Group: FORUM MODERATOR Posts: 9,272 Member No.: 30,193 Joined: Jul 25th 2008 Location: Plymouth, MN | Let's see, 90lbs from the front of my car to fight the understeer... or keep it to do something my epically powerful heater can do at the cost of a little comfort. Oh, wait, that's right, my AC didn't work when I bought the car, the belt was off, the belt tensioner had broken off the block, and it needed a recharge. I've driven in some pretty bad rainstorms, and not had any problems to speak of. It's a non-issue, take it out. The delete helps more than it hurts. |

Haha, true. Though when AC is pretty much the only comfort amenity the car came with, it's not really that bad. You say additional bit, though... Have you ever felt the difference in handling from dropping weight from the front ? It's crazy noticeable. My car was 59/41 weight distribution when I picked it up, with an AC delete and the upcoming battery relocation, it should be somewhere around 57/43 street configured. X configured, it'll still be 59/41, but that's because I gut the rear end. Helps it get loose.

So as long as I leave in the heater, I still have defrost? I'd definitely like to get rid of my cruise control, on my car it's on the bottom of the steering wheel shaft so I can't have the steering wheel down as far as I'd like otherwise it'd hit my leg. |

The A/C is turned on when you want defrost to dry out the air. You'll still be sending air up there with the heater, it'll just be more moist air causing the windshield to fog up most likely.

Screw that. I hate not having AC in the GTR. I didn't have AC in the FC either. My Miata had AC, and i laughed at all the jokers who did not have AC. I want my AC back, and windows don't cut it in hot ass so cal weather. I hate walking out of my car with sweat on the back of my shirts. So guys, keep your AC. If you can't go faster with your AC, something else is wrong. This post has been edited by BmwNeoType on Nov 16 2008, 02:55 PM

It's just out of refrigerant and I don't have the correct hose attachment to fit the car for a DIY recharge. |

So far, I only have gripes with not having A/C when I had to drive to Palmdale during summer. |

Has nothing to do with AC. AC consists of your condenser (not too heavy), receiver drier (very light) and your compressor (very heavy). Your blower can defog your windows just fine. I did a write up on AC removal a while back. I'm too lazy to search so it's up to you. This post has been edited by flohtingPoint on Dec 17 2008, 07:43 AM

NZ is humid...in winter the cold fogs your sh!t up. In summer, the heat fogs your sh!t up. Heater does the job in winter...let the car idle a bit to get the water up to temp, and voila. In summer, once you've finished running through the rain to get in, your soggy self makes everything cloud up. So wind the windows down and enjoy some summer air! Provided it's not raining ><;; You can survive without the AC should you decide to or be forced into doing so. Still, after three years, I STILL want to get regassed...just...can't be arsed |

You explain to her that you race your car and that removing the A/C makes it handle better. If she can't except that as a reasonable explanation, she's not worth your time.

That's not entirely correct. I have an interest in girls who can accept the fact that my car is a serious hobby, and is okay with two things: 1) Sacrificing comfort for speed in my car, and being willing to go places in it, as opposed to arguing that her car has A/C so we should take it instead. 2) Can deal with me spending more time in the garage than with her on the weekends, should the need arise. If they can't accept those two things, it won't work, period.

/IDW/ Zero Fighter Pilot Group: Advanced Members Posts: 3,248 Member No.: 20,861 Joined: Oct 10th 2006 Location: Auckland, NZ | Before anyone says such a girl doesn't exist... 1) The AC in both my cars is fried 2) I never use it anyway, since it makes the car go slooooooow 3) Cars get more attention than boys on my driveway We're rare, but we exist. To the point that guys are like 'Damnit, spend some time with me!' while we're busy cleaning the dashboard or changing the oil XD Another point about AC: Changing from hot to cold, to hot to cold all day every day during the summer is a prime way of making yourself sick. Your body can't keep up with the changes (as we weren't designed originally for air conditioning...this is why we sweat!), and becomes vulnerable to colds and flu. This isn't to say you WILL get sick (especially if your immune system is like mine... BORG NANOPROBES!) but the chances of you coughing and sneezing through your summer are higher. (There, we have another reason to remove it XD) If you're a big car buff and you score a hot summer date...she ought to be the kind that says 'It's freaking hot in here...find some mountains and DRIVE FASTER!' |
