Well, here we go. Stage 2 is here!

---------------------------------------------

Tokyo Xtreme Racer

Stage 2

Act 1 – Alone

Tokyo, Japan. On the Shutokou, racers of all kinds compete for their pride…and to feel alive. Seven years ago, a young girl had come looking for her lost love, rising to the top as she continued her journey. Much has transpired since then. Old racing teams have disbanded, and new ones arose. Many people have retired from running the Wangan. Many new drivers have begun their racing career.

On the Shinkanjo, GT-Rs and other high-performance machines battle it out to the max. Sight-seers in Shibuya have quickly become high-speed maniacs. Then there’s the C1 Loop. The place where our original story had taken place. The place where our new story begins.

Lights glistened and traffic bustled along in peace. Suddenly, a defining roar. Glaring headlights illuminated the road in front of the monster as it thundered onto the unsuspecting highway. A red S30. As it thundered past a yellow Honda Odyssey, the driver, a female with her hair in a ponytail, watched it in awe. “The Red S30…” she said to herself. “The legendary, undefeated Red S30!” The red S30 continued down the C1, using a perfect line. No one dared to challenge it, swallowing their pride and silently admitting their inferiority towards it. Flames burst from the muffler with a loud “thoom” as it shot through a left turn, roaring past a taxi at 218kmph.

The menacing car continued its run, entrancing the other drivers on the highway. 224kmph; 229kmph;236kmph…its speed continued to climb. At 240kmph, the driver balanced the speed, not going any faster. That speed was perfect for a nice run on the C1 Inner Loop. He could go faster, but he didn’t need to. He was happy with his current pace. Besides, he wasn’t in a hurry. He had all night to do whatever he wanted. And what better way to spend his evening?

The highway lights reflected off of his glasses as Kevin relaxed in the driver’s seat of his red S30. Seven years. It had been seven years since he had seen Haruhi. He felt lonely, even though four years ago, Alicia and Hako from his old mountain racing team came back to Tokyo. They sometimes kept him company as he drove, as well as Zero, Iceman, and Nightwing. But he still missed Haruhi.

Still…on the Wangan, the only company he needed was the company of his car. A pair of headlights approached from behind. Nightwing. The two of them always drove together, and so Nightwing joined Kevin. They drove into the night, disappearing into the darkness. Meanwhile, the former fastest of the highway entered from the Shibuya Line. He drove a caramel-yellow Honda NSX Type S Zero, also known as an NA2. The car had maroon-colored lightning vinyls painted on its hood, over its roof, and back to the trunk. Over the rear fenders was a sticker of a crazed-looking skull with crossbones.

He was known as Banshee.

Ten years ago, he took down Iceman and set the record for the fastest time on the highway, earning him the title of the fastest on the highway. Two years later a mysterious red FD with black flames took him down with ease and stole the title. Banshee was still considered second fastest, which still made people fear him. But it wasn’t enough. He craved revenge on that driver, who seemed to be driving a 240Z nowadays.

Things were starting to look grim for Banshee’s reputation on the Wangan. He hardly ever came out, and there were new Wangan runners every day now, it seemed. Soon, he may even be forgotten! He couldn’t have that. He needed to run the Wangan more frequently. He needed to show them that he still ruled the road here in Tokyo!

He drove onto the C1 Inner Loop and began a time attack run. Practice first, racing later. He needed to get back into the groove. As he drove onto the C1, an icy-blue 240Z roared past him. Frostbite. The Z drifted around a corner and out of sight. Banshee frowned. Even Frostbite was moving up on the popularity list on the highway.

In his Z, Rusty handled the car gently, keeping it balanced as he made his Wangan run. His line was a mixture of grip and drift, and his Z had enough power to be a real threat: around 738hp. His GT-R was in storage; Ayaka told him to keep it just in case. But Rusty wasn’t worried. He’d never lose now!

Kevin pulled into his home garage, and the garage door automatically closed as he turned off his car and went upstairs. It was dark and quiet. It was hard, but he had somehow gotten used to it again. But every night he seemed to come home expecting someone to be there.

Haruhi.

As much as he tried to convince himself that it didn’t bother him, he really wanted to see her again. In truth, he really missed her. Ever since she left, he couldn’t sleep anymore. It was like she calmed him. He was able to relax when he knew she was nearby. But now she was gone, and his insomnia acted up again. Because of all of this, driving had become more and more important in his life. In the last seven years, he had become a legend, and now it seemed that everyone was going after him, aiming to defeat him. It actually annoyed him. He felt like he couldn’t go out for a drive and relax anymore. Maybe sometimes he didn’t want to race! Maybe he just wanted to drive by himself! Was that too much to ask for?

There were a lot of new racers that wanted to be the best, and that meant defeating him. None of them could ever do it, of course. Driving was all he had to make him happy now. And he’d continue to do it. And…well, he might as well keep up his reputation as fastest on the highway while he’s at it, right?

There was a knock on his door, interrupting his thoughts. He opened it to find Rusty standing there. “Hey man. Mind if I come in for a bit?” Kevin opened the door all the way, allowing Rusty entry. They had been best friends since back in middle school, and they were always hanging out and joking around. They understood each other pretty well and supported each other no matter what, although Kevin sometimes didn’t agree with Rusty’s thinking.

Although Kevin never said so, Rusty could tell that he missed a certain someone. “You alright, man? You look a little down.” Kevin closed the door and closed his tired eyes. “Yeah,” he replied, “I’m fine.” He didn’t want to get into a conversation about Haruhi, because it would just make him upset, but the truth was that he wasn’t really fine. He decided to change the subject.

“How are you and Ayaka doing?” The question made Rusty grin. “We’re doing great! She tuned my Z, and now no one will beat me!” That was one of the great things about Rusty: he was always optimistic. It was impossible to put him down. He’d go a long way because of that. “I can defeat you,” Kevin said bluntly. Rusty rubbed the back of his head. “Well…actually, you might be able to…but no one else!”

Then Rusty suddenly changed the subject. “Anyway, guess who just moved to Tokyo not too long ago? I saw her on the train yesterday evening. It’s someone you know. Someone we both know.” Kevin’s mood immediately changed. “Oh no…please don’t tell me it’s…”

The next day, sure enough, he found out that it was. It was his little sister…Sarah. It wasn’t a bad thing necessarily…it’s just that she was so damn crazy! And it seemed that her best friend, Amanda, came with her too. The two friends joked around in Kevin’s garage as he changed the tires on Amanda’s car. The car was actually quite nice. It was an RX-8 Type S with a special body kit. It was white with a slightly pink tone, and on the sides was a pink tribal vinyl, with a black tribal vinyl overtop of it, giving the car a punkish-goth look. The headlights were a custom, bright LED blue. The engine was also modified, but Kevin didn’t take the time to check it.

But he knew one thing for sure, although he never expected it from Amanda: she was planning on running the Wangan. He knew Amanda pretty well…and this was surely surprising. There must have been some special reason for why she decided to do it. He finished the work on her car and was about to relax when Sarah walked up. She had her hair straightened, and she wore some blue jeans and a black shirt, with a black and pink checkerboard-like design light jacket.

“What’s happ’nin’, my brothuh?” she said jokingly. “Dude, I haven’t seen you in, like, a decade or something! Oh yeah, and Amanda says hi.” Kevin looked over at Amanda, who smiled, trying not to laugh as she said, “Hi!” Sarah and Amanda hardly seemed serious when they were together in public. They always seemed to be snickering and giggling about something.

Kevin resisted the urge to roll his eyes at their immature behavior in his garage. They just turned 26, and they still acted like children. Both of them were single too, but then again, so was he. He was 29 already! It’s been that long…that long since he last moved to Tokyo. He moved to Tokyo when he was 19. Ten years. He kept his car in top shape all that time, giving it an overhaul and body refresher every three years. Kevin wanted to drive that red S30 forever.

Kevin nodded at Amanda to acknowledge that she said hello to him, then turned to Sarah and said, “Don’t you still have your car? Why are you making Amanda drive you everywhere?” Sarah’s mood declined at the question. “No, there was this tree, see…”

Kevin sighed and, unable to listen any further than that, walked away shaking his head. Sarah went back to chatting with Amanda as Kevin went into his office. After Amanda paid him, she and Sarah left. Kevin watched them leave. Another driver for the Wangan, huh?

Now a new character shows up in replace of Haruhi... Kevin's sister and her best friend...
I wonder how the story will progress now that there are no new threats... probably that guy in the NA2 would be...
It's really something else that the story takes place many years after act 1...
keep at it. Working on mine as well... having a hard time to figure out the next chapter's plot.

Stage 2 - BEGIN

I always enjoy reading what you write. Sometimes, it's like seeing a flowing river, but being able to pay attention to every single ripple in it.

And this was just classic.

Yeah, Sarah's based off of my little sister. She's the greatest.

Act 2 - Running The Roads

Kevin wanted to go already. Work was slow, and he was doing it himself ever since Haruhi left. When she said she’d deprive herself of him, she meant it. But she forgot one thing: she was also depriving him of her! And he could really use her help and her company. It frustrated him, how she just left like that. Rusty helped out every once in a while, but it wasn’t the same somehow…

That night on the C1 Inner Loop, Banshee continued to practice. He was getting better, but he felt that it still wasn’t enough to beat that red S30. He needed a perfect line. He needed to use his brakes as less as possible. He needed to…wait a minute…something was coming up behind him. A ghostly blue Porsche 930 Turbo. Nightwing. Banshee sped up, hoping to outrun the monster 930, but his dream never came true. The 930, apparently not in the mood to race, overtook Banshee’s NA2 on a straightaway and quickly pulled away and out of sight.

Banshee gritted his teeth. He had a long way to go before he was ready for the red S30. But he’d be on top again. He was determined to be on top again.

Meanwhile, Nightwing drove on, waiting for the red S30 to emerge from the darkness. That red S30 gave him something to look forward to. The only person who gave him a real challenge. His 930 roared as he went through a quick left corner, and then flew onto the straight. Someday he’d officially race that S30. And when he did…well…was there a chance that he’d win?

Back at Kevin’s house, Kevin was getting prepared to go out for a drive. When he prepared, it wasn’t the way other people usually would. First he liked to give himself a reason for why he was going out. Of course, this was easy for him since his only real reason was that he couldn’t sleep, and wanted to do something else besides lay awake in his bed for ten hours doing nothing.

Next he needed to clean his car and refill the gas tank. Cleaning the car was important to its aerodynamics. Preparation such as this wasn’t only to ensure that he won any races. It was also so that he felt better about driving. A clean car and a good reason kept his conscious clear. The key to his success on the Wangan.Well, of course, the big key figure was his skill.

As he drove to the highway, he remembered back when he drove his Beetle up in the mountains. Back then, before he met Haruhi and was convinced by her to start a team, he only drove fast on the mountains at night because he got bored and impatient while driving home from night school. That one night though…the night those two RX-7’s were drifting through the pass…even though they were fast cars, they seemed so slow to him. He passed them with ease and lost them in the next few corners.

The two RX-7’s were soon found to be Haruhi and her big sister, Almo.

It had been so long since then. Not only has Haruhi improved, but he has as well. And he would continue to improve. He drove onto the C1 Inner Loop and casually drove around.

Haruhi would also continue to improve. But she’d never beat him the way she drove.

On the C1, for the first month he had been in Japan, Kevin trained by duct-taping his right foot on the accelerator pedal, his left foot on the clutch pedal, his right hand on the steering wheel, and his left hand on the shift knob. Extremely dangerous? Yes, perhaps…but it was extremely effective. It was how he drove now. Without the duct tape, of course. Gentle control of the car; careful turning and gentle accelerator work were what he was an expert at. Although he hated to seem overconfident, in his mind he knew that no one could beat the kind of skills he possessed.

A car started coming up on him and passed by while he casually drove on a straightaway. A pinkish-white RX-8. She didn’t challenge him though. Still practicing, huh? Well, that was good. Her driving was very smooth; very fluid. It was almost like watching a ballerina. The RX-8 drove around a corner and out of sight.

And that’s when another car approached. An icy blue 240Z.

He had heard about it, but hadn’t actually seen it. Was that Rusty? He waited and allowed the Z to pass. It was Frostbite, alright. In the Z, Rusty couldn’t help but smirk. He wanted to challenge Kevin so badly…but in his mind he knew he wasn’t ready yet. He pulled up beside of Kevin, honked his horn twice, then kept on practicing.

Kevin was a bit disappointed that no one wanted to drive with him, but he was still content with driving by himself. He loved the feel of his car as he drove it. Like it spoke to him. It was as if it told him what it could and couldn’t do. It was so calming, driving the Wangan. And the C1 was the best! So many twists and turns…and getting through each one perfectly always felt so good, no matter how many times he did it.

Yep. The Wangan was great. Little did Kevin know that soon the highway he knew and loved would see the most action it had ever seen since it was built.

Ok, thanks! Fixed it. *sigh* I send these to all my family and friends. Soon I'll need to send them updated ones.

Act 3 – Garage Work

Every single night now, Banshee would be practicing, pushing his NA2 to the limit. He tested his skill by challenging other drivers and timing himself to see how long it took for him to lose them.

So far, the results were quite satisfactory.

But he still needed to improve. He needed to be undefeatable. There had to be a 100% chance of victory for each battle he ran. He could expect no less from himself, or he’d never be able to defeat that red S30. He also needed a better line than the one he was currently using. From what he heard, that red S30 could do the C1 Inner Loop without using the brakes. How could he beat that? There had to be a way. And he was going to find it.

At noon at Kevin’s garage, Kevin looked over Amanda’s RX-8. She brought it over for a quick check. Sarah sat on a chair, using her laptop to chat on AIM with her friends back in America. She chuckled as she read one of the messages and quickly replied back, her fingers dancing along the keyboard.

Meanwhile, Amanda watched Kevin examine her car. For some reason she always felt uneasy around him. Of course, the fact that she was extremely shy contributed to it. It was really because he was a no-nonsense kind of guy though. When she was around him, she felt self-conscious about her behavior. Sarah didn’t, but Sarah would be Sarah.

Finally, Kevin lowered the RX-8 to the ground. He nodded to Amanda, and without saying a word, went into his office. Pictures of previous cars he owned lined the walls. His panda Levin AE86, his red ’67 Corvette Stingray, his silver ’49 Beetle, his RX-7 Type RZ, and his red 240Z. Each wall sported different pictures of each car.

On the desk in a nice frame was a picture of him with his uncle, standing beside a black ’71 Corvette Stingray, his uncle’s car. He hadn’t seen Craig in eleven years now. But it was Craig’s idea to start a business in Japan. If only he could see Kevin’s success now…

He sat down in his chair and closed his eyes, losing himself in thought.

Meanwhile, Amanda sat down in the driver’s seat of her car, but she left the door open. “Hey…Sarah…” Sarah looked up from her laptop. “What?” Amanda put her right hand on the steering wheel, looked out at the busy road outside of the garage and replied, “I’m going back out tonight. I think I’ll be going from now on. This driving stuff helps me with all of my stress, I think.” Sarah nodded absentmindedly and looked back down at the laptop as Amanda started the car. Sarah quickly got in and the car pulled away, leaving the garage empty.

The bustling city sounds were all that Kevin heard from the office. Today Rusty was with Ayaka. He wouldn’t be coming by to help.

Just then a caramel yellow NA2 with maroon lightning vinyl rolled in. The driver got out and looked around. His hair was cut short and he had a serious look on his face. Kevin walked out and the driver quickly said what he wanted done. “Tire change, medium grade. Thanks.” Medium grade? What did he think this place was? A pit stop? Well whatever. Kevin got to work.

Many racers came to his garage for his services, mainly because they knew he didn’t ask any questions about their modified cars. Of course, not many people knew why. Not many people knew who he was. Not many people knew that he was a racer or that he drove the undefeated red S30. Only his close friends knew that. Actually, Sarah and Amanda didn’t know yet. But they’d probably find out soon, especially if Amanda was going to be running the Wangan.

Anyway, this racer apparently didn’t know who he was. The car looked familiar to Kevin. He hadn’t seen it in a long time. What was the year that the Type S Zero version of the NSX came out again? Quite a while ago, that was for sure. This car sure was threatening. It even looked menacing. It had a rear tri-spoiler, with the middle wing having a longer width than the top and bottom wing, and its flip-up headlights were replaced with stationary headlights. He had never seen such a wicked-looking NA2 since…

As he worked on the car, the driver watched over the progress patiently, not interrupting Kevin even once. Whoever this guy was, he really must be serious about what he does. He had the look of a disciplined business leader, and the shape of his car hinted that he must’ve made quite a lot of money. He probably was a business leader.

Kevin was getting tired of the garage being so quiet, and decided to attempt to get a conversation going. “So. Do you go to the highway often?” The man frowned and replied, “I do indeed.” Kevin was disappointed. That conversation didn’t last very long. Well, whatever. “So what’s your name?”

The man didn’t speak for a moment, as if he was trying to think about what to say. Finally, he stated, “My name is Banshee.”

Banshee. So that’s why this car seemed so familiar. The previous fastest on the highway. He had only gone against it once; only seen it once. It was a nice car. It looked like it had been through a few changes since the last time he saw it back then. He wondered…would he face it again?

Sorry for taking so long to reply!

Things have turned even more interesting. We have the Banshee, we have Kevin, and there's a possiblity the two will eventually race. The thought alone makes want updates, and I haven't even had the opportunity to actually play any of the TXR games (with the exception of the GBA game, but Genki didn't make that one). Then there's the new character, Amanda. Wonder how she's gonna turn out.
And the small peek at Kevin's backstory is also a plus.

Again, sorry for taking so long to reply. And I'd like to see the next chapter.

Act 4 – Stranded Tourists

As Kevin worked on Banshee’s car, an airliner landed at the Tokyo International Airport. Two friends got off, tired from the trip, even though they slept through it. Ali put her glasses on and combed her red-dyed hair with her fingers as Haley rubbed her eyes. Haley put her glasses back on as well and slightly shook her head to make sure her short brown hair wasn’t too out of place. She was so tired that you could never tell that she was extremely excited. She loved just about everything about Japan, and it was her dream to visit the country. Now thanks to her friend Ali, her dream was realized.

Ali’s old car was unloaded from the plane and the two friends got in. Ali turned the key.

Rrr, rrr, rrr, rrr.

She turned it again, this time harder.

Rrr, rrr, rrr.

“No, no, no! Come on, buddy! Come on!”

No matter how many times she turned the key, the car just wouldn’t start. Ali slammed her head on the steering wheel and faked a sob. Haley bit her lip, then suddenly started beaming with excitement as she got out of the car. Ali looked up and said, “Where are you going?” Haley turned to look at Ali as she kept walking, still beaming as she replied, “Don’t worry. I got this.”

Haley walked to the side of the street and called for a taxi. As one rolled up and stopped next to her, she spoke something in Japanese, and the driver smiled and nodded. Haley skipped back to Ali, who was sulking in her car, and said, “Come on! We’ll take a taxi. I’ll do the talking.”

Ali hugged her car’s steering wheel and argued, “But what about my poor car?!” Haley grabbed Ali’s arm and pulled her out, replying, “We’ll call a tow truck later, now come on!”

Back out on the Wangan, Rusty drove his 240Z calmly, waiting for a challenge. And one quickly emerged from the darkness behind him. A pinkish-white RX-8. It was Amanda. She flashed her highbeams at him, and he grinned with pleasure. “Finally, a challenge for my Z!” He pushed the accelerator down all the way as they went down a short straighaway, with Amanda right on Rusty’s rear bumper. Around each and every turn, Amanda would come out right on top of him. That frustrated him. He knew he could go faster. Why couldn’t he? He wished he had something extra, like nitrous. That would make him go faster.

Amanda was getting all excited inside, even though on the outside she looked serious. She was actually doing it! She was keeping up with someone!

Rusty gritted his teeth as his Z’s revs went up gradually. He wasn’t going to lose. He couldn’t stand losing. Even the thought of losing made him angry. He balanced his speed around a right turn and then floored it onto the straightaway, coming up on the sharp downhill left up ahead.

As the two cars took the turn, Rusty slammed on his brakes. Then his eyes suddenly widened in shock. Amanda wasn’t expecting him to stop so suddenly, and she slammed into the rear of the Z at 257kmph. The two cars careened into the wall, wrecked. Rusty only said one thing before he passed out: “Oh shit…”

Meanwhile, Ali and Haley sat in the back of the taxi as it cruised on the highway. Haley was absolutely thrilled to be in Tokyo, and she hadn’t stopped smiling ever since they arrived. Ali, however, was a bit upset that Haley made her leave her car behind. Haley stopped looking out the window and nudged Ali. “Hey, hey, come on! Look!”

Ali had an annoyed look and refused to look out the window. Haley’s arms went limp with disappointment. She sighed and said, “Ali, what’s wrong?” Ali crossed her arms and replied, “I can’t believe you made me leave my car behind. Now he’s all alone and I’m sad…” Haley rolled her eyes and said, “Ali…come on…please? We’ll get your car safely to a garage and fix it up. I promise. Okay?” Ali looked discontent, but decided to give in. “Okay…you promise?” Haley nodded.

Just then, the taxi came to a sudden stop. Up against a wall were two wrecked cars. Ali gasped, and Haley looked at the scene in shock. The two of them got out of the taxi, along with the driver. Haley exclaimed, “Oh my god!” The taxi’s driver started dialing a number on his cell phone as Ali and Haley looked at each other in disbelief.

Pronounced "Ah-lee." Glad you like it!

Act 5 – Depressing Times

Kevin soon heard of what happened to Rusty and Amanda as he got a late call at his garage about an old, American car broken down at the airport. A tow truck was bringing it in for him to look at.

He thought about what happened to Rusty and Amanda while he waited. Why was Amanda racing someone already? She didn’t have any experience at all with racing someone, especially from behind. A foolish move indeed. Especially going against someone as unpredictable as Rusty. Twenty minutes later, the car came in. It was getting late. He’d look at the car tomorrow.

On the Wangan, Banshee flew by the crash scene of Rusty and Amanda. Of course, he didn’t know who they were. And he couldn’t possibly care less. Racers who crash don’t deserve to race out here. He continued down the highway. His times were getting better. He was getting closer to his goal. He was almost ready to take back his throne! He’d be the fastest on the highway once again!

Early the next morning at the hospital, Ayaka knelt by Rusty’s side and whispered, “Darling, what did you do?” Rusty looked at her and replied, “Whoever raced against me ran into me when I hit my brakes. Oh no…my Z! What happened to it?!” Ayaka frowned and stood up. “It’s been crushed. You destroyed it. It was beyond repair.”

Rusty slammed his fist on the mattress of the bed. “Shit!” He spent so much on that Z! It was valuable too! An antique! Ayaka turned on the sink and filled up a cup with water as she asked, “What will you do now?”

Rusty looked at his hands as he thought it over. “Well, I’m still gonna drive on the Wangan. Thank god I still have my GT-R.” Ayaka sighed. You just couldn’t stop Rusty, no matter what you tried. “Honey, I worry about you out there…” Rusty’s face softened and he took her hand. “I know, but don’t worry, baby…I’ll be fine.”

Ayaka grimaced. “Is that why you’re in the hospital?” Rusty had an annoyed look on his face as he rolled his eyes and yelled, “It wasn’t my fault!” Ayaka stood up and rubbed her face in frustration, and then she yelled back, “It doesn’t matter whose fault it was! You might die next time!” Rusty shook his head. “No. There won’t be a next time. I won’t crash again.” Ayaka shot him a furious look as she said, “You don’t know that!”

Rusty tried to calm down and calmly said, “Ayaka…you can’t stop me from running the Wangan.”

Ayaka closed her eyes and looked away. “Maybe not. But I can leave you.”

At hearing that, Rusty’s chest began to ache. “Ayaka!”

Ayaka was unable to look at Rusty as she told him what she had decided. “If you ever wreck again…you won’t see me anymore. I just can’t…deal with this pain anymore.”

Rusty couldn’t believe what he was hearing. There was nothing he could say.

Meanwhile, Kevin got to his garage early so he could see what was wrong with the car that was delivered the night before. It was a pretty worn-out old car. A dark bluish-colored Oldsmobile of some sort. Although pretty worn, it was kept pretty clean and smelled nice.

Looking at the engine, the problem soon revealed itself. This car was so worn out that the engine was falling apart. Not literally, but the point was that the only way to fix it would be to completely overhaul the car. He felt a bit sorry for whoever owned it. He closed the hood and slid under the car to check the condition of the underbody.

Three minutes after he slid under the car, Ali and Haley walked in. Haley quietly said, “I think this is the place.” Then she saw Ali’s car in the garage and gestured towards it. “Ha! See? This is the place!” Ali rushed over to her car and hugged the hood. “Oh, my poor Milo! Get better soon, okay?” Kevin crawled out from under the car and stood up…and was surprised to see who it was. “Haley?” he said. Then he looked at the girl hugging the car. “Ali?”

Haley looked at him and suddenly started beaming with excitement again. “Oh my god! No way! Kevin! Look Ali! It’s Kevin!” Ali looked up and smiled. “Oh! Hi Kevin!” Kevin was still a bit surprised to see his two former classmates again. “Ah…uhm…hey…” Now he felt even worse. “So…whose car is this?” Ali smiled bashfully and slightly raised her hand. “It’s my car.” Kevin looked at the car and told Ali the bad news. “Well…see…your car probably can’t be fixed. It’s so worn out that it’s just about falling apart. The only way to ‘fix’ it would be to replace everything. And that would cost a fortune. I’m sorry, Ali.”

Ali almost looked like she was about to cry. “Wh…what? No! Milo!” She hugged the car’s hood again. Haley patted her on the back and said, “Well…don’t worry, Ali. We can find you a new car.” Then she stopped and thought for a second. “Or a used one. Whichever’s cheaper.” Ali continued to hug her car’s hood. “No! I don’t want another car! I want my Milo! We’ve been through so much together!”

Haley put her hands on her hips and sighed in a frustrated manner. “Okay Ali, seriously. Come on. We’ll find a nice, used, Japanese car somewhere!” As the two of them walked out, Kevin said, “Good luck, Ali.” Ali turned around suddenly and yelled, “Whatever you do, please don’t crush him!” Kevin found the order quite strange. What was he supposed to do? Bury it? He decided to put it in the back lot of his garage and cover it with a tarp until he could find out what he’d do with it.

As Ali and Haley sat in the back of a taxi, Ali began to be overcome with frustration. “Haley?” Haley continued to look out the window in awe as she replied, “Huh?” Ali leaned back in the seat, crossed her arms, and looked up at the ceiling. “Let me run something by you real quick. We came to Tokyo to visit for a few months. We hardly brought enough money for a decent apartment.” She closed her eyes and forced herself not to sound too angry as she continued. “So how in the hell are we supposed to afford a new car?”

Haley turned to face Ali with a confused look on her face as she argued, “Well what do you expect us to do?” Ali gestured around the taxi cab that they sat in. “How about what we’re doing right now, Haley?! Stop gawking at the city and think!” Haley smiled, trying to lighten the mood. “Well, sor-Ry (Ryousuke)! Besides, I think it’d be kinda cool to have a Japanese car. Just sayin’…”

Ali looked out the window. She thought the city looked completely different during the day compared to what it looked like at night. She was still trying to decide which she liked better.

It sure was nice to get away from her life in America and just relax for once. She was disappointed that she wouldn’t be taking her car back with her though. She wished there was some way to fix it. She and that car had definitely been through a lot together. It was definitely going to be difficult to get rid of it.

Fixed that for you.

Poor Rusty. He's in the hospital, his Z is wrecked, and suddenly he has to make a choice. So, what decision will he make?

Poor Ali too.
But I get the feeling Milo's going to be rebuilt better than before. .

Again, I'm sorry for posting so late. Please post the next chapter smile.gif

Haha, I forgot that this site did that with the names.

----------------------------------

Act 6 – The Seeds Of A Story

Back at the hospital, Amanda was finally released. Sarah sat in the waiting room for her friend. When she heard what happened to Amanda, she was so scared. She had never felt like that in a long time. And she definitely hated the feeling. She wanted to stop Amanda from driving now. Maybe the experience of the crash would do that job for her.

Amanda came out into the waiting room after what seemed like forever to Sarah. She looked tired, but she smiled when she saw Sarah. They hugged, but the mood was different from what it usually was like between the two of them. They were quiet. Speechless. Amanda could have died. That realization scared both of them. It was now that they truly realized just how much they cared about each other.

As they silently walked out and caught a bus, Rusty opened up the rising, metal storage garage door up near his apartment to reveal his icy blue GT-R. As he stared at it in the darkness, his thoughts went back to what Ayaka had stated. Would she really leave him? Was it that serious? He got into the R32 and just sat there, looking at the dashboard. He loved Ayaka so much…and he thought she loved him. Was she really so worried that she would ditch him? Try to forget about him? Rusty was furious with the thought of Ayaka loving another man.

He closed his eyes and attempted to clear his mind. He still had so much that he wanted to do on the Wangan. There was so much he had to prove. He put one hand on the steering wheel. He’d go back out. And he would not crash. Never again.

He’d never worry Ayaka again.

Ali and Haley walked along the sidewalks of Tokyo around eight in the evening. The lights were overwhelmingly entrancing and beautiful. And there were so many people! Not good for those with claustrophobia. It was extremely crowded. They walked past so many shops and restaurants, many of which they had never heard of before. Soon they came to a used car lot. Haley had insisted earlier on at least looking at what they had. She asked the owner if he had any nice, but cheap, cars. He nodded and began speaking to her as they walked over to the cars.

As Haley and the owner conversed, Ali spotted an orange 300ZX. It had a menacing body kit, and although she usually wasn’t interested in street-racing modified cars, somehow she became entranced by it. It seemed to emanate a strong aura. She couldn’t resist it. And it was actually cheap too.

Haley stopped talking to the owner and glanced at Ali. “Ali? Are you okay?” Ali put her hand on the roof of the car and smugly replied, “I’m fine, “ with a grin on her face as she continued to examine the Z. “I think I’ve changed my mind, Haley. I like this one.” Haley gave the car a quick look-over and immediately disagreed. “It’s…a racing car, Ali. We can’t get this.” But Ali seemed strangely determined; it was almost as though she was…possessed.

“Yes. I can. You’re forgetting that I’m the one looking for a car. I’m getting this one.” Haley attempted to argue as Ali walked away. “B-but…”

Something weird had just happened. Ali suddenly changed. Haley looked at the 300ZX with a slightly frightened look. Something wasn’t right.

After they bought the car, they were driving to their apartment when Haley attempted to initiate a conversation.

“Ali?”

No answer.

“Ali?”

Ali still didn’t answer. Now Haley was getting upset. “Ali!” Finally Ali responded, somewhat frustrated. “What?” Haley could hardly believe what she was witnessing. “What is your problem?! Why are you acting like a b*tch now? Snap out of it!” Ali didn’t act angry at what Haley said, and instead simply replied, “What are you talking about? I’m acting quite normal, thank you.” Haley tilted her head to the side and tried to think of something to say. Ali most certainly wasn’t acting normally.

Something was wrong. And Haley was certain it probably had something to do with the car.

At the same time, Kevin sat in Zero’s restaurant, in his office. Zero leaned back in his chair and crossed his legs in a businessman-like manner as he thought about the question Kevin had reluctantly decided to ask him. “Well,” he finally said, “I haven’t seen her. But I have heard people talk about her. Seems she’s an untouchable now! Imagine that, huh? She runs the Shinkanjo now, along with the rest of them.”

The Shinkanjo? Kevin had never really ventured that far out into the highway yet. He wondered what it was like.

Zero frowned and leaned forward. “Listen. She’s changed now. She doesn’t care about you anymore. I heard that you’re nothing to her now.” Kevin was shocked by what he just heard. “Y…you must be mistaken…I mean…what would bring that about all of a sudden? She couldn’t have just forgotten about me…”

Zero closed his eyes and massaged his temples. “Look…she’s an untouchable now. They always turn out like this. Thinking they’re better than everyone else; that they’re superior.” Kevin closed his eyes and stood up. “Well…if any of those untouchables believe that they’re faster than us C1 runners…then they are mistaken.”

As Kevin walked out, Zero stood up. “What will you do now?” Kevin stopped. There was only one thing he could do. “I’m going to the Shinkanjo tonight.” Zero crossed his arms and asked, “What are you going to do out there?” Kevin frowned, and as he walked out, he replied, “Prove that the untouchables aren’t untouchable.”

While Kevin prepared for his Wangan run, Rusty was already on the C1 Inner Loop. He was starting to notice something. Something strange. It seemed like his car was going faster than it was supposed to. It was definitely something extraordinary. His times were improving drastically. He was getting better and better every second he drove. He could feel it. He was…untouchable. No…he was better than the untouchables…he was different. And that suited him just fine.

First the Phantom. And now a possessed Z? And Haruhi's become an untouchable? Rusty's suddenly turned faster, and Kevin's taking his Z out on the Shinkanjo.

I would like to read MOAR. And I would like it if you posted up the next chapter smile.gif

Okay, here you go!

-----------------------------

Act 7 – Reunion

Out on the Ariake entrance on the Shinkanjo, Kevin casually drove along this unexplored part of the Wangan calmly. Well…as calmly as he could. It couldn’t be true. Haruhi just couldn’t do that. She would never…she would never…would she? As much as he didn’t want to believe it, in the back of his mind he reluctantly believed what Zero told him of her. He frowned and changed the subject in his mind.

The roads on the Shinkanjo were so straight and long…why would anybody get excited going in a really long, straight line? Okay, so maybe you could get up to really high speeds, but was it really that satisfying? Kevin believed that it was more satisfying getting up to a high speed on the C1 circuit. This is where Haruhi came to become better than he was? What a joke. It didn’t take skill to drive in a straight line and take miniscule turns. If she returned to the C1 now, she’d be left behind real quick.

Is this why she thought she’d be better than he was? Because she got up to higher speeds out here? As if that even mattered. Not where he ran, it didn’t. He sighed. He had a feeling that if he ever met her on the highway now, he’d be disappointed. Especially if he took the battle onto the C1, which he planned on doing.

The roads seemed a bit more open out on the Shinkanjo. Maybe it was because there weren’t as many walls lining the edges of the road as on the C1. Maybe it was because the traffic was more widely-spaced out. He didn’t know whether he liked it or disliked it, but he supposed that trying new things wouldn’t hurt.

It wasn’t long before a blue BNR34 roared by him as he cruised the Shinkanjo. He recognized the car as belonging to the leader of team Free Way, Blue Comet, who used to run the C1. So this is where Free Way ended up.

Kevin drove down an extremely long, straight stretch of road, took an exit to the left, and started to come up on a parking area. It seemed that a lot of racers occupied it daily. Were any of them from the untouchables, he wondered? He passed by the parking area and continued down the Shinkanjo, hitting a section that seemed a bit like the C1. It had more corners than the rest of the Shinkanjo, and even had walls lining the sides of the road, just like the C1.

And that’s when he heard it. A rotary engine.

The car was coming up from behind him, possibly chasing him from the parking area. If so, then there was no doubt who it was. There weren’t many people crazy enough to chase this Z down, after all. Was it…her? Or just some other FD with a brave driver? It was hard to see from the mirrors. Well, whether it was her or not, he came here to defeat any challengers. Of course, if it was Haruhi, he’d defeat her whether she challenged him or not.

There was only one real way to find out who it was: allow them to pass. Kevin let off of the accelerator, slowing his S30 and allowing the FD to pass by. The FD sat behind him for a while, riding his tail. Watching. Finally, after what seemed like forever, it decided to overtake, and pulled up in the right lane beside of him. He almost didn’t want to, but he glanced over to look at the car.

Dark silver metallic.

He resisted the urge to overtake her. He wanted to so badly. After all that she had put him through, he just couldn’t stand letting her ride in front of him. He wanted to get back at her. He wanted to show her that all of her practicing was for nothing. He wanted to leave her far behind. He waited, however. The truth was that he could overtake her any time he wanted. He didn’t need to try at all in order to defeat her.

Really…even though he was frustrated by his feelings…he was relieved to see her car again. And he was also relieved by what he saw in her driving. He could tell by the way she drove that she had improved. She seemed much more confident than she did seven years ago. He was…happy. Happy that she had improved in that area. She’d need confidence in herself for more difficult battles she would no doubt be involved in in the future.

However, had she actually gotten any more skilled?

Kevin sat behind her for a bit longer, observing the way she drove. The way her car behaved. Her line was more stable than before. Out on the Shinkanjo, at least. No big deal. But her pedal control was becoming quite impressive. She didn’t seem to be using her brakes like she used to, and she had almost completely mastered using her accelerator to keep her car stable through corners at high speeds.

She remembered how he drove…and mimicked it! Just like she always used to…back in the mountains. It was one of her “gifts.”

But her improvement was slow compared to Kevin. He had improved a great deal as well. He always looked for a quicker, smoother line through the course, and finding that on the Wangan was extremely difficult, seeing as your line changed depending on traffic patterns. But he did it. And he continued to every night. The perfect Wangan line!

In the dark silver FD, the driver sat rigid. Her shoulder-length brown hair was neatly combed, and her side-braid dangled limply as she slightly turned her head to look in a mirror. Her brown eyes glared at the mirror, examining the S30 that continued to give chase. She was never going to lose him. She gritted her teeth. “Ksh…” Why? Why did she decide to chase after him? He’d never leave her alone now.

They hadn’t seen each other for so long…maybe that was why she chased after him. She missed him so much…she was such a fool. She just couldn’t stay away anymore. He wanted to catch her, huh? Well, she certainly wasn’t going to complain! “Watch!” she said, “See how good I’ve gotten!”

In his car, Kevin could see that she still retained the passion she had whenever she raced. It was almost overwhelming, racing her. It was so much fun. But…Kevin just couldn’t stay behind anymore. He was too upset at what he heard of her. It was time to remind her…just why she left the C1 in the first place! He pressed down on the accelerator and passed her on the right with such ease that she might as well have been going the speed limit.

As they came up on the C1 entrances, Kevin took the right entrance, leading to the Inner Loop. Haruhi had no choice but to follow. She grimaced. She hadn’t been here in so long. She suddenly realized…she was totally going to suck his exhaust fumes! She gritted her teeth again. “Dammit! This is his home! He practically lives here! I can’t keep up with him now!” But being the Haruhi that she was, she made an attempt at it anyway. But the fact of the matter was that the C1 was completely different from the Shinkanjo. There was only one part of the C1 that she was used to…but they bypassed it when they entered the circuit. She felt that it would be her only chance…but he’d have lost her far before then.

Not wanting to waste any more energy chasing the unchaseable Z, she let up on the accelerator and reluctantly allowed him to escape, eyeing the red S30 with a look of affection and respect. “He hasn’t changed at all.”

Before she knew it, she found herself parking at the old parking lot where she, Kevin, Rusty, and all of the other famous C1 racers used to hang out. Sure enough, Kevin was there, parked in his usual spot near the soda machines. For a split second she felt as though her heart suddenly seized up. Would he be upset with her for being gone for so long without attempting to contact him? Well, she already entered the parking lot, so she might as well take the chance. She parked four spaced away from him, turned off her car, and stared at the dark dashboard.

She felt like she did the first time she found him here. She just couldn’t bring herself to get out of the car. But she felt that she had to. No…she wanted to. She wanted to so badly that she just did it. She opened up the door and stood up. She’d walk on her on two feet. It was all she could do. She’d be strong. No matter how cold he was to her, she’d be strong. She’d take whatever remark he threw at her.

She was wearing a nice, grayish-black office outfit, with a skirt that stopped an inch under her knees, and a jacket that went over a white button-up shirt. She was even wearing a little eye shadow and pink lipstick. He’d probably make fun of how nice she looked or something…oh well. She decided to start a conversation somehow as she walked over shyly. “You know…drinking all of that soda…it can’t be good for you. But at least it’s not alcohol.” He looked up at her with an emotionless expression, and she smiled sweetly.

He silently looked away, and Haruhi started to panic inside of her head. His silence certainly wasn’t a good sign. Was he upset with her? This wasn’t good! What should she do?! She desperately wanted to say something, and came up with, “I…I’m…sorry I never contacted you or anything…I…was just so busy…and I guess I kind of felt that you didn’t want to be bothered or something…I don’t know…I’m sorry…”

Kevin finally spoke up. “I talked to Zero. He told me…he…told me…you didn’t care about me anymore. Well…more, he said I was nothing to you anymore. I guess he meant racing-wise…” Haruhi seemed extremely shocked by this, however. “Wh…NEVER! No no no! I’d never…I’d NEVER! It’s just some stupid rumor that must’ve been going around…someone twisting up my words! I said…I said that I didn’t want to race you…that I didn’t plan on racing you anymore…because you were obviously better than I was, and you still are…I never ever said you don’t mean anything to me anymore! Just that…you weren’t what I was thinking about at the time. I was trying to focus all my attention on getting better.”

She looked a little calmer as she finally saw Kevin’s face show a bit of emotion again. “You’ll never mean nothing to me, Kevin,” she said, blushing. “I love you.” The way she said it was enough to make Kevin blush. He knew it. She wouldn’t have just left him like that. For the first time in seven years, he smiled again. Haruhi. He finally realized…

He truly loved her too.

And that thought made him blush even more. He had never blushed so much in his entire life. But it felt…good. It was the good kind of blush. It was hard to explain exactly how it felt. “So,” he finally said, “are you going back?” Haruhi was silent for a moment before finally perking up, saying, “Well…I could always move back in with you!”

As much as Kevin would have loved that, he felt that seeing as they had an affection for each other now, living together probably wasn’t the best idea. But then he had an idea. He just remembered something that wasn’t really all that important…until now. But before he mentioned it, he just had to know something. “Actually, I think I have a better idea than us living together again,” he said, making Haruhi ponder just what could be better than living with Kevin again. “But…first, I need to know. Zero said…you were an untouchable now. Is…is that true? You’re part of their team now?”

At hearing this, Haruhi looked as though she was trying to hold in a giggle. “Oh, no, not exactly. See…people are saying that because…well…I defeated all of the untouchables.”

I like how the romance between Kevin and Haruhi is written. It's an important part of the story, but it doesn't hold any more importance than the main plot itself, and isn't the annoying kind of rom- Woah! Haruhi's not just an untouchable! She defeated the untouchables! I'm interested in seeing where she goes from here.

Excuse me for the caps lock, but MOAR PLZ!

Haha, okay. Here's MOAR!

---------------------------------------

Act 8 – The One Thing Wangan Runners Fear

Kevin eyed Haruhi with even more interest. He looked straight into her calculating eyes. He could see an alarming amount of strength in her spirit that wasn’t there the last time they saw each other, seven years ago. Back then she was weak; struggling. But now…now, she was like his equal. She was strong. He could tell, not only by the strength he felt in her eyes, but by how casually she admitted her victory over an immensely popular highway team. The old Haruhi would have been jumping for joy…but this Haruhi…she was…different. Though she looked calm…there was no mistaking it…looking into her eyes, Kevin saw…

There was an intensity about her.

And because of it, he was falling madly in love with her. She may have failed in becoming a better racer than he was during her absence…but in the end she succeeded in becoming the woman of his dreams! He didn’t even think that was possible! He didn’t even know he had an ideal woman! He had never even thought about what kind of women turned him on…mainly because none of them ever did. But…this girl…Haruhi…it was almost as though she stood right there and defined what he looked for in a woman right there in front of him.

“You…defeated them. Huh…” Kevin did his best to act uninterested, but he sort of wanted to know just how she ended up accomplishing such a feat. And…more importantly…why no one ever announced it. Haruhi glanced down at the ground sheepishly and blushed, realizing that she might have actually…impressed Kevin. “Erm…” Kevin stood up, crushing the Coca-Cola can in his hand and tossing it in the trash can nearby. “Quite a feat that must’ve been. Must have taken a while.”

Haruhi looked at him as she tried to explain exactly how she felt about the battles. “It was…so strange. I thought they would be hard, but…with every single one of them, the longer the race went on, the easier it seemed to become! I still don’t understand it…but I’ve learned a lot from my past experiences, and I’m ready to learn more!”

Without even hearing anymore of the story, Kevin knew what had probably blown the untouchables away, especially if it was Haruhi. Haruhi has a special gift to where she learns her opponent’s way of driving, unconsciously finds a weakness in the way they drive, and comes up with her own special way of defeating them when they finally screw up. The longer you drive ahead of her, the more you struggle. The longer the battle goes on…the harder it becomes.

Because Haruhi is the one thing all Wangan runners fear.

On the Wangan, there’s no finish line. There isn’t really anything to end the race-in-progress. The race ends when one person either crashes, pulls away, or gives up. With Haruhi, however, it’s difficult. She has obviously gotten to the point where she never crashes, and she never lets her opponent out of her sight. And she never gives up.

Haruhi is the one thing all Wangan runners fear: a tough opponent that never gives up! The only thing that will stop Haruhi now is an empty gas tank! She won’t leave you alone until she’s out in front and leaving you far behind! She has an amazing amount of determination, unwavering spirit, and an absolutely incredible amount of stamina. A race with Haruhi could go on forever!

Haruhi interrupted his thoughts. “Anyway, what was it that you said about having a better idea or something?” Kevin’s eyes went wide with surprise at the sudden change of subject, and quickly attempted to remember what it was he was thinking. “Oh…oh yeah…one of my new neighbors moved out. His house is scheduled for demolition soon, but if you gather up all of your stuff from wherever you’re currently staying, if you hurry, you may just be able to save the house and make yourself my new neighbor.”

Haruhi was immediately thrilled at the idea, her face aglow with glee as she nodded quickly and ran to her FD, tires screeching as she peeled out of the parking lot as fast as she could. Kevin rolled his eyes at Haruhi’s predictable behavior. Looks like he was getting a new neighbor after all.

The next morning, a knock came at Kevin’s door. He opened it to find Haruhi standing there in the same suit she was in the night before. “Haruhi? What is it?” Haruhi didn’t seem too happy as she pointed out her problem. “I think…I was too late…” Kevin glanced outside to see that his house was now the only house for miles. “Oh…” He looked back at Haruhi to see her mouth curling up into a smile. He hoped she wasn’t thinking any nasty thoughts. “Okay…fine…but just remember to pay for all of your stuff and all. And I think I should charge you rent this time…”

Haruhi argued with, “I’m sleeping on your couch! What kind of person charges for that?!”

Haruhi. The one all Wangan runners fear. . Her driving's really improved, and she's also showing signs of character development.

And now the two are back under the same roof again. How was it that I didn't expect that? tongue.gif

Act 9 – The Crimson Devil

The weekend. Kevin’s windows were slightly cracked open, allowing the breeze to gently blow through the living room. The wind chime outside jingled a soft, soothing tune as Haruhi laid on the couch, sleeping peacefully. She had of course washed all of her make-up off, and now looked just like she used to. She was wearing an extra-extra large shirt, her hair was all messy…but Kevin wasn’t complaining this time.

Well…maybe she could have gotten herself a decent set of pajamas…but other than that, Kevin was just fine with Haruhi looking however she wanted. After all, she was asleep. You’re not exactly supposed to dress up for it or anything. But when sleeping on someone’s couch, you may want to take precautionary measures. Wearing nothing but a really big shirt and panties wasn’t exactly the best idea…but then again, now that Kevin thought about it…maybe she was doing it on purpose. But she didn’t come off as the seductive type. Kevin figured she probably just wanted him to check her out or something.

Kevin sighed as he sat curled up in his recliner, secretly watching over her. He couldn’t sleep again. He didn’t want to tell Haruhi though. But he knew that as soon as she woke up, she’d probably figure it out. Until then…he’d continue to sit there, just watching.

Meanwhile, Haley got up early and sneaked out to the parking lot of the hotel they stayed at. The orange Z32 that Ali had mysteriously become interested in and bought sat quietly. Haley didn’t like the car at all. And not just because it was a street racing car.

There was something about it. Something ominous. Something wrong. Ali completely changed when she set eyes on it. And not like most people would change when they saw a car that caught their attention. Ali wasn’t herself anymore at all. There was a look in her eyes now…a look that Haley had never seen before. It was frightening. Something was extremely wrong.

Suddenly, Ali was standing there next to her, startling her. “Isn’t it handsome?” Ali walked over to it and opened the driver side door, getting in and putting a hand on the steering wheel. Haley gulped and cautiously walked over. “N-not…really. I think it looks…well…rather ridiculous, really. Ali…why did you buy this stupid thing? What’s going on with you? You’re starting to scare me.” Ali simply smirked and replied, “You’ll never understand, Haley. Just forget about it. Forget about me. We both have our own lives to live.”

Haley was beginning to get frustrated again. This wasn’t Ali. It couldn’t be. “How can you say something like that?” Suddenly, she walked to the front of the car and looked into its headlights…and felt as though she was being stared down. She gathered up her courage and said to the car, “I know you have something to do with this, dammit. And I’m going to find out exactly what it is. Mark…my…words.” With that, she walked off, leaving Ali and the mysterious Z32 alone.

That night on the Wangan, Haruhi cruised the C1 Inner Loop, reacquainting herself with the road. She was so happy. She was finally near Kevin again…living with him, even. Nothing could possibly put a damper on her mood. Not only that, but she was quickly getting her rhythm back for running the C1. Soon, she’d defeat everyone here too. It was her goal to be worthy in Kevin’s eyes as an opponent.

As she rounded a left corner, she heard something behind her. As she roared onto the straightaway, she looked in her mirrors, and sure enough, a car was coming up on her, and fast. She let up on the accelerator and allowed it to safely pass. It was an orange Z32 with a menacing body kit. The car seemed to give off a powerful aura. She had never seen it before, though. She wondered who drove it.

In the Z32, Ali silently maneuvered her car on the highway. It was so easy. So simple. She wasn’t even thinking about it. And it was actually…fun. Enjoyable. Were these really her feelings? She flawlessly drove the Z32 through the corners and traffic at amazing speeds. It was only her first time driving on the Wangan, but she was already so skilled!

As she drove on, it started to seem as though she was looking for something. Haley sat in the passenger seat, cringing in horror every time they came close to a pedestrian car or came up on a corner. This…this wasn’t Ali. It couldn’t be. This…this proved that what Haley had thought before was true. As crazy and stupid as it may sound…as unrealistic and fantasy-ish as it may have seemed…this Z32 had possessed her friend. Ali wasn’t driving the car. The car was driving Ali.

“What the hell is this thing?” Haley thought out loud. The g-forces slammed her into the door as they took a right turn at 127kmph. It was worse than that one ride at the carnival! This was insane! But no matter how much she pleaded Ali to slow down, it never happened; she was simply ignored.

As they came out of a tunnel, there was a loud engine sound behind them. Like a high-pitched roar. And it was coming up fast, even at the speeds they were going! Before they knew it, it was overtaking them! Time seemed to slow down as the super-fast car passed them on the right. It was a blood red BNR34 with something that looked like a metal raptor feather on the roof. On the hood was a large, strange yellow symbol that looked somewhat like a shooting star combined with a “shooting crescent moon.” Very thin, yellow arrows lined the car’s fenders, and there was a number written in yellow on it too, but it was going so fast that they could hardly make it out.

Ali’s eyes opened wide, eyeing the GT-R with bloodlust. “The crimson devil…Raven Blood.” With that, the red GT-R blasted off at an incredible speed, leaving them far behind in an instant. The Z32 sped up, attempting to catch the demonic car, but to no avail. It was long gone. Haley’s eyes were wide with shock. “W-what the heck was that?!” Ali, however, simply looked out into the darkness ahead with a poker face. You could tell, just by looking in her eyes: this wasn’t over. But was it Ali that wanted revenge? Or the Z?

Nice descriptions yet again. The little details about Kevin's house in the morning formed a pretty good image of it in my mind.

Haruhi must really like that shirt laugh.gif

Yep, that's a haunted Z, and Ali seems to have something to do with it since she's the one that got possessed by it. What does that GT-R have to do with this anyway?

MOAR!

---------------------------

Act 10 – Nightmares

8:30 at night on the C1 Inner Circuit. In a light yellow Honda Odyssey, Haruhi began to doze off in her car seat as her dad drove home, with her mom in the passenger seat. They seemed to be joking about something, as they were laughing. Haruhi couldn’t hear though, and even if she could, she wouldn’t have understood a word.

In the background, tires could be heard screeching and engines could be heard revving. Suddenly, out of a the left turn that Haruhi’s parents just left, a Skyline R32 came roaring, its rear sliding. It had lost grip going around the corner too fast. Chasing it was a black Porsche 930 with a special body kit. The Skyline was quickly sliding towards the van, waking Haruhi up and startling her. The loud screeching and menacing roar scared her so much that tears began to well up in her eyes.

Her mother gasped in horror and her dad attempted to drive the van out of the way, but he had reacted a moment too slowly. The Skyline slammed into the rear left fender of the van, pushing it towards the wall. The rear tires lost grip, however, and the van began to do a spin, sliding into the left lane. It had almost completed a complete 360-degree spin when a huge truck honked its loud horn, unable to stop in time as it plowed into the rear right fender of the van, sending it spinning the other way. Haruhi lost consciousness as soon as the truck hit, seeing as she was on the right side of the van.

Haruhi’s eyes bolted open. Her heart was beating quickly, her head throbbing. Her breathing was normal, however. She took a deep breath, and as she let it out, she realized that she was shaking slightly. Of course she was. She had a nightmare…but it wasn’t just any nightmare. It was her past. It was the last time she had ever seen her parents. She swallowed, holding on to that dream. Just that short time that she saw her parents, laughing and having a good time. She held on to that part of the dream, playing it over and over in her head.

It was the only memory she ever had of her parents. The only one she was able to remember, anyway. She remembered hearing from her uncle that on that night, they were actually taking Haruhi home for the first time since the hospital. She was hardly a month old when it happened. Ever since then, she had hated cars and racers. At least, for a while. She can’t remember exactly what got her into racing. She did know what convinced her to stay. Him.

So ironic…the kind of people she hated turned out to be the people who would help her the most in the end. They gave her something to live for. They gave her something to chase after. They sympathized with her. And…maybe she sympathized with them as well. Now that she had matured, she understood what happened that night and that it was a complete and total accident. She knew what kind of things happened out on the Wangan now. The driver of that Skyline was most likely just as scared when he lost control and just as upset that he killed someone.

And the opponent he was going up against…there was no doubt that it was Zero. There was no one else driving a black Porsche 930 with that body kit that she knew. And he was still driving too. That was…what? 26 years ago? Suddenly, she blushed. She was that old already?! Geez…not so long ago she was a teenager. When did she get so old so fast?

Soon…she’d have to stop racing. She was getting too old for it. Well…that’s how she felt, anyway. Zero was who knows how old, and he was still doing it in his free time. She wondered when he’d retire.

Then, she began to wonder…what was it like that one night from his point of view? Did he stop and try to help? Did he see her parents? Did he see her? She wondered just who rescued her from that wreck…

She didn’t want to go back to sleep. She really couldn’t anyway. She decided to just go ahead and watch some television. She had become quite fluent in Japanese by now anyway.

Back at Ali and Haley’s apartment, Haley searched through a phonebook for the number of a man she had heard of while asking around about the mysterious Z32 that Ali bought. It seems that this man was the previous owner of the car. Haley was determined to get some answers. She wanted her friend back, dammit!

Finally, she found his name, and wrote down his number and address. “Yes. You’re going down, you stupid car.” She closed the book and put down her pen. It was too late at night to call at the moment. She’d wait until the next day. She quietly peeked over to look at Ali, asleep on one of the two beds sitting side-by-side. “Don’t worry, Ali,” Haley whispered, “I’m going to get you out of this mess.”

Act 11 – The Satan Z

The next morning, Haley got up early and snuck out of the hotel, calling a taxi to take her to the address she had written down on the paper that she held on tightly to. She had already called beforehand to warn the man that she was coming. Soon, the taxicab arrived at the destination. It was a small house with sliding doors. She knocked on the door three times and waited.

The environment around the house was very peaceful. It was located in Osaka. This happened to be one of Haley’s favorite places in Japan. She was so excited to be here…but sadly, she was here on serious business. Pretty soon, she heard muffled footsteps inside the house, approaching the doors. As they slid open, Haley realized she was holding her breath for some reason. She slowly let it out and bowed to show respect to the man.

He chuckled and gestured her to come inside. “Please, come in.” Haley nodded and cautiously entered the house and followed the man into his small dining area. “So…you are the one with the doomed friend.” At hearing that, Haley’s heart sank. That didn’t exactly sound too great to her. The man closed his eyes and sighed. “Unfortunately, even though you came here for help…I’m afraid I can’t really help you, per se. However, I can tell you what’s going on exactly. Maybe you can figure something out then.”

He gestured her towards a chair. “Please. Sit down, young lady. And listen well.” Haley sat down and put her hands in her lap. The man also sat down, and folded his hands together and rested them on the table. “Now…I, of course, am not the original owner of that car. But…I know quite a bit about it. It talks to the driver. Literally. Through your mind.”

Haley felt uneasy hearing this, but had no choice to believe every word of it. The man continued. “Unfortunately, and as you might have already noticed…your friend has been possessed. Although she’s still there, she’s absolutely helpless right now. The car has completely taken over her. When you talk to her, you’re really just talking to the car. So any attempt to make contact with your friend will be met with failure.” Haley’s hands began to shake. This was all her fault. If she hadn’t convinced Ali to look for a new car, none of this would have happened.

The man looked at her seriously. “Listen…don’t lose faith. I believe that you can still save her. But in order to do that…you must first understand the car. And understand why it is doing this.” Haley listened intently. This was like a stupid fairy tale or something. Like something out of a video game. But she had to listen. She had to save Ali.

“The car is a Nissan 300ZX Z32 possessed by a vengeful racing spirit. The car has always been known by the racing community as the ‘Satan Z.’” The name ran a chill down Haley’s spine. The Satan Z? The man continued. “There is another car…the demon of the highways…and the Satan Z seems to have an eternal rivalry with it. However, the other car is far superior to the Z…perhaps you already saw it?” Haley cringed and shook her head. “I have no idea, to tell you the truth.”

The man smirked. “If the Z had traveled the highways of Tokyo recently, it’s most likely that you have. It’s a blood red Skyline with an unreal amount of power. Raven Blood.” Then Haley remembered…that red GT-R that blew past them at a blinding speed that one night. There was no way anyone in their right minds would attempt to chase something that went that fast! The man said, “Raven Blood is a mystery if I ever knew one. Some say that during the day, it hides out in the last place anyone would look for a high-performance demon car: a junkyard. It has no driver. It’s said that it rejected so many drivers, believing them unworthy, that it decided to drive itself instead, planning to prove that no one is better than it is at driving.”

Haley frowned. That was a fairy tale if she ever heard one. But whatever. The man continued the story. “As the story goes…the original owner of that Z32 heard the rumors of the blood red R34, and how it believed itself to be better than a car with a human driver no matter what. He wanted to prove it wrong. It was insulting race car drivers everywhere. He raced it one night, and…needless to say, he never proved his point. It was also the last night he ever raced.”

Haley gulped. It was obvious what that meant. The man then said, “But the car…the car lived on. I guess somehow the car either got a heart or took in the spirit of its dead driver, but…from then on it was a sworn rival of Raven Blood, which was pretty much like a racing death wish. A disaster just waiting to happen. Until it defeats Raven Blood once and for all, that car will continue to possess those who come into contact with it. Those it deems worthy. You see? It could drive itself if it wanted to…but then it wouldn’t be proving its owner’s point, now would it? So it finds its own drivers and recruits them.”

Haley understood…but it still didn’t make sense that a car would even have a spirit in the first place. But then again…maybe there really is such a thing as ghosts. Haley looked down at her hands and thought. So…Ali had to defeat that GT-R…damn…

Haley stood up and bowed again. “Thank you very much for all of your help!” The man nodded, said, “Good luck to you both,” and with that, Haley left.

Haley didn’t know how she’d help Ali now. She couldn’t even talk to her. She wasn’t there. But wait…if it was the car that was controlling Ali now…maybe she could talk to the car instead!

Meanwhile, out on the highway, Rusty drove his icy blue GT-R, Frostbite, very carefully. He was becoming a bit paranoid. He knew that if he crashed again, Ayaka would leave him. He really didn’t want that. He really didn’t. But he knew…he’d have to go faster than this! He couldn’t play it this safe forever! Sooner or later, someone was going to challenge him! And he had to be able to race them with the utmost confidence. He frowned and pressed down harder on the accelerator.

The GT-R roared as the revs rose. All four wheels worked in unison to push and pull the car at the same time, and the car accelerated, going faster and faster. A left corner came up quick, but Rusty was ready for it. He let up on the accelerator and turned in a second early, allowing the car to slide slightly outward, coming onto the straightaway flawlessly. He pushed down on the accelerator again, and the car gently lurched forward, gaining speed again.

Ayaka was such a great tuner. The cars she tuned for him always seemed so smooth. Although really, he figured that he should probably learn how to tune as well. Maybe someday he’d be able to improve on Ayaka’s work and make his car even better than it already was!

He turned to the left to dodge a van in his lane, then let up on the accelerator as he went through a couple of turns, anticipating any traffic that might get in his way at the last second. By now, he completely understood the flow of traffic on the Wangan, but that was exactly why he was so cautious. Anything could happen before you knew it. You’d get a rhythm going, and suddenly there’s a car in your way as you’re halfway through a turn. Even a section of the highway that you know like the back of your hand can be dangerous if you don’t pay attention.

He wasn’t going all out at the moment, but he knew he wasn’t going slow by any means. So…why was there a car catching up from behind? What looked like a pair of bright, LED-blue headlights and the sound of a high-pitched roar quickly approached from behind and was right on his rear bumper before he knew it. He recognized the sound, but it was slightly different from a normal R34. It was far more aggressive than a regular R34 racing engine. He could definitely tell. Who was this guy?

Rusty’s eyes narrowed. “You think you can take on Frostbite? Fool…bring it on. I’m no pushover.” He pressed further down on the accelerator, urging his GT-R to go faster, which it did with no difficulty whatsoever. But the opponent was right on his tail. It was obvious that the opponent had more power than he did. But…power wasn’t everything. Rusty drifted through a 90-degree turn with ease. “Let’s see what you’ve got!”

As they came out onto the straightaway, Rusty couldn’t believe it. Even without drifting, his opponent managed to stay right on him through the turn! This guy was good. Rusty gritted his teeth and tightened his grip on the steering wheel. “Good,” he said. “A challenge.”

Sadly, though…Rusty was way in over his head.

If that R34 is Raven Blood... then Rusty's toast. I hope not. Then he & Ayaka have to break up. I hope not. Would Haley make things better with Ali and the Satan Z? I hope... NOT! Kidding. I hope she does.
