Suuuup. What kind of "drank" ya into? My favorite is Barcardi 151!! I drink it straight from the bottle till I can't hold the bottle anymore. Flamin Dr. Peppers are pretty sick too. ..Mainly cause it involves Barcardi 151. I usually do that if I have some friends over though. happy.gif ... please tell me this is what the topic is about. >_>

Sooo I really don't drink that often but when I do I'm a real pretentious asshole about what I drink. I do love a good red wine especially paired with a nice steak, other than that I like Speyside Scotchs, Bourbon, apple ciders and even Gin on occasion preferably mixed with Ginger Ale and with a slice of lime.

If there is anyone who's a fan of White Russians, try substituting shochu in lieu of vodka. I call it a "White Japanese". Shochu has a higher alcohol content than vodka (On average per brand) while still retaining that rubbing alcohol vibe, so it makes you feel better quicker.

Posted by: TranceKitsune Oct 8 2013, 03:16 PM
Ahhh that sounds good Midnight! I may have to try that since I can't really stomach Vodka anymore.. I had a bad experience with it..very bad experience. Hahaha. What kind of drunk do you all turn into? I turn into the laughing/happy/cuddly type of drunk. ._.

Does shochu taste like Sake? I can't say I've ever tried it.

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, it's a lot sweeter than sake and as such is dangerously delicious. laugh2.gif Proper sake that's properly prepared is kinda hard to come by unless you're at an expensive restaurant (and even then you might get sake at the wrong temperature, shame on them!).

Personally, I'm a fan of ciders and mixed drinks. If I had to go in a more 'traditional' direction I'd go straight for stouts like Guinness. I absolutely cannot stand piss beer. Either it's fruity and fabulous...or black and hard.

...

...yeah. laugh2.gif

I swear by Smithwick's when it comes to beer and ales now. All someone at work had to do was mention the name and I bought it knowing the Irish can't be wrong when it comes to alcohol. That has nothing to do with stereotypes, by the way. laugh.gif tongue.gif

Tried the shocktop pumpkin wheat drink, tasted like ugly ass beer.

Woodchuck is the only drink I love so far, need to find me some more fruity/cider drinks.

Shocktop apple is actually pretty damn good, I'm a fan. It's not my favorite of the apples (that might go to Angry Orchard...) but it's refreshing.

Angry Orchard is also one of my favorites, Crispin is my favorite brand though.

Stay away from Kopparberg, yuck.

I had Angry Orchard for the first time a few months ago at a family event. It was pretty damn good for a cider. Loved it.
I usually stick to Captain Morgan, cuz I'm a rum fag, but I do like to try flavored vodkas.. My favorites would be a cake flavor and mango flavor. As far as flavors go, I experimented with coconut rum and Sprite a few years ago. It turned out better than expected. As far as beers go, I don't really like beer, save for 2 or 3 brands. One is Molson XXX, which, when paired with Pizza Hut, is nice.
Usually I will drink weak stuff like Smirnoff Ice, because it's cheaper than getting flashy shots and stuff. tongue.gif

That's all I can say for this thread. laugh2.gif

I'm turning 21 in a few weeks and I'm looking forward to drinking but I get the bad feeling that I'm not going to like it. From what I know from basic genetics and the principles of heredity, I'm going to be a lightweight because my mom is one and my dad is one too, but he drinks anyway because he's a MAN.

Anyway, I just wanted to step in and tell everyone not to go too crazy in this thread. The forum rules still apply and please don't give anyone the bad idea of mixing up some crazy concoction that is going to cause someone else to black out--or even worse--die. Remember to drink and party responsibly and for my ladies out there, don't drink if you're pregnant because that is going to mess your baby up and that isn't cool. Oh man I sound like such a parent right now. See how much I love you guys? derp.gif

Shit, I love White Russians. I might have to do this sometime.

Anyways, I'm missing my good American beers. What I wouldn't give to have a good bottle of Shiner. Or shit, anything from Dogfish Head, Sierra Nevada or Lagunitas.

Ah, about time we had this thread. Also, I'm totally up for an IDW booze cruise, considering I'll be US-legal in a few weeks. laugh.gif

  • Beer: Young's Double Chocolate Stout, or Heineken if it's all they have. Not really big on beer, to be honest. I know, unAustralian, but ask me how much I care.
  • Bourbon: Either Jim Beam Devil's Cut or Honey for me, although Wild Turkey Honey and Cola premix ain't bad.
  • Ciders: Rekorderlig Apple and 5 Seeds are the bomb, even if I rarely drink the stuff.
  • Rum: Kraken Dark Spiced Rum all the way. Smells awesome, puts hair on your chest (yes, even the ladies!) and comes in a badass bottle covered in old-school drawings.
  • Scotch: J&B for the most part, but Johnnie Walker Blue Label if it's a special occasion. Also, if you go into a liquor store and they don't know what Justerini and Brooks is, leave and leave quick.
  • Vodka: Stolichnaya or Russian Standard straight in a tall glass, goes great with Russian food.

Always wanted to try sake and shochu, I'll have to fix this. biggrin.gif

As is probably known, I'm a bit of a beer snob, but don't think that keeps me away from any drinking man's beer when the moment is right. Grappler will more than likely attempt to discredit me by pointing out that he saw me with a High Life Light in my hands over the weekend, but you can't turn down a beer offering, especially from the gentleman I accepted it from.

Regardless, I'll go through what I've got in the basement once I'm home and share because caring.

Also, for you cider peeps, because I love a good cider as much as the next guy, JK Scrumpy. It's out of season right now, but I found 6 bottles still on the shelf at my usual stop, so if you can find it, try it. It only comes in bombers, and is 100% organic AND unfiltered. Pure WIN in a bottle.

Also also, it's pumpkin beer season. AND Oktoberfest. Best time of the year for beer, hands down.

Posted by: Spaz Oct 9 2013, 02:31 PM
It's a bit sparse right now, but I've been trying to empty that shelf, which means it's working. tongue.gif

In no particular order: JK Scrumpy, Southern Tier The Warlock (Imperial Pumpkin Stout!), Surly Seviin (Belgian Strong Ale. These guys are a local craft brewery), Surly Hell (expect a lot of these guys from me), Tallgrass 8-Bit (Yay IPA!), and a Hinterland Maple Bock(WI crafter). There's a box with a few Sam Smith brews including their oatmeal stout (yum!). There's some Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro (Not really nitro in a bottle, never mind that it's not actually a nitro) in one of the cases, along with some of what's actually labelled on the outside. Note that I don't pick up cases, the Blue Moon pack I wouldn't have grabbed, but the Summit pack to the right I'd have been all over. Yes, there is also a bottle of Buttershots. Leave me alone on that. It is great in sweet tea though!

The wine on the other hand... Needs attention despite regularly getting it. It needs more like bottle-in-hand attention. Most of this was picked up by my father, it's probably equal parts local and Cuvaison (A Napa Valley winery), with intermixing of whatever else looked good or came with recommendation. There's some Korbel mixed in, if only because any alcohol that funds a racing team is worth every penny.

And this doesn't cover the cabinet of hard stuff. That I normally only touch on bad nights that need to not be bad anymore. Main go-tos for mixed drinks are rum/whiskey Cokes of increasing ratio, Margaritas (can't go wrong with tequila OR salt, let alone together), and an awesome "Iced Coffee" recipe I got from my boss that is total win:

1/4 Kahlua
1/3 Irish Cream
Remainder of glass is filled with International Delights mocha iced coffee

And it is AMAZING.

Also, if anyone uses the Untappd app, add me up: cmspaz

I've never been a Woodchuck fan (Bubs would kill me for saying that, lol). Scrumpy is by far and away the best cider I've ever had. Better than Angry Orchard, which while good, lacks the body of the unfiltered Scrumpy. Crispin is good as well, so is Strongbow, but in the end I keep gravitating back to the Scrumpy. Everyone I've introduced to it has felt the same way.

I also have the buddy of mine who passed away in a motorcycle accident 6 months ago last week to thank for introducing me.

Posted by: Spaz Oct 12 2013, 05:42 AM
I decided to have a beer after dinner last night, and went for the Warlock.

It's basically a mixture of pumpkin pie and milk stout, in flavoring. It's sweet, but not too sweet, and the flavor is nicely complimented in both directions. Basically what I've come to expect from Southern Tier Brewing in quality. I liked it more than their Pumpking, but it is a bit more on the desert beer side, which means I'm ineviatbly stuck comparing it to the Creme Brulee, also a Southern Tier brew, which is by far and away the best desert beer ever brewed.

And of course, Untappd had to prod at me when I checked in, recommending Founders' Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) as a similar brew. Fucking hell, it needs to be winter again so I can try to track some down. To put the KBS into perspective, every single beer snob I know who has tried it has it at #1. It's that good.

Wow. Thanks for noticing that I turned 21 guys. GOSH! Just kidding, I removed my birth date so no one would notice. I had a pretty quiet birthday... For the most part... One of my friends knew and wanted to take me out to a 'gastropub' that I always talk about/frequent for BACON POPCORN. And so he did, swooped in from no where and took me to downtown he did. I didn't want to be mainstream and get a beer for my first drink so I went with a hard cider. Little did I know...

Its the same hard cider that Spaz praises and loves so much. And for good reason! This stuff is amazing! I don't know my alcohol, but I can tell you that it was good! And then later on that week, another friend gave me a 6-pack of Redd's apple ale. I'm pleasantly surprised that I don't have a ton of alcohol in the pantry yet but I'd rather keep it that way anyhow. Getting carded for alcohol is cool and all, but I don't like my driver's licence picture. derp.gif

Posted by: Spaz Nov 22 2013, 11:23 AM
LOL, my driver's license pic had my Jesus hair on it for quite some time after it was gone, that always resulted in odd looks and double takes.

Seriously though, Scrumpy FTW.

I suppose I should make an actual post in here, though...

Bell's Special Double Cream Stout. Nice and smooth, good, well blended flavor. Definitely something to order again.

Kona Pipeline Porter. Was a while back, I don't remember specifics. Was lightly smoked, not my favorite style of beer but it definitely had its merits.

Cisco Island Reserve Tripel Ale. Seriously, the best tripel ale I've ever had. Easily in the top ten for beers I can see through.

Widmer Brothers Alchemy Ale, an APA. I rated it well, so I must have liked it. Again, not remembering specifics. My fault for not updating.

Surly Darkness. One of the beers I most look forward to every year. Had it on tap shortly after release, so it wasn't properly aged, and it wasn't as good as last year's, but still by far and away top three for this year's dated brews. Never fails to disappoint. I did also manage to secure a single bottle from a buddy, I just have to pick it up. It'll be aged for quite a while before I touch it again.

Tried Angry Orchard when i was out 2 weeks or so ago up north. Made a pit stop to get snacks and what not for night fishing, got that. Gotta say.. it tastes just like Woodchuck Amber, but maybe I might be mistaken since I had that a month or so ago since I posted in this. It's good.

Just gotta find more Hard Ciders to try out, and maybe try reds ale, the apple and strawberry.

I generally just assume that I'm going to spend more than expected when I go out, even just for dinner and a couple beers... Even then I occasionally surprise myself. tongue.gif

Last Wednesday I think I spent like $50 including tip, an app, entrée, and two beers, lol. I always seem to find the spendy stuff.

I really think its the price of all this kinda stuff that turns me off from going out to the bar and drinking. Food is already expensive enough and good beer around here is around 10 bucks alone. I can agree to a degree, it does get expensive, which is why I usually have a lot of good beers at home, and I can take them with me to friends' places. Hell, not on happy hour, one of my usual bars has JK Scrumpy at $12. Yes, you read that right. I pick it up for $5.50/bottle from my usual liquor store. Yeah. When I got JK Scrumpy, it was 10 or 11 bucks at the bottle. I can imagine that half the cost of the alcohol when you're drinking out is paying for the ambiance of the bar itself. The place where I went to go get my first drink--oh let me tell you Spaz--is called the Salted Pig. Its probably one of the coolest pubs I've ever seen. They have bacon in almost everything. Alcohol in excess never again. Some friends and I went to Yard House yesterday night for a late dinner and I read it was happy hour. That means half off on drinks too! I decided to throw out my ID and get a yard long of Orange ShockTop. It was good at first, holy canoli! It is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much. I had to force myself to finish it. I'm not a beer snob so I'm not going to try to review it, but I will say that I did like the kick it had. For me the little hint of orange came at the very end, very unique! I might come back to it way down the line for a revisit. Also... I have confirmed, alcohol goes straight to my face and makes me super hungry. derp.gif

I tried it, didn't like it, but again, i'm not really a fan of beer, it's something i'd have to just drink everyday to get used to the taste and etc.

Ah, Woodchuck Hard Cider. Nectar of the gods. I've never really had a taste for beer, which I think stems from a terrible experience with Heineken. I think the only beer I've ever legitimately enjoyed was Guinness Extra Stout, so otherwise Woodchuck Cider is my beer. Delicious, tons of varieties and made right in Vermont so I'm a dedicated fan.

They even make a ton of awesome rare releases like a Belgian White cider and Smoked Apple. Mmmmmmm.

Bumping with my Apple Pie Moonshine recipe for D0nz0rz

This is all off the top of my head, I don't have this documented anywhere.

1 Gal - Apple cider
1 Gal - Apple juice
750mL-1.5L of 190 proof grain alcohol (Everclear, etc), volume depending on intended final proof
2 containers cinnamon sticks, generally 5-8 count each
3 cups brown sugar
1 cup white sugar

Obviously those quantities can be scaled as necessary, and it's all totally to taste so feel free to change the sugar ratio, how many cinnamon sticks, etc.

Pour juice and cider into large pot. Set over heat and bring to a simmer. Once simmering, add cinnamon sticks. Maintain simmer until cinnamon sticks have lost all flavor. At this point, add and dissolve sugar, then remove from heat. Let cool to below 170F (approx. boiling point of alcohol) and add alcohol.

Let cool further and serve warm or chilled. Can be stored/aged if desired, if storing/distributing in mason jars, can place used cinnamon sticks inside for effect.

And as a word of warning, it will smell very strongly of alcohol, but you'll barely taste it so it tends to be dangerous in that sense. It'll mess you up quick, and even just maintaining a buzz for a few hours will leave you massively hung over. But it's super delicious and it's been a massive hit at every function I've ever taken it to or made it at.

Gonna be getting me some rum/whiskey this year, try some cola combos or that rumchata and honey whiskey drink I saw the companies put out. biggrin.gif

Yes, I gots a sweet tooth.

the Jack Daniels honey whiskey is great it has a strong sweet taste too it but not so sweet its too much. its much like drinking sweet honey cough syrup. its is very easy to drink to the point where you might find you had a bit too much too late to realize it.

my favorite drink so far is Ungava Gin, all the stuff is local to Quebec and it has a nice spicy taste. its a drawn out mellow bite to it, not like other gins that hit you hard in the end. its also golden yellow in color due to a flower (cloud berry).

lol, and i know your pain regarding mixing alcohols. i couldnt keep any food down for the next 24 hours until i emptied my stomach. i havent mixed any base alcohols since then nor plan on doing so all within 24 hours. though someone i know has done that to her brother to teach him a lesson, think it was vodka/gin mix.

smirnoff is horrible imo by itself, i prefer grey goose. i do once in a while buy the smirnoff poppers and smirnoff blends. their flavored ones like marshmellows cant be drunk straight, its also likely the same for the other various flavored 750ML bottles.

im not a fan of mixing drinks with sodas but im forced to do so to finish off certain types i purchased in the past. vodka and midori work well 1:4 ratio if i remember correctly. i tried the soho lychee liqueur, that was hard to drink even with sprite, so damn sweet to begin with.

i just dropped by the SAQ liquor store and got some apple punch NO.7 Jack Daniels, havent tried it yet but i will do so in a few hours once the bottle is cold.
EDIT: its a pretty good drink, a mild apple taste with a bit of sourness but it just sweet enough and easy to drink.

thanks, now i know why that avatar drove me crazy. i saw the Toheart series atleast a few years ago and couldnt place that face or uniform.

I last weekend picked up a few notable beers:

Southern Tier Pumking - Yeah, it's widely available, still tasty though.
Surly Nein - Haven't tried it yet but I'm incredibly excited to do so, Surly always does right by their anniversary brews. Should be able to get more than the two bottles I have fairly easily.
Bell's 30th Anniversary - Limited production, one time run. I have two bottles, need to get more if I can to save for later... Or forever.

am i the one here who doesnt give a damn about beer? i can count the beer brands i can tolerate or drink without really caring about on 1 hand. there's something about the hops that make beer have 3 distinctive tastes: bitter, sweet or bland. i cant stand the the first 2 tastes and im willing to have some beers without much taste on rare occasions or just for sharing a drink with friends/family occasions. by that i mean in 1 year i may only have only drunk the equivalent of 5 355ml bottles.

Canadian brand beer is one that you'd probably say has not much taste to it but its one i can drink without hating the taste while disregarding its flavor. Sapporo is a bit on the bitter side but i can drink it without too much issues. i really dont like Coors, despise the taste. the first bottle was fine until the last 1/4 of the bottle. the last part was disgustingly sweet and any other Coors after that tastes just as sweet from the start as the last 1/4 of the first bottle i ever drank.

@xiao: lol, i get the joke. unfortunately i prefer Cirno's design and abilities a bit more.

Beer, like eggnog, is an acquired taste. There are good beers and then there's Corona. I can drink most any beer without finding it too repugnant to down, but (hopefully without appearing too snobbish) there really aren't any mainstream beers that I'd go out of my way to buy for the taste alone. To me, beer is just something with alcohol in it that I can drink a lot of.

tl;dr - beer is only good for drinking games.

Let's talk real drinks. How about that Kraken? Meme drink of the masses, sure, but damn if it isn't actually pretty good.

Stuff's great for making Dark and Stormys, that's for sure. Two parts Kraken, three parts Bundaberg ginger beer and a splash of Angostura bitters if you want something a little different. Bloody magical, I could drink it by the pitcher.

i could get used to the bland beers if i wanted to but i see no point in doing so. id rather pay $20-30 for a 750 bottle and make some savings there. there's also the fact the liquor bottle is much smaller than any decent size case of beer with alot of bottle in it. the orange rum screwdriver is really good. the coolers are a bit slower to get drunk on than the +40% bottles

lol and here i was thinking you're talking about touhou games. i tried that once at anime convention, did go well never played it. i pretty much mashed buttons hoping for some sort of atk/combo.

i dont think i'll ever acquire a taste for beer, i cant even stand regular coffee. i dont mind those sweet mocha coffees but anything stronger or less fancy is just too bitter for me. im 90% tea drinker with the last 10% for occasional mochas. i havent ever tried corona but i dont ever plan on doing so. eggnog is fricking great, especially with a sprinkle of cinnamon or hot cocoa powder.

kraken rum is pretty good though its not my favorite one. currently Bacardi 8yr is the favorite but i havent really found one that i like the best just yet.
