Therefore it is very interesting to see how Initial D This post has been edited by StephanCTR on Dec 1 2013, 02:44 PM |

Those sales figures are impressive, by the way! I was expecting something within, probably under, 10,000, but up to 200,000?! Initial D is still alive and well, it seems! Those numbers are pretty weak, by comparison. But probably enough to at least keep it going for a few more years... Popularity isn't "hidden" in sales figures, it IS sales figures. We have their continued interest to thank, because without them the series would most likely be canceled and we would be left unsatisfied and hanging with some sort of lame ending. These numbers aren't the best, but they aren't the worst either. Great information, thanks for sharing StephanCTR! |

You're right about this. But I don't think the figures are that low. Yes, it's about half of what average shonen manga does, but Wangan Midnight C1 Runner scores around 30 000 at first week, and it still goes on. And, I'm jealous you're buying it tomorrow, I pre-ordered online, but I'll have to wait two weeks for it to arrive to my place.
That lame ending you mentioned is interesting thought, it's funny to think how could it be wrapped up in a few chapters (of course it's fun only because it won't happen). Anyway, thanks for your thanks. This post has been edited by StephanCTR on Jun 5 2012, 06:32 AM

The numbers don't seem that bad for just three weeks compared to six months worth of sales. 200,000 copies at 500 yen a piece is over a million dollars. ID is at least popular enough that it's still sold in convenience stores. 95% of manga can't say that. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |

Take note that there is a solid portion of thieves that are not buying the books and you'll have a better indicator of how popular the series is. It's holding on, but without some form of drastic measure to open it up to a broader audience, it won't see an increase in readership (and thus a reason for studios to see benefits in financing another anime season). |

So we can see exactly how fair its doing compared to other mangas that are out beside ID I'm assuming there will be a huge gap This post has been edited by W.A.R on Jun 5 2012, 04:09 PM |

From what I know anything that sells over 50,000 to 100,000 copies a volume is considered a success so Initial D at times can hit as high as #4th best selling manga of that week. If they don't sell it at #4th best selling manga you usually see it on the 2nd week ranked as #4. Most manga with over 100,000 copies per volume ends up becoming an anime. As for the gap its hard to compare it unless a lot of the older articles of the weekly are dug up from the website. I've seen it a few times but so many to look into to find it. |

IDW Expert Member Group: Members Posts: 103 Member No.: 38,044 Joined: Oct 31st 2011 Location: Czech Republic | Vol. 46 sales are in!! And they are very good indeed. Looks like the series is still popular as it is reaching it's end. Many fans don't like the prolonging of latest battles, but I guess there are also many new fans who likes it as it is now. |

IDW Expert Member Group: Members Posts: 103 Member No.: 38,044 Joined: Oct 31st 2011 Location: Czech Republic | Vol. 47 figures in! It is doing well as usually, 190 000 in the first two weeks! In third week less than 32 000, so it didn't make it to the top 50. It is just a shame that with the series already ended, sales no longer indicates if it's future is bright or not. Anyway, let's look forward to the last book - vol. 48 (relased probably in December)! With only approx. 110 pages of regular chapters left, what special story will fill the rest of the book?? (For exapmle, in Wangan Midnight C1 runner last tankobon, they added some older Shokotan Boogie story to reach 200 pages.) This post has been edited by StephanCTR on Sep 2 2013, 09:18 AM |

The numbers are decent as always, but one would expect some sales boost with the last Initial D tankobon. Well, seems like this topic has reached it's end. Goodbye, and thank you for reading. |

...worse, probably. Popularity clearly peaked around the time Third Stage was made or it wouldn't have taken them so damn long to make Fourth Stage, which was a Pay Per View series. Fifth Stage was even worse... seven years, which in anime years is like, infinity (considering the general public loses interest in most series after a few months of no new content).
