Though most polled don't hate anime, the ones who do list Initial D as their 3rd most hated show. I really can't even begin to imagine why that is...

Probably:

-They are jealous that Japan performance cars are MEGA-AWESOME!
-(In the minds of the Chinese) Why is their "Chinese Cars"(Cherry, Lifan etc.) not featured in that show? WHY?!?!?!?!?!

I hope Light Yagami is now writing the names who voted his show and initial d. awesome.gif

because the once great show has become a joke of its former self. It's barely crawling to the finish line 5 years past the due date

That or it takes place in Japan, which China is not fond of. Just look at history.

Think about it, Initial D promotes illegal street racing, and China is a communist country. Kinda blends together in a way in terms of China hating it, cause watching it is like being free without having to deal with anyone stopping anyone from street racing.

I think i'll wait for Celestial/RED/KIX to re-run it on my cable... i always seem to miss it. I'm curious as of how bad it actually is.

It's decent as a dramatic racing movie. It's absolutely terrible as an Initial D movie.

Believe me, as a Chinese/Initial D fan myself, I can tell you that Chinese people's dislike of Initial D is all because of the Live-Action movie. (well, + a number of minor factors, no 5th stage, slow in coming out with manga....etc) Jay Chou basically destroyed Takumi's image to people who have yet to watch anime for themselves. Ask yourselves, would you have any interest in the anime after watching that movie?

2 facts that people might not know about the movie:

-Most of the production money came from Jay Chou himself.
-Despite his(Jay) horrible acting, as the world can see from the recent Hollywood flop,"Green Hornet", he actually won awards at an Asian film awards ceremony.(For best rookie actor, sry, I have no better way of translating it)

Yes I agree. Out of >1 billion people in China there's bound to be some people who dislike ID. It does not mean that most of Chinese hate the anime, and I don't think it has anything to do with the Chinese-Japanese history either. ID is just about car racing, after all.

IDK what they think of ID before the movie came out, but yeah unfortunately the movie is a very poor interpretation of the series altogether.
I'm still pissed that they excluded Keisuke and made Kyouichi into a street gangster mad.gif

Well, some of you say that China or Japan or whatever hates ID because of what they represents. Now this is the exact same thing as the Fast and the Furious did, and it haven't been any problems. Ofc, they ruined the Street Racing in USA, and if you get caught they will wreck your car as a message. If someone even tried to wreck or hurt my car, police or whoever, i would have knocked the dudes face so hard he couldn't recognize himself.

Police in USA are so stupid it hurts -.-

Sorry for the OT, but i get carried away sometimes. :\

The Chinese have nothing to compare to ID's (other than the movie) awesomeness so the only option they have is to hate.

Funny how that site said China banned Death Note. I bought Death Notes DVDs and merchandise from a local video shop there not too long ago. I wonder who is spreading the "fear of a rising China" propaganda here? rolleyes.gif

Its just a poll thing, nothing serious. And then there was that one user who said it was mostly because of the live action movie thing.

I can imagine why some people in a poor, communist country would hate it.

The story of Initial D is the exact OPPOSITE if what a communist Chinese would like.

It's about Japanese people who have so much money and free time that they can spend tens of thousands if dollars on the ultimate Western excess: sports cars. And not just owning them, racing them illegally, and spending more than the average annual Chinese salary on just mods and tuning.. And to make things worse, all the cars are Japanese.

From a Japanese or Western perspective, a used sports car is something cool that you could buy relatively easy, whereas the average Chinese person could never afford a decent regular car, much less a gas guzzling GTR or RX7. They're a play thing for the rich.

China is not a "poor, communist country", or at least not to the extent that you would imagine it to be.

( Sorry about the necrobump, I saw one of the searchbots looking at this thread and thought I would take a gander ).

The fact that the cars are Japanese would only matter in a sense that the average Chinese citizen values European cars over anything else. Anything that is not European is second grade. Heck, they hold American carmakers in higher regard ( Buick is very, very popular over there ).

Japanese makes have their place over there, but they only hold a mid-market appeal at most, filling in between domestic makes, and American makes. They are generally not seen as something to be bought when desiring performance, although the odd STi or Evo can be spotted here and there.

I thought them Chinese made most of their own cars, except for the odd rich Chinese guy that got an Audi...

There are a lot of domestic cars ( and I do mean a lot ), but most people aspire to own a non-chinese car. And those people are in larger numbers than you would think. wink2.gif

Volvo gets a bad rep there now, ever since it is Chinese owned.
