Initial D World - Frequently Asked Questions
Tips: If you wish to read the *spoilers*, highlight the text after the word "*spoiler*" and the spoiler will be shown.
  • How many series are there, and how many episodes does each series have?
» There are currently six series, called "stages." They are in this order:
First Stage: 26 Episodes (TV Series)
    Second Stage: 13 Episodes (OVA)
    Extra Stage: 2 Episodes (OVA)
    Third Stage: 1 Movie (Film)
    Battle Stage: 1 Movie (Special)
Fourth Stage: 24 Episodes (TV Series)

  • When is 5th Stage coming out?
» We don't know. OB Planning has not as of yet made any announcements about a new series for Initial D. However, the manga is ongoing, so we can only assume that given time there will be a Fifth Stage.

  • Where can I find 4th Stage?
» 4th Stage is currently unlicensed and can be found on P2P programs such as Kazaa, on MIRC and on bittorrent sites. Check out this thread for more information. https://idforums.net/index.php?showtopic=4547

  • What is the order of the stages?
» 1st Stage (26 episodes), 2nd Stage (13 episodes), Extra Stage (2 episodes together, Impact Blue and Sentimental White), 3rd Stage (movie), Battle Stage (recap movie), 4th Stage (24 episodes)

  • What is your stance on Tokyopop?
» Initial D World does not support Tokyopop and its endeavors but we also do not discriminate against them. The general consensus on the board does not reflect the standpoint of the website and forums.

  • I hear FUNimation got the rights to Initial D. Is it being re-done?
» No, it is not being re-done. FUNimation merely got the distribution rights--they are just re-packaging and re-selling what TokyoPop already produced, no changes.

  • I've heard of Project.D, what is it?
» Project D is also known as 4th stage. However, *spoiler* Project.D is also known as Ryousuke's new racing team in 4th stage consists of himself, Keisuke and Takumi.

  • What does the D in Project.D or Initial D mean?
» We don't know. No one does. Anyone who says they do is just guessing and is not a reliable source of information (unless it's Shuichi Shigeno, in which case..). In 4th Stage, Ryosuke announced that there is definite meaning behind the 'D', but that he wouldn't say what it meant until the project was complete. As it's still not finished at the end of 4th Stage, we don't know.

  • Where can I get episodes of Initial D?
» You can either download the episodes using a peer-to-peer file sharing program such as Kazaa Lite K++, or edonkey. mIRC will most likely have episodes also. Be wary that you may get the Cantonese version of the anime. Another way is to buy the DVDs off jackadeal.com.

  • Where can I buy the DVDs?
» You can get the dvds off jackadeal.com. The prices on this site are very good and it's a real store so you know you will be getting high quality DVDs with english subtitles in the original Japanese voices. You can also walk into just about any store that sells Anime DVDs (Best Buy, Borders, FYE, etc.) and pick up the TokyoPop ones for 1st, 2nd and Extra Stage. They have excellent video quality, and include the original Japanese language track (with 5.1 Digital audio) and subtitles.

  • Where can I buy Initial D merchandise?
» For original Japanese Initial D stuff, ebay and import shops in your local area are your best bet. Due to Tokyopop's release of ID, more merchandise will be available soon.

  • What year is the Hachi-Roku?
» The Hachi-Roku was in production from 1983-1986. It is called the 86 not because of the year, but the chassis code. The chassis code is AE86. Takumi's is a 1983 model.

  • How much horsepower does the Hachi-Roku have?
» The Hachi-Roku is rated to be around 150HP with the stock 4-AG engine.

  • What is the name of Takumi's new engine and how much power does it have?
» The engine is still a 4AG. However, it comes from an AE101 and is from the Group A racing circuit. The suspected power output is 240hp@11,000rpm.

  • Do Bunta and Takumi ever race?
» Yes, Takumi and Bunta race in 4th stage, but Takumi doesn't know who he's racing with.

  • What are the teams in Initial D?
» Speedstars @ Akina, Redsuns @ Akagi, Night Kids @ Myogi, Impact Blue @ Usui, Emperor @ Irohazaka, Purple Shadow @ Ibaraki, Seven Star Leaf @ Momiji Line, Toudou Juku @ Happogahara.

  • Who races, but isn't on a team?
    » Takumi, Kai, Wataru.

  • Is Takumi part of the Speedstars?
» No; Takumi is not affiliated to any racing team until 4th stage where he joins Ryosuke in Project.D.

  • What is the order of Takumi's races?
    » FD3S, R32, EG6, Sileighty, S14, FC3S, EVO IV, EVO III, AE86 TURBO, EVO III(rematch), SW20, GT-4, FC3S (rematch; this last race was left unfinished), MX-5, EK-9, EK-9 (race prepped), WRX (an unofficial race), Altezza, Cappucino, EVO V, S2000.

  • What is written on the side of Takumi's Hachi-Roku?
» Fujiwara Tofu Shop (Private Use)

  • In different stages of initial D the AE86's name is different (ie, Trueno Toreno and Tureno) what is the correct spelling?
» Early in Initial D (anime) Shigeno Shuichi and the production team didn't have the full license to the name "Trueno." The correct spelling is "TRUENO" and that's how it is for the rest of the anime after he got the full license for the use of the name.

I know this is being knit picky, but I figured I'd post the info up.

The stock 4age engine was 130 HP. That's a pretty generous figure too, it's probably a bit lower on most engines.

That and I'd say Takumi's 2nd engine is probably based off an AE111 engine, not really significant since VVT is turned off. But basically it's a TRD Group A engine. Group A was a race series in Japan. All the part #s are listed in the TRD Levin/Trueno Bible.

My guess? That they didn't get the engine built locally, that an engine builder built the engine. A company like Toda Racing, or TRD. TRD Japan preps all the motors for Toyota's Japan race teams.

I don't think that's really important to the storyline though, if it was I'm sure the would have gone in to more detail about it.

Sorry for the double post.

Ok so i just want to say that the Second race (in Third Stage) against Ryousuke wasnt really a rematch. *spoiler* Im pretty sure that takumi just wanted to race with him just because he needed to make his decision about Project D. Dont think it was a rematch.

there are whole sections of the storyline that were removed from the TP DVD's because they were not appropriate for 10 year olds. THATS why they suck

You are going to waste even more money buying those TP dvds. When thy brought it over to North America to make money to they put out 3 episodes on each dvd.

yeah but to me its worth the extra since i dont have to wait for it to arrive i can go there buy it and leave with it not buy it and wait like a week or 2. if the Jack A deal though are the real versions not the edited. If its the unedited versions then its worth the money to me. If its edited i can go to the mall and get them.
