Usually they are more abundant out west, especially in cali. prepare to pay a hefty price for a 17 yrs old car tho. Prices generally avg. around 3000 - 5000 for the GTS, higher if it is the hatchback model (guess where the influence is from sleep.gif )

Before u get one, another thing to consider. The real cost of owning a GTS is akin to owning a Civic SI eventually. That's right. The real cost of a GTS is around 17k. That is assuming you do all the replacement/maintenance job yourself. The performance? After a total restoration, and putting in a Redtop, the GTS performs *friggin awesome*, the same level as...

drumroll

a '90ish Honda Civic DX. That's right, the little grocery getter that has no performance to speak of.

See why everyone in Initial D is SO PISSED when their super sports car got beaten by a hachiroku?

Go to www.club4ag.com Hachi's can usually be found in the auction section, for pretty good prices too.

One thing that does make AE86 better than rotary: they are easier to drive and they are a whole lot easier to mod. DO NOT think that they are drift God car, tho. Any 50/50 car can be made into good drift cars, S13, FC, FD, etc.

Plan on spending a year searching if you are serious about getting a GTS. If you are impatient, there are always GTS for sales in www.club4ag.com. Then again, those are usually modded. But once you do find one, the feeling borders on euphoria.

Actually, the GTS has been a cult car long before Initial D came along, and has been expensive for the kind of car they are. Of course, since Initial D the cost has taken a serious dive for the worse.

The hatchback S13 has a better 50/50 weight ratio but the coupe is 50 lbs lighter and more rare.... just a little food for thought.

The Corolla GTS coupes also has better weight ratio than the h/b, lighter and is stiffer. In reality the silvias are better drift cars than the hachiroku, less body roll.

People think that the hachiroku is awesome because Tsuchiya Keiichi drives his "Downhill Demon," and of course, initial D.

Yeah forgot to mention that. The S13 coupes are stiffer than the hatchback too. So it's a tossup.. 50/50 weight distro or 50lbs and slightly stiffer (they make sways and strut bars ya know wink2.gif).

I kind of have the bug too. There is a white AE86 hatch that I pass on my way to work everyday. The guy had it paited like an American flag (white is still primary color). I might see someday if he wants to sell it and throw a maaco paint job on it.

Be careful of what you'll get yourself into. The real cost of owning a hachiroku is very high, despite what people may think about a 17 years old car. Most GTS out there have not been cared for properly, and will require a hefty rebuilding cost both on drive train and chasis. AND that is just to get it into the "blank canvas" state. After that all the usual suspension upgrades, redtop or silvertop engine swap, etc. Before you know it you plunge in enough money to buy a brand new car. laugh.gif

But don't let that stop you tho. The hachiroku has that charm that other cars just don't have. It is so much fun to drive a hachiroku, even more so than, dare I say it, FD, FC or S-whatever. Simple thrill of mechanical art at its purest form.

I currently own a s13 hatchback so I know what you're talking about on getting it to the "blank canvas" state... Everything but my engine is in good shape now. Just saving for the 89-90 180SX engine now (ca18det).

Go for a FC, theyre pretty cheap(got mine for little over 6k) and much faster/agile than a 86 stock. Just my opinion.
