You can't ''add'' rotors to a car.You can swap engines, though, like a 20B which has 3 rotors. That RX7 you've seen is probably the Scoot Sports RX7,and it has an engine which is made by putting together two 12A engines.(or 13B).

If u have the money u can add rotors, aside from a custom e-shaft theres a plethora of parts needed to make it reliable. but if ur just gonna add 1 rotor it'd be easier to go 20b. but realistically how much power r u looking for? with some port work, big turbo and tuning 500+whp is obtainable on pump gas more with meth injection. Beyond that ur looking at race gas.

Oh and the scoot motor is a custom 4 rotor using 12a rotors and housing, everthing else is custom.

Question again.

From what I understand about making a naturally aspirated car use forced induction, you would have to change the pistons, among other things, in order for the car to be able to run at the compression ratio it would be running without shattering them.

How then do you Turbo an RX8? The rotors of the 7 are different in design, so I cant see a rotor swap between the two happening.

there is nothing stopping anyone turboing a rx-8 (infact people have done it), what limits the rx-8 is the fact that it is a high compression engine (10:1) which reduces the effectiveness of adding a turbo because you wont be able to run much boost without blowing your engine. This is a drawback to a more efficient engine.

What can be done about it? You can tune it and keep it NA like how mazda had in mind. You can use forced induction at low pressures but it isnt really worth it. Or if you have the cash, design your own new rotors to be low compression so you can get more from the engine when turboed, but it would be cheaper to just buy a fd anyway (these engines have a compression ratio of about 8.5:1 i think).

how do u turbo an RX8 u ask? Very simple, buy turbo kit, all the fuel goodies(pump, injuectors, fpr, etc) get a nice standalone ecu and get it tuned for boost, the high compression is the hindering factor if ur gonna use pump gas but at 10lbs boost ur looking at more than 250whp.

RX-8 rotors aside from being 10:1 compression have a dual side seals(i think the intake port timing is the reason for it), and a shorter apex seal(do to the fact it doesnt have to scrape over an exhaust port) theyre also the lightest rotor out of the generations. To my knowledge u can run rx7 rotors in the motor with the proper counter weights and some beveling to the ports to keep the side seals in. The only turbo motor to run 8.5:1 was the S4 13bt(1987-88) From S5 on, mazda ran 9:1 in their turbo motors.

500 whp on pump gas is a wee bit optimistic, no?

500whp on pump gas is easy on a 13b. My buddy is pushing 400whp with a small streetport @ like 15psi.

maybe for a renesis, s5 13bt, 13bre and 13brew motors its a very realistic claim.

This thread is annoying.

The question's been answered, so every noob in existence has to come in here and state their ridiculously intelligent opinions, re-answer the question, or take it off topic.

What's the point, really? To say you posted in the tech section? Does it make you feel smarter? Because you're certainly helping to make this section dumber for the rest of us.

Just go out and buy a 20b engine on ebay. There not that hard to find. Your looking at around 10k though for the cost of parts. The rx8 (fe) will require alot of moding to get the thing to fit. It will be cheaper to just buy a rolling FC and drop the 20b in it since they bolt right in. Theres a company that makes a computer for the 3 rotor but its been a while since ive even touched a rotary i cant remmber the name of them. Look around.

If you have the money to throw at it you might as well. but tack on another 3-5k for a rebuild and street port and you will putting out a decent amount of power (350-400ish). I wouldnt go above a street for stability /reliability reasons.

On a side note i cant believe this board is still up.
