I'm sure Mazda would have won the 24h of LeMans again too had the 787b not been banned for being awesome.

How'd it get banned? And if they have the 787B, that picture would have been long gone.

They didn't ban the 787B for any reason other than the fact that it was rotary.

SPOILER

That won four times in a row.

They didn't ban it because it was a rotary. They banned it because the Group C regulations were canned at the end of 1991, and the new 3,5l formula took it's place from '92-'93.

Cause when rules are sable for long periods of time, the racing gets boring. Porsche dominated the Group C era.

It won the 24hrs of Le Mans from 1966-1969. The Audi R10 won the 24hrs of Le Mans from 2006-2008. I don't know how that doesn't get through your head. If you're meaning P1 class, the Audi R8 won from 2000-2005(2003 was Bentley, but that was just a rebodied R8), plus, aside from the past 4 years, EVERY SINGLE OVERALL/CLASS VICTORY at Le Mans has been won by a gasoline powered vehicle. GG Diesel, you're inferior.

QUOTE
t seems they are completely oblivious to all other games and are just kind of doing their own thing

Its funny that you mention that, because in a recent interview, he sort of basically said that's how he's been looking at planning the rest of the game, just thought I'd mention that, and I like the fact he's doing it his way at his pace

QUOTE
i'm not sure what you mean by improved structure.  if you mean career progression...

I mean in the gameplay, menu's and such, look up videos of Forza 1 replays, and compare them to 2, and then 2 to 3, similar sized cars and same camera's, to me, it all just looks too similar to me. Then do the same for GT, you should see a good difference between 3 and 4, and then ditto for 4 to 5, not 5p, because prolouge was just a big demo. Yes turn10 churned out a good game quickly, but it really isn't that different from FM2 except for a few bells and whistles, what I'd like them to work on is bring in some weather effects or something new like that, make interior camera control similar to TDU, maybe even with the level of detail that game had, and bring in some good bodykits, even if its just a few, or at least change what kits are included per-game, the whole steering issue is more a pet-peeve really, I'd just like them to show the drivers hands actually look like they do some movement, not just a inch or so

QUOTE
whats funny is you seem to put this guy on some high pedistal as if other development teams don't do things like make accurate tracks.  hint: many do.  plus, most other games don't let you bounce off walls and cars at full speed with no damage or penalty... just sayin...

I'm not putting him on anything like that, I'm just saying that he puts a lot of effort into all the details, his Twin Ring Motegi looks just like it does in race videos and such, proportions and all in check, But I did a race there in FM3 earlier today, and the tunnel that goes under the oval track's straight looked lower than it should be, and some portions were missing the feeling of elevation like the real track has

I'm just throwing this in randomly, we know that PD sent photographers all over the world for tracks and cars, and turn10 did so for cars (there's pics on google when then did the Top Secret S15), did they ever do it for tracks too or no ?, I'm not trying to make a point, I'm just curious

QUOTE
what is there to explain a 5 year development period?  what magic golden nugget of gaming is he delivering that no one else can?

Other than working on 3 games at once (Prolouge, PSP, and 5) and not deciding which to do first ( dry.gif ), there aren't any that most gamers out there would care for, but for some gearheads, the details that KY reviews are time-consuming, like how the light bends and reflects of the paint, how crisp shadows are depending on the distance from the object causing them, and others, I know I sound like some art nut worrying about how things like that will come out, but for me those details are what can make or break a players immersion into that world of cars and how they enjoy it.

It's kinda hard to express it with just text, I know you guys like to play games like GRID, DiRT, and Forza, and to be honest the more I play FM3, the more it sorta grows on me (in fact, before this, I rolled and flipped my 240Z at Nurb after cutting a curve to sharp, it was awful and awesome at the same time blink.gif ), but at the same time I like when a game puts effort into making the immersion and experience of driving enjoyable without going towards or bringing in drama (sorta like what 'shift' did) and whenever GT5 is out, I hope to see it continue that tradition.

^ That's another little pet peeve, Engine swaps are still manufacturer-specific, you can't (although I hate the idea) swap a LS engine into a RX7, or put a Rotary into a Datsun 510 or unique swaps along those lines..

I know, I'm never happy, lol rolleyes.gif

Kurei, look, I understand Yamauchi's obsession with details, and I agree that GT has some of the best tire-to-tarmac physics, along with well modeled tracks. The problems I have with GT though are things that seemingly every other game has. (Differences in modeling could also depend on focal length used for camera. Wider lenses vs tighter lenses will give slightly different perspectives.)

In GT, you can't customize colors and decals or vinyls. It's nit-picky, but when everyone else seems to have it, it seems odd not to. As far as I can remember, you can't even repaint your car after purchasing it. And there's no body kits at all whatsoever.

You can't flip, roll, or crash your car. There's no sense of fear since you can bump and grind all around the track with no consequence. Compare this to say, DiRT and its terrifying. At any given moment, you could be cutting a corner through a bush only to hit a rock hiding behind that sends your totaled car flying through the air. It keeps you on your toes and makes you realize that you are not invincible in the car. GT feels like a game of bumper cars. Yamauchi even said himself that he doesnt like or want damage in his games because it destroys the beauty of the cars. Even if they have damage in GT5 (are they? I'm not really following GT news), I doubt it will have catastrophic rolling crashes as it would require a complete retooling of the physics engine.

While GT3 and 4 were among the absolute best looking games of its time (barring the odd interlacing issue that plagued 4), GT5p has horrid anti-aliasing and mediocre visuals compared to other games made in half the time. Hopefully GT5 full will look better.

Also, have you seen the interior view while driving in GT5p? They don't turn the wheel as much as real life either. In fact, I can't think of a single game that does (as most would mean crossing arms over). Even at full lock at a stop, the wheel is never turned more than 90º. So... yeah. The legitemate fault of the in-car view in Forza, which you oddly left out, is that there's no shifting animation for the hands. And the steering wheels also seem smaller and slightly off-placed. Comparing my real car to that of the in-game Scion tC, FM's wheel's right side covers the tach from about 2-3k and on, whereas even in the lowest position in my car, its clearly visable. Again, probably the fault of different lens focal lengths or a slightly smaller steering wheel.

Oh, and as a ninja insert, you can't swap engines AT ALL in GT. So to complain that a game that DOES let you doesnt give you as much freedom as you like is beyond petty.

Anyway, I've made my points and am done talking about GT.

The main reason they said there was no damage in the past of GT was apparently they didn't want to include it if they couldn't make it as realistic as possible.

There will be damage in GT5, they've released video clips of the in-development damage system. It looks pretty promising.

To be honest, no racing game, sim or not, as really came close to the damage in GRID or DiRT. In my opinion at least. 'Cause damn, that shit is goooooood.

Turn on the multiscreen function and adjust the "degrees between screens" parameter (try 62 degrees to start). If you're using a single screen setup, you'll need to have an ethernet cable hooked up to the box in order for it to work properly. Otherwise, the game will freeze when you try to load a track.

Well my rental goes back tomorrow, and as a game overall, I did like it, but I'm not sure if I'd buy it.

I would still like to see some things changed or improved further, but looking back that was more just my personal preferences, but I know I'm not the only one looking for those features (and I don't just mean from this site), so I feel the game is still leaving out a good chunk of stuff for certain gearheads and motorsport fans, it could do much better in my opinion.

But I'm tired of talking, let the comparisons continue once GT5 is out rolleyes.gif

Do it in a stockcar with the rear gear at either 3.73 or 4.10. So much fun.
