In all light, MT is faster. I mean, I cut 12-14 seconds off of some of my times just after switching.

never played AT, and dont think I'll ever feel the need to.

However I do like to downshift in the middle of a turn, making the rear end slide out waaaaay more cool.gif Not sure that's easily accomplished in an AT.

the thing about automatic is u have to use the break to compinsate for the extra downshift that u cannot do

Actually, the funny thing is, you CAN downshift in ID even if you drive AT. However, you cannot upshift. Sounds weird, doesn't it? But it's true. You can downshift manually in AT.

Personally, I use MT, because that way you can control the car more. You can take corners at your desired speed using MT. But, in order to use MT to its full potential one must learn the correct shifting points for the car (get better acceleration).

AT is mostly for beginner players. You can't corner at your desired speeds, and your shifting points are dull and crappy (the computer always upshifts at the redline for you).

i personally is a MT driver but i did try a AT before. it was my frd's stock FD on ver 1. i just played happro out and on the straightaways i found the car goin a bit faster than my half tuned FD... i unno y, maybe i was just more forcused with the turns becuz i didn't have to shift. i just find it a lil faster on straights, but turnin sux cuz u can't down up shift! *btw if u r wonder, i was a newb bak then*

I changed from auto to manual on my first card inspection. It seems that with manual u have alot more control of your car and u can go faster because of it.

I rely on my old matics for courses I suck on(IE Akina, Happo, Shomaru). Otherwise its all about manual. Automatic does not suck, because it has shift points well enough for intermediate players to deal with. It took me a WHILE to get the hang of manual, so I never totally shun AT or AT users. Manual is always gonna have much more potential, but its hard to learn for a newbie.

im a MT and i have never tryed AT but my friend uses it i was. i was watching him play one time and i thought to myself if it was me there i would be going nuts trying to shift all the time and not abil to i find that i would be alot more focused when playing a MT but like i said i havnt ever tryed a AT so i dont know if my thoery would be true or not.

P.S. i started out with a MT and i figured it would be easier to just start with it and learn rather than start with a AT and have to learn later on how to use a MT its all about the $$$ you have to spend on the game i gess.

I am an automatic user, and I'm proud of it cool.gif I use automatic because I'm too used to driving with an auto in real life, anyways I don't think I have the coordination required for a manual. Yes, manual does seem to have a great advantage against auto, but a skilled auto player can hold his own. I played a version 2 game against 200,000+ point DC2 with my humble 20,000 point RX-7 FD on Usui wet and I lost (I was still a beginner then but I was used to Usui). Needless to say I was trailing all the way, but only by less than 50 metres average.

If you use auto, be proud of it and keep practicing! Oh, when I beat a manual player with roughly the same points level as mine (I am still playing Time trial on Version 3 to raise my points to at least 80,000), I'll post the result here and show the world it's not that bad.

Ahh, im manual, but my problem is im 1337 at Daytona USA and Sega Rally 2...

On Daytona
I run 16 second laps as an average on beginner, 41 second laps on advanced as an average and 1:36 laps as an averages on expert ( ive only been playin expert for about a month )

On Sega Rally 2
Dunno the lap times, but at my local Timezone, i have 9 of the 16 records on the machine biggrin.gif

I kinda took up Initial D coz when i first saw it i fell in love with it. It seem'd really kool and i wanted a challenge and to do something new. And im glad im startin, anyway, im finding manual hard but im still new, but, hopefully ill get better happy.gif

I choose manual for all the games that I play. I find it more of a challenge and for more of an advanced player, and since I just love racing, I have to pick manual for every racing game!!
