I'm wondering if downloads for the episodes in that set are available (Third, Battle, Extra, and Fourth Stages). If so, could I know? Thanks in advance!

I'm also looking for this

This $360.⁰⁰ USD thing? →

Weren't the BD releases just a shoddy upscale of the original R2 DVD's? unsure.gif

Also, Avex telling CD Japan that they can't ship Initial D audio/video products to gaijinz in effort to combat piracy is like the worst xenophobic suicide shooting yourself in the foot-job any anime company's done since Commodore Perry opened the ports in that film with Ken Watanabe & Tom Cruise eons ago derp.gif

WOAH!So it is worth owning the BD Pit stop thingamajiggies!!? ohmy.gif

According to the title of those vids, the animation was remastered... I was under the belief that that wasn't the case unsure.gif ・・・

For Third Stage and Battle Stage, yeah. I'm not sure about Extra Stage. IIRC, Fourth Stage still looks like "shit" because it wasn't mastered in HD to begin with.

Avex claims all the video in the box sets to be "remastered" but that's hardly the case for most of it.

Dang ~ I'm mostly interested in 3rd Stage & Fourth.

300 USD isn't worth any movie though... pinch2.gif

I got the first set, and... yes, I will admit that $360+ is undesirable, even for me, but... this is Japan, guys. They always put high price tags on home video.

That's strange. Now, I admit I don't have that ridiculously expensive set, but what I saw from it certainly wasn't what I would consider 'gorgeous' by any stretch of the imagination. However, it's entirely possible that what I saw wasn't legitimate.

Is there any way you could post screenshots from your copy, say from a random episode of first stage and a random episode of second stage?

I got the first set, and I consider myself lucky; You can still get Initial D videos from Japan, and I have to say: the video quality I got is gorgeous. Razor-sharp graphics compared to Funimation's dvd release. Yes, I will admit that $360+ is undesirable, even for me, but... this is Japan, guys. They always put high price tags on home video.

Shoo, Avex shill.

That's interesting. Every screenshot out there of the First Stage rerelease just looks like an ugly upscale that's been warpsharped to hell and back, and only the Third Stage rerelease has been confirmed to be a true remaster thus far.

So yeah, I'm curious to know if Pit 1 really is anything more than a lazy resize and filter job.

Now that you guys mention it, I can see some flaws with Avex, and I can see the signs of upscaling. But... I don't think I could deny the fact that it generally looks better than Funimation's release. Unless I knew what cheap tricks Avex had up their sleeve to make it look, as Itsuki would put it, "COOOOOL!"

If it is at all possible to provide screenshots of what you have so we can compare it to what's been released here, that would still be greatly appreciated. smile.gif

I can't upload the screenshot I have, but from what I can see, the BD release cropped the top ever-so-slightly. But compared to the Funi. release, the colors and graphics look sharper compared to the Funi version.

Upload it to a file-sharing site such as Imgur and use the IMG tag on IDW to post it. IDW will automatically provide an original-resolution link.

As an alternative, you can ZIP all the screenshots and upload the ZIP to a file-sharing service such as Sendspace or Mega, then link that here in a post.

Well, here's what I have for Ep. 10:

As mentioned earlier, though the BD version is cropped compared to the Funi. release, the colors and graphics look better on the former.

Oh good, your bluray looks exactly like what we have. Nothing new to see here, it's pretty lackluster but understandable considering the film masters are either long gone or Avex has no interest in recompositing them.

The 'cropping' is just because it's a DVD. DVDs back in the day were mastered with overscan in mind, so there was always a little border on them. It wasn't until quite late in DVD production that progressive-scan and borderless video became a thing. Initial D is old enough to not follow those conventions.

Hell, Fourth Stage was mastered in 4:3 and used black bars to go 16:9. Talk about crap!

I'm pretty lucky to not have gotten the BD set of Fourth Stage, now that you mention it. However, I still would like to see Third Stage and Battle Stage.

The reason I got set 1 was because I wanted a good picture quality of the first 2 seasons, so I could edit them without quality loss.

Oh, you do have Fourth Stage on BD? Would you be able to post a screenshot from that as well? I would -assume- they would go 16:9 native, but they could also have just upscaled to 1440:1080.

EDIT: Oh, you mean you didn't get it. Drat! I have yet to see someone who does have it, so I don't know how they did the transfer.

Sorry, but I don't have Fourth Stage on BD; only Stages 1 and 2. I probably didn't make myself clear on that. I meant to say that I'm lucky I didn't get boxset 2; expensive would be an understatement for that one!

But I -do- wish downloads for Third and Battle Stages would be available in BD format for download, though.

No worries, sorry for the misunderstanding.

I'm considering on buying the set if necessary, if I've the cash. That doesn't mean I will; all I want is to see the Third, Battle, and Extra Stages remastered.
