Why cheap out on something as critical as a wastegate, last thing you need is to have a wastegate failure and blow yet another motor.

nah dude it's cool, vgs can take 40 psi no prob so a wastegate is more cosmetic than anything

+1

I have the same wastegate in my STI and it has worked flawlessly. They run this wastegate in the Element Tuning time attack car and never have seen an issue.

so what your saying is a brand name wastegate has NEVER failed in all of history? not even possible for a bad batch?

gee thanks, okay cool....

there are forms of over boost protection... i hope you know... even with a brand name wastegate i would not place all my trust in it just because it has a brand name.

there's a difference between buying wisely and buying advertised stuff that works because everyone says it works. so i buy a precision wastegate right? even though they OUTSOURCE all their parts from china now? turbos, wastegates, etc etc.... but it's okay right? because it's a brand name.

nah dude it's cool, since you know where that cheapass wastegate was made--made with precision hammers and pliers by carlos at home depot--that makes it way superior to those outsourced pieces of junk from so-called name brand companies

rock on man, why even bother asking the forum when you already know the answer? cool.gif

I dont understand why you have such a problem with me? this is not the first time I've seen you say something like this. what did i do to you to piss you off so much that you dislike someone you never met? there's been a few times where your very sarcastic with a tone of seriousness it bothers me because i have not done anything to you recently to say anything against you or your being.

is it because of the car i drive? the fact that i cant make up my mind on a engine? what is your problem with me? seriously.

I've got a Tial wastegate. Woudn't run anything else. And just so you know, my boost-signal hose is braided stainless, so it won't melt. I've heard of that happening with rubber hoses. Then they hit 80psi boost and the head gasket comes flying out.

You know a steel braided hose will still melt just like a rubber hose would, the only advantage to steel braided is it keeps the hose from ballooning out under high pressure.

Misconception 3) Braided hose is indestructible.

Truth; The interwoven strands are the only protection the inner hose has but if only ‘one’ strand gets damaged, the whole hose integrity is lost, because the inner plastic (PTFE) hose has no strength. Contrary to people’s expectations, it is very easy to snag more than one strand on a sharp edge, especially when routing the hose through the car.

so I bought a emusa W/G and rebuilt it with a TiAL diaphragm and a TiAL valve with valve seat. total all in all $150 into it including the W/G

the valve guide clearance was not too bad either. opens pretty flawlessly too.

Not just like rubber. PTFE melts a lot higher than pretty much any rubber I've ever seen. It'll certainly take a lot more heat then the rubber that is traditionally used for vacuum hoses.

I guess silicone vacuum hoses would hold up to more heat than whatever is stock, but you don't get the bonus thermal reflectivity that stainless provides. I guess you could wrap your silicone in gold leaf...

If you're going to have a loose hose bouncing around near a hot exhaust manifold, I think a stainless hose is a perfectly worthwhile investment. Mine came with the turbo kit.

Semantics. "Just like a rubber hose, a steel braided hose will melt." The point was that a braided hose isn't some steel indestructible hardware, it has a core of PTFE (which does melt!) and the braided steel surrounding it can be weakened to speed that process.

The point wasn't that it worked at the same temperature, the point was that the hose is not magic and invulnerable.

why would you even need this? seriously? i could understand if a vacuum hose has to go over a hot exhaust manifold but im running regular hoses on my wastegate and it's all fine.

And it likely will be. There's really not much need for braided vacuum lines, most high boost setups that would otherwise warrant them delete 90% of that crap anyway. Standard rubber is fine.

Also semantics: I said "won't melt" not "can't melt."

They use PTFE in non-stick cookware.

honestly i would love braided hose on my engine bay JUST for appearance they look so sick when you open the hood. it's really a eye catcher, but thats about it.

kinda like the whole silicone vs rubber radiator hose thing haha.
