Now, there's a reason why I put FRS in quotation marks, but if you just came from the Random Thoughts thread, something happened between me and my mother to the tune of replacing my 919 with a car, which in this case... Is a Scion FRS. It's been 3-5 weeks as of yet and I only found a few examples - the cheapest being an Automatic for less than 20K. Thought I'd make a separate topic to use as a log. It's now day 83 and I think the new car smell is getting to me.

I also looked at a '13 Civic SI near my town for shits and giggles but....

Now why would you even consider an automatic FRS? tongue.gif

... I have to live in Seattle and its many hills during the latter half of the week. sad.gif

I mean, I got hill starts down pat but having to go through your 356th+ hill in a month would try your patience a little.

It wouldn't at all...

Hill starts are on a subconscious level, IMHO.

It kind of depends on the person, but I guess you're right.

I just mean, you'd be getting a rather fun car, not an econobox... cool.gif

Ehh, could be worse. I was stuck with this car for 7 hours as a rental, and I have no intentions on getting one after that catastrophe. Oh, I should probably say 90% of those 7 hours were spent behind the wheel.

Haha. Under-powered cars are not fun when it comes to climbing hills. XD

Be patient, or you may end up getting buyer's remorse. Well, either way you might get buyer's remorse, but it's worse when settling for something you know you probably aren't going to be happy with.

You sound like my sister. I've never had any issues climbing over the Grapevine in any car I've ever driven, so I can't really compare. That's been everything from a stockity-stock 280Z, a mostly stock 240Z, a '99 Contour SE, a '74 Maverick, a base-model PT Cruiser...etc etc etc.

And if you can climb the Grapevine without issue there ain't no hill that's gonna bother you.

Kind of makes me question, what kind of car would be underpowered enough to make hills a bother... Never had any issues either. laugh2.gif

Anything with a hill holder isn't fun for hill starts. Fucking obnoxious technology.

My MR2 requires me to downshift to 2nd gear up steep hills, or it would decelerate at WOT. It was understandably worse when the rear brakes were stuck and I needed to be in 1st gear to make it up at all. Could just be my car.

I hated the hill holder on my Legacy, especially if you let out the clutch just a little you'd start rolling. For someone learning to drive stick, it's unpredictable.

The older systems were honestly alright, but trying to get up the driveway from a stop with my dad's STi is an exercise in pulling your hair out. Doesn't disengage right away, drags the engine speed down, bogs, bucks, starts to roll back, clutch to keep the engine alive, re-engages, repeat.

Fuck you.

I had hill start assist on both my 1993 (gone) and 1995 (gone) Legacy wagons and I never felt bothered about them - all I had on my mind was rolling forward. They worked a treat.

Do yourself a favor and don't buy an AT 86. AT robs the car of pretty much the only thing it does well... FUN..

The lack of throttle response, no clutch kicking, no heel and toe...

Better off spending the money on something with better mpg and utility than an AT 86.

... Please tell me you read the last couple of posts.

I will add in that my folks would want to drive the car for fun, as well. Having a manual FRS sounds fun for me and a select few (brother, father, and a couple of cousins), but...

Oh well if you're buying a car for the family then that's a whole different ball game I guess.

See, they have their own car (Mother a '10 Toyota Camry, Father a beat up '95 Lexus ES300) but I have this gut feeling they would want to drive it one day.
