What a sorry, sad bunch of enthusiasts we are where there wasn't even a thread before release. Well, today's the day, and I have today off, so I'll be diving in head first once the system updates finish up.

Cuz everyone has huge ragers for Gran Turismo here and wouldn't dare appreciate any other game. Sad, really. :/

That said, I have my Limited Edition in the mail from Amazon now. I should get it soon. Already got my Download Code for my pre order bonus content. smile.gif

Because it doesn't hit here until tomorrow morning, but you can be sure come tomorrow afternoon my house is going to be filled with the sounds of rotary engines, squealing tires and bouts of freestyle swearing after hitting a wall in the last lap of an endurance race in a class F car. laugh.gif

Some of us don't like cheating.

But that's assuming we get to play the damn game. After somehow managing to score the Limited Edition and a preorder pack for the price of the regular, despite not preordering, I brought it home from the store only to find out that the play disc is absolutely shagged.

Not the occasional skip here and there. Oh no, that'd be too simple. This is a full-on 'the track has no floor, races don't end and I can't install the damned thing to hard disk' level of boned. Way to QC, guys! Now, to hopefully get a goddamn working copy tomorrow when they open back up. dry.gif

Dare I say. This game is fun.

I'm a little disappointed though. They've addressed the physics, and it's a huge improvement over FM3. But everything else just seems rehashed, and the AI is f**king ridiculous. I'm pretty sure it's impossible to go a race without someone smashing into you.

Great game if you've never been into Forza before. Otherwise, I'm a little let down to be honest. Love the Autovista stuff with Clarkson though.
Though, Forza 4 might have some of the best and realistic sounding cars I've heard in a console game.

I really like how the exhaust note now changes when you change the exhaust, and they added flames to go with the exhaust pops of the higher power cars, such as the carbon copy of my Evo which somehow makes S-class... That's a ton of car when you think about it.

They still haven't fixed the drag racing though. I just don't get how you can nail the trap speeds for a certain horsepower but god forbid you get the trap times right, too. How can an AWD car trapping ~120 run a 12.4 no matter how you launch or shift? Retarded.

Oh well, at least once tuners really get into this, calcs come out, etc, I'll be able to jump competitively into online.

Posted by: 08TTGSL Oct 12 2011, 11:50 PM
Im actually surprised that if you get affinity level of 4 all parts are free!!! This is making the game way too fun now

Posted by: Tessou Oct 13 2011, 02:28 AM
Have they fixed the glaring issue that is reusing old models? I remember the FC3S looked f**king terrible in F3 since they obviously ported it from F2.

How do you make an old boxy car look better anyway? tongue.gif

Posted by: Tessou Oct 13 2011, 06:55 AM
By providing correct reflection and texture maps. A lot of cars in the older games had really afwul reflection, especially on the headlight glass. The R32 is a glaring (literally) example of this problem, and they didn't really fix it. Ever.

Posted by: Phantom_R32 Oct 13 2011, 09:53 AM
Did anyone else notice that some cars just look.. weird? It's not the case of being imported, it just looks like the designers screwed the looks up.

Like the R32 and 22B for example, they just look a little off for some reason. Especially the 22B.

The FC is an awesome looking car. But it seems to look weird in every Forza. I think it looks kinda weird in this one too.

Posted by: am3pkcet Oct 13 2011, 01:15 PM
I guess if your priority is paint textures and glossy reflections, feel free to play gran turismo 5. I'll be too busy driving every car in dash cam and enjoying the hell out of the custom career and other great features to care that the paint reflections aren't perfect on a car that's been out of production for two decades.

Posted by: Tessou Oct 13 2011, 01:18 PM
I'm not singling out that one car, as it's a problem on many of them. It's very obvious that the Forza team put more care into newer and/or more famous vehicles than they did with others. They did this by simply porting models and texture maps from the previous game into the new one. A TON of cars in Forza 3 were simply ports from Forza 2, with some rushed interior modeling done.

It's not going to stop me from buying the game, as I most definitely will buy Forza 4. I still have my limited edition copy of Forza 3 despite its flaws.

Posted by: Yoshida Seiji Oct 13 2011, 01:29 PM
The interiors in Forza look like shit to be honest though. laugh.gif I'd rather they didn't have them at all than half ass them.

For every one thing done right in this game, at least five are totally f**ked up.

It's still pretty fun though.

Posted by: Steve Oct 13 2011, 02:15 PM
So, how is this compared to GT5?

Posted by: Yoshida Seiji Oct 13 2011, 02:22 PM
Graphically? Shit.

Physics? Not as good, but worlds better than FM3

Car selection? Meh, so-so. Some cars I wish were there, some cars I could care less about. I think this part is more a matter of opinion than anything. I don't really care for driving a bunch of random super cars and stuff.

All in all, it's not a terrible game, just, I feel like if you've never played Forza before, it'd be something great to jump into, otherwise, you're not really missing much. The autovista commentary with Clarkson is awesome, but other than that. meh not so much.

Also, the AI is absolutely terrible, possibly the worst in any game I've ever played. I feel like I'm playing online with 12 year olds the whole times. AI shouldn't ram into the side of you trying to cut you off, right off the starting line. Ya know? I've yet to go a single race without having the AI smash into me.

Some people don't want 100 Skylines, 50 Silvias, 30 S2000s, and a special event for one of your three different Prius cars. I think Forza has a great selection without a one-sided slant for any single car type, country, or manufacturer.

Compared to GT5? Who's brainless Zombie drivers stay on a pre-determined path regardless of you or any other car on the road? Who fail to aknowledge your existance? Who will ram you just as well if you dare enter their programmed racing line? Gran Turismo's AI has been a floundering joke for nearly 15 years and 5 has shown no improvement whatsoever. Want to talk about the worst racing AI of all time? Look no farther than the embarassment that the GT series has become. I found Forza's AI wonderful. I don't know how 4 is (Amazon says it should arrive tomorrow. Note to self: don't get the free shipping next time), but I never had a problem with the AI in 3. It offered a challange, but was not flawless. Pressured opponents will make mistakes and they will drive differently depending on how you drive around them.

Posted by: Yoshida Seiji Oct 13 2011, 03:26 PM
Trust me, I'm by no means saying the GT AI is amazing.

But, you'll see. FM4's AI might be the worst in racing game history. It's f**king TERRIBLE.
It's nice to see they actually screw up sometimes, but even when you clearly have the corner, they'll just charge in and smash the f**k out of you. It's ridiculous to the point where I don't want to playin the world tour or whatever mode anymore, I've just been playing online with friends.

Like I said, I've not had a chance to play 4 yet, but if that's your problem, perhaps you should be more aware of the other cars and not take such an aggressive line through the corner....

Just...trust me on this one. You'll see exactly what I mean. I've yet to meet a person that has disagreed with me on the AI. laugh.gif

Posted by: am3pkcet Oct 13 2011, 03:36 PM
No, I know what you're talking about; at least in 3. Feel free to tell me how 4 is different. Every time I took an agressive early apex from the wide outside, some car was sitting inside of me trying to take an inner line and would probably hit me (usually because I didn't see him thanks to the limitations of not seeing out my side windows). That's when I would hit rewind and make the adjustment accordingly. If you're talking about off the line, pretty much every game is a set of bumper cars off the line, unless it's some Need For Speed thing and the track is 1/2 mile wide.

Posted by: Yoshida Seiji Oct 13 2011, 03:39 PM
No aggressive line or anything.

Say, for example, green light. Start your race. Suddenly, a car literally off the line, makes a sharp left turn and smashes right into you trying to get in front of you. I'm like "wat"

That's happened to me a hand full of times. Just really dumb shit like that. Like I said, it feels like playing with a bunch of 12 year olds online, it seems they are intentionally trying to crash you. rofl

Posted by: am3pkcet Oct 13 2011, 03:44 PM
So... that has nothing to do with actual racing, and is only a problem off the line? Which plagues just about every racing game?

Huh that's weird. 'Cause almost everyone on my facebook is complaining about it. laugh.gif I don't think I can really explain it any better than I have. The AI is garbage and is way too aggressive?

Physics aren't as realistic as some people like to think. Sorry, I can't take a video game reviewer's word for it. Just going on what I know based on the sheer amount of track time I've had since turning 16. laugh.gif

Physics are hugely improved over FM3, but I still don't feel they are realistic.

Yep. I post it every time someone says I hate GT. I don't hate GT, I hate GT5 because it was a massive and monumental let down.

And you're honestly the first I've ever heard that from, regarding the AI in Forza. It seems every review, magazine, website, and player (that I've talked with) disagree with you. And I know I would actively take an agressive AI over a waste of time, dumb, mindless AI, that has no interaction with the player at all. I guess I don't understand what works and what doesn't work in videogames because I've only been playing racing videogames off and on for the past 17 years and four generations of consoles and arcades. thumbsup.gif

I'm just gonna leave it at that man. You'll see what I mean. I hate that every time I try to have a legitimate conversation with you, it turns into you attempting to bait me or start a debate.

I explained to you why the AI sucks, sorry, I don't know what else to tell you, you'll experience it for yourself when your copy gets in. Is any of that other stuff really necessary? I'm not claiming to be better than anyone at anything. I'm just telling you my opinion about a video game based on my real life experiences. If you don't want to hear it, don't ask. Simple as that.

I get that. But the point I was getting at is who does it better? Gran Turismo is pretty much unanimously accepted as having the worst AI in any racing game. Blindly following a programmed line while ignoring all other cars has been one of the biggest complaints plaguing the Gran Turismo since it's original title. The series has a lot of things going for it, but opponent AI is definitely not one of them. All I wanted to hear was what you use as a benchmark for AI in racing games. If Forza is so bad, and GT is so-so, what is good (to you)?

No console game, that's for sure. I prefer playing online. I'm just so used to racing with other people on shit like rfactor. Also GT ain't so-so with AI, it sucks too. Though, the 2.0 update has improved it a little.

Posted by: Tessou Oct 13 2011, 04:45 PM
AI has never mattered to me because I almost exclusively play time trials just to f**k around with the cars and take photos. I don't think I've ever actually finished a Forza game. Maybe the first... but that was a long time ago.

Apples to orange, really. That was the point I was making. No AI system is ever going to be perfect. But Forza acts more like people than any other game I've come across. There are some agressive drivers and some passive drivers, they make mistakes and are suseptable to pressure. I haven't seen another game do that successfully.

I really liked the career mode and completed FM3 through the full six seasons. I had 316 wins out of 319 races playing on hard opponent difficulty, ABS on, Stability and Traction off, manual sequential, assist brake off, assist line off, damage limited. I'd personally rather time attack or play against the AI than race a bunch of idiots online who think it's a better idea to drive backwards around the track, take terrible lines with poor braking, or otherwise cause havok and accidents.

Posted by: Spaz Oct 13 2011, 06:08 PM
When you can come bearing down on someone in an Evo and have them back off their line as you dive inside next to them at entry or out around them at the exit, that's a decent AI, IMO. Those same actions are suicide in GT.

Be nice if people did that online instead of trying to power through it in their RWD and then losing it straight into your side and spinning you both out. It's like... I'm faster bro, get the f**k over it and just let me by instead of screwing us both out of otherwise decent placing... I had that happen like 5 times today where someone in a RWD just couldn't take the fact that I was passing them in a corner, dropped the hammer and spun it directly into me, spinning me out and dropping me from possible podium down to the rear of the pack.

I don't race online because the drivers are better -they're worse- I race online because it's more fun beating people than it is beating computers.

Posted by: Tessou Oct 13 2011, 07:49 PM
The best part about Forza 4 isn't beating the newbs, it's showing everyone online that I did.

Nah you can't. The swaps kinda suck this time around. I've not really swapped the other 13b in any RX-7 yet. But I know once you swap the 3-rotor you can't mod it at all. Which is lame.

Also, you can't swap the 1UZ in the MKIV Supra anymore either. How lame is that? I kinda hope they go back to how it was before in 3 eventually. I want more tuning options for my swaps. : /
I really wish they would add inter-brand swapping. I wanna put rotary engines and 2jz's in everything.

Yes, because a diehard rotary fanboy with a fish tank made out of rotor housings is going to commit the blasphemy of putting a non-rotary engine into an RX-7. laugh.gif

^ Also, rotary swaps into everything would be awesome. Put the biggest, loudest and most fuel-inefficient rotary ever into a Prius, just to make hybrid owners shit a brick. Mazdaspeed's unofficial motto comes to mind. awesome.gif

I'd rather swap an LSx into an RX-7 than a lot of engines. At least with the LSx engines you're only adding a hundred or so lbs to the car. It's a pretty light weight motor for the torque it puts out. Stock LS1 power is nothing to brag about though.

Got my copy in the mail yesterday, but only played around with it for about 30 minutes. Completed the first two series of races in the world tour, bought an S2000 and set it up to look exactly like mine (AP2 front/rear, Enkei RPF1) and I've been messing around with that. I'll probably have at it some more tonight.

Oh yea, and the Kinect thing for this game...really gimmicky and a total waste of time.

Posted by: Tessou Oct 14 2011, 10:03 AM
Most kinect features in games are worthless unless the game is specifically built for kinect from the ground up.

Also, using "beast" as an adjective went out of style right around when the same word became drug slang. It makes me think of ignorant youth when I read it that way.

Level 5 - 2010 Ford Focus RS
Level 10 - 2010 Chevy Camaro SS
Level 15 - 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI Quattro
Level 20 - 2009 Bugatti Veyron 16.4
Level 30 - #92 BMW Rahal Letterman Racing M3 GT2
Level 40 - #007 Aston Martin Racing DBR9
Level 50 - #9 Peugeot Sport Total 908

Huzzah!

Tuning in this game is so retarded.

Maxed out 20b = 660hp
Maxed out 13bREW = 640hp
Maxed out 13bMSP = 713hp

What the f**k is that shit? How does the MSP make more power than the REW? That just makes absolutely no sense. And by that logic, the 20bMSP should make way more power than both of those.

This game is fun but so stupid at the same time. Also, scenery looks like shit.

Posted by: Phantom_R32 Oct 15 2011, 11:35 AM
The scenery looks better than GT5's, in my opinion.

Depends on where you are in GT5. Some of the courses look absolutely magnificent while others look like flat, bland, PS2 carry-overs.

Yeah, I can pretty much agree with that. That's more or less how I feel about FM4 too. Some areas look really good, some just look like ports.

Forza 4 is proving to be more fun than GT5.

Too bad no Jetta MK5, so i had to make do with the Bora 4Motion (Jetta MK4 with 4WD)

Though don't have anything of my A-class or B-class killers in there... But both are kinda sleeper anyway. Both of which might end up in the storefront soon...

B-class is by far the most rewarding class online vs A-class in F3. The driver matters so much more because the level of modification of the cars is much lower, save for a few of the Hondas I've seen that seem to be able to cover up anything (and win only because they started in front of me, despite my faster times).

Got my copy! Once the living room is cleaned up, I'll play it and generally not do anything towards finishing the career mode. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Yoshida Seiji Oct 16 2011, 11:31 AM
It's all good. I pretty much just play enough to where I can buy whatever I want, and then don't go any further in career mode. So it's usually not that much considering I like all the old shitty Japanese cars.

Posted by: Tessou Oct 16 2011, 12:03 PM
^ Exactly the same with me. I'll sit around and toy with old cars for days before even attempting to complete a career race.

Looking at the car list... I'm still disappointed that they couldn't bring in some obvious desirables (and fix glaring errors). No TL Type S? No Z31 300ZX/Fairlady? No S7 TT?! They still haven't fixed the magical 1994 240SX hatchback that never existed?

SUPER glad the AW11 finally got added. That will be my main car, guaranteed, since it's quickly becoming more and more official that I will own another one IRL very soon. Perhaps they'll add the 222D as DLC sometime later.

Fujimi is more fun to me than NBR. :x

All I do is drift on the game anyway, I'm down.

Posted by: Spaz Oct 16 2011, 03:02 PM
I'm not much of a Fuji fan, but not pushing to 100% on the course is perfectly fine with me.

NBR is nice because there's room to test and compare on the straight, as well as plenty of corners, but I can understand that it's not that fun to drift on.

Posted by: Nomake Wan Oct 16 2011, 05:54 PM
I loves me some Fujimi Kaido. Actually I went and did stupid upgrades to a DeLorean for the shit of it (leaving the gear ratios the same just to be stupid) and took it to the downhill for lulz. I crashed the shit out of it but by the time I was 3/4 done with the course I pretty much had the hang of it. I think I'm gonna go adjust the ratios some then try again, it's a heavy as hell car so keeping it on the road with that much power was basically just left-foot brake weight shifting. laugh.gif

Gotta do stuff with the Z too. Totally depressed that they changed the front airdam from Forza 3 though, totally depressed. Ah well, so instead I took the front and rear bumpers off so it looks like my car's sad WIP state in real life. awesome.gif

I only beat his D-class lap time (Mitsu Colt vs. my MR2). I'm certain I'd get destroyed if I attempted his Evo times. biggrin.gif

Also, f**king hate the drift score bullshit. To get a "perfect" drift, you need to rack up 5,000 points, which is basically impossible unless you chain 5 or 6 together. I played on Fujimi old downhill for about 3 hours this morning and pulled off a few 4,000+ combos, but nothing got me that coveted achievement. Sad face.

240mph achievement is easy. Get a Veyron, tune it to 1,200hp, throw it on the benchmark oval. You'll get it about 2/3 of the way through the first lap.

I hate the AI in this one. They LOVE hitting you as you enter a corner, which naturally causes your lap time to become "dirty" and not count. Assholes.

So basically it's like playing with the AI from GT where they just follow a line and don't adjust much for anything?

Posted by: Tessou Oct 17 2011, 03:26 PM
They adjust in that they seem magnetized to your car... come in from the outside, they crush you into the wall. Come in from the inside, they put you into the wall again. Sometimes they just fly out of the pack to go after you.

Seriously, play the king of the mountain challenges sometime and watch the "traffic" cars suddenly go nuts and chase you.

Iduno, maybe I'm just not seeing what you guys are seeing; the AI is totally fine by me. The only time an AI tries to ram me is if I cut directly into their line, aggressively cut them off, or try to force them onto the grass on a straightwaway (intentional or not). But even then, it's pretty rare. Off the line is very little drama too, and I can often weave my way 3 or 4 spots ahead by the first corner without hitting anyone else. They seem aware and reactive to my driving; something I've not seen any other game come close to doing. This perspective is from about 40 events completed in the career mode. So....... feel free to share video of whatever you guys are talking about, cuz I'm just not seeing it ermm2.gif Keep in mind, the kinds of lines you take in a time attack run are completely different than the ones you take with a full field of opponent cars. I mean hasn't Days of Thunder taught you anything??? laugh.gif

Also, I think the only time I've ever gotten any drift points was if I entered a corner too hot and slid wide by accident. laugh.gif

Posted by: Tessou Oct 17 2011, 03:35 PM
I guess play style might be a factor. I tend to drive pretty aggressively to compensate for lack of power, and that means I have to cut the line occasionally.

Posted by: Jason_H. Oct 17 2011, 04:07 PM
Rossi, Takashi(sp?) and Williams play very aggressively against me. I try to be a gentleman. I try not to hit anyone, or too badly at worst. But no, they pound me from behind as I enter a corner. Unless I enter from the inside(lol), they pull the stupidest shit against me. I hate driving like a dick, but if it's vs the AI, no love lost. It's funny how badly they react to a good, dirty shot that sends them spinning, can't handle their own medicine. The AI is improved in this one, but some of the drivers drive me up a wall sometimes.

Posted by: Tessou Oct 17 2011, 04:51 PM
As I don't really care about race times, I have no issue running their asses off the road. Hot laps are where I seriously try for times.

M. Rossi is an asshole. Seriously, he is programmed that way. Google M. Rossi and see what you find. I have no problems with the AI in FM4. Only time I get hit is when they are turned to "Professional" and I am in one of my high-powered cars that have crappy brakes, my braking point is earlier than theirs, and since they tailgate, they eat bumper. I can't think of one time where it actually knocked me off my line.

Posted by: Tessou Oct 17 2011, 06:34 PM
M. Rossi has been an asshole since FM2. I think Turn 10 deliberately set his aggression to twice the maximum allowable value just to f**k with players. Doesn't help that he almost ALWAYS has the best car possible for whatever race you're in.

Enjoy watching him bully you off the track again and again and again.

I'm just disappointed they don't have the Le Mans winning Audi R18.... Their first closed cockpit LMP. Oh well... they still have their open tops and that POS Peugeot.

SA22 and FB don't get any lovin' from video games these days, though, the SA is in the new Wangan Midnight. Crazy, considering how much it did in motorsports back in the day. Same with the earlier RX cars.

Hold up, they're in what now? I think I might have to start hitting the arcade more often. And yeah, now that you mention it, I would totally rock an RX-3 if they were added. Hell, they did that, every Ausrotary member I know would buy a 360 and two copies of the game. laugh.gif

I love how the RX-7 series talks about Mazda's awesome rotary history, yet only allows you to use three of their rotary cars. RX-8 MSP? Really? F**k that noise, at least bring in an R3.

I finally got my 99 Viper tuned out and running A-S class. But even after cranking it up to max tune and taking it around a few tracks, I'm still baffled. It's not nearly as stable as it felt in F3, disturbingly so. Not even "lol well you DO have 800 torque to your back wheels bro". I had that under control in 3, but here, I either understeer horribly or spin out with even 20-30% gas. Super disappointed, and I don't want to resort to trying it with the AWD drivetrain. I remember how grossly silly that was. facepalm.gif

^ Um, tune it better?

At the very least for a starting point:

:| I thought you'd assume I've been experimenting like mad. So far the only good setup I can manage is a mid HP, low weight setup. Eats up corners and hauls on uphills, but terrible on straights compared to its class opponents. I can't seem to strike a good balance that works. But I'll start with that and see where it takes me. Thanks man.

Also: For anyone who wants a good chuckle and has at least level 4 loyalty to Nissan. Take the Micra, swap in an S15 engine, and then cram it full of parts and take it to the Nurb. Enjoy. The little shitbox from hell. laugh.gif

Posted by: Tessou Oct 28 2011, 09:35 AM
Drifting isn't wrong or even difficult in FM4. You just have to play with the settings a little bit. Stock settings will typically get you the TXR effect. tongue.gif

I was confused when I saw videos of people doing f**king donuts mid-drift and drifting backwards and shit in stunt videos. I was unaware cars could do that. But I'm a long way from that yet...will be fun as shit when I get there, though!

In the meantime, scrapped the Viper for the moment until I figure out what is causing it choke on corner exits, regardless of differentials, tire pressure adjustments, or drivetrain. The 2004 Impreza, however, runs like a champ, so I'll just have fun with that in the meantime.

They rather look similar. Graphic is more about personal preference. Car still look better animated in GT5 in my opinion.

What's most impressive is how my run look about the same. It point out that tire simulation are on part on both games. Polyphony Digital put Turn 10 tire simulation to shame if you think how they produced FM3 & GT5.

It a make insidesimracing look like a bunch of n00b when they talk about physic(kk, they were always from the beginning). It turn out that physic is somehow similar on both Forza 4 & GT5.

I should say that about the entire game. But then again, my ridiculous pickiness with cars is the real problem.

Posted by: ddr_hero Jan 15 2012, 01:02 PM
I reviewed the most recent pack.

1981 scirocco S

so here we have the S model of the volkswagen Scirocco. Every time someone reviews this car, they mention that it's named after a wind. That's because there's not much to say about the car. It's underpowered, it corners reasonably well, mainly because it can't get it's ass over 65MPH, Forza 4 simulates new condition cars. This particular car feels 30 years old. And not in any semblance of a good way. This car has a spongey suspension, but reasonably good neutural steer. The accelleration is non existant. There really isn't much to say about this car. It's junk. Moving on.

1986 Alfa Romeo Spider Quadrifoglio Verde

ok, so i'm not even going to pretend I can pronounce this one. Fuck you i'm from cleveland. This is a rather nice looking car. It's got very 80's wheels with large covers, and tiny brake vents. It's not super ultra light weight for 86, but it sure feels like it. It's about 2.5K Lbs. The 115 HP is more than sufficent. Infact anymore and I say you'd ruin it. This car is very tossable, like a classic british roadster. Even though it's italian. The car seems to like to get up to 80ish MPH, then just stay there. It gtlides through the turns. Although at higher speeds, it DOES understeer a tad. Other than that, it's very well balanced. I like it! It's a happy, fun little car that's fun to photograph, and fun to drive. It will not win races, and mods will ruin it, but it's a neat car to throw around corners at your leisure. It's a toy. You play with it. It's not a tool.

1977 Ford Escort RS 1800

let's just get this out in the open. This car was chosen for painters, not performers. It dosen't look particularly special, but it's a SUPER SPESHUL model, once again of a car that wasn't very good in the first place. I can turd into a hotdog bun and put all the ketchup and mustard I want on it, it's still a turd. This car's suspension isn't just floppy, it's an elevator. You turn, and the car nearly flips. It's so goddamn bad. It throws itself around a corner, and right into the dirt. Is it trying to get back to it's natural territory? Seeing as there aren't any datsun behinds on the track, i'd say not. Bottom line, it's an exclusive piece of shit. Accellertion are decent for 1977, but the powerband is like, 200 RPMs wide at the very tippy top. Take a corner, and your torque disappears.

You're going to have to mod the CRAP out of this shitpile for it to be worth a damn. Paint it, admire it, then garage it. Dial 1800 for fail.

1988 Pontiac fiero

Oh fiero. You're the butt of so many jokes. This car, is FANTASTIC. It's still underpowered, because americans can't build a 4cyl, but MAN does it corner nicely. Dare I say it, it almost feels like a baby NSX. It's so balanced. Most likely by accident. But this car absolutly dashes around corners, and doesn't leave it's powerband. The engine sounds rather nice, but the interior is rather wretchid. The steering wheel is ugly, and you can smell the plastic through the game.

All in all, this is a great car. The germans and the japanese should have breathed a sigh of relief that we quit making them when we did. This could have easily thwomped any entry from nissan toyota or honda had it ben developed further.

2011 Ford SVT Raptor

this is a big, stupid truck. Nobody's going to use it for work, it's got this loud paintjob, and it's too high up to be worth a damn on pavement. Trying to see out of it is like trying to drive while sitting on top of a normal car. First corner I took, it PLOWED into the outside. Then the next corner, and the next corner, and the next corner. This thing NEEDS the dirt so it can throw it's massive weight around to make the thing corner. On pavement it wallows like a dead whale. Accelleration is decent, brakes are nothing special, and the bodykits make it look like a trophy truck. But if you TREAT it like a trophy truck, it bends the frame.

This is the hot hatch of trucks. It promises to be a race truck, while still being a roadable truck, and doesn't do either. It's too flimsy to handle odd road racing, and to be honest, what roadable truck wouldn't be? And it's too silly to get any real work done. This truck is great for making a lot of road noise with knobby tires and an aftermarket exaust installed by the factory for a big mark up, while picking up bulking powder at GNC, playing nickleback, and cradling your oakley sunglasses and tribal armband tattooed flabby bicep. It's a big stupid truck, for big stupid people, with big stupid steroid pecs and beer bellies.

2011 Suzuki Monster hillclimb special

And here's the crown jewel of this pack.

Not so fast. This is infact the famous suzuki of Gran Turismo fame. Don't front. This car wasn't a winner till recently. That was the toyota tacoma and the celica built by rod millan. Nobody ever heard of the escudo pikes peak racer till Gran Turismo 2. Many people never even heard of the Pikes Peak hillclimb, so Gran Turismo put this car on the map. Or atleast it's ancestor. So how does it stack up?

In GT5, the escudo has some evil turbo lag. The monster does not. The escudo acellerates faster than stink. As does the monster, but the monster feels limited compared to the escudo. It feels toned down. The downforce is there, so you can talk almost any corner at 100+MPH, but I dunno, the car doesn't feel Right. It's like you make a delicious soup, but left out the lemon juice. It's just missing something.

This car isn't going to win aganst the cars it's classed with. It just won't. It's limited to 150ish MPH, and it can't turn as well. It has so much downforce, and it's setup for offroad, AND it's so powerful, that it can't help but either understeer, or require constant braking. If you do somehow manage to make it break traction, which is a feat considering the pornographic amount of grip it has, it snaps right back into it's groove.

All in all, this car doesn't belong in this game. It's away from it's natural habitat. It's a orca in cleveland. It just doesn't belong.

1957 maserati 300S

oh boy. Another hyper expensive vintage racer. Whoo hoo. Let's get one thing out in the open. I'm not discussing herritage, i'm discussing how it feels. And this thing feels AWFUL! It just can't seem to fucking change direction. It's like a broken dial or something. You point it at 3-oclock, and it wallows back to 2:45. then you point it at 3:15, and it wallows back to 2 fucking 45. this car, is such a fucking chore to drive. It's tires won't let it brake properly because they're the width of CDs, it skids off the road and into the gravle trap if you try and keep the speed up, the powerband is pretty wide, but the gears are Looooooooooooooooooong, so you'll drop out of the powerband if you're not careful. It does accelerate quite quickly, and has some long legs, but it has zero grip. It constantly understeers, Short and sweet, overpriced, can't turn, screw it.

2012 maserati MC GT4

now THIS is what I call a grand tourer. It does 0-60 in negative 4 seconds, and it grips the track like a super magnet. The visibility is fantastic, and best of all, it has a fine timepiece in the dash. It's a racecar, with a high quality timepiece. This car would be silly if it weren't so good. It changes direction like hummingbird on speed, it's top speed seems to be infinity, and it's powerband is always there. It's cornering is slightly partial ro oversteer, but it doesn't exactly slide. It does have some slip, but not so much to be called a slide. Very very VERY good car.maybe my favorite of the pack

2012 Mazda RX-8

so this is the last RX-8. Good riddance. This is supposed to be mazda going out with a bang? Is the bang the enevitable blown apex seal? This thing is junk! No torque, power a bit too high, but not honda tippy top of the revs style, sorta kinda understeers, then SNAP oversteers like a broken MR2, the chassis feels like it's made of cold bubblegum. Kinda tough, but stretches into floppyness if that makes sense. It starts out tough, but lean on it, and it gets softer then snaps back when you release pressure. The best term to describe this car is rubber. Then vaccum cleaner, then rubbish.

1967 Chevelle SS-396

So this is a chevelle with a super rare dealer option that pops geriatric viagra assisted boners halfmast all across barret jackson. And I gotta say, this is too much engine for such a shit car. The chassis is a like if you picked spaghetti out of a dog's ass. It understeers so bad into corners, you're going to bring the rear out. But when you do, it STAYS out. It accellerates like a bat out of hell, but the LRA and leaf springs won't let the power stay down be there any bumps. Unless you're trying to drift like a 12 year old, driving this car is a chore. It really is. The brakes don't match up to the engine, so you're always on them, this car is due in for a date with madame LeGuardrail.

That's kinda the point. It's for hilarity factor. Nothing says "fuck you, welcome to MURRIKA" like seeing one of these tearing ass uphill in your rear view, shortly before you get shunted into the nearest mountainside. It's not meant to be a racer at all. It's meant to be gaudy, glib and entirely muscle-flexing. I wouldn't genuinely use the adjective "American", but well, it is. It fits that stereotype, and we all know it does. That's why it's included, that's why we're buying it and putting all sorts of goofy shit on it before we completely total it on Fujimi Kaido. Takumi would dust the thing, for argument's sake, but he'd need to get to the first corner first. There's not a lot of room on the road with this thing stomping around.

Picture it... Thank you. awesome.gif

Pinto Power!

Posted by: Jason_H. Jan 25 2012, 12:56 AM
Oh man, I need to get both those designs, especially the C&C nostalgia. And who knew the Pinto could push near-1000 hp? Change nothing on the exterior, and I don't think sleeper would entirely justify it--it would be the Pinto straight outta hell.

And anyone else take the Fiero up to max tune? I never did get around to getting my 240mph achieve, because I have an irrational hatred for the Veyron and I never did get a McClaren F1. That and I wanted to be creative about what car I could take to those speeds. I initially tried a Nissan '71 Skyline, over 1000 hp, but it couldn't crack 230. Still drove like the definition of asshole. Then I tried a Pinto, and got a little closer. But the Fiero? Good god, lowered the body all the way, took the spoiler off, slapped on a Knight Rider design and spaced out my gears. Hit 248 on Le Mans before I ran out of road. So satisfying.

Edit: This needed its own post, but I'll just throw it in here.

Best all around of them all, IMO. A little wobbly at high speeds, but has great power and cornering ability. A great car through most all of the classes, especially A and S.

This, this, a million times this. It's been far too long of a wait for an SA/FB chassis to make a video game.

Posted by: Tessou Mar 29 2012, 10:16 AM
The last games I played where the SA22 was available were Sega GT 2002/Online and the wonderful Auto Modellista.

Unfortunately, I sold Forza 4 months ago, so now I'm sad. I really only bought it to play with the AW11, but I might pick up a used copy just to mess around with a little SA22 as well.

Oh god I had so much fun with my little AW11 on the Top Gear test track. To think that thing only has a little over 300HP is crazy with that feather. Great, now I'm sad I sold it. sad.gif

Posted by: Tessou Mar 29 2012, 11:17 AM
The test track isn't a good place to play with the AW11. Take it to Fujimi Kaido downhill (original is better, in my opinion) and let the tail swing out.

Posted by: Wanderer Mar 29 2012, 11:22 AM
Actually, I didn't really like to slide it. Scared me shitless, not knowing car length and how to through that tiny weight around. My AW11 and S30 where strictly for track time attacks and online goofing around. Tuned my dream car and an S13 for drifting.

Posted by: Tessou Mar 29 2012, 11:26 AM
Then you're not driving an AW11. The car is inherently prone to snap oversteer very easily because of the engine setup.

I own one IRL and it's a blast to drive despite this "weakness". You won't have any fun with it if you don't play around with the rear wheels.

Posted by: Wanderer Mar 29 2012, 11:30 AM
That was gonna be the second car I buy after an FC IRL. And I'm not sure man, drifting is fun and all, but not my strong suit. I know it loves to overseer, which is why I set it up for more grip than anything.

Posted by: Tessou Mar 29 2012, 12:17 PM
If you don't like drifting or even having the tail slide out, then don't get an MR2. The tail swings wide a lot, especially in weather that's even fractionally wet.

Get something safer. AW11s are especially dangerous since they have absolutely no safety features or assists outside of seat belts. We're talking about a 2300lb tin can with no power steering, no ABS, no airbags, nothing. Don't forget that parts are scarce and hideously expensive. Something as simple as a headlight motor will set you back $80 each.

I am officially mad at myself for not sticking with Forza 4 as of this latest pack. Galant VR-4 versus Subaru Legacy? Oh god. I mean shit, this is the Legacy I've always wanted to have. The only game worth a damn that had it were the Kaido Battle games. Wangan Midnight for PS3 had a wagon that was playable. That was it.

Now we get the '90 Legacy Sedan? The turbo, AWD version of my first car? Dammit Forza why. Why you make me love you when I can't have you. Dammit.

Edit 1: When it comes down to the physics engine in Forza, there are a-lot of cars that can be compared to being the actual same thing, but thanks to the workers of Turn-10, me and some of my tuning buddies have found things to be... how should I say? Way off the charts.. From understeering, oversteering, traction or not, 0 - 60 and top end speed runs on some stock vehicles... I have to really say, disappointment was not far away, but.. at the same time, there was some enjoyment as well.

Edit 2: On a side note, since I am posting right now, anyone want to do some donwhill runs with an old' fm1 guy? happy.gif; I've been itching to get into some interesting battles or just for fun. grin2.gif

Care to elaborate on which cars are closest to the real deal?

Posted by: TB_InuYasha_X Apr 26 2012, 07:02 AM
Well, I'm at class right now.. or getting ready in a few minutes, but I will gladly give you some insight without my information right besides me.

It's not so much as which cars are near the real deal, it's more like taking a look at real life tracks and understanding what those cars can do stock or performance tuned for a time attack. I find this a actual good way into working with the cars in the game, but I also feel... What is the point of doing that method when certain cars like the Mclaren F1 just don't reach that 241 MPH mark, which is upsetting.. I know the car takes awhile, but meh.. come on now.

Some of the new dlc cars they have been letting loose have been doing pretty good so far, to me that is. The new scion tc is not that far off from the actual vehicle, being that I took one for a test drive because I was not a scion fan and my friend changed my mind. I think the thing Forza really lacks is in depth tuning, If the game had more detail in that form, I don't think the leaderboards would be so, how should I say? Always this one to three cars dominating.

Now, if we ignore the fact of how you can launch the AWD cars and actually launch them on a realistic term, I would say the STI's & Evo's are on point unless someone feels different about it. The Buggati however, is another story.. and I'm not even going to go into that.

I'm going to stop here for now, lol... I can go on for about a year explaining Forza and its little ups and downs, but.. in all honesty, The physics are not that bad... They just need to go into more detail. I want to tune my boost, the AYC in the Evo GSR's, Weight balance, More engine swaps, Better damage etc...

I will say one thing, one guy asked me about a month ago, How come forza will not allow engine blows during races? That's a very simple one, Think about the license they have and how some car companies would feel if there cars engine destroyed itself before the other companies?
Ferrari: Oh, so you want to blow my engine if I go all out for 5 minutes while the Nissan is still going? I see what you did there.

Meh, Add me on live and when I get some free time, I will gladly break the game down for you, but again restating and getting back into what you originally asked.

I would say some of the vehicles are close when it comes to actually achieving certain times on courses stock, but.. When you race those cars next to their rivals, things just don't see to work out... Oddly.

As was made painfully obvious in games like GT5, the studio just seems to spend more time fawning over a choice set of vehicles, and then throw the rest in without much thought.

The AW11 is nice and all, but it behaves nothing at all like it does in real life. The rear tires rarely ever break grip if you let off the throttle during hard cornering, which is hilarious. In real life, the same situation would result in snap oversteer.

Posted by: Spaz Apr 26 2012, 07:43 AM
The Evos are damn near on point. I can toss them around damn well for what they are in game based on how they drive IRL. 'Scary' and 'uncanny' have been used by various friends to describe it.

I would have cared more about GT5 had it included more cars I cared about rather than fifty million of the same exact car (can't you just have one and just...tune it/mod it?) and had the few cars I did care about been more than just a 1:1 copy of GT4. I already own GT4. I'm not going to buy GT5 just to play GT4 again.

Then Forza comes in and shows off how awesome all of its cars are, has cars I actually give a damn about, has an editing engine that doesn't suck dicks and is actually fun to play. Holy shit!

Anyway, does anyone know of a racing/driving game that simulates an automatic transmission properly? At least some games have the decency to call it 'shift assist' instead of automatic, 'cause it sure as hell ain't automatic.

Seems we all have more or less similar tastes in cars. Unlike others my age, my dream car is actually an '87 FC, while others like the Failron and new Lambos.

QUOTE (Yoshida Seiji @ Today, 2:22 AM)
All they really need to do is take a page out of FM and add all the customization options FM has in GT, and work on the engine sounds, BAM, fucking amazing game, oh, and work on the legal issues behind different manufacturer motor swaps. I want to put a 3-rotor in EVERYTHING

Please marry me.

And honestly, for all the niggling little issues I have with this game, most of them are cancelled out by having an SA22C. laugh.gif

If only go-fast bits existed for the actual Fortwo.

Nobody's mentioned the upcoming Porsche DLC coming up on the 22nd?

Return of the mighty GT2! That was easily my favorite car back when I played Forza 2 religiously. smile.gif
