Hi to all:

I'm presently doing Fujimi's 1/24 Sil-80 (Mako's car).

I've made some minor improvements as opening the front air intakes, building an intercooler, making some improvments to the exaust system and changing the seats and the stearing whell. I'll still need to add the 4pt safety belts and some other stuff.

Update

Thank you guys for all your kind words!

I've had some problems with the body paint finish and had to completly strip it!

My interest for cars is quite recent and my previous models were mainly about military themes, were bright, highly polished finishes are not very important!

The undercarriege and the interior are allmost done! Here are some newer photos!

P.S.: I live in Portugal and I bought this model at Hobby Link Japan! The models them selfs are not very expensive, but as it comes from outside the EC I had to pay many € for taxes and other expenses in the costums!!! I also have the Tak (Takumi)'s Ae86, but the undercarriege details is not quite so good!

I bought Bunta's Impreza model kit a while ago - painted it blue rather than steel blue mica like the directions told me to.

Here are pics.

im really sucky at making these models, with the paint being suckily painted, not cutting the parts out well, bla bla bla, heck, i dont care, i still love my cars.

btw i have a GC8VI, Spoon EK9, Evo3 and S14 Q's

Although not really related, my latest project is an MK4 Toyota Supra.
Will need some work converting it to the 1995/7 model, since the Tamiya kit is of the 1993 version. And gonna need 18'inches Volks TE37 wheels...

Kits look great guys! I have a Top Secret Skyline kit I have been meaning to start on.

Real nice paint marcopreto.

Great!!!
You are great in building models!

I'm from Italy, in 2005, august I made a trip in Japan and Ibought some merchandise at Mandarake (Shibuya, Tokyo) and Mr Craft (Ebisu, Tokyo)
See the photo below

I paid about 8 US dollars for the Fujimi's Hachi-Roku model! biggrin.gif , 4 for the EK9's keyring and less than 2 for the Project D's FD in a Capsule Station

Ehm I don't know... When I was in Tokyo the Project D was in progress on TV...
When I bought the EK9 I chose between the Civic and the Hachi-roku

(The paper in the photo refers to the FD, not ot hte keyring happy.gif

Hi:

R33skyline, the picture you 've posted shows the box of the model I'm presently doing!
It's a pain to look to the chassis!!! Body and interiors are OK!

Yesterday I spent a couple of hours doing the brake disks for the front and rear wheels!
But I still have to figure out how I'm going to but them in place! My best guess is to glue them directly to the wheel (the wheels wounln't turn after assembly)! I'm rebuilding part of the suspension, mainly in the rear axis!

Wow, looks great.

Marco, what kind of paint did you use for the body of the SilEighty? You said it has a couple flaws but it looks great in the pics.

Also did the model come with English instructions or is it just kind of follow the pics/diagrams? I am looking at the BNR32 GT-R model. Thanks smile.gif

Amazing photos cool.gif

I wanna buy a model of bunta's impreza but i can't find it in my country sad.gif

Posted by: marcopreto Jun 19 2006, 12:11 AM
Thanks again for your ever kind words!

javierel22, I'm from Portugal and I don't find fijimi ID kits around here either! I had to order them from an online shop, but paid extra € for custom taxes and fees!!!

As you can imagine, the instructions were in japonese!!! I just follow the diagrams, but for most of it you can recognise the parts even without a diagram!!!

dub-c, I used Tamiya TS-XX medium blue (I don't remember the numbers - I'll check them when I arive home), and above that aplyed some coats of TS-13 clear! To top it up, a couple of polishing sessions with Tamiya compound!

And believe me when I say thare are many mistakes!!! For instance, I usually aply every coat with my airbrush (even Tamiya aerosol paints)! But when applying the 1st clear coat, I got laisy and applyed it direct from the can!!! As I'm not used to it, I overlood the model in clear, creating huge runs the totaly destroyed the blue finish! I had to sand everything and worked with what surface detail was left!

I hope to avoid this type of errors in my future models!!!

Cheers

Thanks for the response Marco.

I was at a hobby shop over the weekend and they had the Intitial D FD, 86, and R32 GT-R. I may go back and get the R32 GT-R soon.

Posted by: marcopreto Jun 21 2006, 12:20 AM
Hi:

Dub-c, if you buy that R-32 GTR tell us how good it is!

I intend to do the black sinister bnr32, but I woun't use the fujimi kit! I got a great deal with a Tamiya Skyline GT-R (R-32) and I can't prase this kit enougth!!!

It's (or at least looks like) a great model, very well detailed, and includes the full engine bay!

As the ID GT-R is allmost stock, I'll use this kit to do it (just don't know when)!

If you like to see what is possible to do with this kit, take a look at http://www.spc.org.uk/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=56

This guy realy knows how to do his models!!!

any body of pics of doing an bnr 32 skyline.
i brought a initial d fujimi kit and was wondering if i can get any pics of the details of that car in initial d?

Posted by: marcopreto Jul 3 2006, 02:03 AM
Zon I didn't quite get what your looking for!

Are you looking for pictures of GT-R (r32) or manga drawings of Nakazato's car?

Either one aren't difficult to obtain! Just google it! If you are looking for construction pictures of a R32 model, that's another thing!

From the information provided by our forum members, the Nakazato's car has a stock interior, and the exterior has only a small mod in the front bumper! It might be a bit lowered. Estectically, every thing else is "stock"!

Hope it helps

Is there any place online that sells these models outside ebay? I've been a Gundam modeller for a while, but the places I got for them don't sell these. Also I hear that you have to get a engine/motor separately for these models is that true? I have one more question, are they made of metal or a pastic material?

Posted by: DALAZ_68 Aug 4 2006, 10:33 AM
who ever told u about these having a ''seperate'' engine to buy is a dueche, and please slap em in the face, which answer ur question no there isnt

the only ones with a visible engine bay are those that go tot eh extent of opening up the hood (Xacto knife ing it) and installing an engine from a diff kit into that car,
like my cuzing with his Ek9 tuodu school model, the rest of the other kit he sold for spair parts to a local hobby shop

some go to the extent of actually making the engine,

i once saw this guy who molded an MkIII engine out of pieces of plactice he molded together ( will try to look for pic)

+ i doubt there are any models with opening hoods out there for inital D

iv looked all over for a 86 with opening hood to reveal a 20 valve, but to no avail, not even a 16 valve

not to mention if they have flip up lights, they dont function either, thats why i try to stick to models that dont have flips on them, but an RX7 FC is taunting me recently grin2.gif

usually its about 5

inner parts
outter parts for the body
body

glass/plastic windows
rims

the initial D kits are pretty basic

as for paint, get can, its so much smoother than brush

trust me on this one please! sweatingbullets.gif

The Nakazato GT-R Doesn't come with NightKids Decals.

Edit: Takumi's Trueno comes with ONE NightKids decal. Get this if you want it so bad =P.

=O lol is there any WHITE car (i can paint myself) that comes with a decal? I wanted Keisukes FD so badly but it was already colored yellow ><

It's OWN decal actualy..
Like i don't want a Redsuns sticker in the Sileighty box

Posted by: DALAZ_68 Aug 23 2006, 10:50 AM
each car has its own decal
some come with extra decals u dont need

reason: cheaper for the companies during production

dude if the Fd is already yellow, then paint spray praint a different color sleep.gif
there are other model kits of the initial D type cars other than Fujimi type, BUT... u wont get the decals that come with the official initial D ones, and the body kit for that car might not b available, in other words

for example, i looked every were for the GC8v front from initial D but no go, anywhere, cept for the buntamobile itself from the official initial D fujimi one.

same with the FD, and Eg6 so yea its on u for that one

i say just buy the official one, and repaint it other colors

Hi to all:

This one is turning out to be a extremly slow build!

Here are a couple of pictures of it!

The body paint work needs to be touch up in many places. The 2 color scheme didn't set as cleanly has I wanted!

The differential is almost finished, but I still have to figure how to put all the rear suspension in place!

Hope you like it.

Well, there is the Team Emperor Evo III which would match your Emperor Evo V. You can find that on ebay, and wherever Initial-D models are sold. Also on ebay, I found an http://cgi.ebay.com/Mitsubishi-Lancer-Evo-3-GSR-1993-1-24-model-kit-Fujimi_W0QQitemZ180045494078QQihZ008QQcategoryZ1190QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem.

I usually find these models at Hobby Link Japan (www.hlj.com) or at Hobby Search (www.1999.co.jp/eng/).

Hope it helps.

Nice, now I'm going to have to really get a job so I can afford to do those!

My dad was big into models, and it got into me a little. I enjoy doing it for the fun of learning about the vehicles.

I've got some fun plans to take a Cab-over deisel truck and do a little Optimus Prime out of it.

theres one at the shopping center near the Lavender MRT station, forgot the name of the place liao...poor memory, i got my Initial D Evo 3 and a Spoon EK9 Type-R there, prices there are good and reasonable imo, and theres shitloads of gundam and car models there as well...

Posted by: Soran Dec 16 2006, 06:18 PM
There's a shopping centre near Sim Lim square called Sunshine Plaza which has quite a few modelling shops. Mostly it's Gundams but there's one shop there that specialises in car models. I saw the kit for God's Foot's R34 and Keisuke's new FD on its shelves...

i'd say sand the surface first, you don't want tp paint over the surface given to you already.

***now for painting i'd recommend using spray paint, its pricey but you get a very high quality finish. I use Tamiya....make sure you do NOT USE TESTORS! its horrible.***

Now after sanding you would primer. If your going to have the skyline black, just use the grey primer.

Then you would let dry off around 24 hours.

After if you want a even better result, you can sand again using 1000 grid paper and then primer again. Once again let it dry for 24 hours.

After this you can spray paint your skyline. Now make sure you test the pressure of the spray can and find a good distance to spray from so that you don't get "paint bubbles" after lol. Once you have that done, let it dry for 48 hours in a place where dust cannot sit on the car.

Thats my advice wink2.gif

usually for really small parts like brakes or taillights, headlights i just use bottle paint. Once again tamiya would be a good choice. wink2.gif

* plus if you use spray paint on really small parts your just going to waste most of the paint on the outer surface so yeah. Just use the spray paint for like the body of the car and interior if you would like.

Posted by: DAKMOR Jan 6 2007, 03:53 PM
It is usually best to brush paint or marker(if you have those) small parts and parts that'll need other colors applied to them. But I seem to spray the biggest portions of the mdoel, and then paint over anything as needed, like gas caps, or pedals, I'll never have black pedals, never!!!!!

I'm not to good at all this, but I do enjoy it very much. Paint the disc steel or leave it chrome if it came chrome, or even aluminum. The caliper should be either a gray-like steel or some other color, like red or black.

Thanks you for all your kind words!

Akira, regarding the sun roof on the sil-80, I'm not sure if their car had it, but the fujimi kit instructed to include it (and I thought it would look nice)!

If you think my models look good, that is because you haven't seen the models of many other (much more talented) modellers.

I think I've said it before, but the guys at www.spc.org.uk forum are some of the best i've ever seen.

Posted by: 97 LT1 Jan 9 2007, 02:21 PM
I used to read some of the Scale Modeler magazines [specifically the car ones] a while back, and they would always show pictures of submitted models and from conventions and stuff. The craziest detailed models I've ever seen where the Factory Stock models. These guys would run brake lines, fuel lines, electrical wires [more then just spark plugs and battery cables], open all the doors and trunks, wire led's into the lights, put in factory paint marks [for muscle cars] and everything. Some of them you could not tell if it was a model or a real car. Race car builders are just as crazy, they will put AN fuel line fittings, every little screw and bolt, and everything.

Posted by: DAKMOR Jan 9 2007, 05:18 PM
Mmmmmm, 4th gen!

Anyway, yeah, I have seen a few die cast cars made to look just like the cars of their owners. Rediculous detail, some even used the actual carpet from the car and put it in the car.

These people sure put alot of effort into this stuff, and I don't think it is just a hobby for them, it is something more.

in australia, initial d models are around 45-50 and the others range from 40-60!

Posted by: Kaizoku23 Feb 6 2007, 11:58 PM
Wow. Your models are all very well made. I have made alot of Gundams in my day and looking at your models makes me want to try a kit out. Judging from the picture of the 86 the car model looks very thin and hollow, do you use epoxy? Also do you think its easier than Gunpla?

Posted by: marcopreto Feb 7 2007, 02:54 AM
Hi:

If you're referring to the Fujimi Initial D AE86, the kit is indeed very poor in detail!
After I've bought it I found out that it is a very old mold!!!

Aoshima has a much better offering! If only I knew that!!!

I've used plastic card and epoxy putty for the reconstruction of the underside.

That model is on stand by, collecting dust on a shelf!!! sad.gif

If you decide to have a go on one of these models (and I hope you do) be careful with the one you chose! Fujimi Initial D models can be great, or a real pain (like that ae86)!

If you have the chance, look inside the box before you buy it! If you don't have that possibility, use a trick I found recently; http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/ has an extensive list of models, and you have access to most of the instruction diagrams - that way you can get a good idea of what's inside before spending your money!

I'm still figuring out how to make the rear suspension elements in a neat and simple way!

In the mean while I've started to make Kai's SW20. I'm using a fujimi kit, but not the ID one (I've bought this kit recently as it was selling half its price).

I'm modifying it to look closer to Kai's car, but the wheels are not exactly correct, although I think they'll look good.

Hi:

Thanks for all your words!

Apex Carver, yes, it's a decal. I applied it using my standard method for decal:
Clean surface;
Microscale Micro Set solution for positioning;
let it dry a couple of minutes;
Microscale Micro Sol solution (it partially melts the supporting film);
let it dry completly;
protect with a layer of clear.

And that's it!

Well, man, you'll just have to look elsewhere, if you buy in bulk, buying paint online is okay.

I bought my airbrush at an artstore, and I looked for reviews on the model before buying, I happen to have a very well looked upon model(badger crescendo). My air compressor was bougth from a canadian tire(a hardware store) and I got a water filter to bump it up to a usable art spec) and I spent less than I would have on a crappier art compressor, AND it's better.

If you search hard enough, you can always get modelling, not hard at all. My probem now is that I have little to no space to work on them in my temporary housing. dry.gif

Hi to ll:

Thanks for your kind comments on my sw20 model.

Apex-carver, the decal with the dials was just cleared over with some Marabu clear.

Its a very good artistic clear (enamel based) which results in a very shiny surface after totally cured. I did not used a clear sheet (it would be very difficult to neatly fit it)!

I can not use this to clear coat the exterior because although its enamel based, it is a bit fragile, and would not survive to the polishing process.

i have a rather noob question.. whats the sutff all over the car and seats that makes it look dirty before u paint it? and what does it do?

Posted by: marcopreto Jul 3 2007, 12:27 PM
Hi:

On the seats, the grey stuff it's Tamiya putty, used to cover up imperfections and the yellowish stuff is epoxy modeling putty, used to modify the seat (also very useful when creating side skirts, front and rear bumpers, ... you can shape it to whatever form you like.).

On the car body, I used a black primer, founded spots that needed work and after correcting it, I gave it another coat of white primer. This showed much more imperfections on the surface, that were all corrected (with putty) and every thing was smoothed (with some sanding with a very fine grade sand paper (2000)). That's why it looks that way.

Well, after some serious problems with a coat of clear, the sw20 returns from the dead!

There are some problems to be addressed (such as the wash overflow in some panel lines - the lines weren't very deep, cause I had to reapply the blue color)!

This was my second try tinting the windows, and the result isn't satisfying (yet). I'll try again in my next car.

Hope you like it.

Usually, I only use a brush when painting details or when doing some technic (like drybrushing, or shading with glazes).
When I want an uniform finish, airbrush or cans are mandatory (if you have the technic you can do it with a brush but I find it terribly hard and laborious. This is how it works for me, but different people have different tastes, and you just have to discover what works best for you.

that model SW20 is full of epic greatness. I demand on seeing more! Hoping you'd do an FD soon.

keep up the 1337 work.

marcopreto.. back when you did that Takumi AE86.. did you only use TS-13 clear coat for the hole model.. or did you have to paint the whole thing white and whit the black stripes back?

Posted by: marcopreto Aug 2 2007, 05:53 AM
Hi:

The AE86 is still on construction!!!

The body was painted white, then masked and the black was painted.
Only after every thing was dried (and touch up, 'cause the black didn't set to well) I applied the clear! But to finish it up I need to apply a matte or semi-matte finish to the plastic bumper and stuff like that.

I always paint the body, cause plastic usually have some translucid appearance. After being painted the body has a solid color that has a much more realistic look.

Cheers

Posted by: Sil80Drifter Aug 2 2007, 06:57 AM
Oh i see.. what does the mask and Matte finish do?

Posted by: marcopreto Aug 2 2007, 02:48 PM
OK!

The mask is when we cover some parts of the model we don't want to paint!
In the following picture you can see what I mean:

user posted image

The mask isn't finished in the picture (the rear is still to be masked).

Regarding the finish of a surface, there are 3 types: Gloss, Semi-matt/semi-gloss and Matt.

Auto body parts are usually gloss, they are polished and reflect light quite well (they shine).

A Matt finish does not reflect light so well, so auto parts that are not so smooth or polished are painted with a matt paint - usually for the rubber trim of the windows or plastic bumpers I use a very dark flat (aka matt) grey or flat black.

A semi-matt finish is something in the midle - has a bit of shine, but does no reflect light the same way as a gloss surface - something similar to the reflection of silk.
A semi-matt dark-grey of black also work very well for the rubber trim of plastic parts (if your looking for a cleaner look).

In the following picture you can see a gloss finish on the body and on the steering wheel, and a semi-matt finish on the interior leather. Look at the difference in the shine.

Summing all up, different materials have different looks and that's what we try to replicate.

I hope it helps you.

So just to make sure i got this right.. you paint the AE86 white with normal white model paint from a spray can, and put mask all over the car except for the black stripe so you can spray the stripe with black paint, then then you cover the whole car in matte/semi matt finish (except the windows)?

do you buy semi-matt finish in a can like you do with normal matt??

(thanks alot for the info btw im taking notes so i can make better car models when i buy one next week)

Posted by: marcopreto Aug 4 2007, 12:46 AM
You got it almost right!

After painting the black, I cover the all models with gloss clear. The are parts painted in black that are gloss!

What I'll do next is mask the model again and paint the plastic bumpers and other non shining materials with matt varnish (or semi-matt). I ade a mistake and forgot to paint the rubber trim on the AE86, but as I've got to mask every thing I can paint the them.

And yes, matt varnish or semi-matt varnish (as also with gloss varnish) are available under several models paint brands.
I can recommend the following (as they work ok with me):

For gloss varnish (aka clear coat) I use Duplicolor Rally lack spray can (much cheaper than Tamiya TS-13 clear and less prone to attack decals and previous applied color)

For matt varnish I use Marabu matt varnish which is a enamel based varnish (it as a really dull look)

Usually I don't apply semi-matt varnish, but if I want any part to be semi-matt I do the following: If I'm using acrilyc paint (lets say I'm painting a black leather seat) I had some Vallejo satin varnish to the flat black paint. If I'm using lacquers or enamel paints I had either Humbrol clear or Marabu gloss varnish the the paint (but just a bit - lets say something like 5 to 1 (5 parts of paint to 1 of varnish). It might be just me, ut I think the satin look obtained this way is more convincing.

If you don't understand something, fell free to ask!

I glade to be of any help

Cheers

i get most of it. when you spray matt finish.. you spray the bumper.. and basicaly the WHOLE car body right? Like the top of the car, doors, trunk etc?

Posted by: MattW Aug 5 2007, 11:37 AM
Or, instead of a "matte" finish, just use "flat" paints.

Posted by: marcopreto Aug 6 2007, 06:41 AM
Nope! Just the plastic bits (like bumpers, ruber trims and all the plastic bits that that are not painted in a car - bits that are left in it's natural material - most of the time these are limited to plastic bumper parts, but sometime even side mirrors can be left unpainted in a car)! I want the car body to be glossy! Unless you deliberately want to finish it flat (aka matt), car paints are glossy, so you want to keep that look! If you spray matt varnish over the entire car it will all be flat, and that's not very realistic. You'll have to look at a picture of the car you want to model to see what parts are glossy and what parts are flat and try to replicate this effect - that's it!

And as MattSAF1nsaid we can use a flat paint for these areas (as they are flat already).

Cheers

WOuld the car still look good it if i say.. painted it with matt paint and used a semi gloss finish on it?

Posted by: marcopreto Aug 7 2007, 12:20 AM
Yes, but not as good as if you use gloss varnish over the body!

BTW, the SW20 was just completed (it is far from perfect - I tried to hide the problems from the photos).

Hi:

I'm not sure if these are the right ones

http://www.hlj.com/product/AOS04016

You'll have to paint them, but at least I think they look very close.

If you're looking for the complete kit, fujimi has it:

My next ID model will probably be the AE86 that in on stand by for over a year now!

nah i would do the kit... but i wanna give it a lil Ztune flare to it... i also purchased the extra detailed parts i found threw italianhorses

which hopefully ill get time to do

and im going to paint it the nur-spec yellow...or something close to it atleast

im thinking a white primer base since the plastic color is grey, and i doubt the yellow would site properly on it

the Sileighty was so well made, and now that you mentioned Gundam... i think any of Bandai and Fujimi might consider you to build their scale models for them for use on photoshoots. Marco, nice job on the mr2 sw20!
can anyone give me an overview of any of the fujimi initial d model kits?
I really want a mr2 model and i especially want the Kai edition mr2
I looked over the models over in 1999.co.jp and it seems like the sw20 mold is
pretty consistant and detailed so it is pretty likely that fujimi wouldn't
screw people over with the simplifications(like the ae86). unless they used the old
molds from the touge edition cars... that would soooo suck
2 months ago i bought the touge edition drift king 86 and was shafted
It was so lame, no side skirt, rides too low, parts don't fit and so i gave it to a friend who loves the 86, said he probably able to fix it up.
well, i just want to research a little about the fujimi kai sw20 before i buy it.

Thank you all for your kind comments!

I only have 3 InitalD kits from Fujimi! The Sil-80, the Trueno AE86 and the FD3S (proj D upgraded version, with the Re Amemiya upgrades).

The Sil-80 is quite ok! Fujimi uses their generic nissan chassis (which looks very nice) and IMO the body is ok.

The AE86 is a big let down! But we have to take into account that they are using very old molds for this kit (probably from the early 80's)! I'm still fighting to get mine done!

The FD3S is another thing! It's a new mold (the body is very well shaped). It can be a bit simplified, but is nicely detailed! The interior is the same as other FD kits (at lest I think so) and could be a bit better! The major let down in this kit is their wheels (which are very small IMO) and it's chassis (which is the same as the Sil-80). I hope to build mine after finishing the AE86.

I can not comment on any other kit, but if the InitialD SW20 uses the same parts as the one I've made, it is a very nice kit! The chassis could be a bit more detailed, and the interior could be improved with a bit more detail on the side walls. But, IF it uses the same parts as the targa version I've used, I think it is a nice kit.

Cheers

Marco Preto

P.S.: I'm eager to get my hands on the new kits from Aoshima, as they are based on much newer molds!

Well, this crazy idea came to me suddenly. So I bought an Evo V Rs kit and a Fujimi Police Part Sets and this model was born.
Weathered a bit and the bumpers have scratches all around them.
Interior is also weathered slightly to give a 'used' car effect.

Everything that a police car needed is there.. So positive and negative feedbacks are needed. I know the panel lines are a bit dark but I only realised it after i finished.

Hi to all:

I started another ID car! This time is the Nagazato's GT-R (R32).

I'm using a Tamiya kit, and in order to better represent the ID car, I'm using the body of another Tamiya GT-R (this body has the front bumper with the two extra air intakes) and modified the front bumper lip.

Here's a picture of this body after washing to remove the dust of sanding the primer.

LOL laugh.gif

The "yellow pipes" are not part of the car! LOL

Those are simply two copper wires bent and fited to holes on the cap of the empty juice botle, that I use as a body stand. When painting, the wires act like spings on the sides of the body (more or less like a Tamiya car body paint stand).

I don't have any newer picture, but while the body is drying, I've started working on the engine and undercarriege parts!

I hope to post more updates soon!

hi, i just decidingly gave up on fujimi kits, it's almost like gambling everytime you buy a fujimi kit. i got a tamiya kit instead, i am doing a ford focus monte carlo WRC 1999. it's very detailed and very awsome.

that's some sick weathering right there on that tomy evo, Cham! i might do that for my focus. but the thing is i still have the corolla that i bought from before.(which is like the ID kit but with extra stuff) I am either trying to sell it or try to carry on with it... sad.gif it seems like a real challange, Marco, what have you done with your tofu trueno? but nice mixing and matching kits

I tried to use the old toyota kit for parts for the focus WRC build... but... all of the parts are crap... the tamiya kit is a much more detailed kit.

oh, and ps: i am getting the 2008 wrx for my 17th B-day!

hey guys
WOW, these are som Awesome builds here
i personally love the sw20 from marcopetro =)
im not that really good with models liek that... i made a crappy enzo (from revell... its black, red and... yellow.... well, it was my first model, and the interior is white...), and with my dad a BMW M1 (which is falling down... 1 wheel, and the wing is off =/ )...

anyways, can i know, which factory mades the Chaser from Keisuke_Takahashi... cuz im planning to buy me this model (i love the chaser alot ^^)
and maybe some spray-cans for painting (painting with a brush sucks alot)

i will post some pics later '^^

I've stared working on the engine and suspension pieces, but there's still a lot to be done. The interior is where a worked more and I hope to complete it in a few more days!

I'll post some newer pictures as soon as i take them.

Cheers and thanks for all your kind and supporting words

I wonder... if the guy who made the Sileighty (kudos to it by the way! IT rocks!)... do you happen to have the model kit of a GT-R34 like that of Kozou Hoshino's from Fourth Stage? Mind if you do me a favor and twist the mods of it a bit... like say these add-ons:

Hood - Nismo R-TUNE CF
Wheels - BBS GT or Mine's type
Body Kit: Nismo GT-R R-Tune
color: Bay Side blue
Others: stick to stock or the GOD-FOOT mods/ upgrades...

try to picture it and see what I mean... I know it'll look good.

P.S. do you mind having an ALTEZZA SXE10 model kit there? like the one seen on fourth stage EP.9? what that guy Nobuhiko of the Saitama alliance has?

Gunma's 34, I'm the modeler who did the Sil-80 (and it isn't that good). Thanks for your kind comment! I just wish I had more free time to work on my models! I don't have a model of the 4th stage GT-R (R34) yet, and I don't have any plans to build it in a near future (I still have the AE86 to finish and have the upgraded FD3S from project D waiting for me!!!).
Yes, your suggestions should look good, but why don't you try it yourself?! Give it a go!

Here are some new photos of the model I'm working on! I hope you like them.

the interior looks so detailed... im just... speechless T_T (looks kinda AutoArt'ish lol)
and tbh, i like ur sil80 alot smile.gif

however, im planning to get me an AE86 Levin-model ^^
and theres 2 fellow questions:
1. how much cost a spray-can?
2. are there any tutorials for bodykits? (cuz i'd like to make the jBlood-Bodykit on my hachi roku then)
and, can someone tell me, which factory makes the chaser from page 1 (i guess... however, i meant that model-kit from Keisuke_Takahashi) ^^
would be awesome, if i could get some answers smile.gif

Hi:

Here in Portugal a Tamiya Spray can can cost around 7~8 € (around 10 USD). They are quite expensive, but I find them to be of very good quality.

And yes, there are some tutorial about bodykits! Just look around some modeling forums (in particular automodeling forums) and I'm sure you'll find some!
I'm not sure but www.spc.org.uk/forum might have some!

I've started the work on the RB26 engine bay. Here are some photos:

im guessing that the engine bay is not part of the Initial D kit? unsure.gif

Posted by: marcopreto Feb 28 2008, 04:06 AM
Hi:

The kit I'm using is not the Fujimi Initial D kit!

I'm using Tamiya kit nº 24090 (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10002183) and the body of another Tamiya kit (a old group N GT-R) because of the two air ducks on the front fender. It's not a perfect match to the Initial D car (it misses allot of stuff, like the bucket seat, 4 point harness, aftermarket steering wheel and boost gauge, and the engine will be stock - I'll only had some wiring and pipes). The engine is included on these Tamiya kits.

I haven't been able to work on it regularly, but I'll try to post some new photos soon!

Hey Marco Preto-person, looks like you're working on the same model I am at the moment. :3 Could you tell me how to get that Millenium Jade color just right? I have the same colors used in mixing it from the directions and I can't seem to get the right color out of it.

Posted by: marcopreto Mar 9 2008, 09:10 AM
Hi to all:

Kitty, I'm not sure that I can help you! You can try different mixes, test them on a bit of scrap plastic, and them chose the best match to the color you want! You can also use a color matching service, like the one at www.hiriboy.com! You can order the color you want and this guy will mix it! He has most of Nissan colors on his catalog.
For my model I'm using Tamiya metallic black TS-40, applied with an airbrush.

Here are some more photos of my model (the engine bay is still far from being complete, but the exterior is almost done).Sorry for the pinkish tint on the photos (I forgot to set the camera's white balance)!

Looks good, but if that's a replica or Nakazato's R32, you used the GT-R N1 front bumper. I assumed that the normal front bumper was used. Otherwise, looks great.

Posted by: marcopreto Mar 9 2008, 11:01 AM
Hi:

This is more of a R32 inspired on Nakazato's car than a replica. It misses the aftermarket steering wheel, the bucket seat, the 4 point racing harness and the boost gauge. But regarding the bumper, it is as close I could make to the manga drawings. There is a thread on this forum regarding this subject. This same bumper is portrayed on the Fujimi's Initial D R32 kit! Check out this image:

http://faimg1.forum-auto.com/mesimages/245670/SkylineGT-R(initialD)1.jpg

You can see that it is not the "normal" bumper!

Sweet R32 Man! Even the engine bay looks hot! But you forgot one very very very small detail... the Night Kid's Sticker... then it's a full inspired replica of the Night Kid's R32... let me know on your next project... one of them is an FD right? is it Keisuke's or kyoko's?

Nice job!

Hi:

I returned to the AE86!
I made some huge mistakes while applying a clear coat and covered most of the detail of the body. I'll try to save it by drawing most of it with a designer pen (a very very sharp one)!

And this is its actual status:

I'm still working on the rear differential and suspension (all of it will be build from scratch).

user posted image

I've modified the wheel arches, so that all of them have the same depth.

And this will be its pose (its a dry fit just to check how it will look)

I hope to finish this one quickly and use it to try some weathering technics!

The next Initial D model will be Keisuke's FD3S (Project D version).

I wish I had time to finish mine! I'm not sure but I have some 10 or 12 models under construction (that's why some of them take years to finish). 3 of them are cars (2 of them ID cars - the Project D FD3S and the early "Fujiara Tofu Shop" AE86 (started around 2 years ago)), 3 1/72 airplanes, 2 1/35 AFV, 1 1/72 AFV, one 1/6 resin figure, one 54mm historic figure, and a bunch of Blood Bowl and other fantasy stuff (not sure if I forgot something).

Btw, the yellow paint is Tamiya TS-? aerosol paint. I decant it to a flask and had a few drops of retarder and a bit of lacquer thinner (I get the best finish this way, but it's not perfect yet).

Don't worry about having to paint with a brush! The tools are just the means to do what we want. Sure a spray can or an airbrush can speed things up, but with patience we can do almost anything. I know a guy who was clearing his car bodies with a brush (nowadays he uses an airbrush).
Here's one of his posts on a Portuguese modeling forum (and that model was cleared with a brush - he just spent a lot of hours polishing it):

http://forum.modelismo-na.net/viewtopic.php?t=8199

And for a first model it looks very neat! Welcome to this great hobby.

If i want the car to have a glossy finish like your models, what paint should i use, and which finish/clear coat should i use? and how many coats of each spray should i use? one more question.. how come your cars are an off-white colour before you paint them? do you sand the original colour off?

Sorry for the delay in my reply.

For the color, you can use anything you want (even flat colors). The shine is given by the clear coat/gloss varnish. You just have to test and see if the clear coat you have attacks/reacts with the color coat.
The gloss coat (aka, clear coat, gloss varnish, etc...) I use is Duplicolor Rally lack (they are sold in a large spray can). I initially used Tamiya clear (TS-13 if I'm not mistaken), but I found out it sometimes attacks the color coat or the decals (Duplicolor varnish is not so aggressive, but we should always test on some scrap piece of plastic the first time you use a new color/varnish combination. I usually use two coats of color (some times more) and two or three coats of varnish, but there aren't any strict rule. As long as your happy with the finish, it's ok. And don't forget to polish it a bit. I first use a very fine wet sanding cloth (6000) and remove any dust particles, and then use a polishing compound to get an uniform shine.
Regarding the off-white color, that's the primer color! After checking for defects on the car body (like sink marks, mold lines, etc... which are corrected with some putty and sanding) I usually apply a coat of primer. It's a kind of paint that sticks to the plastic very well and provides a good and uniform surface for the color coat.

I hope this helps you!

Hey everyone, I came here to get some of Ao or Fuji model measurements to see whether I should use them for my project- ID body collection for Kyosho Mini-Z Racer. Z's are 1/27-28, but I hope that some of the smaller 1/24 D cars may be able to fit without a problem.

Could you please give me length, width, between-the-wheel-well lengths? I'm namely interested in Cappu, S13, R32, EK9, MR2 since they're my faves that haven't been made by Kyosho (aside from R32, but its a pain to get so I might as well try the kit).

Posted by: marcopreto Dec 15 2008, 05:30 AM
Nissan, for a first or second model it's not that bad! You used very thick paint, and we can see the brush strokes! For the next model, try using 4 or 5 very thin coat of paint (the first ones will not cover the model well, but that's ok, just let them dry completely - a couple of days at least if you're using enamel based paints). You'll see that after 5 coats, the finish will be much better (although it's very time consuming, having to let each coat dry completely).

Skv012a, I can give you the measurements you ask for the Tamiya R-32 and for Fujimi's MR-2, latter when I get home.

Cheers

Thanks! I'm basing my hopes on Fujimi Devil Z I got measurements for, which is JUST the size of my stock FD. I'll just pray that these may or will fit well without becoming too big. Revell 24-25 EK9 is longer than Chrysler 300 in 27-28, so that just comes out wrong.

Marco is a human, so are you, so TECHNICALLY you can do the same, or even better. If you paint with brush, brush on light coats. Marco uses Aerosol cans for the exterior, from what I recall.

Hi marco i wondering when you gonna finish the Project D RX7?

I'm trying, but I haven't had much time for model making. I have managed to tint the windows (after some 5 tries) and also have done some minor stuff, but my camera is away on the manufacturer for maintenance and repairs (the shutter malfunctioned).

And I have good news for the Tofu Shop AE86! A friend brought me another one from Japan (much cheaper than ordered from Portugal). I'll use the shell of this one and the lower chassis and interior from the one I had (hopefully I'll get a good model).

Hey Nissan, I've noticed that in your models, you quite rush the build. Take your time with everything and your models will look as same as marco's.

No man.Marco models are perfect and i can't do model how do the marco. I paint witch brush so it dos not good that paint witch airbrush.

Yes you can! It's just like what chillined said. We are all Human! Don't feel bad if the model didn't came like what you wanted. Your just starting. And model after model you'll get better and better. Take your time, and even with a brush, you can get a 5 star finish (just remember - thin layers and plenty of time between them, letting it dry while protected from dust).

And my models are not perfect (believe me)!

Cheers

Masking tape!

I painted the blue color and after the varnish/gloss coat was applied, dry and polished (or at least it should be polished - this model is full of little mistakes) I masked out the rubber trim of the windows and that strip! It was then painted with semi-gloss black (I mix a bit of gloss black with matt black and applied it with my airbrush). You can do the exact same thing with a paintbrush, but your mask has to be pressed down to your model very well because it is very easy to get paint under your mask. After two coats you should be ok. And remember to take out the mask carefully and before the paint is fully cured (it may crack is paint is fully cured - wait till the paint is dry to the touch and remove the mask carefully).

Cheers

While having trouble fitting the canards on the FD, I started a new model (I needed a quick and trouble free project). This one is inspired on the S15 that appears on episode 7 of the 4th staged.

I'm using Aoshimas Nissan Silvia Spec. R (S15). The wheels, the exhaust and the interior will not be replicas of that car, it's just inspired.

It will be built almost SOOTB, with only minor additions.

Her are some photos of the work done these last couple of days:

My models are far from perfect!!! They are all posted either in this thread or in the modeler's thread of this forum. I don't have many completed - around 8 car models in around 4 years.

Here are two photos of the S15 interior. I had a lot of problems with it (and it took me most of today to touch up and hide what was messed up under some paint). I'm guessing that the primer that I used doesn't stick very well to the interior parts plastic and while pulling out the masking done on the seats, much of the paint came with it.

Here are two photos:

I did some mistakes on the paint job! The base coat had some orange peel that is showing up when we look at the model at some angles. The clear coat is well polished, but it still show the irregular texture of the base coat.

Even so I hope you like it.

hey marco, lovely s15 you have there. any progress about your ae86?

here's my fujimi rx7 FD3S initial d

This is my first 1/24 Initial D model kit. It's from Fujimi. Well, it is quite decent to me. Although it had a generic chassis but overall it still looks great.!

Color is chrome yellow the decals are sealed under a clear coat. Well, some of you might find the panel lines are dark and I do think so. Maybe I shold tone them down. As it's too contrast with the yellow body color. The only thing I did was drilled holes for the side mirrors so I don't have to glued the side mirrors to the body and cause the paint to melt. So from one photo, you can see the side mirrors is retractable. (Thanks to zenlim for the idea).

There's a bit of problem with the paint on the roof, seems like water vapor trapped in it but still it's OK.......
