeds than that, they chirp, revs may drop approx 100-200 RPM then it will accelerate for a while before it happens again.
Compared to a run on S3 tires, you will lose on straightaway performance because of this.

Well i had full weight reduction and just threw on R3's and maxed power, didn't do suspension or anything, so that possibly threw it off, i'll try it again later without the reduction and R5's and stuff

One thing i can't figure out is why someone would want a Fully tuned Ram in the first place whistling.gif

I would've posted my finding's early but i forgot yesterday while i watched Family guy instead

And your right, R5's do slow the vehicle down, i also tried it with R3's, they didn't have as much as a impact as R5's (i hit like 110 i think), but they affect it as well, once your past 86mph it starts to pick up, but R5's fell like the tires were melted to the road

My re-vised guess, is that its a programing error, and not a glitch, because a glitch is a way you can make the game messed up, this tire issue however is already programed into the games physic's engine, all you have to do is invoke that portion of the code

I still don't see why you'd want a Ram when you can get a S2000 at a similar price laugh.gif

Which would win in a battle of "shove the other guy off the road"? A lightweight S2000, or a heavyweight Ram? tongue.gif

That depends. Is this in GT4 world where the S2K can run, or IRL, where its actually possible without the S2K getting away.
