Thats some pretty damn fun to watch driving. That moment over the hill at around the 1:45 mark was particularly well handled and impressive

Looking good! Did you get a chance to meet or chat with Ryan at all? He placed third in class as well.

Unfortunately not; I'm not quite the caliber of driver Ryan is, but I'm sure I'll have the opportunity to cross paths in the future smile.gif

He was in the "A" session, while I was stuck in the "B" session. Sucks being in the faster end of the group...

He's a good guy, super open and humble. You should actively take the opportunity to cross paths when you get the chance.

On that note, actually, you should keep us posted on where all you'll be competing next season, I need to get out of the state more often than I do.

The disturbing part is that all that results in a lap time only 4 seconds faster than just coilovers, tires, and brakes...

I have a pipe dream of a F2xC turbo swapped into a BRZ...

Cuz the stock BRZ drivetrain can't handle much more torque than stock.

The mod list makes the car sound/look MUCH faster than it really is. It has acceleration equal to that of a AP2 S2k, and loses to a 350Z in a straight line.

In another thread, you gave this list in decreasing order of importance regarding lap times: "Tire, spring/damper, swaybars, alignment"

Where would brakes fall in this list? Just curious.

But yeah, with that kind of mod list, you'd expect better gains. Then again, every split second counts and it becomes harder and harder to knock another second off your time.

YouTube is blocked at work, so I haven't viewed the video yet. Nevertheless, sounds like you did well (not that an amateur like myself could tell). Nice job.

Brakes generally prevent performance degradation, rather than improve performance.

In this case, a VERY small (marginal at best) difference may be present from the lightweight 2 piece rotor setup with lighter calipers. I'm not sure if the moment of inertia is smaller or greater; that's what really matters.

The stock BRZ rotor is a 299x24 piece, and was replaced with a 299x32 piece. The stock 2 piston floating caliper was replaced with a 4 piston fixed caliper.

The video has a rather... heinous error, which cost me the record for the platform. The official time put me 0.3 seconds behind the Evasive FRS; I was on pace to run a 1:57.x

*edit

Tires improve performance
Springs/dampers improve contact with the ground
Sways fine tune how efficiently you use tires front/rear
Alignment fine tunes how efficiently you use tire contact patch

Brake balance quite often has a more direct impact on braking than actually upgrading the calipers/rotors. For modern cars is not so bad out of the box, although it can usually be tweaked a bit (Heavy understeer tends to be favored as its the safest/easiest to drive with)- But can easily be altered to be off and necessitate a means of adjustment when some common mods are done (Weight reduction altering weight distribution, aftermarket brake pads, aero mods, different sized tires, etc- just to name a few in no particular order). Most cars can lock up the tires at any speed- Which means theyve already got more "braking power" than the tires can handle anyways- Giving "MOAR!" braking power with bigger brakes wont add much in terms of stopping power. As Psy so elegantly states already- They just (usually!) mean you can maintain peak performance for longer.

Psy- its scary what mods it takes to go fast and how little we start to get for the mods weve done. Im not terribly surprised at how the acceleration compares to those others when youre only making a bit north of 200 whp. It is, imo, what that car *should* have made out of the box though- Vs what weve got now. Ive seen a small handful of them now in that range and it really brings them to "life". I mean Ffs, honda was making that power almost 14 years ago from their 2 liter..

Tell me about it... My personal car is a s2k.

The performance of this BRZ is on par with a S2k that is similarly modded. Ironically, the price of a new s2k + coilover/brakes/aero is the same as the price of a new BRZ + coilover/brakes/aero + turbo kit + supporting mods.

The real difference is that the BRZ is still using the tires more efficiently, regardless of the suspension disadvantage, and provides far more feedback through the chassis and steering. Once the BRZ's drivetrain woes are solved, the car will be easier to make faster than a S2000.

On the S2k, you can make a metric fckton of power without any supporting mods.

This is with just a supercharger, injectors, tune, and oil coolers (for the supercharger and engine). ZERO other supporting mods, except for a single engine fan. Yes, it doesn't overheat, even with me beating on it in 120F ambient temps at the track!!!
