Initial D World - Discussion Board / Forums > Version 3 General Discussion > Locations in San Diego

Hi there. I'm new to this forum and within the last few months started playing Initial D. I have been playing a beat up Initial D 2 at a bowling alley but was wondering if there was a place to play Initial D 3 or 4 anywhere in San Diego. Thanks!

Posted by: Jdmyo93 Aug 8 2010, 08:11 AM
Sick another Initial D player from SD smile.gif

Here are some locations that I know here in SD

Boomers, Clairemont
IDAS3
$12 to play all day only on Tuesday and Thursdays. From what I know the right acceleration pedal is sometimes a tad irritating sometimes.

Plaza Bonita Mall at Tilt
IDAS3
1st floor inside the mall, but the last time I was there (like 5 months ago), the machines werent working, but the IDAS3 here is probably the best machine to renew or get cards.

32nd Naval Base Bowling Alley
IDK if its still working, but both machines are down. You can probably check it out if there available (last time I was there was last year), but everytime I play before cards were always in stock smile.gif

Should hit me up on AIM, we maybe even get to play each other =), havent played Initial D in a while though

Sweet! Thanks alot! Does the one at boomers have a card system?

Posted by: Jdmyo93 Aug 9 2010, 06:07 PM
yes they do have a card system, but sadly you cant buy new cards or renew your plays in the Boomers initial d machines since they never refill it sleep.gif, so only use the cards you have.

You thinking of going there?

I might go there sometime this month or nex month.

Posted by: DavidM Aug 9 2010, 07:34 PM
Thats to bad they dont have cards. Can you use one if you already have one? But anyways ya I could use some one to race. Ill probably go to boomers this week but I could probably go next month too.

Plaza Bonita Tilt - last I heard they got the machines fixed (couple weeks ago).

32nd St Naval Base Bowling Alley - it's not ver3 anymore. I think it's ver1 now.

Other places that might have working machines:
Parkway Plaza Tilt - $1/play... last I went it was broken (months ago)
Mission Valley Tilt - $1/play. Both sides have wheel issues and minor screen issues, prints cards though.
El Cajon Boomers - on $12 days both sides couldn't read cards
Vista Boomers - same goes for El Cajon

You get any better DC2? I haven't played in forever.

Posted by: Jdmyo93 Aug 10 2010, 02:00 PM
Wait Coastal, the card readers at Clairemont Boomers are not working anymore? crying2.gif

A little, I havent played Initial D in like...forever though

EDIT:
and Ciannard (DudeBro521) doesnt play anymore

A little, I havent played Initial D in like...forever though, been lately trying to get back into it with some friends that dont know anything about cars haha

EDIT:

Read it again, I said El Cajon. I tried going to Clairemont a couple months back and the right side reader would always be messed up so the machine never started.

Yeah I don't care anymore to play seriously, it's nice every now and then to see if the technique is still there, but even then I get bored just watching.

Posted by: Jdmyo93 Aug 10 2010, 06:43 PM
me either well I never even was good but I dont play Initial D as I usually do before anymore. Been saving my money or spending on goin to shows lately

Posted by: DavidM Aug 12 2010, 01:22 PM
I played Initial D 3 today for the first time in Mission Valley. It gave me this lame un-official card so it was a let down but whatever.

Never been to that arcade, lol that sucks, reminds me of the one in the movie theater at Chula Vista Initial D Arcade where their was no card reader lol

Plaza Bonita and Clairemont Boomers is probably the best for IDAS3 that i know of in SD
BTW, where in SD do you live?

Posted by: DavidM Aug 12 2010, 09:39 PM
I live in PQ. I would love to go to Plaza Bonita to get a legit card but its like an hour away. The card I got didn't even say initial d.

Edit: Just to add, does your card look like these http://initiald.sega.jp/english/ac_ver03/card03.html ?
Mine doesn't.

lol i know what u mean like a blue card with a viper or a red card with a Corvette or a green card with a Ferrari F40 lol

They dont have those in stock anymore. Sega stop making those cards. But I did saw someone here in the forum who has a whole load of blank Initial D cards.

Posted by: DavidM Aug 14 2010, 09:17 AM
If you have a blank can you just put it in and it makes you a card so you don't have to buy one?

I think so, I never had a blank card and just put it in the machine before without a file in it...

I remember you from initial-d.com forum haha

Last I recall Edwards 18 no longer has it and Nickel City has ver2. I played at Mission a couple weeks back. Right side is bleh and I haven't played the left. Might stop by sometime soon to renew a card and make a MR-S for fun

yea i know right. but that was a long time ago i just play for fun. but lol might be interested in battling at Plaza Bonita if they still have a arcade there?

Posted by: CoastalmixX Dec 3 2010, 10:13 AM
Plaza still has an arcade and the machines are decent. Weekend afternoons are the best time to go there.

Posted by: TSAB Dec 4 2010, 02:08 AM
i'll try to find time to head over and play with a couple of my frds.

Posted by: dAMNKitty Dec 20 2010, 07:09 PM
Hey, I'm in San diego too, I go to boomers, & plaza bonita. It's alright, the scene isn't alive anymore, everyone quit, but I still play now & then, look out for me, I'm a short asian kid, I'm not so shabby but I suck compared to Nitsu, which is costalmixx, he set's alll the times in San diego, so I'm Alex smile.gif

Posted by: Jdmyo93 Dec 21 2010, 04:02 PM
Plaza's been dead as well almost any arcades in San Diego that have IDAS3 is dead.

Posted by: CoastalmixX Dec 22 2010, 10:08 AM
Haha yeah the scene is pretty dead but I assume it has a little bit of life for whenever school kids are on break (that includes college too). Been a while since I've seen you, Alex. Looks like you still play? haha

I haven't gone too much lately since it's the holiday season and people are doing last minute shopping. I'm not about to waste 5min looking for parking

It's all about SSF4 and Black Ops now. grin2.gif

Posted by: DatOneGuy Dec 28 2010, 11:56 AM
So can anyone put up the current locations of ANY IDS games in San Diego? I know they were put up before but I'm looking for an updated list

Posted by: Jdmyo93 Dec 28 2010, 12:35 PM
Plaza Bonita Tilt (first floor)
IDAS3 still there as well as cards

Clairemont Boomers
Still there, same shitty gas pedal at right machine

Mission Valley Tilt
Still there but left machine is kind of dark

Naval Base 32nd Bowling alley
Gone now...

In addition...

Chula Vista Mall - Tilt
$1, I think it reads cards. Right side might be messed up but I hear left is okay...

Regal Cinemas Rancho Del Rey 16
IDAS3 - not sure if it reads cards

Vista Boomers - not sure if it reads cards

El Cajon boomers - surprise: not sure if it reads cards.
Last I recall the right side wheel was crazy loose and left side was okay... it's been a while.

Nickel City - ver2 haha, doesn't read cards.

I still think Plaza has the best one, then Mission.

Posted by: dantect9a Jan 2 2011, 12:04 PM
dont forget the idv3 at parkway plaza tilt both machines work but the right screen is a bit dark and the wheel is a little off on the right side too but ohter then that its decent and usually has cards, your best bet is going to la to play ver 3,4,or 5 version 6 is already out but its not out here in the states.

Posted by: Ginji Jan 5 2011, 12:06 AM
Plaza Bonita, ID3 Ride side shifter is busted, Left is the way to go..

Trust me.

Also, Don't expect hyped up battles anymore. (Even before shifter broke).

Haha, it's just not fun anymore, It's fun teaching though.

hey kiddos. dont even bother playing anymore. there isnt one machine in san diego that's worth the time or money. even if it was manageable, Austin or myself would shit on your times. we dont play often, but it all comes back as soon as we sit down. the amount of resources and effort we've spent on this game... well, none of you guys could ever come close. weve spent more time playing V3 than anyone here... which is why no one can really compete with us. my advice? go play Version 5 in LA. its an even playing field. no one knows what the hell theyre doing, including me. or play SSF4. more fun, more competitive, less money wasted. wink2.gif

HAHA what up! *BROFIST*

I was wondering if/when you'd make another post on here. I defintely agree with all of it. The v3 scene is dead and everyone's moved onto bigger better things like life and SSF4. I've never played V5 nor do I intend to especially since SSF4 AE just came out. Definitely more fun and competitive AND less money wasted.

Why do I get the feeling you were drunk when you posted this? laugh.gif

But yes, SSF4 is where it's at people! I never considered playing V5 either, but after watching a few videos it looks like it could be fun, even though i wouldnt be able to read anything. Some of my friends know of a machine in LA and said its good... and there are SSF4 machines there too, so even better. haha

Round 1 mayne! I'm going there sunday. They have V5 and SSF AE... I didn't see anyone playing V5. I miiiight try it maybe.

@Coastal Oh you.

Two places I know that has V5 in LA is Japan Arcade in Little Tokyo, and Round 1. I'm still going to AI until the place closes, which is less than two weeks away.

I was all about the battles, so I still dabble in Max Tune 3DX+, but not nearly as much as the past.

Battles are boring. Back in the day it was better to compete at the world stage with TA's than with some kid next to you who could barely drive through Tsu without 10+ wall contacts. A win is a win, yeah, but it's just like "Congrats, you just beat a retard. Have a cookie."

I've never practiced at home. ID Special Stage is good for learning where turns are and basic lining. I don't think much transfers from that game to v3.

Most cost-effective way is to spend a day at Boomers with a wristband. Back in the day Brunswick Chula Vista had the game for 50c a play... that's how I practiced.

Oh man, people from Mira Mesa? I live there!
I know a few other people around who play Initial D, didn't think I'd find any people on here from there. Very cool stuff.
The machine at Mira Mesa is in alright condition: the left card reader is usually broken, and the alignment on the right is a bit off.
I'm on vacation for a bit, but I'll be back in a few days; I'll be getting a new card, so check for "EVOD" on the times soon smile.gif

But im a Mira Mesa racer currently holding 1st on Akina also known as "Sunz!"
The machines are in the greatest conditions ever. we just replaced them with new ones. the left side has alot more kickback so the wheel wobbles around alittle. and both card readers work. and u can also make cards i usualy go there every day after school

Its been such a long time I've played IDAS3. But are there still machines of this game in SD that are in good condition?

Besides Mira Mesa and Plaza Bonita...

I was bored, so I drove around San Diego last Saturday to find a machine.

Mira Mesa Bowling Alley has 2, but no cards have been refilled.
Tilit in Mission Valley is gone.
Boomers, left side is dead. Right side works, no cards either.

So I went to Parkway Plaza today and I bought the last card which wasn't even a real IDASv3 card. Anyways, I will be leveling and hopefully will try to break sometimes at the Mira Mesa Bowling Lanes.

The last time I played I got such a bad time on Akina DDH. 3"25" xxx laugh2.gif

I didn't realize I had a IDAS3 at my school. But sadly it doesn't have a card reader but it's kind of a good way to kill time for a bit or for just shits and giggles. lol

What car did you get Shigegaki?

86 haha, I had the fastest time at Mission Valley with a 3'01. But I wanna try to hit around 2'59.

That's fast, especially since it's stock. I think the best time that I ever did on Akina DDH was 3"17"xxx with a ZZW30. facepalm.gif

Anybody here still plays at Plaza Bonita?

I bought some blank official IDASv3 cards from a member on here, and tried to use them to make new cards. But they won't read for some reason. Do you have to use those stupid cards with random pictures on them now?

Sorry to revive an old thread but are the machines in the clairemont boomers in pristine condition as of right now?

And cjb, I think we have to ask the store attendant to insert the card in first. I tried putting my card in too and it didn't work. ;(

I asked them but they wouldn't. It's just a bunch of kids that work there. And those cabs are crap, the wheels are all wobbly. This is why I go to LA now to play the new version. After SD lost GTA by SDSU. The scene died out.

Well, no more IDAS3 for me then. rolleyes.gif
I went to Boomers last night with a friend and we asked the workers to put our official blank ID3 cards. Although one of them did but the card reader kept on getting jammed.

Well I played at Boomers for 5 minutes the other day when I took my fiancee to play minigolf. I finally got down to 3'04'0xx which I know isn't even good, trying to figure out how to get back down to 3'01 before I stopped playing V3. Anyways, I am trying to find someone who sells those fake V3 cards because my real ones don't work on the machines I usually play at. Mira Mesa Bowling Lanes and Boomers.
