Rather than simply post this guy's reviews in video threads, this deserves a topic of its own.
Check out the rest of his videos for more riotously hilarious stuff. |

What kind of insanity is this!? [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |
Posted by: TranceKitsune Oct 15 2013, 11:52 AM |
It's all about the Toyota Tacoma video. That's my favorite one and he said that he is planning on returning to that type of humor. The S2000 one was pretty good but it still felt off balance humor wise. Can't wait to see him go ape shit again haha. "You put your golf bags in the back, go for a round of 18 HOLES, 18 POLES, EIGHT-TEEN GOALS~" "HEY, IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T BRURRRNURGN-MARSHALL TUCKER BRAND!" |
Posted by: Fast Oct 22 2013, 10:38 PM
That vid had me in splits. Here's another good one.
|

The latest one (Saturn L-Series) was a little disappointing. It lacked the absurdist humor of his other videos, and leads me to think that this channel is suffering from a premature case of YouTube Celebrity Disorder, à la Regular Ordinary Swedish Meal Time or HowToBasic. |
Posted by: TranceKitsune Oct 23 2013, 11:43 AM
I like to think that perhaps he is now on meds for his insanity and it is calming him down. We need to convince him to toss the meds so we can get some crazy videos again. TRACK DAY BRO. YO, TRACK DAY BRO. BRO. GOING TO TRACK DAY? LETS GO TO THE TRACK DAY BRO. FIVE SETS OF TIRES BRO. YOKOHAMA BRO, SUMITOMO, NITTO, HOOSIER BRO, HOOSIERS, GOT SOME HOOSIERS FOR THE TRACK DAY BRO. |

Well, I finally watched it. I don't think I'm getting any sleep tonight. |

So, hopefully most of you know who Mr. Regular is. If not, I kindly invite you to swing over to his channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo1pShh6dtg-T_ZZkgi_JDQ I've been following his videos since maybe February and I must say, although his content shifts around quite a bit, the vulgarity - without profanity for the most part - and comedic stuff he throws out there is second to none. It is definitely one of the most unique, if not THE most unique car channel on Youtube and for those who don't keep up on their subscriptions, I plan on updating this thread whenever a new release comes out. This week's star car is a 2004 Honda Civic Si, and in odd manner, he's split his review into two. The vanilla review:

This Week's Review - 2014 Ford Focus ST
YES! The hot hatch is still alive! I haven't sampled the ST yet, but having about 1,000 miles logged in a 2014 Fiesta SE, I can attest to the sheer pocket-rocket joy you feel in the car's chassis. The fact that Ford can pull this off without independent rear suspension and still feel this compliant and lively behind the wheel is a true feat of Ford engineering. Just imagine if Ford did utilize a double-wishbone rear setup. Who knows, maybe in 6 years I'll scope one of these out. You know, when the bulk of depreciation has been taken care of for me. |
Posted by: RalliKai Jan 2 2015, 07:10 AM |
Weighing only 2500lb doesn't hurt it either, especially compared to the heftier Focus. |
Posted by: GoP-Demon Jan 2 2015, 07:47 AM |
I found curb weight to be 2,720 lbs. Not too surprising with the torque it usually beats FRS on the track. |
Posted by: RalliKai Jan 2 2015, 10:57 AM
I was referring to the normal Fiesta. It would have been nice though if we had been offered the 2-door Fiesta ST instead of strictly getting the heavier 4-door. The Fiesta looks like a fun little pocket rocket. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Jan 2 2015, 12:03 PM |
Got a Fiesta as a rental once. Quite liked it, especially that its USB port recognized my iPhone without issue and just worked as I expected. I had originally plugged it in just to charge it only for the system to sync instead. Had no trouble navigating California freeways. No complaints. |
Posted by: GoP-Demon Jan 2 2015, 09:11 PM |
hmm I guess 2500 is considered pretty light now. 8th gen corollas were 2500 lbs as well with more power than the base fiesta. Early toyota echos seem insane now with curb weights at around 2000lbs and no power steering. |
Posted by: RalliKai Jan 3 2015, 07:10 AM
Speaking of the Echo.
|
Posted by: Rudy Jan 3 2015, 06:46 PM
Uhm, what? Power steering was standard on the Echo from day ONE. That said - my 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage weighs in at a paltry 1,920 lbs. Suck it, JDM fanboys! |
Posted by: GoP-Demon Jan 3 2015, 07:35 PM |
Maybe it was a Canadian thing. The base had power steering as an option. USA also didn't get the hatchback. http://driving.ca/toyota/echo/reviews/road-test/road-test-2005-toyota-echo-2 "However, it did not have power steering, power windows, power locks or power anything" maybe it was related to the echo cup races as well. Actually... in the spirit of the echo cup, I guess we now have the Spec Micra races this year. |

This week's review: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8
As sloppy and overweight as this beast is, I still want one. And Regular nailed it and what it personifies. |

I just hung out with Mr. Regular and The Roman today. It was awesome. |
Posted by: Seri Jan 29 2015, 05:10 PM |
All I know is that he has a beard, from that one review where he goes off road. |
Posted by: Falbere Jan 29 2015, 05:24 PM
Did you let him review your car? |
Posted by: Rudy Jan 29 2015, 05:36 PM |
He did a POV drive of my friend's Ford Thunderbird. I don't know if he'll upload it or not. He forgot his GoPro, so I recorded video on a device he had. To be honest I gained more from getting to know him and The Roman, I think, than just handing him my keys and letting him do his thing. Oh, he also autographed my friend's copy of Lotus Turbo Challenge for the Sega Genesis. He said to Regular, "Behold! A Lotus that works every time you turn it on" |

>bother to review a '92 >don't review an LS-L EDIT: Oh god that thing is trashed, ugh. Even mine was in better shape and it'd been through a wreck. The only thing this one has going for it is the trunklid lines up a little better than mine did. Ugh. UGH. UGH!! EDIT 2: He says this one is an LS-L...I guess the decklid spoiler was optional even though the LS-L was supposed to be the top-of-the-line-has-everything model...? EDIT 3: "North America never got manual versions of this car." No, no market ever got manual versions of this car. The current theory as to why is because Subaru knew that the EG33 was prone to overheating at high RPMs but didn't know why, so their solution was to use an automatic transmission to make sure that the car spent the majority of its life at lower engine speeds. Not to mention it made the car seem more like a luxury vehicle if it came standard with an automatic. EDIT 4: "It wasn't the strongest Subaru made..." Not false, but the whole 'SVX transmissions are glass/terrible' is a myth perpetuated by people who don't know any better. You know, like the guy who said that NA never got manuals. EDIT 5: EDIT 6: His brake reservoir cap is popped, he needs to uncap it, pop the rubber back in and cap it back on again. That'll get rid of that red light on the dash when he's driving around. |

Do you expect Regular to know all these? O.o |
Posted by: kyonpalm Feb 10 2015, 06:17 AM
|
Posted by: Nomake Wan Feb 10 2015, 09:04 AM
No, I expect the owner to know all of those--as he was the source of information for Regular. |
Posted by: Sensation! Feb 10 2015, 09:23 AM
Not really. Though its likely that the owner-base of a said car will stumble upon his videos about the said car and if his research (or lack of it) just isn't up to snuff to what that owner-base expects, then all i've got to say... or sing for that that matter is:

Posted by: Rudy Feb 10 2015, 05:51 PM |
I forgot what caused the overheating issue with the SVX again. Was it the thermostat being too hot? |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Feb 10 2015, 07:03 PM
Incorrect hose connection sizes in the cooling loop. It appears Subaru added two cylinders to the EJ22 and figured that they didn't need to change any peripherals. Had a fluid dynamics engineer been on staff they would've realized that you can't do that because you've changed the entire system's volume and thus flow. It's also why the rear two cylinders will get oil-starved while racing. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |

This week's review is a 2000 Celica GT-S.
Honestly, I always looked at the Celica as just another FF, and I'm glad to see I was wrong. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Feb 16 2015, 09:23 AM
To this day I feel bad about spinning ToyotaFan's GT-S on the touge. The car was undamaged and we were unhurt but I still can't shake the feeling that his disappearing from the forum was entirely my fault. So yes, they can be quite tail-happy if you're not ready for it. Difference being that you can't use the throttle like you would on a RWD/AWD to fix it. |
Posted by: Spaz Feb 17 2015, 09:45 AM |
Obviously depends on chassis, but with the VW being the only FWD car I've ever owned, I'll say that you can definitely correct oversteer with throttle. You move the weight around and change where the traction is, and basically fix it with understeer. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Feb 17 2015, 10:56 AM
It's not that you can't correct it with throttle, it's that you can't correct it with throttle like on a RWD or AWD vehicle. The actual process of correcting oversteer is different. If you try to correct like a RWD you will likely end up inducing snap oversteer in the opposite direction of the original skid. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |

I remember almost spinning out on the exact corner you spun your legacy on, with MY legacy. I went WOT and steered in the direction I wanted to go and the car pulled itself together. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |

Surprise! I guess?
|
Posted by: Spaz Feb 18 2015, 09:41 AM
I know if I try to further delve into the dynamics here I'll either sound like a massive idiot, make zero sense, or more likely, a combination of the two. But I know what you're saying and agree with it to enough of a point. |

An interesting diversion from his normal stuff. Loved the Bebop line at the end. |

"UUUGGGGHHH! WEEABOO!" Lol. Well, the owner did actually go for the Tofu Shop look, so I cannot say anything. |

This car is confused. It has the Project D hood but the original 4 valve engine. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Feb 23 2015, 09:52 AM
It's not confused, the owner is just one of many who don't have the dosh or reason to swap in a mystical magic engine. Kinda like people who paint their 240Z midnight blue but don't swap in a carbeurated turbo. |
Posted by: Rudy Feb 23 2015, 09:54 AM |
Doesn't have to be the Toyota Atlantic engine, even a regular 5 valve engine like in sideways' would be deemed acceptable. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Feb 23 2015, 10:51 AM |
Just finished watching both parts. Part 2 had me giggling a little because I've been there. The first RWD vehicle I ever drove was Sideways's Corolla and yeah... that was me. Giggling like a schoolgirl as the car went sideways around corners with its exhaust manifold roaring like an angry beast that wanted desperately to be more powerful than it actually was. God that was fun. It's still a shitty econobox with stupidly inflated asking price, but it's fun. |

Engine swaps are a nuisance in general. |
Posted by: Rudy Feb 23 2015, 08:41 PM
You're talking about changing out an engine for... essentially the same exact engine. This isn't an SR20 swap we're talking about here. |
Posted by: Seri Feb 23 2015, 09:02 PM |
From what I understand, you just have to change the head and some wiring, right? I could be forgetting something, though. |
Posted by: Rudy Feb 23 2015, 09:32 PM |
You need to plumb some custom cooling lines because the 5V is a FWD engine, install the accessory brackets and rearrange the AE111 accessories to their AE86 positions, swap the ECU and I think the wiring. Sideways you've done this so chime in if I'm missing anything. |
Posted by: Tessou Feb 24 2015, 02:57 AM
Find somebody with an old MR2 and try not to grin in the corners. The back end is cartoonishly fun to flick around corners with zero effort and total control. God damn I loved that car. The engine is dreadfully underpowered but it will use every bit of that 116 to convince you that it's bigger and badder than it really is. Best part is that the price did not inflate like the AE86, so you can get them dirt cheap. |
Posted by: Falbere Feb 24 2015, 03:55 AM
And, if I remembered correctly, they used the same engine as the AE86. Didn't Regular reviewed an AW11 before? EDIT: Here it is, not really interesting though.

Have to admit, feeling alittle deprived having never driven a lightweight RWD car yet after reading through this thread. |
Posted by: Rudy Feb 24 2015, 08:29 AM |
Go test drive an 86 twin! But be ready for disappointment below 4,500 rpm. The car is still fun and the 6 speed is still slick though. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |

I drove a 280Z once. It was fun. Dunno if that counts, though. |
Posted by: RalliKai Feb 24 2015, 01:42 PM |
An NB Miata is something I'm keeping in mind if I go for a dedicated track/AutoX car at some point. My dad still has his 240Z he's aiming to restore someday. Something I doubt I'll ever get the chance to actually drive. |
Posted by: Kiroshino Feb 27 2015, 09:33 PM |
A member here once recommended that I get a fox body Mustang as my first project car. I ended up going with an AW11 MR2, but every now and then, I get envious of the Mustang's aftermarket and support. Definitely something for me to consider for my next project... whenever that is. On topic, coincidentally, I was catching up on RCR's videos today. Although I'm not a huge fan of his forced sense of humor (my opinion), it's definitely refreshing to see light-hearted reviews that are entertaining and provide a perspective outside of the numbers. His technical errors aside, he's been pretty spot on with the cars I've driven. |
Posted by: Spaz Feb 28 2015, 08:10 AM |
Buy Foxbody, swap LS, profit. No question marks here. |
Posted by: Rudy Feb 28 2015, 09:38 AM |
Screw that, swap Coyote or Termi. Don't ruin a Chevy engine by putting it in a Ford body. >_< [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |
Posted by: Kiroshino Feb 28 2015, 09:36 PM |
Prices on early C4 Corvettes have come down. Don't know too much about them, but I'd think that comparing them year-to-year with the Mustang, the Corvette would provide a better base. |
Posted by: Rudy Feb 28 2015, 10:14 PM |
Stay away from '84's, that's my only advice. |
Posted by: Kiroshino Feb 28 2015, 10:51 PM |
First model year issues, I'm guessing? |
Posted by: Rudy Mar 1 2015, 01:54 PM |
Lots of teething issues, and that putrid cross fire injection. '85 has much less troublesome multi port injection, gets better mileage. Another problem with the early C4's is the cumbersome 4+3 speed transmission. I forget which year they switched to the borg-warner T-56 but from that year forward is where you should look. This week's review: 2015 Subaru Impreza WRX
Desperately needs UEL header. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |
Posted by: Kiroshino Mar 15 2015, 11:08 AM |
That was... kind of sad. I haven't taken too close of a looking at the '15 WRX, but from what I understand, it's more refined than the previous ones. I guess refinement took away some of its character. On the plus side, since it's looks are definitely muted, it shouldn't attract as much attention from the popo. |
Posted by: RalliKai Mar 16 2015, 03:47 PM |
I kind of agree with him. It's interesting how much the WRX/STi changed over the years. The current design lacks the character of the GC and GD line but I'll still take it over the 3rd generation Impreza. Character aside, even back when I was in college, I still thought the STi looked almost comical with the obnoxiously large hoodscoop and pink STi lettering in the front. I preferred the more "get down to business" look of the Evo 8/9 at the time. |
Posted by: RedsunsF1 Mar 17 2015, 01:03 AM |
Drove the 15' wrx and I fell in love with it, it's a great DD vehicle and if you just want to do some light track, it would handle it perfect. They have stepped up their game with the interior, love Carbon fiber and black leather They used on the one I saw. |

One thing you need to know about this car. It is not Matt Farah's Million Mile Lexus. |

I almost bought one but was being impatient the look didn't really grow on me so ended up with '13 WRX instead. Love the car though. I've never really owned a fun car until last year and it's been looking forward to driving it every chance I get. All stock except the muffler delete. A little shoot I did last summer. One of his better videos I thought. Props on the swag ending drive. 1994 also saw the release of Final Fantasy VI to add to that list. |

The price of NSX'es in the US is going to plummet once people start bringing them over from Japan for half the price. I want one but they're still way too much money because supposedly Honda is inflating the prices by buying them up when they're under a certain price. |

Posted by: Kiroshino May 5 2015, 07:04 AM |
I haven't heard that, though I've heard that the prices have recently gone up after the debut of the new NSX probably due to renewed interest or speculation. I haven't seen the prices go up around me. The earlier models have stayed around $30-$40k, or $50k+ at stealerships the past few years. |

You mean Road and Track Presents: The Need for Speed . Awwwwww yeah. Jeff Gordon also won his first races and Rookie of the Year in '94. And NBA Jam was released for the Sega Genesis. What a year indeed. |

There always has to be bad with the good, and with each end comes a new beginning. Michael Schumacher, arguably the greatest driver in Formula 1 history, got his first championship that year as well. Just like Jeff winning his final championship in the wake of Big E's passing. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |

More from the NSX.
|
Posted by: GoP-Demon May 6 2015, 04:02 AM |
Compared to last year prices are up and the number for sale are much lower where I am from. I have yet to hear of an imported NSX in Canada. |
Posted by: Banken May 6 2015, 03:35 PM
Only a rumor, hence why I said supposedly. FWIW, at the current exchange rate you can buy a first-gen automatic NSX for about $15,000. A manual will cost you about $25,000... |
Posted by: Möbius May 7 2015, 02:27 PM |
This Youtube channel is one of my all time faves... As for imported NSX's, why bother getting an auto? |
Posted by: Rudy May 7 2015, 03:01 PM |
Same reason celebs spent tens of thousands to convert their Lambos to automatic a decade or so ago, cause people in America don't know how to drive and buy a fancy sports car as a status symbol. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |

>Riven >ALL FIVE DISCS OF IT Oh god damn the memories. Hnnnng. HNNNNNG. Clearly '97 was the peak of my childhood because everything in that list was just YES I REMEMBER THAT HOLY CRAP IT WAS FUN. Never drove an Outback, did drive an Impreza wagon once. In the snow. On a back road. Was pretty freaking fun actually. It almost became my next car until the SVX came into my life. EDIT: I won't forgive him for the sink thing though. That's just not cool. |
Posted by: RalliKai May 21 2015, 07:44 AM |
Still have my copy of Riven somewhere. I never drove the old Outback either. Closest I came was when I test drove a 2.5RS Impreza of the same generation. Edit: Loved the TI-85 and Tetris comment. Had a tone of games on my TI-83+, until a friend got a hold of it and deleted them all. |

I want one, but like Rudy mentioned in another thread, a decent one is hard to find in our area for cheap. You usually get them as rollers. Now that he's done a CRX, hope he does a Del Sol. |

Posted by: Kiroshino Jun 8 2015, 07:11 AM |
I think it's unreasonable to expect stock 20+ year-old economy cars to be fast in today's standards. Economy cars aren't meant to be fast in the first place, the performance-oriented ones aside. |
Posted by: Seri Jun 8 2015, 07:23 AM |
You can say an FD is 20+ years old now, and it could hold it's own. Same with older GT-Rs. |
Posted by: Kiroshino Jun 8 2015, 07:27 AM |
I wouldn't consider either of those "economy" cars. Not in the same class as Honda's like the Civic, CRX, and Del Sol. |

Thought the location looked familiar. Veteran's Memorial Park in Parsippany, NJ. I work ten minutes away from there. There's always a used R8 for sale at my local Audi dealership. Very distinctive car. Never liked its looks, but there's no denying that it projects an aura of affluence. |

I've only seen maybe 2 on the road and one sitting in an Audi dealership show floor. I've always liked the subdued styling of the R8. One of those "I'd buy it cars." if I hit the lottery. |

Posted by: xiao Sep 7 2015, 10:11 PM
Sir, I need to requisition your vehicle in my parking lot to match these 5 dollar https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5809/21226345802_7d029afecb_k.jpg I bought with tax payer money while on duty from Walmart. Thank you. |
Posted by: Rudy Sep 8 2015, 04:12 PM
Oh, the status and authority of even the regular Crown Victoria silhouette is insurmountable; ever since I got SERAS, everyone, I mean everyone in New Jersey has become slower drivers, at least in front of me. I used to want a Taurus really badly but now that they're becoming widely adopted the image of the Taurus is starting to catch on - driving anything associated with cops ultimately slows me down. It's ridiculous what you can get away with in this car. One time I had a State Trooper in a marked Crown Victoria openly invite me to play cat and mouse with him on the Turnpike from Exit 7A to Exit 5 in mid-day traffic. And after about 20 miles of really putting her brakes and cooling system to the test, he pulled beside me and gave me a wide-grinned thumbs up as I took the exit. My front windows are pretty dark and I never get a second look at my illegal tint. Cops really do think you're one of them. |

Errors: Rear diff is 1-way, not 1.5-way. Final drive is 4.538, not 4.583. I would however rather the latter. You can beat on an Evo IX within reason. Just don't do it every day. And yes, the rear diff clunk is 100% normal. You either deal with the clunk, or you do the bushings and have to listen to the unearthly whine of the gear mesh FOREVER. |

Posted by: Nomake Wan Oct 27 2015, 12:02 AM |
My mom rented a Cavalier once. She then sent me--who was not only underage for driving a rental car but was also on a provisional out-of-state license--on a food run. I proceeded to get T-boned by another car while moving into the left turn lane due largely to the car's ridiculous blind spot. Thankfully the person who T-boned me was the only human being in the city who wanted a police report less than I did. No insurance, no license, no residency and oh, not his car. Thankfully this meant I didn't get my license suspended, and thanks to our rental insurance we got a super sweet Hyundai out of it. ...which my mom didn't let me drive. |

Did they lose the AutoCAD prints?? xD I don't even know who likes new cars better than classics... 3rd graders? NBA players? James Bond movie producers? xP Everyone's got internet now, people can just google up a quick comparison between vehicles of different decades, and see the minimalistic raw power of years gone by~ as oposed to the over-engineered boats that chugg-along today's streets... I'd buy a renovated Nissan Z over a FR-S/BRZ/Camaro/Mustang for 30k any second of the week!! @ 6th: Only if you put on the Undertale soundtrack while we drift into a skeleton cave! |
Posted by: Sensation! Feb 21 2016, 09:58 PM
It's mostly safety. It's why all cars are similar these days. You wont believe the leaps in bounds in chassis development when it comes to safety made even within the past 10 years. That said, as fat and porky as sports cars are now, they're much faster than they ever were. Even the new M3 is now a 500whp car with just a piggyback exhaust. Don't let the (relative) mediocrity of the FRS/BRZ color your perception of the modern sports car, that car was doomed due to the development hell it had to go through. Almost every modern sports car brand has seen a renaissance the past 3 years, and I'd dare say were entering an age where sports cars are about to get very, VERY, good again. The heavy focus on safety and economy that overhung car companies during the mid 2000's has finally bore fruit; marketing exciting, individual, and fast cars is quickly becoming the fad again. The fact that BMW has the guts to bring in the M2 says it all, 30-40k sports cars are hot right now. |

I'm going to be honest, I can't tell the difference between 30 and 60. |
Posted by: xiao Feb 23 2016, 05:50 AM
Really? To my eyes, it's as clear as night and day. 60fps video is more crisp, clear, fluid, and sharp than 30fps. Like if I'm watching a scene live, as opposed to motion that's more cartoony and artificial. ie. 60fps+ looks more to me like it's in person; 30fps- is more synthetic and less authentic from an optical perspective. I mean, I completely understand... I can't tell the difference between 320kbps mp3 audio and 'as source' flac songs. But my eyes are more keen on detail than my ears I suppose. Have you seen this: (watch it on YouTube at 1080p60 - the embedded player doesn't have 60fps)

Having had experience in one like 99% of the rest of the world, yes, he nailed it. Worth noting, by the way, how near-bulletproof the engine is. The one I drove had, in another's hands, run low on oil to the point of the warning light coming on... and was left running like that for a few miles before the issue was "addressed". Apparently rather than change the oil, they just topped it off and planned to actually change it in the near future. Skip forward to it being in my hands, and, under the assumption it's been taken care of, I'd driven it for probably another 1,000 miles before the rattle of death appeared and I knew it was shot. |

You never watched Top Gear? Rutledge Wood used one in the $500 challenge.... smoked the clutch to bits at the very end. It was hilarious. Though not as hilarious as Adam Ferrara's yellow Crown Victoria, which a random guy climbed into the back of his car and asked him to drive to X location, thinking it was a taxi. |

Fixed it for you Okay, I'll stop trolling now. On the real though, that Festiva is a 1,700 lb. box of lulz. I also like the artillery shell gear shifter. Though I wonder how much water that thing spits out after a heavy rain with the muffler angled up like that. |
Posted by: RalliKai Aug 11 2016, 12:30 PM
Not quite an artillery shell. More like 30mm shell casing from an A-10. |

Oh wow, this has to be the best review I've seen yet. My sides. And yes, the Z32 is an -amazing- car to sit in. Dare I say, Nomake, superior to even the Alcyone SVX? Everything is just so -right-. It really is the Japston Nippontin of GT cars. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Aug 15 2016, 08:53 AM
I haven't spent any seat time in a Z32, so you'd want to ask Sideways since he's the only guy I know who's done so if you want a second opinion. Both are heavy grand-touring cars, though, and they're definitely in the same market. However, it's really too bad he didn't review the twin-turbo version since that's really where the fun is for that particular vehicle. Pretty sure an SVX will walk over an NA, but the turbo version is just too ridiculous to compete. ...Well, no, I take that back. A stock SVX will walk all over an NA 300ZX until you've spent a few minutes over 4000 RPMs, and then it'll start overheating and lose. |
Posted by: Master0fMadness Aug 15 2016, 10:34 AM |
Gotta slam the shifter and go, "That's it, get into 2nd." |
Posted by: RalliKai Aug 15 2016, 10:49 AM |
Preferred the Z31 over the 32 overall. Out of all the 90s Japanese GT cars that graced the States, I'd rank the Z32 my second favorite, behind the Supra. |
Posted by: Master0fMadness Aug 23 2016, 09:49 PM
Oh man, this thing is cool. It reminds me of a UNIMOG for some reason, but doesn't likely cost a small fortune to at least buy. 10/10 this was better than the Piper review. |
Posted by: RalliKai Aug 26 2016, 06:51 AM
Regardless of what can be said about the Cavalier/Sunfire, the Grand Am was the poster child of GM garbage in the 90s and 2000s in my view.

I dunno about that... check this clip out from about 2:45 onward
Even factoring in a 30% FWD bias, that still doesn't look like just the work of the powertrain. I do believe the ASM is using torque vectoring to hold the angle of the slide. But I will agree that anyone who tries hooning it on the streets thinking it'll turn them into Vaughn Gittin deserves what's coming to them. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |

"Because if you get caught violating laws in a Ford Falcon, the officer will probably let you off with a warning. And not a fake, 'I'm lettin' you off but not really' warning, I'm talking a real honest-to-god, 'Get outta here you scamp!' warning! And why wouldn't he!? I mean, I get thumbs-up from officers all the time in this!" -RCR This is absolute truth. I used to call this the "Classic Car Cloaking Device" back when I drove the Maverick. Within ten minutes of having bought that car, I hopped on the freeway and floored it. The wheezy 6-cylinder tried its best and got me up to speed, and by the time I hit the road I was just barely over the posted limit. That instant, CHP appears outta nowhere, pulls behind me, and I'm just wanting to slam my face into the steering wheel because getting a less-than-10-over ticket within 10 minutes of buying the car would be supremely retarded luck. Then he pulls past me, drops a thumbs-up, and pulls over an Audi just ahead of me. Out of everything, that's probably what I loved the most about the Maverick. The thing was a tank, it had been abused, it continued to run when any of my other cars would've left me stranded...but it was never having to worry about police encounters that I probably loved most. I just never even bothered looking, because it would never, ever be a problem. |

Not a caaar.
Still, love the R6 and motorbikes in general. Also on the topic of driving classic's. I had the opportunity to drive my grandfather's 1972 Benz 300SEL after a wedding once. The feeling I got from it was the closest I'd ever felt to driving a tank. |
Posted by: xiao Sep 28 2016, 03:09 PM
I drove a newer & similar Benz my old bud had ... and the 1st thing I remember thinking is " How the hell do you steer this little Tungsten block " ~ no ABS was manageable but no Power Steering is a mofo'ker !! The 944 is a dangerous idiot-trap. Just cheap enough for people on a budget to want to buy it until they realize it's still a Porsche and requires the right knowledge to work on it when something does break (because it will) and still requires Porsche money to do so. |
