Heroes get remembered...Legends never die. Group: Advanced Members Posts: 909 Member No.: 10,540 Joined: Jul 23rd 2005 Location: Hagersbush, MD | found this when i was Google Image searching for pics for my new forum site. Some of the Initial D Manga art was even taken and redone for it. The main character drives a Yellow 86 Levin. anyway, you guys tell me, voice your opinions. http://burapat.com/detail_gallery.asp?name...own%20Dangerous |

If DD's "Takumi" based guy thing whatever can beat that in a Levin, then its more fixed and messed up than Initial D I wouldnt mind seeing DD as an anime, probably will be entertaining for a while.

While I can't read Thai, the stuff they did have in English would suggest that the site is a legit company that licenses manga from Japan, China, Hong Kong, and Korea and translates it into Thai. BuraPat's Current Licensed Roster (in English) In the case of Downtown Dangerous, it is a Chinese Manga. Many of the cars here are familiar - considering that China shares the same markets with Japan as opposed to the US (so you see cars like the Skyline GT-R and no Acura cars badged as such). However, this racing manga has little problem showing other cars and situations that Shigeno has not and probably will not show - like the Honda NSX (piloted by a short-cropped blonde-haried girl, no less), a yellow Datsun 240Z, more than one S2000; more than one MR2; and a battle between the Yellow 86 and an RX-7 FD...in downtown traffic! Also, the driver of the AE86 is not a "young racing prodigy" like Takumi Fujiwara (whose character idea is a rip-off of Kazami Hayato of Cyber Formula), nor does it seem like any of the drivers of the other cars are "young-looking" as many of the drivers in Initial D. What does not help Kwong's Creations are some of the cars that are used...like a Blue GC8V, albeit rally painted; a Black Evolution III; and a White/Silvery Evolution IV. However, I wonder about release dates and "car premiers" for some of the cars here. On the flip side of the "drawings," there are only so many ways that racing battles can be shown - and this is cut down even more when you consider the use of "real-life" action stills for the basis of drawing manga (for example, Slam Dunk creator Takehito Inoue found himself immersed in a controversy over his use of NBA stills for his action shots for his manga). But since I have not read a single panel of Downtown Dangerous, I will reserve any "rip-off" comments until then. And if it turns out that the "DD" art is based on action photos of some touge run or D1 event or race, etc., then I have no complaints. But, honestly, I need more to go on before I announce "rip-off." Iketani Mako |

For instance: http://burapat.com/images/gallery/Downtown...rous/l/dd17.jpg Anyway, so what? It's pretty neat. Rather than say "zomg ripoff wtf!" just be like, "Oh, inspired by Initial D." After all, there's little difference between these drawings and the fanfics people are splooging over in these forums... except that fanfics are text-only, of course. Hope more Initial D-inspired stuff pops up... keep people satiated while they wait for more official stuff. |

I agree with tivx--if there were English scanlations for this, I'd read it in a heartbeat. |

Like the AE86 vs FD RX-7 pic, right? Besides, I somehow get the feeling that the creator of Downtown Dangerous isn't attached to a "Lonely Racing Samurai" concept as Shigeno-sensei is. That, the MR2 vs MR2 battle, the NSX, and the Datsun 240Z appearing in the CManga alone would be worth the read. Quick, someone call a North American licensor for this manga. We need more racing manga... Iketani Mako
