Who are these guys anyway, aniki?"
Ryosuke glanced at his younger brother once, then went back to his charts. " Racers, keisuke. They want to race with the group that calls themselves 'Project D'."
Keisuke scoffed and kicked the ground. " Just some nobodys we havent heard of. Well this should be a nice warm up to keep us on our toes, right Fujiwara?" Takumi didnt answer, and he kept up his usual vacant expression. " I said, RIGHT FUJIWARA?"
Takumi started, and tripped over himself. "uh...? Oh, right. yeah. sure."
Keisuke rolled his eyes and went back to checking his tires.

Ryosuke jumped from his seat when he heard the spinning whine of a Rotary engine in the distance. He glanced at Keisuke at Takumi; They too had craned their heads to one side to see what the sound was coming from.
Over the road's vanishing line a Blue RX-8 came into view, followed by a Red MR-2 and a Scarab Green FD. They glided smoothly over the street asphalt, drift turning in formation to a stop near the guardrail.
Takumi cocked his head. " They have style."
Keisuke crossed his arms. " Lets see if they have skill."
Ryosuke gave a hard stare at the cars. None of them sounded ordinary at all to him. in fact, just like when Keisuke's FD first raced Takumi's AE86, they sounded like monsters in comparison. "Two of the RX series...and one with a medium engine location. These guys know their game." He walked over to the three cars, and the Blue RX-8's driver door opened up to the side.
A dark haired teenager stepped out from the door. He gave the three racers in front of him a calculating look for a moment, then smiled. " Ryosuke Takahashi's Project D, I presume?"
Ryosuke nodded.
"I was beginning to think we had come to the wrong place."
The teenager pushed the door of the RX-8 gently, and waved a signal to the other two cars. From the Red MR-2 stepped out a similarly firey haired male, about the same age as the one that came out of the RX-8. He seemed to burn the very air around him, giving Ryosuke, keisuke and Takumi looks of disdain. The one in the FD was a blonde female, with ridiculous proportions and a happy-go-lucky air about her.
"We," said the Dark haired one, "are the Duel Wolves. We race the local teams around our place to sharpen our tactics and refine some of our own weaknesses. I am the team Leader, Eonai Sovai."
Takumi stepped forward and held out a hand. "I'm..." he began.
The fiery one cut him off. "We know who you are."
The blonde one piped up. "Takumi Fujiwara, age 19, blood type B, single, driver of the reputed Toyota GT Sprinter AE-86 Trueno upgraded with a racing engine." She said in one breath, then stared at Keisuke's yellow FD.
Eonai gave them a look. "My apologies. My teammates are brash. This," He pointed to the fiery red head, now leaning on the hood of his MR-2,"Is Feyd Alexander. Our Tsukuba expert. "
Feyd gave a mock salute.
Eonai motioned towards the blonde girl. " And this is Maya De Strad. Our downhill specialist."
Maya waved cheerily.

Keisuke gave Takumi an impetous look. Takumi returned a bewildered expression.
Ryosuke cleared his throat. " Then I guess we can begin with the race."
Eonai nodded, then slipped back into his RX-8 halfway. "Whoever is first, is fine with us." Then he eased into the seat with one leg out of his car, and watched as his teammates approached Project D's crew.

''---------------------''

Keisuke found that he couldnt quite stop glancing at the metallic green FD of the Duel Wolves. Unlike his own Scarab-like FD, this one seemed far more fluid, organic, cybernetic.
"Something wrong, Keisuke?" Ryosuke handed him a paper cup of coffee.
"Nah, nothing really." Keisuke sipped slowly, letting the night air cool his drink. "But Aniki, just out of curiosity, do these guys have a chance against us? They seem pretty overconfident taking us on just like that."
Ryosuke gazed at the Devil Wolves FD, then to Takumi's 86. "Cant say," he answered, and sipped his coffee.

Ryosuke walked to the starting line, where Maya and Takumi had lined their cars up. Takumi was flexing his fingers on the steering wheel. Maya sat on the hood of her FD, not seeming to care on way or another how this race went. "The first race is the Downhill", Ryosuke began. Everyone turned to him." It will be simple, whoever gets to the bottom first wins."
Maya glanced at Eonai. His eyes flashed. Maya nodded. For a moment, the serne carefree expression on her face switched to one of deadly cunning....
....And then she was half dancing into her driver seat.

Feyd leaned against the railing, next to Eonai's RX-8. "So it starts".
Eonai tapped his fingers on his lap. "Expect nothing like a win, Feyd. Remember that our purpose right now is to gauge their relative skill level. "
Feyd flicked a few stray strands of hair from his eyes. "Im curious as to what Maya can do against Fujiwara though."
Eonai chuckled. "Then shut up and watch." Eonai pressed a button near his control panel. a camera screen winked into display.
The screen showed the inside view of Maya's FD. It was exactly the kind of thing they could use to record this show.

"Ready!" Keisuke shouted. " 3......2.....1....GO!"
Takumi shot forward, switching gears almost instantly. Maya floored her accelerator and kept pace....by just bareley.
Ryosuke crossed his arms, and made calculations in his head. " I thought that FD would have more HP by the look of it."
Keisuke nodded, watching the two cars speed into the distance. "They arent as good as we thought then."

Takumi was leading, and he occasionally threw a glance at his rear view mirror. The FD was right on his tail, but the engine sounded like it was giving its all just to keep up. Takumi shook his head. There was a single hairpin coming up. If that was the maximum speed of this car, this wouldnt be a race. He began to turn the wheel....
Maya smiled as the 86 began to shift it's weight. "And now we play" She said to herself, and turned hard.

Lights in Takumi's side mirrors made him turn. He gaped at what he was seeing. The FD was now directly beside him! The engine still seemed to be struggling as well, which meant the driver had NOT released her accelerator.
Takumi returned his focus on the turn. It seemed that now they were evenly matched in the turns, but Takumi had the advantage on the straights. It was ironic really; before the 86 had an upgrade to its engines, he was usually always left behind in Akina's straights. He countersteered and shifted up; He'd have to be careful and use every advantage he had in the race.
Maya saw the corner of the straight. "No you dont~" She said in a singsong voice. She hit her brakes once, then countersteered and floored the accelerator again. The FD seemed to lurch to its outside, then balance and move in a straight line. Her hand tugged at her shifter.
The gear setting that had read "3" Now switched to "4".

Takumi began to feel the sweat build up under his clothes. What? He thought. How can that car be speeding up even more? Wasnt that its maximum speed in the straight during the start?
Then he remembered his match with Daichi. So that's it, he thought. She hid her acceleration speed from me until she could go ahead. He looked at the FD that was now beside him, cruising at 165kph just like him.
Maya looked back. She smiled, depressed her clutch, and switched to fifth.

"Ryosuke! Ryosuke!" One of the attendants shouted from the camp. "You need to see this!"
Ryosuke turned, realizing he had been scrutinizing the leader of the Duel Wolves. He did seem cocky, but he was completley relaxed as well. There was no joke here, the guys they had agreed to race against were'nt amateurs.
The attendant held up a videoscreen. "This is a capture from one of the hairpin teams. look!"
Ryosuke watched, and his eyes widened as the clip played.
"Aniki, what is...."Keisuke stopped, watchng the clip too.
Ryosuke nodded, and signaled that the attendant could go. "Fujiwara has been passed on a corner." He said bluntly. "Not only are they skilled, but they have cars tuned to unbelievable levels if an FD's 3rd gear is like that. Keisuke, I think I have an answer to your question earlier."
Keisuke clenched his fists, and turned to the RX-8. Eonai was there in the seat, staring back with a cynical smile pasted on his features.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Takumi took deep breaths. As unbelievable as that car was, takumi had worse. The LanEvo match with Kyouichi wasnt exactly a walk in the park itself, and The S2000 had done the same to him.
Takumi gripped the steering wheel harder. Here in Akina, there were tricks no newcomer knew. Even locals rarely came across this trick. He smiled, thanking Bunta for the tricks.
The Winding Downhill was about to show itself.

Maya kept her foot on the accelerator, letting the subcomputers adjust the Gear settings and axle control for the wheel. She stormed down Akina's Downhill at a clean 170, gaining meter by meter from the 86.
She fancied a glance back. The 86 was still behind her, but it was visibly getting smaller. Maya tutted. "And I thought this would be a good race." She depressed her clutch, tapped her brakes once, and inertia drifted ino the Bend before the Hairpins.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Notice something about her Driving, Nai?"
Feyd bent down next to Eonai in the Driver's seat, keeping track of maya's driving.

Eonai glanced up. "Why, do you see something I dont?"

A nod. "Maya usually drives a very tight line. We all review her vids. But look at her now."
Eonai focused on the monitor. Something about Maya's line? They had simulation maps of Mt. Akina, and they ran here once or twice to familiarize themselves with the road. Eonai watched maya's FD carefully, noting how the tires slid....
The tires slid!
Eonai started. "She's letting her line slip? Now?"
Maya's driving was too far from the railing. She was allowing precious meters to slip by her with every hairpin she took.

"And look behind her cam." Feyd pointed at Maya's rear view mirror. The 86 was now getting closer, but Maya didnt seem to notice. She was too confident that this would be a superior win.
Feyd scratched his head irritatedly. "When we go back home, her sister's going to have a fit she got cocky about this."
Eonai steepled his fingers as he watched the 86 slide it's tires into the gutters. Maya was now visibly reacting. "We may need another Downhill run against their FD." He commented passivley.
Feyd stretched. "Giving up on her that easy, Nai?"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eonai wasnt the only one who noticed Maya's lax performance. Ryosuke was watching every recording from the hairpin teams down the road. He shook his head, dissapointed. So these were just kids after all, he thought.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Takumi exhaled, relieved. That last hairpin had caught the FD far enough from the gutter to let him take the inside at a 150kph. He shot past the Scarab Green car, and swapped to a higher gear to compensate for the straight coming on.

Maya blinked. She was passed? on Akina's hairpins? Her face was in a befuddled outrage, looking at the 86's taillights. She pouted, and swapped to her own higher gears.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Aniki! They're coming around the last bend!" Keisuke had his hands on the railing edge, leaning forward as if that would let him see past the horizon line on the road.

Ryosuke turned slightly, just in time to see the headlights roar into view. The 86 was in the lead, with the FD following close behind. It's front tires were now parallel with the side carriage of the 86, and it was still accelerating.
"There's one more turn, Keisuke." he quipped.

Keisuke was about to retort " I know that", but then pursed his lips into a smile. He knew what was coming. It was exactly how Ryosuke lost to Takumi on this Downhill.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Yaaah!"
The FD turned to a sideways drift, and straightened as the Driver countersteered. Maya lunged past the 86, watching it on her side window follow her own drift. She depressed the accelerator, and sighed. this may not have been so bad after all.

But as the 86 pulled AWAY from Maya, she realized her mistake as she looked at the opposite mirror.
Maya braced herself just before the Glass shattered on impact.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Takumi killed his speed, and pulled his handbrake to have the 86 face the Ruined FD. It had smacked the Railing at 124kph, distorted the metal 3 inches in, and flipped into the rock mountainside. The hood was crushed in, and the windows were blown in thousands of pieces on the road. The Green Spoiler Wing was spinning in place where it was thrown off.

Takumi kicked his door open and sprinted towards the wreckage. " Hey! Are you alive?! Answer me!" he swung himself over the barrier and began hauling off the car's top, which was fragmented and in pieces.
Maya was trembling under one of the pieces, arms cut and pouring blood over the face it protected. Her bucket seat was nearly wrenched off it's hold, and the steering wheel had been thrown off entireley into her blocking arms, bruising them where it hit. She was breathing quickly, and started to hiccup from the imbalance.
Takumi unbuckled her seatbelt and lifted her. She didnt react, and kept shaking. She's in shock, Takumi thought.

Takumi carried her to the passenger side of the 86, gently set her down and spoke soothingly to her to let her arms down. Her eyes, he could see, were wide and looked nearly all white. He took off his jacket and wrapped one of her arms in it. " that should help with a little of the bleeding," he told her.
Maya stared straight ahead, shivering, clutching her arms close.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Opal's going to have a FIT all right..." Eonai shook his head. The camera had exploded into infinitesmal shards just before the FD hit the railing.

Feyd watched the 86 round the corner and saw Takumi carry Maya to Project D's first aid station. "He's gallant." He noted idly.
Eonai looked up. Maya was a bloody mess, but she still moved. Now that her Car was a scraphead on Akina's downhill, she'd have to ride with him. Feyd had removed the passenger seat of the MR2.

I'm interested in this story, and would like to see more. You might want to fix the few typos here and there though. And the first EK9 driver's name was Daiki, and not Daichi.

Also. You could've posted this in Initial D General Discussion rather than Artworks and Graphics, since this is clearly an Initial D fanfic. I'm sure you'd find more readers there too. Perhaps you could ask a mod to move it?
