Wasn't sure whether to post in the two year RX thread or make a new one, eventually decided on the latter.

Does anybody know what the chassis code for the second generation RX-8 is? (specifically looking for the R3's but a general one would be fine too) I know the first generation's was SE3P but the second generation's code have been fairly elusive in my searches for some reason.

Thanks.

The chassis code does not change, because it's not a different chassis. Mazda took the existing SE3P/JMZSE chassis and modified it slightly to be more rigid. The R3 has a better suspension and crossmember, not a different chassis, thus the chassis code is not changed.

Fun fact: All USDM RX-8 VINs start with JM1FE1. The VIN does not have a designated character to differentiate R3s from the crowd.

I am not an Rx8 expert, but the FD went up to Series 8

so by that logic, an Rx8 is S9 for first gen and S10 for 2nd gen.

Similar to FC's in that S4's are earlier models and S5 are later models.

True- But wasnt that because the FDs were "still rx7s"? Didnt series 1-3 start with the first gen 7s? Shouldnt it be a Series 1 Rx8?
