I got a doubt translating the Manga to Brazilian Portuguese. In Vol.4, chapters 33 and 34, Iketani and a watcher (page 12) say the guntape deathmatch is dangerous for MT drivers, while for AT drivers is 100% guarantee. In one scene (chap 34), Shingo uses the handbreak in the corner. In Anime, Shingo's Civic is MT and it's possible watch him doing a punta taco.

Pretty sure all the cars that participate in the races in the series are manuals. The only autos that I can recall having seen in the manga or anime is the car that the boss of the gas station drives and that Mercedes Benz that Papa drives.

For me sounds strange because Shingo was smart about the rules, knowing how to run with the tape and the differences about the AT and MT. I tried to find some page of him shifting but none in Vol.4 =\

Shingo never drove an automatic. Those lines about him driving auto were simply a huge mistranslation on the scanlator's part. Said scanlator later made an equally huge mistranslation during the end of the 86 VS FC race, where if Shingo and Nakazato's conversation is to be believed, Nakazato's R32 also suddenly turned into an automatic.

The only way to accurately translate whatever was actually said in the manga is to grab the Japanese raws and translate directly from Japanese. The currently existing English scanlations for those particular lines are about as accurate as something from Tokyopop.

EDIT: If you can find the original Japanese text for those lines, I'll help you retranslate them to something correct. If finding the Japanese text is impossible, then just replace all the "automatic VS manual" nonsense with the FF VS FR stuff from the more correctly translated anime.

The only English translation avaliable in all the manga sites I read made this mistake. I tried to find the raw, but only from the end of series (Fifth and Final Stage Arc). Sadly I can't translate direct from Japanese by myself. Thanks for the help. happy.gif

If it matters, Shingo is shown to have 3 pedals and is shifting gears in the anime. Then again, the anime changes a few things here and there so...

I think it's hilarious you're even asking this question.

The new community is stifled by heckling like that. Stop it.

If you really live in Japan, you are blessed to have Initial D original manga and movies to enjoy. I can't buy the original manga to read and make the direct translation because I don't know japanese. My only source is from a bad english translation from years ago. Brazil has a small Initial D fanbase and I wish the original manga here someday, not from Tokyopop, once of publishers have the rights from some Kodansha's series.
