Recently found a place to play AS8 in my area!
Been playing AS3 from 2005 to mid last year after both card readers became unusable. Haven't played any other AS during that time.

I have some questions regarding AS8 since it doesn't compare to AS3 at all, and since the machine is in Japanese.

1) Am I able to change my characters gender by accessing the character customization menu?

2) Am I able to remove the Night Kids/team stickers from my car?

3) After completing a race in story mode you are given a ranking (I assume that's what is it?) which appears over that characters picture. Which is either red, gold, or platinum...in which order do they go from worst to best?

4) At the top of the screen in story mode while selecting a race theres a overall course progress bar? I had 5 of the boxes blue then went back and redid certain races. Now I have 3 blue, 2 red, and 1 half green and yellow. While my friend has a blue ribbon with a medal attached...what does all this mean? (ill take some pictures later this week if necessary)

big thanks to all who answer cool.gif

1) After purchasing your card, the sex/gender of your character is permanent.

2) Not sure but I know you'll be able to change it at least. Just to Factory after insert coins, then press the default option next. Once you enter garage, select the PURPLE option. Next, just scroll left/right until you see the sticker section (you'll know it when you see it). You can use up/down to cycle between the stickers. This will cost you a little points.

3) I think its red/gold/platinum.

4) I honestly never knew what they do but each course on that list will change the more you play that course. It's more like a counter of sorts, someone else probably knows more.

=======

Also, a little heads up. As you play through the Story Mode, the game would eventually give you a decision by showing a tachometer and a YES/NO option (happens around the end of first row or something). Choosing YES will change your tachometer to the new one with no option of changing it back. NO will keep your old one but you'll never get the option to choose that new one again.

The meter in question looks like this:
http://youtu.be/W9caSUxG-Qw

Once you finish the Story Mode, the game will offer you a DIFFERENT tachometer and give you the same option. YES will change it to the offered tachometer while NO will let you keep whatever meter you were using at the time. This is also a one-off decision.

This one will look like this:

Just letting you know so you can have time to think it through in advance since the tachomete is a big part of the HUD and game. The same "permanent rules" also get when they ask you to select your cups, which will also happen as you play Story Mode, but you can turn the cups on and off at least (though you can only have one cup type at a time and each selection offered is a one off)

it's nothing more than a progress bar; an indication on how much you have played a certain map. if I'm not mistaken, the 'ranking' of the indication goes like this:
user posted image
you look at it from the left to the right; left being the less frequently played, right being the more frequently played.

1) Am I able to change my characters gender by accessing the character customization menu?

No, you cannot change your character's gender.

2) Am I able to remove the Night Kids/team stickers from my car?

No, but you can change your team sticker. You can navigate to Initial D Factory to change the current sticker applied.
Alternatively, you can discard your current car and re-purchase it. Your car's performance specs will be saved up to the current spec level, but your car's other parts, like color, transmission type and external aero parts will be discarded.

3) After completing a race in story mode you are given a ranking (I assume that's what is it?) which appears over that characters picture. Which is either red, gold, or platinum...in which order do they go from worst to best?

From worst to best:
二流 < 一流 < 超一流
Second tier < First tier < Top tier
Red < Gold < Platinum

The ranking is based on the side objective of the particular race, and is totally dependent on how much of the side objective are you able to complete.
Different objectives might include: Win with an advantage of ??? meters ahead of opponent; Blind attack (Turn off headlights) ??? times; Make Iketani faint ??? times
For a list of Platinum requirements, you can visit this Japanese website: Wikihouse Initial D Arcade Stage Wiki, you can use Google Translate.

4) At the top of the screen in story mode while selecting a race theres a overall course progress bar? I had 5 of the boxes blue then went back and redid certain races. These banners are a record of how many times you have played a course. Not much information was available about the details of this.

Thanks for the response. Yeah ill do that. I don't have any external parts on my car. As long as my car will remain spec 4 and keep my tach then im good with doing it. How do I go about discarding my car? And after doing this ill never have to deal with a sticker again?

I don't think I was ever asked if I wanted to put the Speed Stars sticker on my car...unless I missed it. I know it asked me if I wanted to upgrade to a Night Kids sticker.

- Speed Stars sticker should be available in the Sticker section that I described earlier. You'll have to just scroll up and down while looking at your car, once you see your sticker just select that one.

- You can have up to three cars per card at a single time. Once you have three, the game will ask you to delete an old one whenever you try to purchase a new one. The delete option will not be available until you have three cars.

My bad I didn't clarify. The first sticker you get is Speed Stars, what I was saying is that I don't remember having a choice to put the sticker on or leave it off...it was automatic. However when you earn the next sticker (Night Kids) it will ask you if you want to replace the existing sticker.

I'm pretty sure there was a choice, because I remember saying no to pretty much all of them and not have one on mine.

Every time you are awarded with a team sticker, you will be given the option to equip it.
