Most of them are real. The anime makers of ID go to the passes and take pictures of the passes and replicate it into the anime.

Attention Initial D fans that want to know track locations!

I had been on Google Earth and had bookmarked just about every track raced on in Initial D, including the Kanagawa races! Below is the list of tracks and the coordinates to which I've bookmarked them on. Just copy the coordinates from this page and then paste it on the 'Fly To' bar on Google Earth. I also included the location of the Fujiwara Tofu Shop! (Tracks not included are: Sadamine [FD3S vs. FD3S], Maze [AE86 vs. Cappuccino]] and Yabitsu [AE86 vs. NB8C Roadster]).

Akina (Haruna): 36░29'40.02"N, 138░54'18.82"E
Akagi: 36░32'0.11"N, 139░ 9'52.60"E
Myogi: 36░17'6.37"N, 138░44'26.27"E
Usui: 36░21'16.71"N, 138░39'44.67"E
Irohazaka: 36░44'49.63"N, 139░30'45.70"E
Nisshien-Momiji Line: 36░55'32.96"N, 139░45'13.17"E
Shiona (Enna): 36░59'34.88"N, 139░48'34.66"E
Happogahara: 36░55'31.90"N, 139░49'12.65"E
Shomaru: 35░56'29.99"N, 139░ 9'37.37"E
Tsuchisaka: 36░ 3'40.79"N, 138░50'52.18"E
Tsukuba: 36░10'23.43"N, 140░10'0.33"E
Nagao: 35░16'26.14"N, 138░57'50.70"E
Hakone-Nanamagari: 35░12'33.96"N, 139░ 3'31.05"E
----------------------------------------
Fujiwara Tofu Shop: 36░29'49.12"N, 139░ 0'9.87"E (Identifiable through neighbouring Panoramio pic)

Enjoy!

P.S: Funny Fact: I know Haruna, Akagi and Irohazaka like the back of my hand, and I've never driven those roads!

This is bad ass. Thanks smile.gif

SiNNyy would be correct if he/she was referring to Haruna "Akina" only. But since that's about the only location they didn't use the real name for, it hardly count as all of the locations.

Sorry, a bit different but:
Shomaru pass is really really hard to race on!!
The chance that you crash if you hardly know the touge is 95%.
You just can't read the road... Akina is slighty easier but you still should know all the harpins...

Hey guys, I've been into Japanese car culture for a while and watching Initial D now. Wakes up a feeling inside me.. Wana drift there! w00t2.gif
Anyway, you guys have any idea if people still drift there or if the Police rule now?
Some general advice for an eventual trip would also be golden whistling.gif

When I get to the spot where the Fujiwara Tofu Shop once stood, I'm definantly gona have a cig and take some Bunta/Takami pics cool.gif
Would be legend buying an 86 and make it look like Akinas 86, then put it next to where the tofu shop was for pics.
Someone should also put together a funding thing to rebuild the tofu shop..

Thanks guys.

There are large bumps on just about any corner you can think of that would make drifting or driving spiritedly on those roads an incredibly bad idea, not to mention you're going to get a drift car on a mere visit? I hope you have connections up the ass.

I doubt it would be worth visiting the old tofu spot since it's gonna be developed and won't look a thing like what you think it will. I also doubt anyone will rebuild the shop since there's already a museum for it and development has dictated that that land is already repurposed.

All these pipe dreams...

Those speed bumps are only on Mt. Haruna as far as i know.
About the car, should'nt be to hard to get considering the huge market for cars down there (Doesnt need to be a full blood drift car..)
What is this museum you're talking about?

Akagi has a bunch of anti drift crap on it. My friend recently brought back some video of his MK X going through most of the Gunma roads and there's bumps and cats eye metal markers everywhere. I hope you realize that you can't just rent a car that's built for touge drifting there. Unlike Europe, almost all common places will only rent automatics first off. Second, the liability of renting a car with an aggressive rear differential to a foreigner on mountain roads incenses even my sensibility and most people that know me here know I'm willing to accept some pretty insane precepts as reasonable. Even with my very far reaching connections, I probably couldn't swing one of the shops I'm friendly with to borrow a drift car for touge. If you do rent a rear wheel drive through the mountain, even if it's manual, without a proper rear differential it's practically suicide. You'll crash, and it will just perpetuate the stereotype that foreigners mess things up for them there. Don't do it.

Just drive a normal car there normally and you'll be fine.

I was looking on Akina with google maps. Like someone previously said there are bumps along certain corners of the pass mainly the 5 hairpins but from the looks up it they havin't been really maintained. Most of them are broken up and not much remains. Going downhill I didn't notice much till the 5 hairpins.

Here is Yabitsu touge from 5th Stage Episode 3 vs the Real Yabitsu touge, at Asama Shrine:

I've been a huge Initial D fan for over 10 years now, but haven't been to any of the locations in real life yet!!! (>_<)
Considering I live in Japan now and own an S15 completely set-up for drift, I absolutely have to visit these places now! Also, Yabitsu is about an hour away from where I live, I might make this place my usual weekend driving location from now on!!!! biggrin.gif

Looking at the pics on street view, it seems to be completely un-molested by the government with cats-eyes and speed bumps like Mt. Haruna and Akagi have been. You can even see lines on the road from the tire drift marks cool.gif

The ESSO stand used in Initial D isn't in Gunma, it is in Nerima-ward of Tokyo:

I figured this would be the place to ask this. Would anyone happen to know if Tsukaba's pass has sakura trees?

By "Tsukaba's pass", do you mean "Tsubaki Line"?

If so, yes, there are sakura trees on it:

Image search for Tsubaki Line and Sakura

Also, I went to Nagao-touge recently, I posted these in the "trackday photos" thread already (I went to Fuji Speedway too):

There used to be poles in the center between lanes and cats eyes for the first ~200m or so near the summit. I got that info by looking at videos of Nagao and talking to some people I met at Fuji Speedway that drift there. Someone removed all the poles and catseyes, and filled in the holes where the cats eyes were though. Just take a look, this streetview picture is probably not too old:
https://maps.google.co.jp/maps?q=%E9%95%B7%...7,,0,17.64&z=17
I wonder why someone doesn't do the same on Akagi and such? Oh well....

Next up to visit are probably Nanamagari, Tsubaki Line, Yabitsu, Toyo Turnpike, and Mikuni....

This is a list of all the mountain passes/touge in Kanagawa:

Come join us then! To live here, you don't need to be in the military or an English teacher (I'm not). I didn't know a single word of Japanese (maybe besides "Konnichiwa") back in 2003 (when I registered here)... and now I have a house, car, and job here in Kanagawa.
Still working on getting a wife... but soon enough... sweatingbullets.gif
If it's not your objective to live in Japan though and to just drive the touge... I'll let anyone drive my car as long as they go slow, are easy on the clutch, and promise not to crash grin2.gif

Not sure if this was posted yet, but here is an interesting video from Irohazaka in the early-mid 90's:
YOUTUBE ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYbYCldrGMg )

Those cops are real bastards setting up speed traps and license/reg checkpoints right in the middle of Irohazaka. Also, that guy at the end.... laugh2.gif awesome.gif
