Super awesome car, looks really clean! If you didn't say that it was rear ended then I wouldn't have known! You should be proud of you car, it looks nice and I like it! happy.gif

thanks guys, spent 3 hours detailing the interior yesterday.

The one good side of being single is that my car is always squeaky clean now laugh.gif

Sorry no new updates for a while. Bought a Timing belt kit off a member on LegacyGT.com 2 weeks ago but have not had any contact with the seller so I have the file a paypal dispute mad.gif

Finally figured out the route I want to go with this car. After flogging it around in the snow these past couple days (we have 20cm already biggrin.gif) I've decided that I want to keep it for a long run.

So Stock I make 250bhp, I am honestly content with it, only issues I have is boost dropping off in high RPMS and slow spool up so i'm shooting for 240whp and fast spool up.

Engine is nearing 150,000km so i'm ready to dump alot of maintenance in it. Planned I have is new OEM injectors, MAF sensor, IAT sensor, AVCS oil control valves and IM gaskets, and I guess it wont hurt to put in a new thermostat and PCV valve. Coilpacks and new OEM plugs will be put in as well.

As for performance looking already have a COBB SF intake that I can install and will be buying a AVO turbo inlet and TMIC

Turbo wise I want to run a port and polished VF46 off of a 2007-2009 Legacy GT. Turbo is about the same size as my stock VF40 but has greater mid-range and reliability.

Going to put in new OEM 2007 Legacy GT Clutch and Flywheel, my 05 flywheel is a dual mass compared to the 07 which is single mass, 11lbs saved right there. the 07 OEM clutch is good for 305whp and longevity is great.

As for exhaust i'll be getting a CNT catless downpipe and get a custom 3" midpipe back to my mufflers.

Suspension wise I know I want Bilstein HD shocks, As for springs I may just keep them stock as I like the ride height. Unless I can find some OEM JDM wagon springs which are slightly lower and stiffer. Whiteline sways front and rear too. Oh and every bushing possible.

Thats my plan for now and i'm sticking too it. I just bought a new computer so i'm planning to be a hermit for a long time so I can reach my goals for this car happy.gif

Need some opignions.

Decided that i'll be keeping my rims, they are small I know but I'll throw on a 225 tire and it should give me the extra grip ive been looking for.

As for colour, they arent exactly pretty. its hard to see in this picture but they sorta flip to goldish beige hue in the sun. My idea is to paint them a very bright silver, close to white with posibly a blue pearl.

I've decided that i'll be painting my brakes a very deep violet, I think that should suit the car.

With the car being blue, virtually any color choice for the wheels would work well - Looking forward to seeing what you do!

You should check out DirtyImpreza and introduce yourself! Those guys have a love for all Subarus - and the "Wagon Mafia" there will be very pleased. wink2.gif

If only it was the flat six model.

Finish blacking out the bottom portion of the taillights, it looks awkward with that little bit in the middle.

Why would I want the flat six model? Less power, more weight and if I ever wanted to make more power I would be screwed!!

I only tinted the amber portion of my tailamps.

Any common problems plague these cars? anything i should look out for? I'm playing with the idea of picking up an 05+ GT model as a daily.

blown turbos are the biggest one, rough idle issues due to dirty injectors.

Get used to the transmission whine if you're buying a manual.

Posted by: Spaz Dec 25 2011, 07:59 AM
Get a low mile one and use good oil (Rotella T6), you should be able to keep the turbo going for some time. They are still wear items so don't expect it to last forever.

Of course, once it goes you can toss on a bastard 20G and have some real fun.

Posted by: Mazda ina Ford guy Dec 25 2011, 09:01 AM
Everyone told me the Garrett on my work truck (98 F-550) would never make it to 250k, at 300k (when the Co. went out of buisiness) she was still spooling strong. Anything that can survive 10,000+ rpm and 1000+ deg F for 300,000 miles dosen't seem to qualify as a wear item. smile.gif

actually first thing you should do when you buy one earlier then late 2007 is to remove the banjo bolt filter like I have.

Yes run Rotella T6 with short intervals and I always let her idle for a few min to let the turbo cool down before shutting her off. Not really needed on a Subaru due to the second coolant resevoir tank that gravity feeds through the turbo but it gives me piece of mind.

That's a nifty feature. Another thing you could do is install an oil accumulator. Sure you'll have to wait a bit for the engine to build pressure on initial startup, but it'll feed oil through the turbo for a little while after you shut the engine off.

Why have I never been here? I love Scubby wagons! It's looking clean man. Keep it up!

You've heard it more than once but: that's a very clean looking car you have. You're taking very good care of that Legacy. Also, I like what you've done with it and the stuff you've got planned for it sounds good too.

I'm normally indifferent about wagons, but that's because I don't see impressive ones like this around where I live and because I don't know much about the really good ones. And even without the mods yours would have still impressed me. It's a nice looking car that runs well, has decent performance and seems like its fun to both drive or ride around in. And it looks even nicer because of how clean you're keeping it. I'll be looking forward to seeing how this project comes along.

By the way, what are mid-pipes and down-pipes? What I know about exhaust systems is really just little more than "ideally they throw out exhaust gases really fast so the engine can quickly draw in fresh air", "fluids flow faster when having to squeeze through a smaller space (but flow with less volume so exhausts have to strike a balance)" and "there's this thing called vascular friction".

not really worth it, with an aftermarket turbo and oil feed line it will outlast the car anyways.

Thanks! I try my best to take care of it, hopefully in a couple years or so i'll have enough saved for a full repaint and put on JDM bumpers and beams.

As for the exhaust. Subarus are a little different then most but not by alot.

Exhaust Manifold -> Up-Pipe -> Turbo -> Downpipe -> Midpipe - Axle-back or mufflers

I have 1 cat in my up-pipe and 2 in the downpipe. eliminating those allows me to run more boost and faster spool up.

I'm sorta the same way but I drive my car a bit more. I do oil changes every 100 miles (yup, Shell Rotella in my car too), change out the air filter after every trip to LA and buy new tires if my car sat for more than 2 days. Gotta pay to play, brah.

Posted by: Jardim Dec 26 2011, 04:25 PM
The air filter change after every trip to LA is necesary.

Had a friend do a T-belt change and coolant flush on my wagon thursday night. at about 151,000KM, belt had 3 cracks in it, 2 idlers were making noise and the tensioner was leaking a little. Definetly happy I had it done sooner then later. Broke a nipple on my rad so a quick fix until I am able to order a Mishimoto one.

Hey long time no update! Nothing really to say besides that the car is still running fine since the timing belt install and well I started a new job making much more money.

Talked a friend last night that has a fully build 04 STi, and I mean nothing is stock on the car besides the body.

Anywho heres the hopefully final parts list:

-VF52 (will be sent to Grimmspeed for PnP)
-Tomei EL Header and catless uppipe
-Grimmspeed TGV Deletes
-CNT Catless downpipe
-Some cheap 3" Midpipe
-FMS TMIC
-Deutchworks 740cc Injectors and 65c fuel pump

I'm hoping I can find most parts used. The injectors and pump will be probably the only new parts for sure.

Shooting for 280whp with a really fast spool.

I wish grimmspeed made more products as I would buy them all!

So I found out I have the Sti yellow 550cc injectors so no need to upgrade. I will send them out for cleaning and balancing though.

Also I think I might just use their. Porting service on my stock manifold to save some cash. Apparently low end torque will be better.

OMFG I ACTUALLY BOUGHT SOMETHING!!

Picking up WitchHunter 850cc injectors from a friend probabbly on Wednesday, overkill I know but he wants to get rid of them for $200 so I said sold muthafucka!!

Also got a $1600 check from my old work (vacation hours)

Currently looking online for a full comparasion on whos EL headers are the best.

Actually these ones are but I dont have that kind of moneyz:

Clutch is being ordered tonite, going with a OEM 2007 LGT one, more then enough for my goals and cheap.

Trying to talk a guy down to $400 shipped for a VF46 with 46k miles on it with an AVO actuator

GT Spec EL header with up pipe is $650 brand new so if I dont find something used next month I'll be ordering that.

Finally making some progress smile.gif

I didn't know which thread to post this in so i'll post it here, basicly my wagon was used for hot pursuit tonite.

Was driving home from having a tea with some buddies. Noticed a black what I thought was a Liconln Navigator driving stupidly, changing lanes without signaling and the usual doushebaggery.

So we get to a street which has 4 lanes, I'm in the furthest right cause its a turning lane, doushebag is behind me and a white sunfire is beside me.

DB decides to fly ahead of me and infront on the sunfire and for some reason drive really slow infront of her.

Sunfire changes lanes infront of me.

DB desides to cut hard into the lane left of him and around a ford truck infront of him and hard into my lane again almost parralel into the sunfire.

Sunfire slams the brakes swerves onto the curb nearly missing the pole. This whole situation right as DB swerved left to get around the ford truck was all in slow motion, like matrix or spidey sense.

DB guns it so I drop her in 2nd and and no time am on his tail, we are still in the tuning lane so we turn right. I drop back a few cars cause i'm trying to get out my phone to grab the plate.

So this road is pretty straight so theres no way hes getting away, he swerves and cuts off 2 more cars so I decide that this is just going to end up messy for one of us and as I slow down the ford truck that he cut infront of passes me, I turn around and head back to the sunfire.

Young girl, shes really shaken up, another guy that was in the parking lot comes sees us.

Hes so annoying giving her false advice and is trying to pick her up but I just bite my tongue to not make the poor girl feel worse.

After a while the ford truck shows up and informs us that hes still drive erracdically and it is a Lincoln Aviator and they also called it in.

Night ends with the other guy giving her a long hard forever alone awkward hug and shes like wtf.

She gives me a hug and we go out seperate ways.

No she wasnt that attractive and thats why I didnt ask for her number or anything.

Did an oil change today after about 6000KM, that Rotella always comes out clean!

Also swapped the pinkies for the Prodrives and fixed my skidplate.

Spent about 5 hours working on a friends STi front bumper, will have to take pics once shes done.

Restored my drivers side headlamp a few weekends ago thanks to an awesome detailer at work. My passenger side was replaced a couple years ago from my accident.

So I spent about 15min straight just with 1000 grit to get most of the deeper scratches out, then 2000 grit. After that my buddy took over with the 3000 grit and polisher. Needless to say it looks better then my newer passenger side headlamp!

buying premade deletes are really exspensive and my CEL is driving me nuts right now.

Plan is to get new OEM injectors, intake manifold gaskets and such and get it all done before winter.

Then I'll get a friend to do the deletes on my broken TGVs and reinstall that next summer when I have all the parts necesairy to install my VF46.

I know it sounds like im working backwards but I really dont have the cash for a custom tune just yet.

When I move into my new place and hopefully get a raise at work progress will be made faster I promise!

I comprehend that they're intake manifolds or throttle plate thingies... but I still can't pin the definition, and your link and/or Google doesn't help. >_<

edit: Actually, it does. I just ctrl+f'd "TGV" but it turns out the definition is embedded in the images. Duh!

Hey guys little update, sorry no pictures.

So for a while now Ive been having hesitation problems and idle problems, which is norm for my shitty injectors. I ended up buying the BG 44K fuel system cleaner kit. Comes with a cleaner and fuel system drier you put in the tank and then a spray can with another aditive that you spray in the intake while its running, which was almost impossible to do alone.

But before that I have another story, After work yesterday our boss took a few of us to the indoor go karting, unfortunetly I could not race due to my neck injury so I just watched and after they were done we decided to go out for supper.

Well luck was on our side cause it just so happen that we were transported to a test track in Mexico when we exited the doors and at the end of the track was our restaurant destination.

So I was trying my best to keep up with my boss' 400whp 335i X-drive and my buddys stage 2 STi, they didnt leave me behind too much. We had supper, few drinks then went home.

On my drive to work this morning I noticed something funny, the car felt great.

I had been babying it since last year so all it needed was a good run to clean out the carbon build up im guessing facepalm.gif

I still did the fuel system treatment today and havent noticed much different, hopefully once I put more mileage on this half tank of gas with the cleaner in it it will have helped my idle problems.

So I picked up a used EL header last weekend, It looks like some sort of Tomei Replica, welds look great, piping size doesnt seem to thin so I went for it.

It was wrapped and used for about 5000km or so the previous owner said, I decided to take the wrap off and just coat it to help its longivity.

Not exactly sure what the insert is made out of, from the Spec website:

QUOTE
SPEC billet flywheels are manufactured and developed for specific driving environments and recommended based on how each car reacts to changes in rotating mass. SPEC flywheels are NOT a one-fits-all lightweight flywheel, though they can be used for an array of driving habits and racing/high performance applications. Consult a SPEC representative for a recommendation. Manufactured from only the highest quality steel and aluminum, they are the only flywheels on the market manufactured to a .001 machine tolerance, guaranteeing a flat seating surface for the clutch and smooth rotational qualities for perfect balance and extended engine life.

Thanks Spaz.

Little bit of buyers remorse on this setup. Feels like I'm either drag launching the car or I make it shake and chatter like a mother fucker. Still have not found the sweet spot to take off like a normal person.

Posted by: Spaz Oct 9 2012, 08:13 AM
Do you know what the psi rating on the pressure plate is? Mine's 2900 and has an awesome slipping point. Anything higher I'd feel like would be way too grabby.

Other thing too is that I've found it beneficial to try out clutches in similar cars before buying, some people just don't get along with some clutches.

Posted by: Lonely_Driver Oct 14 2012, 10:39 AM
I"m not sure of the holding power, I am getting used to it though.

Seems like I have to take off near 2000rpms, is this normal for a very grabby clutch and LW flywheel?

QUOTE (Lonely_Driver @ 8 hours, 28 minutes ago)

Yes. The clutch grabbiness and weight of the car/driveline will drag the motor down more quickly because it's a lot of rotating mass fighting relatively very little. I'm glad I kept my stock 14lb flywheel, anything lighter and it would be noticeably less bearable.

Hey sorry been a while since updates!

Just did a 700km drive to Revelstoke BC on the stage 1 map.

About 300km of the trip is going up a mountain and I averaged 7.5L/100km or about 33MPG for you 'Merican folks.

Overall I am very happy with the power delivery now but am still planning on new OEM injectors and TGV deletes. Possibly new plugs and other maintenance items in the spring.

I have some rust issues starting on the driver side 1/4 and above the windshield. Which I need to replace due to a huge crack from my trip here haha.

I need some 18x8 wheels and also Bilstein HD struts.

IDW help me pick out some rims!!

Especially on Subaru cars. Get that treated if you can, it seems like it's coming from the inside out, so start looking inside your trunk and fender liners.

Bought these:

I can drive like a boy racer but not be noticed because station wagon cool.gif

I have to make a decision, luckily one of my girl friends can sew and said she'll fix up my rear seats for the time being so that will be put on the back burner.

Priority for the wagon this year goes like this:

-Try to balance SpecB rims to see if bent or not and purchase tires
-Refinish my JDM SpecB struts, install new strut mounts, install, alighnment
-Fix rusty 1/4 panel

I am taking a pay cut starting next week, going to start as a VW mechanic so i'm not sure what all is going to happen this year but I will for sure have atleast one driving event with the new suspension.

I am still looking for SpecB centercaps but it looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and order some from the dealer, I dont even want to know how much it is going to cost.

I'm still very happy with the Bilsteins and hope I can source a JDM 20mm rear sway bar soon, install GroupN engine mounts and I feel as if the car will be "complete" or good enough for me as I've decided to put AutoX on hold this year again.

I was supposed to have my first Muay Thai fight June 15th but couple weeks ago I damaged a ligament in my groin and the feeling of missing this fight is killing me so I have decided to devote the rest of the year to my training and put the car on hold for a while.

Funny story, a buddy of mine had a red brake fluid in his car, and asked how much to bleed when he switched to Super Blue. I just told him to "bleed it past purple." Haha.

I have one of the GrimmSpeed braces on my list, too. They do some serious work in adding pedal stiffness.

This week has been cold and am having a fuel smell during start up.

I think I pinpointed the problem this morning and it seems to be underneath the IM where heat cycling will eventually loosen the hose clamps.

I have decided to remove the IM and replace all the clamps with new ones, while I'm under there I'll be doing TGV deletes, Parrallel fuel rail mod, ordered a AVO inlet and 4 new OEM injectors since I've been having a weird idle issue and all signs are pointing towards dirty injectors which seems to be a problem on 05 LGTs.

Yay for BECAUSE WAGON stuff!

I've never rallycrossed personally, but I've messed around on lakes before and it's a riot. Good times for sure.

Posted by: Lonely_Driver Mar 22 2014, 05:58 PM
Well I'm over 170,000KM now but the Wagon is still going strong! Took her for a good ride on the highway today, some Onramp blast, been running the Stage1 93Octane tune since I put in the new injectors and I'm loving it.

Been working lone hours lately cause I want to get a Stage2 setup going. Will need a new top mount, 3" downpipe, still debating on Catless or catted. And also a 3" Midpipe to mate up to the STi axlebacks.

And Most definetly going equal lenght header, but will need to make sure I order a proper skidplate before hand to protect them from water splashes.

EDIT: Just ordered some Suspension Goodies and exhaust gaskets instead, changed my mind so quickly awesome.gif

Posted by: chillined Mar 23 2014, 06:27 PM
Definitely go equal length headers. I don't miss the unequal rumble, or I should say the sound of inefficient exhaust pulses. Unfortunately, I can't give you a perspective of the difference in performance because I installed all my modifications at once. (I like to tell myself that I'm making more power because of it though tongue.gif)

I want too get them so bad but im going to hold off until I really need extra power. want to get my suspension dialed in first.

Good man, that's how it needs to be done. I did power first on my last Evo and it was fun but not very practical and wouldn't stay down in the corners. Just coilovers and good pads will go a long way in a supporting setup.

Thats exactly what I'm thinking.

Just ordered LED conversion bulbs for every interior light, flashers, reverse lights, license plate lights etc...

Have I gone crazy? Whats next? Body kit? w00t2.gif

All I got for right now, Cutoff looks decent with the squirell finders filled, try to grab a pic tonight.

Unfortunetly could not get the LED flashers working as I need a CK style 3157 otherwise it blows the park light fuse.

Got some more work done yesterday, have to say doing suspension work is the least favorite thing to do on my car since its spent most of its life in Ontario. Also picked up that new Low profile Michelin jack from CT while it was on sale.

A note for the front end links, only needed to use one spacer on the top to make the end link straight while the car is sitting on the wheels.

Forgot to take pics of my BaysonR front lip, going to need a bit more tweaking, I imagine a heat gun and double sided tape will do the trick.

Good things are coming, I promise.

Edit: Just got a call from my friends shop that was installing a few parts for me. Fuck this car.

Edit 2: Car went in to get the upgraded oil pickup and windage tray along with Group N engine mounts installed. Found that water pump was leaking, cam seals were leaking onto the timing belt and rear main was leaking as well. Thankfully they are cutting me a break on labour costs.

Having some weird drivability issues lately, not feeling like boost has been coming on hard or sometimes late.

Got the dreaded PO0011 Code which has to do with the AVCS and most likely leading up to an imminent turbo failure.

Renting a garage and the wagon will be going into storage until the spring when I'll have enough money to fix it.

Luckily Its only a 40min walk to work so I'll be ok.

I'll keep updating as I remove the turbo and send it out for rebuild, Going to be replacing all oil feed lines for the turbo and valve timing just incase they have some metal shavings in them.

Hoping I'll have enough money saved up to prep the car for paint and also need to get the civic racecar ready for next season.

Posted by: Spaz Jul 25 2015, 11:36 AM
Now, I'm not super familiar with the AVCS system in the EJs...

It's oil pressure based, correct? If you're getting codes for it, would it be due to shavings in the case of a turbo failure? If memory serves there's a filter, so is the code related to a clogged filter? I'm just curious if there's something to be worried about as far as the AVCS gears themselves.

Posted by: Lonely_Driver Jul 25 2015, 12:06 PM
you are correct, there are 2 filters, one for each head.

I removed the filter years ago on the passenger side as it is known to cause turbo failiure, this filter is also in the same oil feed for that AVCS gear, which is the same side I'm getting codes for.

I could just change the oil, swap the AVCS control valves and see if I would be getting codes for the drivers side now but when I did the downpipe swap last year I checked the shaft play on the turbo and it was nearing time for replacement.

Since I have a garage I can rent and am able to walk to work I'll just do it for now. Also for my financial situation this makes the most sense to be able to pay off debt.

Buying a bicycle is actually more cost effective than buying a bus pass every month.

EDIT: Also our shitty Canadian dollar isn't helping the situation anyways, been wanting to order a couple parts for a few months now but have been holding off, so whenever we get closer to par I'll start ordering what I need.

SECOND EDIT: Sorry Spaz forgot to answer your question about the gears, I havent seen any AVCS Gear failures, its usually the OCV's or Oil Control Valves, which I will be replacing.

answer was always no of course I just told them exhaust and intake make the difference.

Thanks, love the sound.

Although road trips I hate how loud it is tongue.gif

Still throwing around ideas on what I should do. It will be about $550USD to send my turbo out for rebuild which I think is very reasonable.

At the same time the car is down I can do all my maintenance stuff, might throw on a front sway bar, take the midpipe to a muffler shop and have a huge resonator welded in.

So many ideas but I think I am going to keep this as a daily driver, really want another NA subaru to rallycross with as the Civic is a joint Autocross project.

My friend said the answer to all my problems is to find a wealthy cougar to fund my addiction awesome.gif

Welp, its pretty much official, I'm selling.

If I can get over $12,000 for it, it will be sold as is, If not I will be put up on jack stands and put back to stock.

Have another project in mind. Will stand out to enthusiasts but will blend in to the public/police's eyes and also be reliable as can be as some Australians have proved.

Ok since I was working really hard today and decided to calculate the cost of actually buying a 2010-2011 Outback 3.6r and converting it into a legacy that would not even be as good as mine I have decided against it.

Plan is still to store it and keep on walking to work. Which isnt too bad considering it is summer.

Posted by: Lonely_Driver Aug 2 2015, 09:09 AM
Haha yes I'll need to invest in some better shoes! In the Winter I'll be using Uber to get back and forth to my gym.

In a perfect world I would love to pull the engine and do a mild rebuild. Stock rebuild on the heads and replace all bearings in the shortblock, keep the stock rods and crank with forged pistons since that is one of the subaru weak points.

Maybe a STi spec C twin scroll conversion with a o2 dump like the Evo guys.

Posted by: Plentymoon Aug 2 2015, 01:50 PM
Let me put it to you this way Your subie is so nice I planned on getting an rx8 but now I'm going to get another 2000 Subaru outback legacy limited because I miss that boxer rumble so much. But I'm not sure if I should get the H4 or the H6. I would love to rebuild an H6 for boost those come with quite the power stock think how good it would be with low boost right?

Other then that I need to start walking to work again I'm gaining so much weight my SAAB is crying for me to get out of it. XD

According to AM Auto in Australia they have turbocharged plenty of EZ30's without any problems.

Biggest issue is that you're stuck with an Auto here in North America if that's not what you want.

I agree with you however I read on the subie forums that I can put in a 5 speed manual and it would work but I will have to look into it some more.

but from what I know the H6 engines are pretty strong and I think if I run low boost even the auto tranny should hold up so long as I don't over do it with power.

but only time will tell its been awhile since I've been in a subie so I need to brush up on the boxer engine again and see what I can do to improve stock performance overall and from there if I get my hands on another I will tear it down and see if I can get some turbo pistons in it and go from there.

Shame you're not in Canada you could import a legacy with a 3.0 and manual Trans.

I highly suggest you look into getting a 2005 outback 3.0 instead of the 2000.

The BE/BH chassis you're looking at is very different from any other subaru model and not much of anything is interchangeable and aftermarket is slim to none.

I will look into them but I'm still a baller on a budget for cars so it will depend if I can't find one thats within a certain price range I will get one that's from 2002 and just deal with it.

basically I have the rest of this year to get a car before my wife buys another house and my money is all tied up in those bills again.

trust me if I'm not satisfied with what I find at some local and non local dealers I will just have to keep saving and buy another sports car even though I want something comfy for me and the wife to take out of town and I can still take it out on the dirt and a good time in the mountains looking for a camping spot.

I wouldn't be opposed to buying a high mileage h6 motor either. From the research I've done I've only come across 1 timing chain failiure.

The 5eat transmission handles the 245hp just fine as well.

For my car I'm looking into the EJ20X motor

No I did not, I tried to modify the shields and use a bulb that is the same length as the factory H7 Halogen but its still not perfect.

What I dont understand is how there is no noticeable light above the cutoff line yet I KNOW there is because I can see the reflection off of higher road signs.

So Unfortunetly I will be going back to halogens unless I plan on dishing out for some retrofits or JDM headlamps.

Ah.

Good on you for going back, it can be a pain trying to get the right focal length without the specific projectors.

Have you looked into morimoto retrofits? Seem to be fairly cost competitive.

I dont know a lot about the reliability of the JDM cars.

I do know the engine internals are better (hypereutectic cast pistons and rods vs our just regular cast ones)

2.0L vs 2.5L

Open deck vs Semi closed deck

I would think the JDM would be better for longevity, the open deck would mean that I would be wary of pushing a lot of boost through it though.

Havent come across of too many spun bearings on them, I joined a Aussie Liberty forum to see what people have done to them and am happy to see plenty of higher mileage ones.

Mobius:

Ahh yes completely forgot to look into those, thanks!

Besides that everything is running fine, I bought a Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonator and will be welding that on ASAP.

Now as the body goes, I'm getting that JDM quarter rust again. I plan on keeping this car for as long as I can so I will be fixing it.

Now do I go wide body? or Flares? I'm sure with my skillz I can easily make some sort of rocket bunny flares work or an easier alternative is Ebay 240sx fender flares.

Thats the cheap part. Its getting a proper wheel and tire combo thats going to be the exspensive part.

Proper wheels and tires to fit wider fenders are always rough on the bank account. It'll look sick with flares though!

You have 9" wheels with 245's right? How is the stretch?

EDIT: Just priced out 17x9 RPF1's and 245/40 Michelin supersports $2500 CAD

Could get a short block for that much.

Not much of a stretch at all. Perfectly usable and the extra sidewall stiffness is great for feel and response. I'll be running 255s on up from here out though. Gotta take advantage of what I've got.

I'm just glad I didn't buy my Volks new at $4100 + tires. pinch2.gif

If I could find rims that looked like my SpecB ones. I would be all over it.

NEW YEARS UPDATE!!

Nothing really important, Fuel smell on really cold mornings, please dont be a hose clamp that I cannot reach sad.gif

Coolant leak somewhere, just too lazy to pinpoint it. Will wait at next oil change.

Drove the piss out of it couple days ago, was only -2 out, tires looked deflated but who cares its their final season.

Very much happy with the overall reliability and fun I have on the daily with this car. Only mod I forsee is seats because my drivers one is killing my back after only a 20min drive.

Now I wait for my friend to get back from Vacation so we can install the new calipers on the Civic

I do.

I think I'm one of the few lucky people that gets to enjoy their daily commutes. Every once in a while I get a thumbs up from someone that knows exactly what the car is and it makes my day.

Alright guys, purchased the h7 LED kit from Superbrightleds.com because a ballast failed on my Diode Dynamics HID kit (4300K)

Installed my passenger side one because it was the side that failed, pretty easy when you have a SRI, gives a lot of added room.

Now the questions I have is will the driver inside the dustcap be OK? I was reading that they can get hot but with the length of the wires it is impossible to feed it out the hole I had already drilled for the HID kit. Not to mention that hole is being used for the new braided heat sinks.

Other question is how can I get a tight seal with the heat sinks outside the hole? I'm thinking just some ghetto electrical tape will do.

I'll install the drivers side Saturday at work and try to go someplace dark to test how far the distance is on these.

Onto the pictures:

This is the coolant leak I had, replaced the hose clamp and hoping thats the end of that, dipstick tube was leaking as well so I replaced the O-rings, again...

Alright guys, I need to sell this thing to pay off debt, plan to walk for about a year. Also going to need a tow rig for the civic and eventually plan to buy a shifter kart.

I want this:

And turn it into this:

This is always a posibility down the road too:

A tow rig should generally be reliable, and reliable is stock. As much as you want to make it your own, your best bet will be to leave it in relatively original form.

Haven't been driving the wagon much these days but I took for a good boot last week and remembered why I love it so much and it still runs great even though I'm nearing 200,000km

It was my b day last Friday so I ended up buying myself some flares. Considering I have quarter rust starting might as well go wide! I want to run 245 tires all around.

I really like the look of my stock SpecB wheels but +55 and 7" wide won't cut it. Going to need something 8.5-9" wide and +35

So far the only similar wheel I can find is OZ Superturismo but if anyone else has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.
