QUOTE
The man suspected of killing nine people at a prayer meeting at a historic black church in this city’s downtown area was caught on Thursday some 200 miles away in North Carolina, local and federal officials said.

After an intensive, 14-hour manhunt for the man who carried out a massacre that officials are calling racially motivated, Dylann Storm Roof, 21, “was arrested in Shelby, N.C., during a traffic stop” shortly after 11 a.m., said Greg Mullen, the Charleston police chief.

The police here say Mr. Roof, who is white, is suspected of being the gunman who walked into the prayer meeting Wednesday night, sat down with black parishioners for nearly an hour, and then opened fire.

The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, the F.B.I., and the United States Attorney’s Office for South Carolina have opened a hate crime investigation into the shooting, which left six women and three men dead, and Chief Mullen has called it a hate crime.

“We will now be looking at all of the facts, all of the motivations that led this individual, if in fact he is the shooter,” to carry out the killings, Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch said at a news conference.

Lunk for further info.

A real tragedy, specially with the talk of that the person (Who may or may not be the person in custody) sat in the church for a good hour before he began firing. Will this be a push into bringing the gun laws to discussion in the courts? probably not, but it gives an idea, specially they say his father bought a 45 caliber for him for his 21st birthday. Sad, a place for peace and tranquility turned into something bad. sad.gif

Trayvon and Brown were both praised as good people by those close to them, and both attacked people designated to keep the peace, losing their lives in the process. Poor choices are colorblind, anyone can make them.

What Spaz said below you. I haven't heard the media portray that divide in many years. For a good while it's been reversed because social justice is the hot issue of the moment.

This guy is a sicko. Hope he gets the electric chair.

Cue catty argument about the death penalty.

Like the time Brown assaulted a homeless man and best him to within an inch of his life, then stole his watch and backpack full of belongings?

That isn't exactly my idea of a good person. rolleyes.gif

But the media did a damn good job of turning it that way. Hell, they barely needed to - Twitter could have done the job itself.

Parent of the year award. Seems like another case of too many warning signs noticed but ignored because "our kid is just misunderstood" kind of mentality. Life is imprisonment with no chance of parole is about the worst thing you can do to him.

Unfortunately, you've got the kneejerk reaction pundits, experts and politicians (the president included) jumping on the gun control wagon again despite there being nothing that would have realistically prevented this.

Well it turns out this guy really is a psycho, even had a ban against him on buying a weapon in South Carolina (which is a VERY 2A-friendly state) and prior arrests... his Dad bought him the gun.

The same thing happened with the Sandy Hook guy.

As an aside, the fact that any state still has the electric chair is almost equally disturbing.

I'm more of a firing squad type of man.

Gives each person the feeling they killed a man, without them truly knowing who gave the shot that took a killers life, most humane way to kill a killer, honestly.

You'd actually have a really solid point if it weren't for the fact that it's inhumane for the executionee.

Seeing as I don't think they'd just pick a person off the street to do it, I don't think it would be.

Given they are told to sign some form of release/document saying they are well away of what they are about to do/see, I, for one, would be more than willing to be a shooter. That and maybe they'd be given some sort of information on the killer, who/how he killed the people, did he feel remorse about it during the trial/his sentence in jail (Not until the end, because everybody will say they feel remorse/sad for doing what they did when they know they will meet the same end)

But that's just me, I feel a hint of sadness for the fuckers getting the lethal injections, that's not how i'd like to go if given the death sentence.

Fuck that noise. Does anyone actually care if fuckers like this feel it or not?

The lethal injection that got messed up a while back and had the guy in immense pain until he passed out from it is the best thing to happen to humanane death penalties since they were introduced.

The most humane, painless death would be carbon monoxide. You just fall asleep.

That said, this is slowly becoming a political thread. You know what happens to threads when political and moral debates become the topic.

Well, the family of the nine who were Killed forgave the young man as he appeared in court via webcam, bit haunting if you see/hear the audio.
