You never know, Shigeno could go back and do more Initial D if he wants to, I mean look at Tohru Fujisawa, he ended his Great Teacher Onizuka manga in 2002 then after working on other projects came back to it in 2009 for a 2 year stint and again this year back in April.

... clearly takumi gets an frs, and meets up with kiesuke on the street a few years later and they go at it for olds time sake. Since the frs has the insane weight and power balance tuning of the subaru drive train takumi practices on from using buntas 22b, well that plus his rear wheel love afair equals at LEAST one good OAV, imo ...

Loved the GT86 cameo. Loved how they showed what everyone was doing after their touge days. And it was cool how they didn't just kill off the blown AE86 like the manga did.

Solid stuff Can't wait for the upcoming movie!

True. This used to be a Toyota Hilux. It didn't end well for the two of them.

But yeah, personally, I think episode 4 was alright - well, when I say alright, I mean slightly above mediocre but hovering below decent. Had Shigeno made a quality episode, then I would reconsider. Until then, Episode 4 couldn't come fast enough to save Initial D, not that I blame the manga ending earlier than the Anime.

Lemme just cap on this by saying that yes, this is official art. Official Shigeno artwork. Not canon Initial D artwork. A lot of people tend to crop the art from what this piece was originally from: a 2012 Toyota brochure detailing the car's heritage.

It has nothing to do with Initial D outside of having Takumi in the seat. He did this for money, not as some sort of crazy foreshadowing that Takumi would actually drive one in the series.

They are racing though, not having a drift battle.

To add on Tessou's response, this was a promo effort by Toyota in February 2012 when the Toyota 86 was first introduced to the general public.

Here's a picture of Tetsuya Tada (Chief Engineer of Toyota) and Shuichi Shigeno. This man is incredibly low profile, so I don't know how much Toyota paid to get him to do a piece like this. (Likely in the millions)

It also bugs me that people just post the picture without realizing this was not canon Initial D artwork. It sort of became one of my pet peeves.

Why i get the feeling takumi just gave up on racing after this ending? I see keisuke did aim higher so he went pro anf stuff. Takumi just drives impreza now, only.delivering tofu or trying to learn that last one steering technique, i get the feel he gave up on getting better

Wow, whenever I saw that posted anywhere I assumed it was fan art, though Toyota paid him to do it (I doubt in the millions though) it's still pretty neat and explains the colour.

The only thing that really irked me was..

there was no interaction between Takumi and Shinji after the race. I know it was the same way in the manga. I just wish they would've added something.

Is anyone else having trouble grabbing episode 4 (480p)?

I only came across Initial D in like 2011-2012 so I only came across Initial D rather recently. Even though I hated 5th Stage and actually stopped watching it halfway through (did cave in and watch the FC v GTR race though) this final episode did get to me towards the end. I'm glad I came across this anime. I was never into racing or cars or Eurobeat or anything in that nature until I came across Initial D through Netflix. Although my car knowledge is still very limited (very VERY limited), Initial D still piqued my interest into that and racing to an extent.


Oh yeah, came across this site and all you guys too...so there's that as well.

Good bye Initial D. Even though I kinda showed up a little late to the party, I'm glad I was around to watch the show.

There's no indication he quit racing. He's still trying to improve and got the AE86 fixed. Maybe he's just not interested in anything else than street racing? Takumi's techniques or driving style wouldn't really work in a circuit-type of event or organized drift competition.

Just finished watching it five pages into the thread. Sue me, I was busy being AWESOME. Okay nah I was busy working and hanging out with peeps. Anyway I finally got around to it so here we go.

Wow. First things first, thank god Initial D is over. I'm so happy to finally see it end. I don't even care how it ended--the mere fact that it's over brings me unbelievable joy. Now before you think me some assholic cynic who doesn't belong anywhere near an Initial D board like this one, let me preface that by saying that I loved Initial D. I loved it a long time ago. I loved it when Shigeno loved it. Then...Shigeno started to lose his love. Or at least, his writing seemed to become stale. He didn't seem to have the 'spark' any more. The lackluster Anime adaptations beyond that point didn't help. So I am glad to see it end merely because I don't think there could have been any other future for the series. Shigeno was done. Avex was done. M.O.V.E. was done. All good things must come to and end, and we have finally reached that point for this show. The fandom will continue, our collective love of cars will continue, our obsession with swinging the tail out around corners will never die. However, the series will remain only as a glimmer in our minds, a piece of history that made us who we are. Without Initial D, there would be no Initial D World. Without Initial D, I would not be me and I would not know all of you. For that, I am eternally grateful. So enough sap. These last two episodes were probably the only parts of Fifth/Final I actually enjoyed just because we finally saw something cool happening. I mean okay, the part with Keisuke in the fog was awesome, but finally we see a kid who's not only on Takumi's level but also doesn't give a fuck about how clean his car is and goes for the line to win. I love it. Every time Shinji hit Takumi I was like OH SHIT! OH SHIT! It was awesome! But then you have this whole engine blow nonsense. First off, Takumi can't tell by ear how high he's revving? I'm sorry but all of us car guys worth their salt can drive without looking at the tach. Hell, neither my dad's Ford nor mine even have one. Now mine's an auto so I cheat, but his was a manual. I never missed it. You shift by ear. You can tell how high you're revving by sound and feel. So now we have Takumi, who was told to practice working with the top 2000 RPMs to see where he could use the extra shift space to his advantage totally going over. What? Why? That makes no sense. He's supposed to be an airheaded genius who just drives naturally, so why would he overrev just because he's not looking at the tach? Ridiculous. Next you have him overrevving by 1000-1500 RPMs and blowing his engine in mere seconds. Huh? The engine's tuned that ridiculously that going over a tad for that short a time will completely destroy it? I mean don't get me wrong, I know there are some really tightly-tuned engines that expect to be run in a small envelope, but that's ridiculous. Wouldn't you just start floating valves if you go over? I mean perhaps someone who's more into the 4A-GE can chime in here and school me but it just seems unrealistic that the engine catostrophically failed just because it was revved a tad high for a few seconds. Finally, the scene where Takumi looks at his immobile Trueno sitting in the side lot then hops into the WRX... ...IS THIS NTR!?
