Hopefully all the DJs see this message. It's that time again--update time! Or rather, it appears it has been for a while and I may be the slow one to the party, but just in case I'm not the only slowpoke here's a friendly message to tell you that it's time to update your broadcast software.

The latest Shoutcast DSP Plugin is 2.3.2 and was released September November of last year. Don't even ask me why I didn't update, but I didn't, so that's that. If you're like me and never check for updates on this crap, grab 2.3.2 HERE. The latest as of September 2013 is version 2.3.3 and can be downloaded from HERE.

However, after installing that I found that Winamp would crash left, right and center when I tried to play certain songs in my playlist. Checking the Event Log showed that the crashes were indeed the fault of Shoutcast. At first I panicked, but then I thought to check for a new Winamp version. Sure enough there was one, and installing it solved the crashing problem. Smooth and stable! Of course, the latest Winamp was released almost a whole year ago...so that's probably why mine was crashing so badly. If you're a slowpoke like me, grab Winamp 5.63 HERE Winamp 5.66 from HERE.

That should do it. Now to see if having everyone on updated software solves some of the radio instability we've been having! cool.gif

Won't stop the server itself from taking a healthy shit on things every now and then, but thanks for the heads up. I typically forget to update winamp, and that was a problem I had earlier when I tried to start a show and found that a severely outdated program was keeping me from connecting.

Absolutely, it won't prevent the server from doing funky stuff...but it can help if what's taking a dump is the DNAS/Transcoder after receiving a funky packet from the DSP. There are some notes on the current version of the Radio Server (DNAS/Transcoder Combo) detailing some conditions that will cause it to crash, a few of which this new DSP may help with.

For the others...we'll just have to run some tests. Unfortunately the guy who's actually developing Shoutcast (now that Nullsoft has thrown it to the wind) is pretty restrictive about his releases and thus we haven't had updates to the core server in two years. Yikes.

Well, might be time to consider a triumphant return to the radio now that I have a sound card that doesn't suck nuts. Also gives me an excuse to patch up Winamp and Shoutcast, gotta reinstall them from scratch anyway. laugh.gif

I have updated the first post with links to the latest version of Winamp as well as the latest version of Shoutcast DSP, both of which were updated as of September of this year. They're hosted on Mediafire instead of linking to Nullsoft's page, since Nullsoft announced they were shuttering Winamp's web services.

DJs, please update your programs/plugins.
