So this is how Fifth Stage ends. With a title card for the big race they advertised but ultimately never showed anything of.

Hahahaha. This is hilarious. Fifth Stage messed up its ending like I'd have never expected, but I guess it was only natural with how they were rushing through everything.

What? Did they only have enough of a budget for 14 episodes or something?

Rush yes they even cut all the good bit from manga and the character design is awful at time... but the main reason it only have 14 ep is because shuichi shigeno could not decide the ending to Takumi vs Shinji race...

I haven't had a problem with it and it seems the same people are constantly moaning about it. Just stop watching it if it bothers you that much. It would save you a lot of grief.

It's been a bit rushed but it's not the end of the world. There are older animations that are "worse" than this but are still enjoyable. Just take it for what it is and no more.

Provide an example of something this horrendous that's enjoyable? I'm honestly curious as to what you consider 'worse' than this and 'enjoyable'. smile.gif

As for YEAH WELL I LIKE IT SO IF YOU DON'T THEN JUST GO AWAY, it's Initial D. We're on Initial D World. If it weren't for Initial D none of us would be here, myself and anyone else dismayed over Fifth Stage included. As fans of the series, we wanted to see more. We wanted the same attention to detail that was in all the previous stages. Yes, we wanted a new Anime... but I'm sure that if we knew it was going to be this bad we would have held our tongues.

I'm glad you can just smile dimly and enjoy it while ignoring the flaws, but that's not going to stop the rest of us from being more critical.

It's important to remember we are talking about opinions. The only objective errors in Fifth Stage are the accuracy issues. Otherwise, everything about the plot pacing and storyline is completely subjective, no matter how large a majority of people believe one specific way. If someone's opinion is that it was still alright, they don't have to say why they feel that way. Of course, it would be nice if they would so we can understand his/her point of view. So I too will be patiently awaiting the answer.

Fair enough, I recognize I'm being somewhat... confrontational? Aggressive?

Still, I would love to know an example of what KobayashiMaru considers 'worse' yet 'enjoyable'. smile.gif

I read most of the Kanagawa Arc manga. So I knew 5th Stage was going to be pretty crappy story wise, and pretty boring race wise. But...

SPOILER

I still think Initial D should've ended after the Purple Shadow race. At least those opponents were out of Project D's league and made the races exciting. No one in 5th Stage were on the same skill level as Hoshino and Joushima.

I give 5th Stage a 6/10.

I don't think Initial D should have ended after the Purple Shadow races, but Project D definitely should have. Think about it, if Initial D ended there, we wouldn't have been introduced to Mika. There's still all kinds of things that can happen in the story. It's just that now, after having spent so much time on this boring stuff in Kanagawa, it's hard to see it happening. I'm confident it could be done, though. It all depends on Shigeno's creativity.

As part of the "it's not the best, but I'll take what I can get" crowd, I do think some people are over sensationalizing some of the previous stages and using that as ammo to say that this stage is not as attentive to detail. (Warning: Manga Spoilers ahead for those that want to read it but haven't had the chance.)

SPOILER

Either way, you guys get my point. If we're going to nitpick, then every Stage made has had it's flaws. Whether it was inaccuracy, lack of attention to detail, or something else I haven't mentioned, it's been there throughout the anime. It's not something that just started happening in Fifth Stage, so that's why I think some people are a bit overly critical. Is Fifth Stage the best stage ever made? No way, but it is better than nothing, and better than waiting because even if we waited, there'd be no guarantee that we would get "better" quality. The way I see it, it is what it is, and I just enjoy Fifth Stage for what it is, for better or worse. As always though, you are entitled to your opinion thumbsup.gif .

I think they're giving it a break simply to sell more manga. It's a great sales tactic. They pretty much caught up to it. I'll almost bet that the animation is already in the bag.

I agree with everyone. Every Stage had its flaws. But Fifth is hugely flawed.

My biggest gripe with Fifth Stage that Stages 1-4 had was REALISM in the portrayal of the car's dynamics. In Fifth Stage, cars slide everywhere in seemingly fast-forward. Stages 1-4 paced the cars' movements, showing mild subtleties like one car showing oversteer and another mild understeer, etc. Initial D concepts were always real "enough" to apply to the real world.

Fourth Stage did an incredible job animating God Arm's "in-between drift and grip." Showing the heft of the R34. Showing the subtle 'push' characteristics of FF cars like the EK9. Showing the 'handling-like-on-rails' of the GC8. The low "mu" during rain races. Building up tire wear throughout the race.

I understand the use of "teleportation" as a metaphor for the Fujiwara and "Keisuke" Zones, but Fifth Stage went super HYPHY with that shiznit.

I LOVE Fifth Stage as a die-hard Initial D fan because it exists. I would've gladly traded other aspects of the show for a more epic, intuitive driving showcase with the realistic car and tire dynamic models of past Stages. I LOVE watching the past shows, knowing I could drive my personal car just like they do. But with the cartoony world of Fifth Stage, that's impossible. I guess that's why my imagination and the manga will have to make do.

5/10. Looking forward to what look's like a future OVA.

No one is allowed to rebuttal my argument smile.gif

Castle is a bad show that I still enjoy because it has Nathan Fillion in it. Fifth Stage was bad but I still enjoyed it because it had an FD in it smile.gif

I'm terribly hard to please.

Posted by: haspieuw May 10 2013, 04:33 PM
First of all I am not looking for a argument here. But shouldnt we just be happy there is a Fifth stage in the first place? I mean Initial D has a lot of fans but compared to other anime, its very niche. Let alone it has to reach certain benchmarks to reach breakeven for the production team. - We do know seiyuu as being paid piss-poor, but Initial D has a lot of high profile seiyuus -

I feel quite sad for the production house who just want to a favour to all Initial D fan there outside. They did with what they had. All in all imo its just a fanservice for you all racing fans.

Posted by: ItBMD May 10 2013, 05:00 PM
Wow, so many opinions. I know you guys are probably like who the heck is this guy. I'm just someone that doesn't post frequently (life gets in the way), but I have seen everything ID has put out. Actually when 5th stage was announced on 8/6 last year, I started re-watching the entire series from first stage. I've never read the manga though, and I think I will now.

But with that said, I am heartbroken that this truly looks like the end of the anime, except for a POSSIBLE OVA. I'm also bummed that

SPOILER

As I said, even though I don't post much, I feel like I've gotten to know each of you a little, and I enjoy reading all the comments a few times a week when I get a chance (this forum is bookmarked on my phone). As someone that knew NOTHING about cars prior to ID (and still knows very little), this is probably the tv show/series I've had the longest relationship with (well actually I guess WWE raw will surpass this eventually).

As Green Day said, "thanks for the memories". It's been fun. Here's hoping a possible OVA does wrap up whatever little there is left. Maybe I'll see you guys at the next event. Let's do something on the east coast in NYC! All the best guys, and I'll still be looking forward to reading what you guys have to say.

Posted by: Seri May 10 2013, 05:03 PM
I'm probably pointlessly hoping that all the budget went into the movie/OVA. But I doubt that's the case.

Just felt like responding to an earlier post.

QUOTE
For example, let's look at First Stage. As far as accuracy is concerned, First Stage completely rearranged the order of races from the manga. If you remember from the manga, Takumi raced (in order) Keisuke, Nakazato, Shingo, Ryosuke, Mako and Sayuki, and finally Kenta. In First Stage, Takumi raced Keisuke, Nakazato, Shingo, Mako and Sayuki, Kenta, and finally Ryosuke. Sure, in the anime it flows a bit better, and builds up to a better climax, but it's inaccurate.

Yeah, it wasn't entirely faithful to the original, but small adaptational inaccuracies aren't automatically a problem in themselves. As you yourself admitted, the rearranged races helped First Stage wrap up properly. And it did it all without leaving out any of the Gunma drivers that were Takumi's first opponents.

As for Fifth Stage, I can't really say exactly how it was or wasn't an accurate adaptation (I'll leave that to someone else), but if there really were inaccuracies, they aren't the main thing that hurt it as both an adaptation and a stand alone work. The real problem had a lot more to do with pacing.
First Stage was well paced and built up its plot nicely, Second Stage had decent pacing as well, Third Stage was also good in this regard, and even Fourth Stage managed an okay pace.
But with Fifth Stage, everything was simply rushed after the first one or two episodes. Instead of putting time aside for what few bits of actual story currently remain in the manga, the anime tried to get to the races as quickly as it could. And instead of letting the races play out at the same reasonable (for a TV anime) paces that First, Second and Fourth Stage did, it then also tried to get through these races as quickly as possible, even omitting stuff in at least one instance to make a race end even quicker (from what I've seen people post about how the manga tackled these same races). Things just ended too quickly very often, with little focus on the non-racing moments, generally little buildup for the races, and with racing footage and roadside battle commentary crammed together too tightly in little space.
And that's basically the biggest problem people are having with Fifth Stage as an adaptation. Not how faithful it is or isn't to the manga, or the lack of attention to detail some are referring to (which are actually mistakes in car sounds - already pointed out by N1 - rather than stuff in the CG, though I could certainly go on about the CG animation a little) but how the pacing played a good part in keeping it from being better.

You're right about those other problems though - First Stage's car animations (though I could still go on about the CG in Initial D overall - including Fifth Stage's - if not getting too long-winded wasn't a concern), the weird looking character designs for some parts of Second Stage, and the scenes that got left out throughout the anime so far - But they still don't make the other stages flawed on the same level as Fifth Stage turned out to be. The other stages managed to more or less compensate for their flaws. Fifth Stage didn't.

Wow, you remember all those /spoiler details from memory? You got some Ryosuke in you biggrin.gif good stuff

The Sakai vs Keisuke race that was glossed over in 4th stage was indeed a loss. That race was good.

"Is Fifth Stage the best stage ever made? No way, but it is better than nothing, and better than waiting because even if we waited, there'd be no guarantee that we would get "better" quality."

I agree 100% with this. They already set a poverty budget for Fifth Stage. I have a feeling that even if the manga was 10 chapters ahead of where it is now, they would still cram those 10 chapters in 1 episode then call it quits XD

yes yes; I think this means OVA or movie that shows that race and the ending exclusively.

Posted by: pimenta59 May 10 2013, 09:21 PM
Well, while waiting for the last episodes, I was re-watching all of initial D stages, even the extras. Fifth stage quality is indeed lower than previous stages, but, for me, the worst is that I had to wait a month for a pair of episodes, and these episodes, when they started to build up the tension, getting me fired up, they ended. And then…a month of cooldown. That, for me, sucks.

I should have waited for ALL of fifth stage to come out, so I could watch ALL of em at once, and not bit by bit. My mistake.
Since Initial D is ending, I have a bit of regret that fifth stage wasn't as good as fourth stage, not even close. The only race I am really eager to see, is Takumi vs Shinji AE86 battle, but that won't happen, for now.

But, stuff gotta end someday. (Except Oil: Oil doesn't have to end, and even if it does, there is still alcohol (etanol) and biodiesel to burn).

Initial D whas really one of the best Anime but with stage 5 it did fall in to an deep hole.

Story whas low, animations whas most low, and the ending whas just plain crap

Posted by: Tessou May 11 2013, 05:04 AM
We can hope, sure, but that doesn't mean it will be good.

If the company handling it put this amount of care into Fifth Stage, what makes you think they'll put any more effort into a sequel? More does not always mean better. Initial D is running into a classic problem faced by long-running series', in that over time, the production company starts to lose interest. Many series' have fallen victim to it and fallen into obscurity. Big O, Rurouni Kenshin, Dragonball GT, YuYu Hakusho, and especially School Rumble's absolutely horrendous Third Semester OVA.

Right now I feel like we should just let it die. Yeah, a movie or OVA is probably in the works at the moment, but I wouldn't hedge bets that it will be up to the same standards of anything before it.

were improved compared to the earlier episodes this season.

Maybe what happened was: They offered a low budget for a full season of anime. The established Japanese studios that worked on Stage 1,2,3,4 refused to work for so little money. So a studio with less experienced workers got the contract for Stage 5th. As the episodes went along, they improved a bit. So maybe in a next anime season, we can expect better episodes from the start?

Posted by: Tessou May 11 2013, 07:33 AM
It does stink heavily of "we need to roll this season out ASAP since the fans are complaining". There is little evidence that anybody put any sort of love or care into Fifth Stage. Everything about it is just hideous.

I agree with just about everything you've said.

Stage 1 is the main stage I've watched repetitively due its the real world application. That's what made watching it so addictive- well for me at least.

Just felt like responding to an earlier post.

The other stages managed to more or less compensate for their flaws. Fifth Stage didn't.

The thing is that Fifth Stage's pace really couldn't have gone any other way. There weren't many side stories or fillers in the manga anyway, they mostly focused on the races in the manga as well. Most of the anime races were accurate in the sense that they got the main point of the race (my only gripe would be for the Takumi vs Kai race, that one really should have been a braking battle that they could have expanded more on). Could they have prolonged the races? I guess. However, that's still just a workaround of the main problem, that they simply had very little material to work with. You could wait another five, ten, fifteen years, fact of the matter is that since Fifth Stage had no substance to begin with, the quality wouldn't be any better had we waited.

Like I said before, I'm not saying that Fifth Stage is perfect and the best out of all of them. It's far from that. I'm just stating that the pace in the manga was this quick as well. The only difference is that because the manga is released slower, it feels like it takes a longer time and that you can make these races longer, but in reality when you read the manga and then take a look at the anime, you really can't do or add anything else with it. This is a matter of substance, and the other Stages had more of it in the manga, and the anime reflects it. This one didn't in either the anime or the manga, and it shows.

I felt like 4th stage had a bigger budget, plus the directors for 4th stage Tsuneo Tominaga did a whole lot better job than Mitsuo Hashimoto (Fifth stage director)

Tsuneo did a bunch of A-list anime like Cardcaptor, Cyber Formula (Futuristic F1 anime), Naruto, Shuffle, and Wangan Midnight just to name a few

Mitsuo did A-list (perhaps S-list) anime too but has less experience under his belt when it comes to racing anime genre. Some of his work: Beyblade, all Dragonball series, and Galaxy Angel

Maybe Mitsuo's style just doesn't fit Initial D or the budget just doesn't suit him enough to turn Initial D into long series like DBZ lol

I tried to work late and I just couldn't. So the subs might be a little later than usual this time around. Knowing there are no more episodes after this though, I probably shouldn't rush this one. Hope I have your understanding. With that said, I am going to get some rest.

Much like the rest of you, I have been disappointed in how much of a rush job Fifth Stage has been. The way I saw it, it was going to attempt a similar pace to Second Stage, but there was far more content to cram in and I was hoping for a similar end much like the race between Takumi and Wataru, whereby Takumi was learning something new once again. But that's not been the case.

I'm going to jump on the Movie/OVA bandwagon, purely because, as much as I think they could just put a delay on bringing out more episodes to add to Fifth Stage, it could be a while before the race between Takumi and Shinji comes to an end in the manga. Also, the final message at the end of episode 14 would seem really out of place in a complete season.

I just hope there are some significant developments in the manga over the coming year to have enough content to make for a worthwhile film production. At a guess, I would say it will be the end of 2014 at the earliest before we see a conclusion.

In any case, Takumi and Shinji's race has been animated more than we have seen, if any of the preview pictures are anything to go by.

Posted by: JDMJunkieAE86 May 12 2013, 07:39 AM
You need to remember that the manga for the final race isn't actually finished yet. That's probably why they didn't show the final AE86 battle yet.

Posted by: eatsuki May 12 2013, 08:19 AM
Yeah, Perry deserves some rest to recover from his illness. He's done so much, we don't want him to end up like the first 86 engine. Waiting a bit more for the episodes isn't a big deal. Some of the manga I'm following, I have to wait a month between chapters.

Worst thing is that the group doing that manga also scanlates 10-15 other manga. So seeing them release all those other chapters from other mangas except the ONE manga I follow, I'm kinda jealous biggrin.gif

That's why I love groups like here, that are 100% dedicated to 1 manga/anime. Real life delays are always understandable. But when they do work, it's 100% focused on the story they love, they are the most passionate fans.

Posted by: hks555 May 12 2013, 09:09 AM
Overall Fifth Stage was disappointing. After watching Fourth Stage I had high hopes for Fifth Stage.

I really hope they will show Bunta compete in a full race. I always hoped for a Bunta vs God Arm saga. Or even Bunta vs both God Foot and God Arm. That would be a really pumped race.

These last two episodes weren't so bad, I've pretty enjoyed watching this race, it didn't seem to be rushed and the animation and CG were a bit better than some of the previous episodes.

As for the Takumi VS Shinji race, somehow I knew that it was impossible to show considering that they had to show the Hojo VS KT race first. I can wait for this final stage to come, hoping that it will be a bit better than this Fifth Stage with the character design and "detail" as someone mentioned earlier.

It just seems so surreal that the series is just over now. After waiting for so long I feel like it was a big let down to have it end like this. It was fun watching some of the scenes but it just felt so rushed for me. Hopefully we do get something like a Final Stage OVA or something like that then.

We have reason to be. This forum is chock full of wannabe kids who wanna look big on the internet. For instance, people who steal pictures of our former Admin's car and claim it's their own. derp.gif So you'll have to excuse us for being skeptical when presented with such... lackluster evidence, shall we say?

Tessou's right, but I would go so far as to say that Initial D ruined them just as much as it ruined the Corolla. I imagine those roads were a little less... 'safety-oriented' before Initial D hit and all the fanboys flocked there. Now they're a shell of their former selves. Sure they look the same and you can still drive them (we have a few members here who have, and took video) but pulling stupid street racer shit on them is out of the question unless you enjoy dying and/or killing others.

So, bottom line? If you wanna be a tourist and check them out, that's awesome. If you think you're gonna be some hot-shit racer and drift them? Save yourself a lot of time and money and just stay where you're at.

Posted by: Tessou May 13 2013, 01:03 PM
I think Initial D's distinct lack of police anywhere has created the sense that these roads are not watched. Speed cameras, plentiful speed bumps on the corners, and other defeating measures have been implemented in the decades since the drift culture caught on in Japan and the authorities got wise to it.

Just look at recent Irohazaka videos, for example. It's nothing like Initial D presents it. Lots of speed bumps, and the guardrails certainly do not end prematurely to facilitate idiots throwing cars around them. There's also the fact that the road is insanely narrow and steep, so every corner is terrifying. You'd be an incredible moron to even try putting a car sideways anywhere on it.

I get what you're saying about what Initial D did to mountain roads, but I'm not quite following you on how it ruined the Corolla. What do you mean by that?

Posted by: Tessou May 13 2013, 02:01 PM
Foisted upon the masses the idea that the AE86 Corolla was the fastest, greatest car on the planet. In real life, it's not so great. The engine was fantastic... in the late 80's. Everything about it is severely outdated now, and all of the cars it went up against in the series would have actually stomped it into the ground.

Shouldn't there technically be two more battles after the Inui battle... An underlying premise of the series since the beginning was that Keisuke would challenge Takumi one more time after Project D was finished. I've similiarly gotten the feeling that Takumi wants to take on Bunta one more time...

I'm referring to the tofu tax.

I've heard it called the Takumi tax before too. The first time I've seen tofu used though.

As for my comments about the drifter, yes, I was skeptical too. Although I was serious about being a professional drifter not being all that big a deal. Seriously, have you seen Hogan's son drifting? I'm not talking about the crash on the roads, I mean his actual attempts to be a pro drifter. Funny stuff.

You're right about real life being and the show being different. Japan is a generally pretty reserved country, and while I don't doubt that people drive that way on the streets, it's certainly not as common as portrayed in ID. As above, when you try to do stupid shit on public roads, that's what happens. Hogan's son spent some time in jail, and his friend will spend his entire life with severe brain damage.

I've never been to Japan myself, but having traveled to other places I've seen on TV, it's rarely the same. In person things are never as exciting. Although if I do get a chance to go to Japan, driving along some of the famous roads from ID and other anime and TV shows I've seen would be something I'd like to do.

Posting stolen pics is stupid, yes. Posting pics stolen from an admin other people recognize, well, some people take stupidity to a whole other level.

As disappointing as it may be, after so many years of waiting after Stage 4, I cant really complain. Maybe for the epic finale of the 86 vs 86 race, it will be like Stage 3 where it will be a movie.

AND maybe, JUST MAYBE, I think they are going to say that the younger kid might be Takumi's younger brother? Think about it, Takumi lives with Bunta, and the kid lives with only his mother. I think that would be a fantastic ending. Just saying.

I highly doubt either we happen since neither wouldn't productively advance the plot in any way.

At least in the manga. Maybe the anime but I still doubt it.

In reality the police very rarely show up at the 'touge' to enforce laws, but most of the really big places (Hakone, and all the roads made famous by Initial D like Haruna and Akagi) have had anti-drifting measures installed to prevent racing (groves in the road, waved asphalt to keep people slow, barriers in between the lanes). But I've been told that when they do show up they just chase the people out.

I can't wait for the HQ to come out... the LQ video kind of ruined 11 and 12 for me because it just made the animation look so bad.

Thanks for the subs! Can't wait for episode 14!

Anyways, I agree with most of the people here saying that 5th stage is subpar compared to the other stages. I felt like they could have stretched this stage to include probably more episodes.

The biggest disappointment for me was the ending of the Ryosuke-Hojo grudge match. That was sooo anti-climactic (or maybe that cool down period in between episodes ruined the atmosphere for me).

I don't know what to expect in episode 14, but if it shows the ending of the uphill battle + the entire downhill battle, that would be disappointing for me. I almost certainly feel there will be an OVA of some sort, probably another battle stage, to show the extended versions of the battles.

Posted by: geokilla May 14 2013, 07:59 AM
Is it just me or are the character designs a lot better? It's like they saved most of their budget for these two episodes.

They could've down the same for fourth stage. They cut so much out. I don't understand the reasoning behind it. Someone here mentioned it before they had a reason on speeding everything up.

They touched on the Corolla / Civic rivalry at some point in First Stage. I don't really care much for Hondas, so I glazed over it.

I'd easily believe that the Civic would be faster in any generation. The standard 4AG was good but outclassed within a few years. The 4AGZE was a good step in the right direction, and I wish they kept a supercharger option with later engines, although I've been told that the blacktop is a real bitch to work with when attempting to get more power out of it.

The B18 in the EG6 (JDM SiR) still made more power than the supercharged 4AG.

The "rivalry" mentioned in First Stage is pretty lopsided. If anything it's more a brand rivalry (yes, the Levin/Trueno and Civic were market rivals) than a racing rivalry.

FWIW, the first 4AGE was rated at 130 HP, but didn't make anywhere near that, because at the time Toyota measured power on a bench dyno with test headers and no accessories (gross power). Honda measured net power. That's why the second generation 4AGE was still rated at only 130 HP despite making quite a bit more power. And it's why the Civic with similar numbers was much faster (besides being FF).

At least that's how I remember hearing the story.

I have fewer posts than him, and I had no problem with direct download. His post count is not the issue.

They left out a few things. They should have made it a little longer. Spent more time on the races, and added in the story elements they left out. 14 is a strange number of episodes for a series.

Fifth stage is now caught up to the manga, which is why it ends in the middle of the story like that, without any real conclusion. ID has been going on a long time, and I'm sure that eventually Tak will race again, just not during this stage.

I tried to work late and I just couldn't. So the subs might be a little later than usual this time around. I don't have an ETA for 13, but the current progress is at 50% for Ep.13 translation wise, timing is all done, karaoke is all done, typesetting all done by Keisuke42. Just needed to complete the other half translation and improve its accuracy.

Knowing there are no more episodes after this though, I probably shouldn't rush this one. Hope I have your understanding. With that said, I am going to get some rest. "

Wow Perry... you must have been sick if you mentioned that I helped with the fansubs. lol Hope your feeling better.

Drifting is a lot slower and the tires would be done before they got to the finish line.

I prefer watching Project D race the way they have. It's awesome keeping an eye on their race line on a unknown course and their braking points.

Posted by: Vortrex May 16 2013, 07:12 AM
In Initial D drifting is sometimes faster than grip.
And the tyres will wear out faster of course, but in harpins you can be faster sometimes. Even at higher speeds.

Like in the race of God Foot, they started drifting, and everyone was surprised and Joshima said Kozo shouldn't go too fast. So that means drifting can be faster.

Kozo started drifting in that battle because he was fighting understeer, and wanted to block the road, not to go faster.

But hell, it's Initial D. It's a manga/anime, not real life, so they can bend reality however they see fit awesome.gif

Bzzzzt wrong on both counts. He started drifting because his tires were going to shit already so he had to change the way he was driving. It wasn't faster, it was just better for his situation.

Also Joshima said he 'shouldn't rush', referring to his mental state not the speed of his driving.

Posted by: Tessou May 16 2013, 04:05 PM
Mhm.

Joshima explained that Hoshino yells out loud during races to keep himself from pushing too hard and screwing himself out of a win. He stays at the limit, instead of pushing himself over it, which could end up with bald tires and faded brakes, if he doesn't end up going over a guardrail already.

Posted by: THE_HONDA_CG2 May 16 2013, 04:13 PM
I thought another reason Hoshino yells is because that is his way to relieve stress. I know that sometimes when I'm driving by myself, I just think out loud so I can get stuff off my chest. Different concept huh? I dunno. I'm just thinking aloud. Not while driving of course! derp.gif

any updates on ep 14?

DO NOT ask for the release date of the subs for Ep. 13 & 14.
DO NOT ask for the availability status of HQ episode links. Be patient.
You will be warned and your posting privilege removed for one (1) week.

Just saying, please make sure to read the OP.

Can mods do a better job of moderating what is said about the final episode?

I mean I already read from a comment that

Episode 14 will be ready in 40 minutes. =) I want to take the chance to thank everyone who's involved in helping the process for the last episode. Thank you Meteor, APX, kyonpalm for helping me some of the grammatical phrasing. And thank you to REDSUNS42 Fansubs for helping with the typesetting, the subs look much better with the effects! And thanks to Nomake Wan as usual for showing me how to re-encode files.

First of all, Perry, feel better.

Next, THANK YOU to Perry and everyone else that contributed to this process. Perhaps we don’t say it enough, but I know I certainly appreciate everything you guys have done. Now, time to watch the end of this chapter for the anime.

What's the over/under on 2020 for the ending OVA (if there is one)?

Thank you Perry, Nomake, RedSuns42 and all the people that made this job possible. For me at least, enjoying Initial D wouldn't be possible without you guys. Hope Initial D doesn't end here, but, if it does, it'll stay alive on our hearts.

I Salutte and bid farewell to all Initial D fans.

Thank you. Your work on these episodes does not go unnoticed and I can say it has reached a much wider audience than just this forum. I am an FR-S owner and our community has crossover fans of Initial D and I have directed many to this site to enjoy what you have accomplished. Once again, thank you all for your hard work.

Incredible, even though many people say Fifth Stage is and has been very lackluster, it still delivered the ultimate feeling that no other anime/tv show/movie can bring.

That feeling of joy, the goosebumps. I dont think that i can even explain what brings these but for me, Initial D re-ignited my love for cars, driving, the scene in general.

Sounds so derp.gif to be writing these things but jeez..

I'm gonna guess this is just a fancy way of saying "So 2020 for finale guys?" in which case...nah.

Kick back, have yourself some drinks, enjoy time with your friends, go drive a real car... and then either you'll find out all of a sudden there's a new something-or-other or there'll be an announcement that there isn't.

There is no news and probably won't be for a long time, considering the wait time after Fourth Stage. We were going on seven years last time. How long will they make us sit around before throwing another terrible season/movie/ova at us?

I wonder if they'll even bother with a Battle Stage 3. It'd probably be a chore just to make it last 20 minutes. laugh.gif

Just finished watching the entire 5th stage. I mean, I thought it was okay overall but for some reason I found the races to be quite boring. I felt that this series lacked attention to detail about the characters and it was more focused on the racing more than anything else. And some of the dialogue of the characters seems like they're repeating the stuff they've already said in the previous episodes. So I thought that was bland in that regard, and I wanted to get to know the characters more. For example, we caught a glimpse of Ryosuke's past and the love triangle that he was involved in - that race between his old rival Rin was quite unique and emotional. Also I wish we got to know more of Takumi's relationship with Mika and how that could have developed further. Overall, I give the series 6/10.

Because you have to right-click and save as. Or if you have it open in a tab already for some reason, File->Save as (or Save Page As, whatever).

Because the plugin your browser is calling upon to play the MP4 file cannot handle the AAC audio for whatever reason.

I think the raw video that's on Dailymotion might actually be higher quality than 320, because it looked miles better than the 11 and 12 video quality did.

The overall production values probably aren't as high as Fourth Stage, they simply added a few details that weren't there before and used a different style. I think Fourth Stage better captured the feel of the manga.

It's the same 360p raw. I just checked. The only thing better than the 360p raw is the DVD raw, which will come out in July. happy.gif

EDIT: Wait, I think I found what you are talking about. Is it this one? http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xzqz76_%E...=2#.UZmNjaL-PTo

I think one of the things that also bugged me about Fifth Stage was how, unlike the other stages, they didn't really put a whole minute or two with eurobeat music concentrating on the race itself. It seems that in this stage even when the eurobeat is playing, there are people constantly talking and barely any intense race footage to go along with it.

Posted by: dDrRaGeX May 19 2013, 10:43 PM
I'm so confused...why are people saying that there will be more episodes? Are they any sources that proves this?

Because many anime video streaming sites apparently put 20 episodes for Fifth Stage, with placeholder page for episodes not yet aired. People take that as the total number of episodes when in fact no one knows any better.

As far as we know, 14 is the end of Fifth Stage, but not the end of Initial D of course. One thing we are sure though, there are no new episodes next month because Perfect Choice already published June's broadcast schedule and there is NO 15 & 16. And July will be the same most likely.

YES! YES YES YES! You just said what I wanted to say (even though I forgot to say about it). I hate how they just "touch and go" with the Eurobeat. When "Limousine" started playing, I was so hyped up, until it just lasted for half a minute or so facepalm.gif

That last battle was a disgrace, and it was supposed to be the finally!?
I had no emotional involvement or any sense of urgency.

In the battle with God Foot, I just remember literally being off my seat at the scene where they are side by side going into the 180 degree turn with the chilling intro to Back on the Rocks playing, I literally had goosebumps! And then the downhill drifting to Riders of The Sky, amazing!

Or in the first stage, Ryosuke and Takumi lining up side by side at the Penultimate corner for a braking battle with Beat of The Rising sun kicking, I was genuinely almost there!

Or even how sad it was when the engine blew in the 86 in the 2nd stage, theres been nothing to stand out in 5th stage at all apart from its mediocrity.

I don't usually visit the forums so it would be awesome if idfourms could send out another email blast like they did when the 5th stage was announced whenever we get word of the conclusion to the Initial D anime. I'm sure members like myself would appreciate it.

Thanks again everyone.

If they release a OVA movie in a relative short timeframe (within 3 months) then I most likely won't do another mass email. However, if it's going to be a year or more from now, then I'll definitely remind everyone again when there are more anime coming out. So keep on checking the forums for at least three months from this point!

Or you can simply subscribe to our general RSS feeds, http://idforums.net/rss.php All the Facebook, Main Site/Forum related updates will updated through that feed. smile.gif

oh well I know fifth stage fails to be too fast and lack of story detail

but I was so hyped that the details on the cars and especially sound of the cars.

I can say for sure at least the 2 RX7s FD and FC sounds exactly the same as real cars, so they did every single cars' recording. Before they didn't do it in such detail ( it sounds exactly like my FC, even turning the ignition on)

But for the wheels of the R32... they shouldn have been only the R33 wheels

Pay attention to the Z (Ikeda's Red Z33) and the 86 sounds…That should change your mind.

Thanks for the intel guys, so episodes 13 and 14 DVDs is coming out today, great. Can't wait to get all episodes in a reasonable quality to re-watch Initial D.

Pretty sure that was a flashback scene that dated at least a couple years back from the current timeline. Bunta didn't purchase the Impreza until about half years ago. So no, that's not Bunta. happy.gif

Adding the 5.1 to the episodes I didn't have them on is another of the items for the batch. 1-4 were the only ones I didn't include 5.1 on.

Batch torrent of 1-14. version 2 of 1-6 and 12. Added 5.1 audio track to 1-4.

Does anyone know or have the song (sounds like a guitar solo) from Episode 14 when Maki starts crying? Amazing community here btw!

That BGM wasn't released on any of the OSTs, so you're not gonna have much luck finding it.
