You are correct. Why do racing schools normally start people out in FWD (sometimes RWD) cars? Simple, if you run AWD from the start, you can make mistakes, but the car will cover them up. If you screw up in a 2WD, you screwed up. If it's AWD, it's whatever, you know? You need to learn to drive in a way that eliminates mistakes instead of learning to drive a car that fixes them for you. That's why AWDs aren't good first cars. They teach you that it's okay to make mistakes. Same with ABS, same with traction control, stability management, etc. They all cover up user error.

I should have shouldn't I...But all he would have gotten there would have been "WTF. GTFO N00B" or "YOU SPOILED BRAT!" Gotta love Nabisco. And AWD also makes cars much more thirsty. Expect to fill up at least once a week. The best I've ever managed was about 280 to the tank. That was possible through mostly freeway and driving like a senior citizen around town. I normally get about 220-240 miles. The absolute worst I got was around 130-ish, I drove around like a total yahoo to achieve that.

VVTL-i just kicked in yo! Group: Advanced Members Posts: 593 Member No.: 29,639 Joined: May 25th 2008 Location: Orange County, California | My first car was a present from my dad for graduating from high school and deciding to go to college. While I appreciated having a car, I really didn't appreciate the car itself, I never took care of it and didn't realize how much money is involved in just having a car until the constant repair bills started adding up. I was lucky enough to realize this before the car completely died out on me so I was able to save up enough money for my Celica. Having bought my own car, I really appreciate it a lot more. On top of that, I gained a better understanding of saving money as well as calculating additional costs of maintaining a car. Regardless of whether some one buys their first car or has one given to them, I don't think inexperienced drivers (myself included) should be driving really fast performance cars, that's just my two cents though. |

130? Holy f**k. The Mitsu club fall cruise, we ran balls out for the better part of a 200 mile trip, and I still managed 240miles on that tank, at 15mpg. If I'm nice to it and see all highway, I can see 400 miles (at least) before my next required gas stop.

"Hella" Heavy? Compared to what? Stis/evos weigh about as much as Vipers and Corvettes. First gen evos weighed like 2500+ pounds, 3rd gens weighed in the 2600 pound range (both depending on trim, about 100 more in the heaver trims i believe, someone correct me if im wrong). That evo3 was in 95. 2rd gen Rx7s in the 80s weighed 2600 pounds. 3rd gen rx7s weighed 2800 pounds. Sure they add more weight, compared to a 2wd version of the same car- But thats still not a lot.

Off DSMtuners:
Holy shit, 40lbs! That's so much! Then you've got the transfer case, driveshaft, and rear diff, which weight maybe 100lbs together. This post has been edited by cmspaz on Nov 1 2009, 04:28 PM

... My Vivio is AWD, and I can go for a week without filling up for about 8 litres of fuel. LOL. Well... That is, if I granny drive. LOL.
Hey, wasn't the GC8 about the same weight as - or lighter than an RX-7? I remember reading that somewhere a while ago.

I think that's more of a factor of the tiny engine.

I spent alot of times driving it late at night in parking lots, and figured the many fun features of the STi. I'm now glad to be a part of the Subaru Fraternity. |
