On mangareader the manga is up to chapter 686, then browsed here a bit and somehow can't find the last chapters translated. Does anyone have a link?

I already saw the final stage...final, and now want to read how the manga ends. Thanks a lot.

Also an unrelated question: last year I reached @initialD_PR, (maybe foolishly) hoping that they would address "Bunta's gift" in the upcoming anime (of the time) or in the movie. Has any word been given out about that matter? Anyway, thanks.

Completely translated manga doesn't exist as far as I know. A lot of groups stopped at a certain point and are either done with it or are moving verrrrrry slowly towards the end.

The "bunta's gift" question has been debated over and over. The manga didn't address it, among a lot of other things that went unaddressed. The anime didn't go over it. The upcoming movies are a retelling of the first six volumes of the manga, not a continuation of the series, so they won't answer the question either. Consider it just another thing Shigeno forgot about.

The previous group stopped because real life got in the way for the translator. Since then there hasn't been any movement towards any group or person to finish the remainder of the Initial D manga which is a little over 2 and a half volumes (approx. 500 pages).

The funny thing is that there are even parts of the manga shared on manga reading sites that use scans from the Tokyopop version for volumes 6 to I think just before Project D begins.

The topic about "Bunta's Gift" or let's say "The Final Favor" is a bit of an open end, it could be he forgot about it or he purposedfully left it unanswered giving a working space for people like some in this forum for fanfics and speculations. facepalm.gif

I'd prefer seeing proper translations of the volumes that got lazy Tokyopop scans...

Honestly, the scanlation scene is abysmal, especially with regards to Initial D. There are raws of those volumes available, but I doubt anyone would be willing to do a proper translation and typeset job of them.

Unfortunately that's all that is available, but it's not like they are that terrible.

Uh, they are pretty terrible. I could go through a laundry list of reasons why, but I really shouldn't have to.

Nobody is going to take the time to go over the TP chapters.

I would if it wasn't so time-consuming and I had a TL person.

They're readable and not really that bad unless your a purist and can't get over 2 things: the nicknames and the occasional slang (e.g. "Ig-meister").

DUWANG scans are also "readable" but that doesn't make them not shit. It's more than just nicknames and slang, too. The translations in general are simply not credible. Just getting the gist of a story is not getting the story. Tokyopop failed at their literal job to provide an accurate translation and quality print of the manga overseas.

And that's just the problem with the Tokyopop manga. There's a whole other world of "what the fuck are you doing" on the side of the scans themselves. That they are even scans of the Tokyopop books to begin with is outrageous. Proper, quality scanlations should be sourced from the highest-quality material possible, which in this case would be the original Japanese books. Another problem is that these books were scanned without having been debound first. As a result, you get blurred margin lines toward the spine side of the scan, most noticeable in two-page spreads like this:

That's a huge no-no. Also, the resolution is low, and sometimes they aren't even cropped properly (see the pages visible at the right side here):

At least they had enough sense to make sure the contrast was nice and sharp. Of course, since no one had to do any translating/typesetting, the matter of those duties is a non-issue, but there is always plenty of room for major fuck-ups there (poor font choice, poor typesetting, watermarks, cancerous memespouting translations [not really common but always a fear], end-of-chapter group circlejerk title pages, etc.).

The better option would be to completely ignore the original dialog and just go apeshit with over the top stuff. Can't make it worse than TP, right?

I guess I just don't see them as being all that bad since it could have been much worse (like the stuff Tokyopop did with the English dub *shudders*).

I'm trying to draw the correlation between Tumblr and the ghetto. Falling a bit short, I'm afraid.

9 chapters released in one week seems pretty amazing to me!
And they want to scanlate all remaining chapters, so all the more reason to be happy :-)

Ha ha, thankfully it never got that bad in the Tokyopop's translation of the manga AFAIK.
