Damn..... I update this topic WAY too much in the last 24 hours...
------------------------------
Hey guys.
Before everyone and anyone starts topics on it. I will start this official one. If mods thinks it's not worth it or any other matter, tell me.

So, what do I have to start this thread off? Many things and I have some source.

First off, the release date is set to end 2009, beginning of 2010. Secondly, yesterday, I learned on Clubic.com (Yep, my French source for computer related news) that the owner of the ThinkNext blog (click here to see the blog (Gives 404) - but the images were taken down because of Microsoft).

I have seen those images before they were took down. First of all, if I remember well, Paint (yes, Paint) and WordPad (yes, Wordpad) were re-designed. They both have now the Microsoft Office 2007 ribbon menu. Aka that kind of menu :

SPOILER

Wordpad will have the Welcome one (like the one shown above) and the "View" tab. Paint will have the Welcome one and that's it.

The Calculator has been rethought... I MEAN TOTALLY. It his now working like a Graphical calculator (Like Texas Instrument's TI-80, Ti-83, etc...). So, you can clearly see what operation you make. What the currect calculator, it is VERY difficult to correctly use the parenthesis. But, with Seven's calculator, you see everything so, it's easier to make harder calculations. Also, it has now a measure converter. Like Kilometers to miles, Gigabytes to gigabits or bytes, etc. It's the end of : "Of I need to go on the net to make that convertion".

So now, what can I show in screenshots? Well, lucky enough, Clubic.com has their copies of those that were removed.

Yop, the Start Menu. Not a lot of changes yet from what we know in Vista. There is one thing that jumps to the eye : the opacity of it. It's almost transparent beside the button and the main part of the menu. The next thing that I cannot confirm is that "Off" button. Is it still the same as Vista or is it really a shut down button? I don't know.

Hum... we can now create a budget within Windows Seven? Wow... (LOL)

Also, Windows Seven has now a biometry tools. Those tools that will, with the help of some device, detects fingerprints to identify you.

The main dish is to come.

QUOTE
Back in March, I heard Microsoft was going to replace some of the applications it traditionally has bundled with Windows subsystems with Windows Live services in Windows 7.

No one on the Windows team would confirm my tip. But on September 22, the Windows Live team admitted — not to me, but to News.com’s Ina Fried — that this is, indeed, the plan.

http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=1605
More in link. (Be sure to read the links in the article too)

So, we can confirm (somewhat) that Windows Seven will be customizable (at the install) and that we can install what WE want. We could only install the base. I'm pretty sure that some people will appreciate that fact.

So that was all for now.

Concerning PeterTWJ's thread, I highly doubt that the screenshots offered are exceptional, and, it was a build back at the beginning of the development. The information that I gave above is from an Internal (and recent) test build of Windows Seven. Althought it's in the same subject, I thought I would give an head up.

Official? Good. Most likely the thread that I posted will be merged or closed... Up to mods decisions...

Since it's official thread, I will post new information here.

It's more of a test mule Tess, they're just using the Vista UI for now... Another feature they are adding is automated updating of games installed in Windows 7.

OK guys, it has been announced... the official name of Windows 7.

It's..................... WINDOWS SEVEN! tongue.gif Yay for originality!

Anyway, I found, on a german website, 33 screenshot of the Milestone 3 of Win7. I have uploaded them in a public folder on my Photobucket account (instead of uploading a shitload of images).
Link : http://s28.photobucket.com/albums/c210/lebon14/Windows%207/ Not public anymore

Some comments, starting from the first picture at the top left.

1. Desktop from a fresh install.
2. Start menu. Note the transparency.
3. About Windows dialog. Proves that it is Win7.
4. The Getting Started Dialog. Note the items at the top haven't been filled yet because the system's features haven't been fully developped yet.
5. IE8
6. About IE8 dialog
7. Computer window. Remark the left panel organization and the toolbar at the top.
8. Recent files Window (Recent Places).
9. WMP v12. Better UI.
10. WMP v12 About Dialog
11. WMP v12. Music library and playlist organization window.
12. Send feedback Window.
13. Start menu All Programs sub-division.
14. User's documents now called "Libraries".
15. WMC Win7
16. WMC Win7 About Menu. Author censored some stuff.

18. MS Paint v2! About time! (picture 2) -MAXIMIZED-
19. MS Paint v2! About time! (picture 3) (view)
20. Wordpad v2! About time! (Insert object dialog is open)
21. Creating a recovery disc
22. Adjusting monitor Gamma
23. Adjusting monitor contrast
24. Windows Update
25. Windows Update - Seeing available updates
26. Windows Update - Preparing to Install updates
27. Windows Update - Downloading Updates
28. Windows Update - Revewing updates that has been installed. Author hid the name of his graphic card for no apparent reason.
29. Windows Update - Installing the updates
30. Removing Aero. I see a bug. Do you?
31. Devices and Printers window
32. Classic menus.
33. Changed the wallpaper? or is it Dreamscape?

Hope you enjoy. You may Visit the SevenForums and in the "news" section. There are a lot of threads about Win7 and its stuff.

Cool, when Windows 7 comes out I will probably upgrade to Vista SP2. Got to wait for them to work out the bugs in Win 7.

Yeah, but how much can the Vista code be improved upon? Vista is 90% different from XP, when it comes down to raw code, and is very stable and secure.

I have no problems with it, save for a couple small driver issues that have nothing to do with Microsoft, and everything to do with Megabyte and Realtek being lazy.

I never saw any real bugs in Vista itself, and everything I did notice was fixed in SP1.

Been running Windows 7 test since May timeframe. It's my main client in my VMWare network that I use to test my EMC SMARTS deployments. Relatively solid and hasn't crashed on me. There are certain things I cannot install on it, but nothing that should concern your average user.

Cool features for Windows 7, I am still using Windows XP for 3 computers at home, I will not get Windows Vista and just need to wait for 1-3 more years to get Windows 7.

Hopefully, Windows 7 will not be a disappointment...

But how are you going to run the Direct 10.1 if you're going to get graphic cards?

I kind of wonder up on that part, since I am going to get ATi's 4870 before Christmas.

Guys, you should read that 12-page article about Windows 7 (it's a review, but the page are quite short, except the first page) :
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/index.c...wid=106237&pn=1

Also, if you want more news ans small articles visit this forum :
www.sevenforums.com
I like to hang out there to see the latest W7 news.

For now, according to the article, only good stuff is to come up with W7.

There will be DirectX 11 for Windows Vista and Windows 7.

http://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/archive/2008...nouncement.aspx

*Maybe Graphic Card that support DirectX 11 will come out earlier than Windows 7?* (eg. GeForce 8 series comes out before Windows Vista)

I've been using 7 and I like. Soon go back to my original OS, but the testing continues. I've found two issues so far that are somewhat strange.

I've got quite a few partitions, - C to O - and while I can access all the partitions, only O is inaccessible to me. I thought it may be a partition issue and ran checks and whatnot, but it was fine. Later I ran the pretty new "Graphical Console (Windows PowerShell V2)" as ADMINISTRATOR then FILE/OPEN and was able to browse the partition. I tried taking ownership of the partition and such, but to no avail.

Next, I noticed that I can't log in as ADMINISTRATOR - tried pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL many times while at the login screen - and I decided to try and create an ADMINISTRATOR account with said name. On that attempt, the add user screen locked up, then EXPLORER crashed and needed to be restarted.

Outside of those two issues, I've found little to not like versus VISTA. All the drivers that I had that VISTA didn't want to setup were installed seamlessly. No need to force-install anything. Some of the older apps don't work, but they do install. Played CS: Source right off the bat - which is a plus in my book (VISTA SP0 didn't - instant uninstall).

More to come as things progress. Requests for screenies will be taken.

As per usual, I probably wont be upgrading to that until my current OS and PC go kaput on me.

Up until I got my laptop, I was still using Windows 2000 on my home pc.

To be frank, I don't think there's lots of differences in the accessibility.
For the results, I typed "Sébastien" in the search field (my first name) at the root of my external hard drive. The drive was not indexed but I sawt that it searched also for the Author of some word documents it found.

But, has I said, the search boxes are at the same place as in Vista.

OK. So, I am going back on Vista.
My experience was very good. A very good start from Microsoft.
They made improvement on everything litterally :
- Ergonomy
- RAM consumption
- Responsiveness of system
- Booting and shut down times
- etc.

That was a very nice first impression. I'm really looking forward to it.
Saving a couple of things on my external HDD and I go back to Vista until 7's final release.
