I really don't understand why people are saying it's a 2.0/reboot. There are obviously a lot more differences than similarities.

Similarities
- Sand planet
- Villain wears a helmet
- Droid has vital piece of information
- Giant space station threatening to blow up base
- Old guy dies

Differences
- Storm troopers actually doing work
- Female protagonist isn't a princess
- Storm trooper hates his job and defects
- Rathtar scene
- Villain has an inner struggle between light vs. dark
- Multiple hand-to-hand fights against the villain
- Multiple aerial skirmishes(Not to mention they don't take place in space for once.)
- Villain brings out the force in the girl, instead of mentor teaching her the ways.
- Ending scene

Villain who had more training also got overpowered by a random guy who had low midichlorians and a girl who didnt even get trained to use a light saber or use any force powers. Also the good old classic trench run to fire a missile into a hole is back. And Rey and Finn got along in a matter of a few minutes and half the cheesy references are horrible and there to go "hey did you see a new hope cause we did too and look at this. OHHH its from the a new hope look at the reference we are making, look at this joke, ha ha funny."

You forgot that Kylo had been shot by Chewbacca just prior to the duels in the forest. The same bowcaster was shown to do catastrophic damage to anybody else. He was fighting the wound constantly, or did you not notice him punching himself in the stomach many times over to try and dull the pain?

Rey and Finn didn't "get along" until the third act, where Finn proved definitively that he was not working for the First Order. Finn deceived her in order to tag along. Rey was driven by other matters for the entirety of the movie, not to be in a buddy cop movie with Finn. Finn happened to be along for the ride for the most part. He's a stormtrooper. He only knows how to follow.

There is no trench run. The Starkiller Base is an entire planet, with a wide trench dug out to accommodate the weapon and its charging systems. The X-Wing squadron does not fly into this trench. They are trying to destroy an oscillator that is above-ground, not firing proton torpedoes into an exhaust port. Poe only flies into the oscillator shaft to blow more shit up because destroying the oscillator is revealed to be "not enough" to disable the weapon. Also, an excuse for Poe to have more screen time.

I don't think you understand the overarching theme of Star Wars being a cyclical tragedy. Eps I-III were very much in the same vein as IV-VI in terms of thematic elements (hope arrives in the form of a Chosen One and leads to a great victory - enemy rebounds with terrifying success - good triumphs in the end, at a terrible cost). VII-IX will almost assuredly be just the same.

As for the "cheeky references": it's a Star Wars movie meant to cater to fans both new and established. If that pisses you off, perhaps some Sith robes are more to your style from now on.

I agree that a delve into the politics in the next movie would be great. Could tie it in as a conversation between Luke and Rey about why Luke left.

I also think it's a given at this point that Rey is a Skywalker.

You realize she lived in that area, and as she said 'it was a piece of junk/trash' And the way they introduce her is well... a trash/junk collector. She's had her hands in every piece of starship/at-at/etc all of her living life up until that point of leaving with Finn.

And with the visions she had when she touched the lightsaber, you know that was a sort of a kick start for her powers to develop or awaken in her. After all "The Force Awakens".

And it's episode vii, there's 2 more to go, those plot holes will be filled later on, but theres countless of theories so far, so pick one and roll with it.

Rey's vision pretty much solidifies that she's related to Luke in some way, as in by blood. Probably his daughter, which means she has the blood of "the chosen one" within her and is thus quite powerful with the Force... even if she doesn't know it. Remember that Luke was described as a fantastic pilot and ace shot before he ever left Tatooine in Episode IV. The bloodline lends itself to prodigies.

She defeated Kylo because Kylo was in a weakened state (bowcaster, biiiiitch!) and still in a flux over his alignment with the Force. Anybody could see that he was irrational and unfocused.

Luke defeated the target droid aboard the Falcon with the blast shield down before they reached Alderaan, and he'd also never used or known about a lightsaber nor the Force.
