Hiya!
I've been thinking alot lately, about swapping the Vivio's current inline 4 cyl 658cc motor, with a motorcycle engine (not anytime soon, but one day, like after i bring it back to Canada with me). I was wondering if anyone knows a thing or two about motorcycle engine swaps into cars. Found this link: http://thekneeslider.com/motorcycle-powered-cars/ Also reading this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bike-engined_car I also remember hearing of a Honda Beat in California or Florida, that was swapped with a 150hp motorcycle engine. Anyone hear about that? Just worried about hooking up the engine to the car's transmission and also the lack of torque.... (still, torque should be more on any sport bike engine than it is on the vivio's current engine). This post has been edited by WRX DEMON Type R on Oct 31 2009, 06:19 AM |

Sounds like fun! The only motorcycle engine swap into a car I know of is the Smart Car with the hayabusa in it.

Well, I was looking up this one Mini Cooper that I remember was set-up rear-engined with two Hayabusa engines, and I came across this page...

Yeah, cuz basically im considering tuning my Vivio, but only the suspension and handling parts, maybe get some body work done.
I'm planning on doing any actual engine tuning, after i bring it home to Canada. But in Canada it would be difficult to source Vivio engine parts. So i'd rather just stuff a motorcycle engine in there, start with more power than the Vivio's engine offers stock, and go from there. I'm happy to see some of these vids. I wonder if there are any AWD applications. |

From article:
The Smartuki has now been built. It’s a GSX-R1000 powered Smart Car with 180hp, 0-60 in 4.2 sec. and 12.4 quarter miles. I like it. The Smart weighs a bit more than the Vivio. If you could go with a liter Gixxer or a 'Busa motor (like in the vid firstshadow posted), the "lack of torque" won't be a problem. A liter bike engine would be badass in a Toyota iQ as well. I hope somebody does it eventually. This post has been edited by Fast on Oct 31 2009, 08:09 AM |

Also, im sure the AWD would help increase torque at the wheels, wouldn't it?

Everybody likes the Smart car with the Hayabusa motor in it. Simply awesome. But I kinda not enjoy high revving engines.

aw man, high revving engines are the shit (and this is coming from someone who also drives an impreza). They sound so great going up to 10-11k.
I want a motorcycle engine in my car that can rev higher than my car's current 10k. |

That Smart is from Portugal, I already saw it. Its from a stunt bike rider from here.
Thats what you can do with a bike-engine car. It is very efficient and get good results in races. |

I read somewhere, that was a good "low-cost" very fast car if done properly. Most of engine-bike cars here starts around 650 ou 700 kg, then strip the interior, electrics, fiberglass most of the panels, etc... I think that a great car for doing this is the ol' Mini cooper. There are lots of parts for it. I am sure that a Kei car can do it fine anyway. Here is more videos:

Very awesome.
I also hope there's a way they can breed whatever engine to Vivi-chan's transmission. I'm reading alot of these motorbike engine cars don't have a reverse gear LOL. |

Z Cars in the UK do a lot of bike engined conversions iirc. They mainly do classic Minis, I've seen a couple at shows but think they've also done a Lotus Elise, a Citroen Saxo and a twin-engined Ultima, yummyy!

^ That's pretty cool.
Also, I remember that Honda Beat - they managed to hook up the motorbike engine to the transmission. Also, this is an automobile transmission, is it not? |

So then one motor to go fwd and another for reverse since there's enough room lol. |

To be honest, I have no idea how a Harley engine swap works. I know 95% of sportsbike powered cars do not have reverse though. Hell, my cousins Legends racecars don't even have a reverse gear(Yamaha 1250 powered). |

I think it's a manual. I might have to look up some service manual diagrams to make sure since it's been a long time since I had a Mazda 121 (Ford used 121 design & put a Festiva badge on it). I think I do see a clutch cable in the photo. Probably not the original gearbox from the 1.3L Festiva though. More likely to be the gearbox from a 1.6 or 1.8L fwd Mazda 323. & Vivi-chan?? Haha, you've named it. |
