Downhill at Irohazaka circa 2002. A mean piece of road made famous by Initial-D and jumping MR-2s. It leads down a one-way mountain pass to Lake Chuzenji and back up again in a loop as there are separate roads for uphill and downhill traffic. It is the only way in and out of the National park.

The road ascends more than 400 meters in altitude and is named ‘Iroha’, because the original road consisted of 48 needlepoint curves, the same number as there are letters in the Japanese syllabary, formerly known as ‘Iroha’.

Needless to say, this guy has got ‘mad skillz’.

Very nice vid here. I remember hearing about this road also during (of all things) another series of Cromartie High School.

To actually see now that it is true and to be taken on as well as he did, wow. :3

He wasn't racing anyone Spaz. He was just being super epic on a downhill. laugh2.gif

It looked like he was going really fast. If it takes about 5 minutes to get down at that speed I wonder how long it would take someone going the speed limit.

Since it's posted outside of automotive, technically this is okay to post. Technically.

While he was probably going a decent bit over Japan's incredibly conservative speed limits, it certainly took him longer than five minutes to complete the course. The beginning and end of his run were either cut out or, going by the numeral in the filename, are in different videos.

While his sliding around just about every corner (including facing the outer wall at one point) is incredibly impressive, it's by no means the fastest way. I'd bet he was below the speed limit most of the time (albeit probably breaking some other law regarding reckless driving). He was doing this to show off, not to be fast.

Still, if it's a private citizen doing an amateur video, it's technically street racing.

I was joking, I don't really care. It's a one-way street, it's not like he was endangering other motorists in the process.

It's quite impressive driving to say the least, inclined hairpins like that are incredibly difficult to slide due to the gravity-induced increase in lateral acceleration of the rear end.

This. Coming from you gives me an idea of where you stand when it comes to performance driving.

I expected better.
