This time, our challenge will be revolving around Japanese hyperminis that seem to be the future of the transportation in urban areas. I have a sneaky suspicion that this challenge was designed with Hamster in mind, since these little cardboard-boxes have smaller engines than Smarts do, that are commonly turbocharged, and if you manage to get in, there will be barely enough room for breathing.. and a teeth whitener kit. I also think that May, that camp looking spaniel with his poofy hair, will have some trouble as well.. so, let's begin! *rips the envelope open* "Your first task is to buy used or new Japanese hypermini, that fits within Kei-class specifications. FF, FR, AWD, MR, RR, N/A or forced induction is allowed. After Purchasing the vehicle, you have to give a positive review about it, before taking it to tuner shop and pulling out the maximum performance. You get points from every ten bhp over the stock power. Remember, reviews must include 2 pictures and specifications of the car as it is." Hmmmmmmmmm... This is worse than I though. My toothbrush has more power than these! But I think there's one that can't go wrong.. I'll go for Honda Beat! let's see what others will have before moving onwards with this. IDW Regular Member Group: Members Posts: 221 Member No.: 27,024 Joined: Oct 14th 2007 Location: London England | Steve Coogan: Seeing as there was no budget, I went crazy. i found a 1995 Suzuki Cappuccino EA21R for only £7000 at the local dealership! Bargain! And it only had 33,000 miles on the clock and was Antares Red, as most sports cars should be. Standard this car was a promising performer, with 64bhp, 75.94ft lb. of torque, and being one of the lighter kei cars at 690kg. It is also mid engined and rear drive, so it handles like a pure race car. I took the car over for an oil change then went to Suzuki tuning to get the car upgraded. I bought a Stage 3 turbocharger, Racing exhaust and air filter, for free-er breathing. A Race spec intercooler, Fully Customisable suspension, racing brakes, fully customisable transmission, all 3 stages of weight reduction, a racing ECU upgrade, Nitrous and various other mods, which totalled up to a staggering £80,000+ Ouch. After Modifying my "beast" of a sportscar Its horsepower was now 126bhp and it now had 110ft lb. of torque. It was also alot lighter at 627kg and could really take the corners well. So, lets see what the others have got then, This is the perfect challenge, as Hammond will now feel like me and Jezza do in a normal car. Normal Sized. I so hope the budget is lower than £80,000, just to see Coogan squirm |

I guess the management still hasn't recovered from the party they had after receiving the news. But, I got bit more info about the first challenge: we're supposed to buy snow tyres for our cars, since we're heading to the Chamonix rally track. |

Kinda ruins the point a bit, guess I could make it interesting though >.>;; ------------ So, for £2,344, I bagged this rather cute little car. Made in 1985 as a sort of, city car, the Honda Today is a very small car for er, small people I guess. Although I dont have any headroom problems . With 31bhp, and 32 ft-lb, its not the fastest car in the world. But it is economical. The example I picked up had 50,100 miles on the clock, and looked in general good condition. Oil change was performed recently, as well as having the body restored after 22 years of er, plodding about at 20mph. Painted in flame red, it looks very nice. And complements its boxy, yet smart shape. I went to the boys at Spoon, who when I asked about parts, laughed at me, and said "we dont do parts for that... thing". Sods. However, I came across a Honda NSX, dressed up with a wing and alloys. The owner looked at me, recognising me off TV, and said hi, and wondered why I had a Honda Today. I explained the challenge to the chap, and he was more than disgusted at the Spoon guys at laughing at the Today. Turns out the guy owns a tuning company of his own, R-Style Inc., who were responsible for the NSX I saw before me. I asked if they did parts for my car, and the chap replied, "no, but I'd love to tune it anyway". So, he got to work, whilst I got to drive their NSX, and if they could improve the NSX this much, I am only worried on how good they'll make my Honda Today. I got the car back, and wondered if it was even my car. R-Style Inc. had totally rebuilt the car, lightening everything they found, and boosted the power. Sports tyres were also fitted. The car went from 550kg to a mere 500kg. Power was hiked to 71bhp, with the help of a racing exhaust, a total engine overhaul, and a bottle of giggle gas, rated at 100bhp! New brakes, suspension, transmission, infact nothing went unchanged on the car. Even the wheels were replaced with the same type as their NSX. Infact, they turned my Today into the "mini-me" of the NSX. Which is cute. The Today was given R-Style Inc.'s "easy-drive" set up. Which turns out is also fun to drive! So, thanks to the guys at R-Style Inc., my Today is a little cracker. I wonder how it'll do... This post has been edited by VTiRoj on Nov 4 2007, 02:06 PM |

IDW Full Member Group: Members Posts: 49 Member No.: 17,173 Joined: Apr 11th 2006 Location: Update Profile | [Tiff]Well, after my limited incarceration on charges of Arson, I'm ready for the next challenge. After searching the used car dealerships all over Tokyo, I found a Kei Cars specialist. On the forecourt, stood a Diahatsu, and two suzukis, but it was one of the Suzukis that caught my eye, a Wagon R double R. Its white, it sits low on four spoke alloys, that barely encompass the brakes. With the Kei Car standard of 63 BHP, and a whopping 70.45 Ft.lb of torque, the (A)RRR was a veritable pocket monster! Added to this, it only weighed 820 kg, and has an AWD drivetrain. needless top say, I snapped it up pronto!. The Drive. With the car bog standard, I headed for route 246 in Tokyo, to stretch my pocket monster's legs. The first two corners were third gear affairs, and it took me from where I joined the road halfway down the 'straight' to the first corner to get past 60 MPH. Once up to speed, the drill was Pedal to the metal all the way, except for one or two corners, but with traction control on I was losing 20MPH in the corners as Man fought machine. Speaking of which, lets 'uncage the beast', *Disappears under Dashboard* Two up even at the first corner! (A)RRR!!! The sheer speed of this pocket monster dragged the camera out of the Cameraman's hands... Well, after a 0-60 of about 19.78, the first corner was a tyre squealing afair, and as before 5th gear was just excess weight, the car never needing to leave fourth, ecept to downshift, even along the considerable main straight. When I tried a little handbrake skid, the (A)RRR got skittish, almost understeering into a wall, but I was successful on my second attempt, getting a little slide on the first of the tight right handers. all in all, a great little car, incredibly slow, but with good handling and decent looks. Close call with the wall DoriDori! Look much faster from bumper cam. Stay tuned for the next part of the story, where the (A)RRR meets a tuning company... [/Tiff] |

IDW Expert Member Group: Members Posts: 100 Member No.: 20,276 Joined: Sep 17th 2006 Location: Cape Town, South Africa | Here is my car: Mazda Autozam AZ-1. Super tiny car, 659cc engine. The car was the first time I saw it, and I found it a fair bit more attractive than the other Kei car class cars that were available, and one of the few that had MR that had decent power, only other car that drove the rear wheels with decent power was the cappucino, and I felt like driving something original. The car standard felt sluggish at times, but one I tuned it was very quick, revving easily to the 10 000rpm mark. Here is my car on a snow mountain road: And I couldnt help breaking out the rear end - the car does it itself in fact, it slides heavily in the corners - really slippery in the corners, I'll have to install better suspension... Most of the power came from the stage 3 turbo I installed Previous power: 43KW - New power: 83KW Previous torque: 85Nm - New torque: 124Nm And I must buy new rims as well - those old ones are damn ugly! IDW Banned Member Group: Banned Posts: 2,975 Member No.: 14,568 Joined: Nov 24th 2005 Location: Varkaus, Finland | And now, I shall reveal My choice of weapon for this challenge series. and it is THIS: (pic to be added later) Yes, that's right, it's Honda Beat version Z '93. It's powered by a tiny naturally aspirated 3 cylinder SOHC-engine, that spits out barely over 60 horses at ridiculous high revs. But it looks like a mini NSX, thus, I took it to tuner shop and asked them to slap a turbo and all other possible goodies on it, resulting more satisfying 150bhp and then some more with a bottle of giggles.. The car was also lightened, the rims were changed and in addition, it has a wing that will limit the top speed around 120mph, I suppose. But these cars were never about top speeds on straights, but the speed on corners. No weight = No understeer causing inertia. And now, onto the challenge. You have purchased your Kei-cars and tuned them as you wish. Now you have to see how much the added performance helps you in the snowy roads of Chamonix rally track. Winner will not have weight penalty, but losers will gain 1KG per every second between him and the winner. Oh dear.. well, Lancia had mid-engined rally car, MG had Metro.. so how hard can it be? I knew what to expect with Charmonix. Afterall, last time we were here, my Acura CL trounced the competition, a victory well fought for, mind you. I wondered about my low ride height on the rough stuff. After a phonecall to the kind chap at R-Style Inc., he explained how even if we raised the height, the car would still be too low, so we left the ground scraping stance alone. On my hotlap, I could feel my underbody hitting the snow. I didnt think much of it at the time, until this happened... Yes, my little Honda got stuck... No doubt Clarkson is absolutely laughing his buttocks off in his Beat after seeing my Today stuck on the enbankment. I asked management about the situation, if I'm allowed a retry or not... still waiting on an answer though... Edit: Management let me retry. If thats good or bad I dont know, before I set off again I noticed my bumper was trashed perhaps a sign? My time: 2'51.175 I got a 2'56, but for my best lap I used that gas... 171bhp baby This post has been edited by VTiRoj on Nov 9 2007, 03:54 PM |

Anyway, now we onto the second challenge! For this challenge, you are to equip dirt tyres, and head to the tropical track of Tahiti Maze. Same rules apply, but there is a catch: in case you spin out, you have to reverse to the exit of the next corner. wall contacts will lead to penalty weight of 5kg per contact. But.. look at those hills! I bet someone will get stuck.. or quite close to it.. Oh, and the word is, that contestant who unfortunately achieves the last position in these challenges, will get to drive a White Beetle.. that has been hooked up with Hammond's latest music album "Oliver and I", and tooth whitening kits for a year! I don't want to drive the White Beetle.. |

Can anyone make me a new (NTSC) GT4 save file with the name Outlaw on it? But before doing so, please go to the options, and switch off the intro movie. From there, save in the garage in Simulation mode. From there, send me the .max file. I should be fine by there. I realised that my GT4 disc can't do arcade mode anymore, but is all right with simulation mode, go figure. Thank God I have a friend nearby who plays GT4 as well. >_< If it works.. just look out if Captain Slow pops by like the Botswana challenge This post has been edited by outlaw-2 on Nov 15 2007, 05:10 AM |

IDW's neighbourhood Roj Group: Advanced Members Posts: 1,973 Member No.: 15,576 Joined: Jan 25th 2006 Location: England | Well, I arrived at Tahiti, and before I even got out of my Today, the production crew had already stuffed 17kg in my car... mainly consisting of little weights stolen from a gym I took another look at my front end, which still bares the damage from the snow crash. The bumper was bent, but that was about it as far as I saw. Water dripped from the radiator, I thought it was leaking from the impact, but it was just snow melting. So, I bolted on the snow tyre equipped Volk wheels R-Style Inc. have supplied me with all through this ordeal, and went onto track. I knew every wall hit would cost me 5kg, and possibly breaking my car, so I was prepared to baby the little Honda around the maze. I have no worries of spinning out, nor of getting stuck. Sand and gravel wont hurt my Today as much as the snow... I hope. Thanks to R-Style Inc., even with dirt tyres my Today handles the tarmac section with ease, and I was worshipping them all through the lap when I hit the rough stuff. Despite the low stance, the Today flew over bumps! Then when I let off the giggle gas, I was doing 70mph! On dirt! Around the last tarmac section I actually experienced oversteer too I only did 1 lap, despite my fun, and the Honda holding up well, I didnt want to damage my bodywork more Time: 2'58.425 |

I can meet you halfway I think, I got a save named CMX which has the licenses done, and the rarer cars in the garage. What hasn't been done is the races so it is still at 0% completion rate. Furthermore, you will certainly have enough money for any kind of challenge. | ||

Though, I hope my GT4 skills hasn't gone out. Been pre-occupied grinding my characters in Valkyrie Profile 2 for the final battle against Lezard Valeth. Damn the steep level curve.
