Initial D World - Discussion Board / Forums > Version 3 General Discussion > Card reader error solution :)

The ONLY solution so far for this problem:

Ok, everyone here at one point has had their share of cards eaten by the card reader either at transfer, renewal, or purchase. Well, after my share of experiences at a number of arcades, this solution has always saved my ass, so I thought I'd share it with you guys. This has only been tested and successfuly approved with transfering, renewing and purchasing of cards, I'll use Inspection for the example since this is the time it most often comes up.

Ok so you sit down to what you think is your normal play of initial D, and you put your card in, well little do you know it's inspection time! So you go about what you normally do here and put your coins in for your new card, the machine then spits out your invalid and you wait...........and wait.............and wait...............*looks at watch*.......then you start thinking oh shit, what if it eats it since it's taking too long? Now comes the worse part, you see the " Card reader error, please call attendant and reset the machine" screen and you freak out! This is the part where people give up, well, instead of giving up hope and shutting off the machine and killing your card that you put soooo much money into..(this is going to be long so get ready).....Talk to the arcade attendant, ask for the person with the keys to the machine if it's not that particular arcade attendant, and ask them to please open the card reader/writer. Now here are the steps:

1. Get them to open the card reader/writer for you

2. Now you must lift up the gold plate that sits above the card that's being written on. There is a little latch to lift this plate right in front of it nearest to you, it's a staight metallic bar with a piece of plastic over it, about half the size of your pinky.

3. Now, once you have the gold plate up, you should be able to see the new card that's supposed to be written on, take that card out of the card reader doesn't have to be cautious because this card hasn't been written on and won't be written on at all.

4. Once the card is out, shut the gold plate back the way it was BUT make sure it clicks to make sure it's completely shut.

5. Close the card reader back up and press the start/view change buttons.

You should now see the "Please remove your card, this card can no longer be used" screen but it won't give you another invalid. Wait from 5 to 10 seconds and you're good to go.

The reason for this is still a mystery to me, but I'm guessing that when the new card is inserted, the sensor for the card reader/writer that detects when the card's been inserted doesn't read it, therefore can't write on it. Please, if you ever have this problem take my advice and use this information, it's the only chance you have of saving your card, DONT TURN OFF THE MACHINE. I've used this over and over to save other peoples, and my own cards, and it's been done at numerous arcades, so I know that it's not JUST the machines in my area, these are arcades all over so cal and some in santa maria. But please, use this information to your advantage, I mean, with this error already in progress, what else do you have to lose? blink.gif Thanks for your time and I hope this works for you the way it does for me, because without it, I would have quit a loooooooonnnnnngggg time ago.

Wish we could open up the card reader at our arcade ermm2.gif

Our mechanic doesnt trust the workers with the key. then again neither would I since our arcade is at a bowling alley.

one guy lost all his data last nite. it was so sad. crying2.gif
we kept the machine on to see if the guy with the keys and knowledge would come and open it, and then this guy out of nowhere comes and unplugs the machine and evry1 was all " i didnt do it!" and the guy lost all his data. so yeah... wat werks fer me is to bang the card reader with my palm once or twice, like when i purchase a card, usually works.

Posted by: GAARA Mar 19 2005, 12:17 PM
My homie rob has saved my card so many times like this.

i wish i knew that when i lost a ft trueno at camelot.

I noticed it also helps if you take all the cards out of the card reader and put them back in again.

Posted by: ominous Mar 19 2005, 03:45 PM
thanks, miguel. this i know will help in the future. im still a noob so it hasnt happen yet. so when it does ill be ready.

Posted by: 8066 Mar 19 2005, 05:26 PM
Done quite understand, I just know that u take the new card out and close the card reader and that's all?
Btw, is there any special care needed for the ID card?
Last time i play at the arcade when i insert all my token then i found that a card stuck at the reader, im quite angry and bang on the reader also press the start and view change button then the card pop out, found that its a faulty card(lil scrath on the card), im so angry and try to tear it off but cant laugh.gif , so i just dump it to somewhere else..

Posted by: Phoenix_Cypher_K1 Mar 19 2005, 07:41 PM
This information would be quite handy. happy.gif Gonna pass this to the arcade attendant i usually frequent. Hopefully he would listen, unlike some other arcades which just turn off machines upon error. dry.gif

there is another thing when your bout to buy a card and it says card is jamed when there is really no cards how are you able to get it out or make it new card wihtotu wasting your money?

Posted by: KeNgai_rcrZero Mar 19 2005, 10:05 PM
uh..... you can't buy a card, because it wont take you to the buy a new card screen when there's no cards, it's programmed to not allow you to purchase, so I have no Idea what you mean? blink.gif

Posted by: tecD Mar 19 2005, 10:18 PM
ahaha. great directions and help. now im gonna print this stuff out and stick it in my wallet for next time the machine eats my card

Posted by: Whoosh Mar 19 2005, 10:44 PM
ok ill explain exactly what happened. first i put in 50 cents for the game
then i put another 50 cents for a new card then i wait. it doesnt say card purchased but the screen stayed the same and after like a min it says card jam. so there is cards in there but something is not letting it come out. it happened last night too. is there a way to fix it without the key. jason tried hitting it last night and it work but i tired hitting it today and it didnt. is there a certain spot?

Posted by: KeNgai_rcrZero Mar 19 2005, 11:08 PM
uh...no, that's the only way to get it out if your "hits" don't work, you must open the card reader, I did explain that with that big ass post didn't I? I stated that this process is for when you're 1. transffering, 2. inspecting, and 3. purchasing, and if hitting it doesn't help then you're pretty much screwed unless you get someone to open it.

Posted by: Whoosh Mar 19 2005, 11:47 PM
then im screwed cuz the bowling alley dont have the keys crying2.gif

Posted by: ceraf Mar 20 2005, 02:08 PM
Whoosh:

This happened to me before when I was buying a new card...seems like it's just a problem with the machine hardware, so it'll card-jam everytime you try to buy a card. One reason why I hate old Initial D machines.

Now it's been about a couple months since one machine at my arcade couldn't sell cards. Either it takes too much money to fix, or they can't figure out what the problem is. Just tell the arcade manager to stick a legible warning sign on the machine.

Posted by: ?wha? Mar 20 2005, 02:17 PM
Can anyone explain then how your card gets eaten BEFORE inspection? I had an RX 8 with 4 plays left and i put it into the machine, do akina and wait for it to spit it back out after the game. *waits for 30 seconds with loud clicking sound from the reader...* card comes out. next time i try the card, CARD ERROR and it hasn't worked ever since.

Posted by: KeNgai_rcrZero Mar 20 2005, 02:35 PM
That is the problem that no one knows the answer to, well, not me at least and anyone I know, you thought inspection was dreadful, wait till you get the "Error saving data" at the end of your regular games, then you're really screwed. crying2.gif

Posted by: xkhol Mar 20 2005, 02:45 PM
explanation...dirty card reader...how to prevent it...play on well maintained machines

Posted by: FDoftheBeaches Mar 20 2005, 07:14 PM
Overall, I'm glad this post started, considering I lost 2 cards with 750k on it (Sil80 and Evo 7). Thanks, now hopefully this wont happen again.

theres even some finesse and a touch to it? like how hard is enough?

whew good thing this never happened to me before.

Does anyone know what to do if the attendant doesn't have the key other than banging the hell out of it? The reason I ask is because I went to the arcade today and found that someone had a card jam on inspection. It was stuck at "Please remove invalid card" or something like that and the gray screen of death said "card reader jam."

Posted by: ?wha? Mar 22 2005, 02:37 PM
Generally in a card jam you press viewchange+start to remove the card but in any case if it doesn't work then boot the machine

Posted by: KeNgai_rcrZero Mar 23 2005, 12:58 AM
? Boot the machine? what the hell! you NEVER boot the machine! 0_o? What's the purpose of this thread again? To SAVE your card, not KILL it by "booting the machine".

im scared to renew my evoIII cuz the machines in the arcade i play at aren't dependable on renewing cards....

Posted by: Cappo Frappo Mar 23 2005, 04:23 PM
hey denver you should ask you arcade to put a cleaning card. or you could just go to a different arcade

Yo guys. My buddy lost all of his data by this. It was crazy. He was pretty mad because he had over 200,000 points in his trueno.

200,000 is not that much...you can get that back in a day or so

Posted by: KeNgai_rcrZero Mar 26 2005, 03:03 PM
By what? My way of saving your card? hahaha, no, you don't lose anything from this, besides, 200k? that's nothing, I have over 20 cards with 200k tell him I'll mail him one haha

Posted by: RX8 Guy Mar 26 2005, 04:01 PM
i just started barrageing the start and change view button and it spat out a blank card. then later it spat out a new card with my info on it after the race.

Posted by: Mindlock Mar 26 2005, 08:29 PM
In regards to jams on purchase, also check to see if it's feeding the new card correctly out of the magazine, especially when it's low on cards. One card reader on the machine that I just got simply doesn't put enough pressure on the stack of cards when there is only a few left (around 15 cards or so). Drop in a new stack of cards and it behaves fine.

Now I just need to get off my lazy ass and see if I can transplant the seats from a Super GT into an Initial D machine so I can have six speakers and a sub when I play. Prolly not though, don't think the Naomi 2 boards have a sub-woofer hook-up.

Posted by: J2.0 Apr 2 2005, 09:32 AM
what you do is hit the card reader and keep pressing the view/start buttons. hitting the card reader may slide out the card a little, enough for it to go into the right spot.

Posted by: Calum Day Apr 29 2005, 10:13 PM
This happened to me at Mulligans recently actually.

I went there to renew my card cause the usual arcade I go to doesnt have ink and I care about stupid trivial shit like pretty stars on my card.

So I sit down and waiting waiting waiting, and I get the error. I press start and view change a few times and still not going, so I go and get an arcade attendant. The guy sits there and opens up the card reader, and messes with it for a little bit and proceeds to tell me, "Well all we can do is give you your tokens back"

Im like, "Well, I dont care about the tokens, give me the $100+ or so Ive put into that card or get my card out of there"

So another guy comes over and takes the top card out that seems to be jamming it and closes it back up. He htis start and view change and it goes right through.

The thing that bothered me is the first guy just wanted to give up and just the machines off. He poked the card reader with a pencil a few times and just gave up :[

Then there's the time I jammed the card reader challenging Bunta with a stock car, but thats a different story. >.>

Posted by: KeNgai_rcrZero May 1 2005, 01:23 PM
hahaha, had that 1st guy wanted to be an idiot, your card would have been pwned, good thing there was someone there with some common sense wink2.gif

Posted by: blizg May 7 2005, 10:22 AM
woah cool. ill keep that in mind incase that happens to me.

Posted by: warboy85 May 13 2005, 05:13 AM
wad if my card jam after i press no on the cont. button? my BNR34 just died because of this.. damm it... i ask the arcade pple to open the cover n take out the card. den when i go play, it cant be used n i was damm piss... ani idea to slove this error???

Posted by: Ezeikial May 13 2005, 08:03 AM
thanks for putting this up, this could come in handy since my inspection is due in the next 4 plays

sad.gif *doesnt want anything to happen to his EvoIV*

Posted by: PhantomaZero May 22 2005, 03:28 PM
So I was at the movies watching this guy purchase a new card (NOT INSPECTION.) The machine spits out a blank card (before he gets to play) and a card jam error message appears. He takes out the card, continues playing, and gets nothing after finishing. Is this something that can happen to any machine?

Posted by: TDS 180SX KEVIN May 23 2005, 03:35 PM
i know who u got it from havoc

Posted by: dai2i2ick May 25 2005, 08:56 AM
didn't know where to post this really but it's sorta related to a card reader error. i guess this also goes to whoever plays at boomers in livermore. i put my card in to play on the left machine and it said there was a card reader error and i pressed start and view change a couple of times and my card would pop out. this happened with three of the cards, however i saw other people putting their cards in and it worked but when they tried to eject their cards when they were done, the card reader error message would pop up again. so i'm not too sure if it's my cards that are pwned or if it's the reader. if a card has been damaged what message would pop up on the screen?

Posted by: J2.0 May 25 2005, 03:46 PM
^^^ it probably would say that it can't read the card and spit it back out.

IF a card jam happens during card renewal/inspection, a message like "Card Write Error, Please Restart The Machine"(not exact, something like that) shows up. Sometimes you can use Start + View Change and you can get lucky and the card reader will save the data on a new card. However, sometimes you don't get lucky and have to call the technician.

Now, when a technician comes, DO NOT let him off the machine. (even if the machine says so) If he does your car is GONE. (Gone here as in NO MORE) When the machine starts up your car will not be there.

Get the technician to

I told the guy to come open it up. He opened it up and lifted the gold thing and took my card out. Then he closed the gold thing and i raced again. But it said it couldnt read my card!!!!!!!!! now it doesnt read it. i'm so mad. took me so much time and money. I dont get to go to the arcade that much either so whenever i do i make the most of it. But now i am screwed! HELP!!!!!!!!!

It's gone man.

At least your arcade manager tried.

I lost my FT RX8...during inspection as well. They couldn't save it because they broke the key to the card reader so they couldn't open it at all sad.gif Sad day.

wait so what do you do when you take the gold thing out? i didnt understand. I LOST MY CARD!!!!!!

Posted by: Stan Jun 28 2005, 06:58 PM
You move the gold thing, take out the new card, that was suppose to write your new data out so I guess a new card will take its place and write on the other one.

Posted by: prettyboi Jun 28 2005, 07:15 PM
when the guy took out mine, he only took out my card. was there another card too?

I know why it doesn't work. The card was being written to during the jam. Thus, taking it out rendered your data corrupted.

Posted by: prettyboi Jun 28 2005, 07:27 PM
yea so when we took the gold thing out, there was another card there other than my card? Is there like a blank card or something? cause i only saw my card

Yeah there should have been another card which you should of taken out, from under the golden thingy. That would of been the card that suppose to write on.

Shouldn't the card still work even if its taken out? Just won't save the info?

Posted by: prettyboi Jun 29 2005, 08:06 AM
my card was at inspection but it was my first time so i dont know what to do. Ok i had 1 race left before inspection before i put the card in. I raced and then this happened.

Ok so the card that was supposed to be written on is with my card? or is it somewhere else?

Posted by: Stan Jun 29 2005, 08:33 AM
So did the error occur while inspection or what?
Did you put in an extra dollar or anything to get it inspected?

Posted by: prettyboi Jun 29 2005, 06:08 PM
it got jammed before that. Right afater the battle and i got my points when the card was about to come out.

Yeah, there's a problem with the card readers that none of us know the answer to, that's when you're done racing and out of nowhere there's a card jam and it won't give it back, that's the #1 error that people fear the most, sorry about your FC man, that happened to me in ver.2 crying2.gif

Yeah, hope it doesn't happen. The closest thing that happened was when I put a DC2 into the machine and it said some kind of error. The attendant turned the machine off and then my card came out when it turned back on.

I was pissed, cause if it was lost, I don't know what I would've done.

Posted by: brian mayhem Oct 24 2005, 09:29 AM
At Menlo in New Jersey, the machine never jams. It may have before, but I don't know. Faith, you know Sean and Jake. Ask them. They've played there longer than I have. They would know if it jammed before or not. But what sucks is that a lot of noobs play there, and the cards in the machine get used up quickly. So, you have to be careful sometimes when you have to transfer data or renew.

Posted by: kman10587 Oct 25 2005, 01:16 PM
I work at an arcade, and this is a frequent problem with one of our machines. But it's really easy to fix. When you renew your card, the game reads the data from your card, stores it in its cache, stamps an "invalid" on your card and spits it back out, and then attempts to reprint your data on a new card. However, unless the card box and the card dispensing mechanism are lined up perfectly, the card will not be able to come out, and the dispenser will jam up, thus causing a "card reader error". On older machines, where the card dispenser mechanism is loose and worn out, this is going to happen a lot. All you have to do is open up the machine, re-align the card box with the dispenser, and press start/view change, and it should repeat the process again...and if it doesn't work, just do it again. There is really no way that you can lose your card in an inspection, unless the arcade attendant is a dumbass. And knowing how most arcade attendants are, they either know how to fix and operate the machine (unlikely), or don't give a crap and will let you do whatever you want with it (likely!).

Posted by: riP Oct 27 2005, 03:33 PM
the ppl at my arcade know how 2 fix it... all i have 2 worry about is "wut if john ir elies dont have the key 2 the machine"... if they dont thats when my trusty ol' foot comes 2 good use whistling.gif

That really annoyed me, and i also lost a bad card in instpection, but i was more annoyed at losing my card after a normal race, is there no way to fix this???

yeh i went to galactic circus a few weeks ago and the initial d machines were badly maintained like the steering wheel never stopped turning, like you could do 1000000 degrees with them. so i decided to go back to intencity where they fix the machines after they find out there is something wrong with them.

but the only thing they havnt fixed is the rocket chair (never locks in place)

Dang it's been more than six months since I last posted here. Too bad I have to post about a card problem.

I went to the arcade yesterday after about a 1 month hiatus from any arcade, 3 month hiatus from IDv3. I play maybe two or three races w/ my FD Spirit, then I switch to my 180SX. Here's my problem: When I made my switch, I pocketed my FD Spirit in the breast-pocket of my work shirt. What I failed to realize is that I left my name-tag and lapel pin in that same pocket. Both use magnets to keep on my shirt and tie. When I stuck my FD card back into the machine, it was unable to read it for the rest of the night.

Is this just a temporary setback or is my FD Spirit lost forever?

Uhh, I have a card problem... So I really wanna know the solution...

One day, I came back from school and I was very exhausted.. So I went into the bathroom and just bath... I completely forgotten about my wallet that have ALL my Initial D card was in my pants...

So my mom took it and put into the washing machine and wash it... Yeah, with my wallet and my cards... The next day, my mom said that my wallet was soaked wet..

I took the cash and the cash is still usable.. What the problem is is my cards.. They are wet... Indeed but not torn or anything... So I wonder if I can use my cards when they are dry? I am going to check my cards this Friday but I am very curious..

So please, is it still usable?

if you don't know, how the hell are we supposed to know?

Just stick it in the ID machine and find out.

Water doesn't damage ID cards and there have been several stories with the same scenario, all of which turn out fine, so maybe yours will too.

one horror story of mine is that I had an 86 completley finished and with a battle level 3. The machine was damaged and the tech had to put the card cleaner thingy into the machine. thanks to him, my card got soaked, all information wiped clean, and I couldn't use the 86 anymore. Now I got an FD3S which I am very happy with. luckily, when the same thing happened to me about a year later I managed to save my FD.

OKay I have a story my Evo 7. I was playing, and The entire Power of the mall went out, including the arcade, no back up generators my car was in the machine. I was like f**k... the arcade attendants are really cool with the regulars, and I was like dude my card might get fried if the machine comes back on with my card in there so he got the flashlight and we were opening the card dispenser, i saw my card and grabbed it...and the power came on a few minutes later, and He gave me some free credtis, and if the card was fried he would reimburse me the money in cash...well all my friends knew about stuff like ID cards getting fried when power is cut off, well they all knew the Evo 7 was in there and knew it was my prized card...so the machine comes back on, the credits are put in the card is inserted and it goes to insert card and it reads it and it shows my stats and the arcade attenedant was like thank god, i would have had to call my boss to see how much to reimburse you... I wasl ike i dont even care no money can replace this card...he was like yep. and yeah the day went on fine i got both Snow times that same day. took both of the times by 3 seconds....

When I was doing inspection, The Card writer froze cuz of my card lol lol.. but then yeah I told the guy to open it and said the best thing he can do is to blow the inside of the wire for a better connection, I was like wtf? Then I remembered so I told him to take out that card, and yeah and told him to put it back in, and I thought I was screwed but it worked laugh.gif

Still haven't deciphered the meaning of the bold words yet, though. Moshn(the difficult poster): Please post more coherently from now on. im sorta confused. like ok when your old card spits out with the invalid thing on it and the new card doesnt come out you do this right? but how does that work? i mean isnt the new card just a card without data at that point? im just confused on the "how is the card saved" thought.

Posted by: 207 Aug 31 2006, 07:03 AM
the machine copies the old data spits it out, its supposed to put the data to the new card, the card comes out or doesnt, shutting the machine is the worst so go to the solution on the first page.
corect me if im wrong ppl

Nope i'm sure your pretty right.
And you should get a invalid card. This card is not possible to use. This is your old card. Your new card does work. It should have the same key as your old card. But the pic might be differnt...
^^ Is that wrong???

@EA11R: And where are you getting with this?

Posted by: 207 Aug 31 2006, 09:10 AM
the pic probably will be diferent as they keep blanks with many different pics, well atlest hopefully

when u inspect ur card all the DATA stays the same, name, car, RL, BL, LOTS, TA's, TA codes, steering, bgm setting, ur card key #.. the only thing that canges is u get a new card... and since u cant pick ur card it comes out random.. some arcades set them in stacks [all 1 type of card then under those all another card] and some shuffle them around so ull get a different picture card

ok i have a problem at my arcade. So as soon as the machine is turned on it does alll the card crap. But then it goes to a screen that says CARD R/W ERROR and there is no way we can fix it no matter how many times we reset the machine it stays like that. Can this method be used to fix this? maybe theres a card stuck in there. Hrm and is there anyway you can do anything to the machine so that it would be able to read cards? becuase we have 2 machines the card taking one is errored like i said above. And the one thats working doesnt accept cards. Anyway i can fix all of this crap? i just want to get back to using my card again thankksss

alrighty so i read this post n i was all happy n stuff cuz my fd was close to inspection. and today was the day. n of course i get the card jam. i got my invalid n i think the arcade manager/tech knew what to do because he opened up the gold plate n stuff. n just my luck...THERES NO CARD IN THERE TO TAKE OUT and i guess the manager hates all the initial d ppl cuz we give him so much work cuz its always having problems card r/w error etc etc. so when i asked him to do that again. he was like ok so it didnt work, u want to do it my way now? and yea his way was of course to turn it off. so i had to let him turn it off. and now FDless. im so pissed right now. i put so much money into that card...

One time me and my brother were playing Initial D. Then a blackout happened to the whole block. Since we read that if are cards are in the machine they wont be able to work. We were pist and everything. Weve done like 7 inspections for this card. Then the power came back on. Then all of a sudden, are cards came out. The manager gave us free plays and we tried it out again. It was still working. But i had to start off were i was again.(i was about to beat him)

Posted by: Smikey Oct 6 2006, 09:38 AM
When the card saves data it overwrites it at the end of the session. When you are playing it doesn't take the data off the card and put it back on at the end of the play session. So, if the power goes out you lose all unsaved information. Any LoTs or TA you might have done during that session. However, say you are doing an inspection and it spits out your old card and you get the card jam error screen, and have no way to fix it, and they restart the machine. All data will be lost, cause the machine flushes temporary data at restart. And it was not able to transfer to a new card at the end of your session. Yes, I know it says Initial D Data Has Been Saved On The New Card, but that is not true until the end of your session. Because when it says "It will be ejected" is when all the writing on the card takes place and all saving. Also, if you have finished your run, and it is on the card eject screen the one that says "You Initial D Card Will Be Ejected" and it turns off before it is ejected. I belive it will be gone too since it wil have an incomplete/corrupted save file making it useless. Hope that helps. wink2.gif

QUOTE (Miguel @ Mar 19 2005, 01:47 PM)

But please, use this information to your advantage, I mean, with this error already in progress, what else do you have to lose? blink.gif  Thanks for your time and I hope this works for you the way it does for me, because without it, I would have quit a loooooooonnnnnngggg time ago.

ekin: read 1st post or just look above

if no cards are in the machine than its no problem, but if there are cards in there.... try start and view change at same time, might work sometimes

btw how does step 3 ensure data isnt lost?

she removed the card from it then shut off machine when she was supposed to press start and view change

this has been happenin for me for a while now, n i think its my card but luckily i get inspection in 2 more plays n hopefully it wont happen again. n this mostly happens when i go to challenge someone

someone has accept challenge on, i go on n challenge him, put in my money, put in my card, waits...........waits........waits......(note: the last time i used the card it takes like 3mins for the card to eject after you finished playing with it), still waiting.........then a error pops up saying something like unable to read card or whatever, press start n view to eject it, put it in again, same thing happens long wait, do it a couple more times n it doesnt work BUT sometimes it does, i also try bending the card to see whether that works, n it forces me to use a different card

so far i have only seen this happen to me and it has not happend to my other cards

anyone know any reason y?? maybe i bent my card too much?? but i dont remember bending my card at all..........

Posted by: Ginji May 25 2009, 08:33 AM
I gave the arcade worker a print copy of the solution yesterday and he tried it while making a new card and. it didn't work. The card he took out didn't work. what happened?

I already lost my FT Spirit and 500k RX8.

During the inspection and it gets stuck. Even if you take the card thats being written on, won't the next card get stuck? I had gotten 5 copys of invalid rx7's and rx8's. Machine works fine when you don't buy or inspect cards. Ugh. i need someone to explain it to me.

Question: I might go to the mall and check the cardreader. Does it help if i take the stack of cards and move some of the ones on the top?

that red light means when the card reader is out of cards and needs to be restocked

oooh and what if it runs out of ink? what is the indication for that?

From what I know, V3 cards dont run out of ink. The cards are heat-activated.

if it runs out of it, the card thats renewed will be blank most likely

Probably far far too late to this thread for it to be worth a damn, but some info for anyone still using idas1-3 machines in the wild:-

1- The key that opens initial d card readers is a standard sega arcade cabinet key (the same for all locks on all sega cabs everywhere, only coin box keys are unique). You can source these keys on eBay or from places like riverservice in japan.

2- So long as the machine reads your card data ok, any jam is a recoverable problem, just don't turn off the machine. Clear the jam, make sure the mechanism is clean, make sure the card dispenser has cards and reseat them etc.

3- The card readers don't use ink, they have a thermal printer inside (it literally burns the print onto the card).

Posted by: Akina7even Jul 16 2011, 06:43 PM
Just have to post and say that I am eternally grateful that there is a solution to my worst fear!
Myself and a few friends are new to the game and have heard of the dreaded card inhalation problem apparent on virtually all the cabinets. With this information I will not live in fear of losing any of the data I have collected now!
