Right now I am playing around with the Beta using VMWare on my Mac... Figures it'd be sluggish at times since I give it only 1 GB of RAM and like 18 GB of space. |

Yes, if you plan to try it more than 30 days. If not, you can leave it un-activated. EDIT
According to many testers on SevenForums.com, it would run without a hitch on the minimal recommandation : 1GHz CPU 512MB of RAM 12 GB of Hard drive DX9 compatible graphic card With that, you can run Word and browse Internet and listen to music without problems but not much more than that. If you use that config, it'll use ~415MB of RAM permanently. To run it decently, 2GB of RAM will be way enough. A DX10 card for recent games. I currently have 2.4GHz dual core cpu, 2GB or RAM, a GeForce 8500 and it runs like a charm. Also, if it runs on netbooks, you will probably be able to run it on your computer. A bug filed in build 7000 haven't been fixed, and no it isn't a random freeze or crash that comes after use, it is a LOT worse than that. Say hello to MS BSOD on INSTALL, yes you read that right, it spits out a nice BSOD when installing before you have done ANY input except telling it to boot from the CD drive. What does it nag about? "Multiprocessor_Configuration_Not_Supported" and in the FAQs it is stated as when you combine a Pentium class CPU with a 486... Fair enough. But in my case, it was an E8600 which have 2x IDENTICAL cores. 48 builds or attempts at fixing it later, the bug is still there. Granted it is beta, but if this is how serious they are taking the bug reports or fixing bugs I doubt Windows 7 will be stable, thats for sure. |

I have played Quake 2 (1997) and Diablo 2 (2000) on Vista. Both has incredibly old graphics engines and need a very small machine to run (despite the requirement for Vista). Also, if it works on Vista, it works on Windows 7. But games that needs additional drivers or additional Windows core modification will unlikely play on Vista/7 since the core has changed a lot. I checked Wikipedia for Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault. The game was done in 2002 and uses Quake III's engine. I believe that Quake 3 works #1 on Vista (since Quake II works). So, have no fear, it'll work. EDIT Check this : http://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/3820-win...ility-list.html P.S x86 = 32bits, x64 = 64bits This post has been edited by Lebon14 on Mar 14 2009, 10:47 PM

I mean I still love that game. But i think ill wait for windows 7 for my next computer build and would probobly end up paying up for an i7 as well.... From what i have read, windows seven looks and seems better than vista... thanks for the info Lebon14 |

IDW Goldmember Group: Advanced Members Posts: 4,217 Member No.: 5,199 Joined: Jan 22nd 2005 Location: Melbourne, Australia | i'm on Seven right now on a laptop that i'll be using for the next week or so until my new desktop comes in. i've never used a beta of an OS before but this seems pretty solid coming from using XP for as long as i can remember. it looks nice, it performs nice, and there hasn't been any issues at all. quick specs i'm on are 2GHz & 2GB RAM. as i login to Seven everything is ready to go with minimal loading. i didn't really know what to expect because i'm usually years behind the latest technology in PCs but it was a nice surprise to find that it ran very nicely. i can't compare it to Vista as the PC i had wouldn't have been able to run it, but with that said it seems to be a step in the right direction judging by what i have heard. i'd doubt that the beta of Seven is complete enough to run on a main PC, but i'll definately be looking forward to installing it once it becomes officially released. for the mean time it'll be over to Vista for me. |

Extremely fast OS and it's simply amazing. If you wish to try it out, you know where to get it right.........? Btw, the RC release is supposed to be on May 5 for Technet and MSDN and May 15 for the public. Of course, serials and downloads are free for the public. |

I just built my computer over the weekend, only have Windows 7, 7100 build, runs smooth. Haven't had a single problem with it. The only thing I have had some trouble with is that I brought over a whole bunch of programs from my old computer, but forgot that they were on XP (32) and would not run in 7 (64), but, that just meant that I had to download replacements, no big deal. I am running 7 only, and I intend to purchase it when it does release, in like June 2010 or whenever.

If it really does come out this October, then it looks like I'm skipping Vista. |

Well, I like it a lot in general. The only thing I may have a hunch against is the position of "Show Desktop". I don't like it to be far to the right. Oh and, btw, I dual-boot w/Vista.

Whoa, until just now I didn't realize that is what that button on the far right is for. Kind of weird that there is no graphical representation that it is used to display the desktop. I'm enjoying 7 too, my only beef was that I had to tinker with the CCCP package to get it to work properly with some of my files. I am a bit disappointed though that an application like XMBC doesn't seem to display subtitles when playing MKVs when its Macintosh counterpart (or rather port, named Plex) does it perfectly fine and by default without requiring user input.
